    Memphis: CWA WRESTLING

Continental Wrestling Association 10/29/1983 MSC STUDIOS (Memphis) FEED RECEIVED IN WESTERN TENNESSEE, NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI EASTERN ARKANSAS, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND PARTS OF INDIANA AND KENTUCKY! Lance Russell: "Hello again, everybody! Lance Russell and Dave Brown here again for CWA Wrestling in Memphis, TN. Our first segment as always will be “This Week in the CWA” Dave take it away. Dave Brown: Well thank you Lance and great to be with you and all the wonderful wrestling fans here in the CWA. Let me get all the fans caught up on all the action from this past week. · Well it was a relatively quiet week here in the CWA as all roads lead to Halloween Night at the Mid-South Coliseum but there were a few major events. First, the AWA has announced that whoever is the AWA Southern Tag Team Champions on November 7th will get a shot at the AWA Tag Team Titles right here in the Memphis. Just as we are unsure of who the Southern Tag Champs are right now, the AWA Tag Championship is also up in the air as the Road Warriors will have a major match with the Wild Bills. · In a rather strange turn of events, King Cobra turned on his tag team partner Tony Anthony. This occurred last Sunday in Jonesboro, Arkansas as Cobra and Anthony took on newcomers, Moondog Moretti and Hacksaw Higgans. The match started without Tony Anthony who claimed car trouble for his lateness. Moretti and Higgans had their way with Cobra. After Higgans nailed him with a Powerbomb followed by a leg drop, he covered King Cobra. As the ref made the count, Tony Anthony charged the ring but got there too late. Higgans got the 3 count. Tony tried to help his partner up but Cobra wanted nothing off it. After hearing enough of Tony’s pleading, King Cobra turned and sucker punched his partner. He proceeded to beat him until Len Denton rushed to the ring to protect Tony Anthony. · MATCH OF THE WEEK: In last week’s main event at the Mid-South Coliseum, Hacksaw Reed and Ernie Ladd beat Jerry “The King” Lawler and Junk Yard Dog when Reed caught Lawler in a Gorilla Press Slam as JYD and Ladd battled on the outside of the ring. · WRESTLER OF THE WEEK: “Hacksaw” Butch Reed had a special week. Not only did he and Ladd defeat JYD and Lawler but he also had a victory over Superstar Graham in Evansville and a victory over Austin Idol in Nashville. · TITLE MATCHES: Mississippi Valley Tag Title Match: Champions Hacksaw Higgans and Moondog Moretti defeated King Cobra and Tony Anthony · Successful Debuts: The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, Lars and Gene Anderson, defeated TNT, Adias and Gilbert in Johnson City TN when Gene Anderson nearly tore Gilbert’s arm from its socket. The Golden Grahams, Mike Graham and Luke Graham each had victories in their first singles competition here in CWA. Mike Graham had a huge win over King Cobra and Luke Graham defeated Randy Barber. Both matches were in Caruthersville, Missouri. Tommy Lane started his young career in CWA by going 2-0 with victories over Scotty Ferris and Buck Zumhoffe. Lance Russell: Well thanks for that report Dave. And what do we have in store for the great fans here today? Dave Brown: "Well, Lance, 5 big matches today. First it will be Hacksaw Reed vs Scott Ferris. In our second match, Mike Graham vs Randy Barber. Next we have The House of Humperdink and Jesse Barr taking on Brian Adias. Our last two matches will be the semifinals for the CWA Television Title Tournament. In one semi-final, it will be Lars Anderson and King Cobra and in the other semi-final Austin Idol takes on Big Red Reese. We will also hear from the Ernie Ladd, Sir Oliver Humperdink and The Southern Heavyweight Champion, Jerry Lawler. Lance Russell: “Wow Dave what a show we have tonight. We will get right to the action after this commercial break.” >> Lance Russell runs down the upcoming schedule for the CWA! October 29: Lexington, Kentucky at Rupp Arena October 30: Forest City, Arkansas at the National Guard Armory October 31: Memphis, TN at the Mid-South Coliseum November 1: Evansville, IN at the Soldiers & Sailors Coliseum November 2: Louisville KY at the Louisville Gardens November 3: Nashville TN at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds