    Do you hate Inoki?

I agree 100% with your assessment of Billy's game plan. I tried to say Billy's selling against Baba in the 1976 3 fall match was more stooge-like against Baba's questionable offense. Billy's selling against Inoki was top notch, IMO Dan
  2. 8/5/82 for me. Kid finally get a his top rope headbutt, after failing in the prior 4 matches. 2 3/4 count. Crowd goes berserk, and the cameraman zooms in on Kid's face. Kid is despondent that his finisher didn't get the job done. 8/30/82 is a short "greatest hits" match for an unfamiliar crowd; jamming in all the highspots without any real story. 8/5/82 Dan

    Do you hate Inoki?

This. Most of us knew the result before we even watched the match. I think it would have been much more dramatic if we didn't know the result going in. The 2nd fall coming so late in the match set the stage for a crazy sprint to the finish that the live crowd certainly enjoyed. Would I have preferred them having 5 minutes left for the last fall? Absolutely. But the match looked good to me. Much less stooging from Billy, compared to his Baba 3 fall match It looked more like a legit contest, especially for 1975 standards. Dan Ginnetty

    Tatsumi Fujinami

Fujinami was not booked to lose that match. When Maeda hit him with the high kick in the corner, it caught Fujinami just right and he started bleeding buckets. Maeda was a bit nervous, knowing the finish, so they improvised the double KO finish. The crowd bought it, thankfully, since the NJ vs. UWF feud was red hot at this time. Dan Ginnetty

The "other" Inoki and Backlund matches...

6/1/78 aired on TV once. Supposedly TV Asahi lost the tape or the tape got ruined. A wrestling fan recorded it onto VHS tape, so it still exists. Dan
  16. Only 2 matches are out there right now; Him against Hara and then Teranishi. Based on the TV listings, there was a second Hara match that might have aired, but I never come across it. Dan

    Stan Hansen in NJPW 1990?

Wasn't that some agreement from the 4/13/90 multi fed Dome show. NJ sent Liger and Nogami in a singles match, and and IWGP Tag Team Title Match Masa Saito & Shinya Hashimoto © defeat Masahiro Chono & Riki Choshu (13:00) Perhaps Baba agreed to loan out Hansen to NJ in return. I seem to recall Steve Williams and the Road Warriors also touring with NJ at that time. Dan

    Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4

I agree. If those 2 guys thought the New Breed were R+R express clones, they clearly never saw the New Breed wrestle or give interviews. Dan
  19. Believe it or not, Riki and I discussed it on Toukon Retsuden months before it happened. I recall many wrestling fans questioning AJs future after Baba passed. The wrestlers were loyal to Baba, but not his wife, who was now running things. Misawa and Motoko (Babas wife), did not see eye to eye on how to run AJ. Eventually, Misawa got the backing and support of NTV. Now he could form NOAH, and would have NTV airing shows. The split decimated AJ, leaving them with only Kawada and Masa Fuchi. They had NO tv coverage of any kind from June 2000 til late 2000, when GAORA picked them up. IMO, AJ never recovered, and now is a mere shadow of what it once was.

Toukon Retsuden - The Wrestling Scene

Glad you enjoyed the show! Sadly, Youtube took all our old shows (over 100 episodes) down. Can't understand why ;-) The website Toukon theatre is still up, but those torrents take forever to download! The show relaunch did occur in 2013, and we have done almost 40 episodes since then. Only an hour long now, but it is still fun to do. If you are interested in watching our old episodes, or the relaunch episodes, I uploaded almost all of them to my Google Drive account. I also uploaded some of our talk show called The Wrestling Scene. It was a live show with callers. I spent most of my time trying to talk about anything but wrestling, but it was a good time! Shoot me an email at [email protected] I will share the Google Drive folder with anyone that wants them. Dan Ginnetty

I recall one or 2 commercial VHS releases. Not sure if any aired on TV. Dan Ginnetty

How important is the finish in giving a match five stars?

Just thought of another match that might have been 5 stars, except the finish ruined it. 10/28/88. Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Genichiro Tenryu. Well laid out match. Jumbo puts over Tenryu as strongly as he could. Great passing of the torch style match, except the weak finish undermines some or most of what Jumbo did for Tenryu in that match. Still 4 3/4 stars in my book. Dan
