This is the main event of Stardom first show of the year with the new tag champs, Hojo and Bito, taking on Io and her Queen's Quest partner HZK. The QQ duo control the early going with some effective bullying tactics, managing to cut off the ring on both Hojo and Bito at separate times. HZK looked solid working as a heel and was fine holding her own during the finish although she should try to develop her own shtick rather than aping Yoshiko. Io and Hojo carry the the finish of the match. The two of them continue to have fantastic chemistry together. A high quality main event to start off the year for Stardom. ***3/4 -
Match Link This is one of Takahashi's first matches outside of Stardom/SEAdLINNNG in quite a while, so it is interesting to see her take on some new opponents. Unfortunately, the TV version of this match has about a third of it clipped, but what is shown is great. Ohata is not the flashiest worker that you will ever see, but she makes everything she hits look like it made an impact. Takahashi does have a couple of iffy moments with selling and transitions although she looks fantastic on offense. Hopefully WAVE's streaming service shows this in full because the clipping is the only thing that's keeping me from calling it a MOTYC. ****

This was wrestled under "HARD HIT Graplling Rules". I enjoyed the opening, I think it established well that Aoki coud be a threat to Fujiwara despite him not matching him in matwork skill due to his advantage in speed and just generally not being 66 years old. Then Fujiwara starts trolling Aoki and the match completely disintegrates (in the sense of them following the rules) and they just start headbutting the shit out of each other. Then they decide that wasn't ridiculous enough and start shoot headbutting the ringpost and just doing whatever the hell comes to their minds. Once they've filled enough time with bizarre stuff to ensure Fujiwara wouldn't get blown up they go back to doing neat matwork and the match with a really well set up submission. Not something that I'd recommend to someone not familiar with either for them but it's great fanservice if you're a fan already.

I’m used to seeing Maeda in more of an elder statesman role based on 90s watching, and Maeda-Takada tends to go long in their 1990 series. Many of the matches are great, no doubt, but seeing them do a 10-minute version of their match with Maeda more grounded in his actual heyday makes for a really nice contrast. It’s easy to see why this style got over as something new and different at the time. It’s really just a modernized version of 70s style matwork, but it feels fresh because of the dynamic personalities and the faster pace of the matwork. Not in the top handful of matches these two have had against each other, but maybe their most accessible match, and a nice addition to their series. ***1/2
