Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?

Hansen wasn't just dangerous to his opponents. He also regularly put the fans in danger with his crowd brawling and throwing of chairs. On the same show where he broke Kobashi's arm with a bullrope, he knocked over an old lady in the stands on the way to the ring. In his book, he readily admits that a lot of what he did back then wouldn't fly today because of the threat of lawsuits. He also said that the only time Baba ever yelled at him was when he threw chairs into the crowd even after being told to stop. What it really boils down to is that it was a different world back then and Hansen's actions weren't as far outside the bounds of acceptable behavior as Nia's today. Also, being reckless in the ring is a lot easier to overlook when you're responsible for some of the greatest matches of all time. Needless to say, Nia's output on that front isn't nearly as impressive. The most her defenders can point to is a couple of decent matches with Ronda Rousey, who it was basically impossible to have bad matches with.

I don't want to see Nia within a million miles of AEW. First of all, she's a terrible power wrestler. Her inability to lift up even much smaller opponents is a big part of why she's so unsafe. How many times did she dump Asuka and Kairi on their heads while going for routine power moves? I shudder to think what she'd do to Nyla. Even setting aside the safety issues, I have zero confidence that she'd do the job professionally. Remember when she put Lana through tables week after week and then when Lana finally got payback, she turned it into a joke with the "my hole" comment? She has no respect for her craft and is an anti-vax loon to boot. Hard pass from me.

  4. Holy cow, this was great. And not just great by 2000 Vader standards, either. I thought this was legitimately on par with his WCW classics. Vader is just as brutal as you want him to be (the chokeslam onto the table and the powerbomb onto the floor is quite the 1-2 punch), but he also bumps and sells huge to make Akiyama look like a legitimate threat. And there's no sluggish moments, unlike most post-WCW Vader matches. Some spotty selling takes it down a bit, but this is still well worth going out of your way to see.

    Best wrestler of 2021

Danielson and Ibushi are two sides of the same coin if you think about it. They both overcame the size/indy stigma to become main eventers in their country's biggest pro wrestling promotion. They both work a high-risk style that has led to serious injuries. And they're both known for working matches with inanimate objects (Ibushi with Yoshihiko, Danielson with The Miz).

    Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4

Apparently Janela was supposed to go over, but he called an audible and changed the finish when he saw how over the kid was. He seems to have an eye for up-and-coming indy talent, which makes him an asset to AEW even if he doesn't have an official role as a talent scout. I was going to say the kid's in good hands if Buddy Wayne is his father (he's the one who trained my guy Darby Allin), but I just found out that Buddy died four years ago. Still, it looks like he's more of a Terry Funk than an Erik Watts.

It needs to be remembered that in Booker's very first promo in TNA, the first thing he did was mention WWE and shill his book explaining why he left.

CM Punk's current run is the one I've enjoyed the most. I've liked Darby Allin the most over the course of the year.

Your "So So Good" Top 100 Matches of All Time

My 2021 ballot is as follows: I'm more comfortable with tiers than linear rankings, so it's probably best to view my list as top 30-power gap-middle 30-power gap-bottom 40.

WWE TV 11/22 - 11/28 LeBron James is a King's Road Style wrestler

The simple answer is that history is written by the victors. In a world where WCW wins the Monday Night Wars, the worst of Attitude Era WWF would be looked at the way the worst of late period WCW is now. Another key difference is that the WWF was on fire in 1999 and WCW was falling apart in 2000. When a promotion is hot, the great stuff feels even greater and the bad stuff is easily forgotten. When a promotion is cold, the reverse is true.

    AEW Rampage - November 19, 2021

He didn't just RT an anti-vaxxer. He posted an IG story calling one of his anti-vax tweets a "really good post" and then posted some drivel about looking at both sides when he got called out. But if Tito Ortiz and Gina Carano taught us anything, it's to never expect intelligence from people who get punched in the face for a living.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?

HHH's downfall was hilarious at first, but it's actually become pretty sad. Especially considering his health issues, which must be serious given how hush-hush everyone is.

WWE TV 11/15 - 11/21 Hades is such a great game

It's almost as if there's this thing called the Internet where people who want to see attractive women in revealing clothing can do so without having to sit through matches involving barely trained wrestlers.

    AEW Dynamite - November 17, 2021

I really wanted to go to this, but I have to be up at the ass-crack of dawn for work and I'd be too wiped out the next day. By the way, for those wondering how the show is being advertised locally, "Virginia's own Adam Page" is the third guy mentioned in the radio ads after Punk and Danielson. I heard one of the ads with my mom, and when they mentioned Chris Jericho, she was like "Jericho? Isn't he old?" She also asked me if I knew about that "wrestling league."

Going back to the original question, that thing Lance Archer does where he scoops his opponent up and then gently places them down in position for an inverted DDT is the worst.

Speaking of wrestling parents, have they even attempted an explanation for why Adam Pearce hates Rey Mysterio all of a sudden?

Same here. That was the best pure brawl to come down the pike in ages. Punk is probably the smartest wrestler in the world right now.
