Yello again, everybody! I know we have a lot of old school fans on here, so thought Id help out Scott Bowden and promote his new podcast, Kentucky Fried Rasslin. Scott is a former Memphis manager, best known for managing such stars as Eddie Gilbert, Doug Gilbert and Tommy Rich and getting into verbal altercations with Dave Brown, Randy Hales, Miss Texas and Downtown Bruno. I help him out with his podcast, working behind the scenes, to help provide fun art of some of your favorite Memphis wrestlers and Memphis moments. With that being said... Episode 15 of the KFR podcast is so packed, we moved it to the main event time slot: 8 p.m. Monday night. The Great Brian Last and I will be welcoming referee Jerry Calhoun, who will discuss another big Monday night in Memphis Wrestling history: The Last Sellout at the Mid-South Coliseum on March 3, 1986. Jerry will also discuss how he broke into the biz, road hijinks, and his ability to be rendered momentarily unconscious by an errant shot to the noggin. Plus, we'll hear from a mystery guest (not Mil Mascaras) about the big TV angle on March 1, 1986, leading to the return of Jerry Lawlera moment that rallied the hometown faithful and sent heels Buddy Landel and Bill Dundee running for cover. All this and more on TONIGHT'S KFR podcast! http://kfrpod.com Help support the show by visiting the KFR Store at: http://kentuckyfriedrasslin.bigcartel.com

Just a FYI: just because they (Louisville and Memphis) were in the same “territory” means nothing; they aren’t remotely the same when it comes to legality or anything (they’re like six hours apart, lol). While many people here in Louisville probably knew the name Jerry Lawler, he’s really not what you’d call any kind of “local celebrity” whatsoever.

Eh, I really don't buy this. Myself, and many friends, started watching in the early 80s and watched all thru the 90s and we never talked about that. We preferred the NWA/Memphis/Mid South style but still watched the WWF. I probably went to 75/80 percent of shows at the Louisville gardens from 82 to 96 and never heard stuff like that WHEN I started hearing it is when the WWF basically became a monopoly in 2001. That's when my friends kinda gave up

Anyone who is put off by the "wackiness" should at least skip ahead to the interviews, they are always great The wackiness can be the best part where some great stories come up that have nothing to do with the original line of questioning. I call this section the "lucky dip". Exactly. The top 10 has become an important history lesson as well. ...and there should be some fun art coming up today from the stories during the top 10 -

Since Foley has been brought up... We all remember the ol' go away heat being called "XPac Heat"...they should truly change that saying to "Foley Heat".

Yeah, after this latest podcast (The Radicalz), I'm checking out of this podcast. I thought it could be interesting when it first started, but eh....you would think he has an earpiece and Vince is feeding him lines. -

This has quickly become a potentially interesting podcast to an, eh, it's going to be some back ground noise while I do some art. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but I found it ironic that he ripped Tully on the podcast, saying why should anyone believe him since he was a Coke head, yet at the beginning, Bruce admitted to his own alcohol and drug usage (note: he said he'd tried Coke, but didn't like it, so never really used it). The funniest thing about that latest podcast? For years, I thought it was a government witch hunt, but I never read anything about it (other than heard people talking about the testimonies and such), but after hearing him talk about it, it seemed like the WWF was shady as hell about it. I thought he came off horrible -
Oh it happened. It was from Lexington, KY. We got tickets late, so our seats were behind the titanron. We could see "Hawk" doll fall as plain as day. It looked like one of those CPR dolls. Right then I knew the LODs careers were buried

The Jim Cornette Experience
UKWildcat replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I hope that once Brian settles in he will also be able to be the bridge that allows the show to evolve by being able to introduce contemporary wrestling topics. I don't know how contemporary Brian will get, lol. I don't think he's a big fan of today's product. I do agree with Migs: that Brian will know where to dig in Cornettes mind for good stories -
Mark has several good books. His 1977 Memphis book, which looks at when Jarrett breaks off from Gulas is great A couple other great historians are Tim Dills and Scott Bowden

6:05 Superpodcast Episode #13 - Good Psychology, Brother
UKWildcat replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Having Scott on the last two weeks were great. He's someone who experienced things first hand and provided an unique perspective. Hell, even after hearing stories about the Gulas family for years, I developed a soft spot for them after hearing Scott -

I've watched Memphis since 81 with the second Tupelo Concession Stand Brawl; went to probably 75% of the cards at the Louisville Gardens from 8/3/82 until the end of 96. I can help you with any perspective