November 4: Oxford, MS at the “Tadd” Smith Coliseum Rundown of Matches for Halloween Night at the Mid-South Coliseum · The Commonwealth vs TNT · MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Golden Grahams vs Hacksaw Higgans and Moondog Moretti · Tony Anthony vs King Cobra · TV TITLE FINALS: Wrestlers to be determined tonight · NWA MID-AMERICAN TITLE TOURNAMENT: Austin Idol, Hacksaw Reed, Superstar Graham and Plowboy Frazier · AWA SOUTHERN TAG TEAM TITLE: Rock N Roll Express vs Bruise Brothers · AWA SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Steel Cage/No Time Limit Jerry “The King” Lawler vs Ernie “The King” Ladd WINNER ALSO CLAIMS THE TITLE OF THE KING OF CWA WRESTLING Lance Russell: "We're back and let’s get right to the ring! Take it away Dave. Dave Brown: Ok Lance, here we go. Already in the ring and getting ready for action is Tommy Gilbert. His opponent, weighing 262 pounds from Kansas City, Missouri, wearing the yellow and red tights and headband is none other than “Hacksaw” Butch Reed. Your referee is Jerry Calhoun. MATCH #1: HACKSAW BUTCH REED VS Sweet Daddy O This is a total squash match as Reed just pummels Gilbert from beginning to end. From a backbreaker to a short armed clothesline to a double underhook suplex, this match is over before it starts. Even though Sweet Daddy O is basically out on his feet, it doesn’t stop Reed from using his signature finisher. The Gorilla Press! That’s all she wrote. Reed by pinfall in 3:23. Lance Russell: Well, I must say, Hacksaw that was impressive! Hacksaw Reed: Of course it was Russell! I am unstoppable. Everything this organization puts in front on me will get destroyed. Look at what I have done to the likes of Lawler, Idol and Graham in just a short period of time. Ernie Ladd called me to help clean up this racist culture in Memphis and Black Power is rising. Hacksaw Reed: And don’t let me forget that weasel Junk Yard Dog! You are sticking your nose where it don’t belong! Anytime anyplace Dog! My Gorilla Slam works best on Uncle Tom’s like you. Just ask that sorry case for a Black man that just wrestled me. That’s right boys, get the STRETCHER for SWEET MOMMY O! Lance Russell: Well that’s enough! It is one thing to defeat another man but to try and hurt him is another. Ernie Ladd: Well I will once again put you and the rest of these clueless white folks in your place. For centuries, the people of this area have been hurting the black man. It is now time for a little reversal of fortunes. Anyone, white or black who gets in the way of the Army will go down. Monday, Halloween Night in the Mid-South Coliseum, I will take out Jerry Lawler once and for all! I will own his white behind in that steel cage. I am going to get even for 300 years of oppression and when we am done, Hacksaw Reed will be the new Mid-American Champion and I will be the Southern Heavyweight Champion. There is nothing that snake in the grass Jarrett or anyone else here can do about it! Lance Russell: Well, we will just have to wait and see. It is going to be a very interesting night of wrestling this Monday night. Ernie Ladd: We will not have to wait until Monday. The Army always has a plan. We have a little surprise for you dummies here tonight. Just wait and see as the plan starts to come together. And one last thing! I am sick and tired of that Junk Yard Dog interfering in what is right for the black folk of Memphis. He has no clue but keeps sticking his nose in my business. Fair warning Dog, get out of the way. We have no time for Uncle you and you are about to get hurt real bad! Lance Russell: Well Mr. Ladd, are you going to keep us in suspense again this week or will you give us a hint at your surprise? Ernie Ladd: You people are so stupid a hint would only confuse you. All you have to do is listen to me and it all eventually comes to fruition. If you had any brains at all, you would already have figured it out. Lance Russell: Well Dave, let’s get right to our second match. Dave Brown: Ladies and Gentleman, making his first appearance in CWA Wrestling, from Tampa, Florida, Mike Graham. Dave Brown: His opponent tonight is Randy Barber. MATCH 2: MIKE GRAHAM VS RANDY BARBER The match begins as a real technical match which has Graham one step ahead at all time. Barber tried to change all this as he backed Graham to the corner and threw a wild right hand but it was blocked. Graham agreed to fight fire with fire and returned a few haymakers of his own. After an Irish Whip and a Lou Thez Pres, Ref Jerry Calhoun made the three count. Mike Graham pinned Randy Barber at 5:48. Lance Russell: Well let me formally welcome you to CWA Wrestling and thank you for stopping Big Red Reese from injuring Superstar last week! Mike Graham: Well Lance, thank you for the kind words. I have wrestled all over this country and recently have been in the Mississippi Valley. Last week, I had a bad feeling about what was going on, so I came up in case my family needed me. Lance Russell: Family? Mike Graham: That’s right Lance, us Grahams stick together. Attack one member of the Golden Graham Clan and you attack all of us. Lance Russell: Does that mean you are related to Superstar Graham? Mike Graham: Yes, and the other lunatic out there with me throwing Wild Haymakers was our other cousin, “Wild” Luke Graham. Luke Graham: That’s right Lance, The Grahams aren’t going to sit back and wait any longer. Ladd’s Army wants a fight? They picked on the wrong family this time. Us Southerners are raised correctly. We are kind and gentle until our honor is questioned. Ladd, Reed, and most importantly, Big Red, run while you can still WALK! We have been fighting together for a long time and nobody does mean and nasty the way Luke Graham does. Mike might be the kinder, better spoken of the Grahams but trust me! As you saw tonight with Randy Barber, cross him once and you are going down. Superstar Graham: Well now this is a wrestling family. Forget about that Minnesota Wrecking Crew and the Anderson’s. Forget about Ladd and his so called family! Blood is thicker than water and it will be their blood spilled in the streets around Memphis from now on. The Golden Graham Clan is here to fight! Lance Russell: Well things here in Memphis are really heating up of late. Also folks, remember this strange announcement last week. JR Foley: Ladies and Gentleman of Memphis, I am JR Foley and I am the leader of the Commonwealth. We are coming to an arena near you very soon as we are waging war on the uneducated and uncultured people of your area! My men will soon lead a movement to try and enlighten the people of the American South. Lance Russell: This lunatic and The Commonwealth are set to make their CWA debuts in the Mid-South Coliseum on Halloween night. I can’t wait to see what this is all about. We need to take a break. > Lance Russell: We are back with Sir Oliver Humperdink who as usual has something to complain about. Humperdink: That’s right pencil nose. This Monday Night, Halloween Night, there is a wrestling extravaganza at the Mid-South Coliseum. On this card, there are 5 Title Matches. Count them stupid. 5 Title Matches and the CWA has found a way to leave the First Family of Wrestling, The House of Humperdink, out of 4 of them. Lance Russell: Well if that is your logic, the CWA might keep you out of all 5. Plowboy Frazier will have to win his first round match Monday night just to have a chance at the NWA Mid-American Title. Humperdink: You must be out of your mind Russell! Plowboy Frazier is unstoppable. He will not only will win the first round match but he will walk out as the new Mid-American Champion. My argument is with the pinheads who are making The Japanese Assassins wit for a title shot while the Rock N Roll Express and The Bruise Brothers just sit and hid from my stable. Lance Russell: I don’t think they are hiding. In fact they are in the midst of one of the most grueling showdowns I have ever witnessed in CWA Wrestling. Humperdink: You call that grueling, just wait until Magic Dragon catches one of them with a sliding dropkick into the Japanese Sleeper or Goro nails a powerbomb. It is only a matter of time. Speaking of time, let’s get to the ring as Jesse Barr will show this audience the awesomeness of The House of Humperdink. Lance Russell: I actually agree with you, let’s get to the ring so you can go away. MATCH 3: Jesse Barr vs Brian Adias Brian Adias has been slowly climbing the ratings in both the singles and tag divisions but he might have bitten off more than he can chew here tonight. Barr, the former NWA Mid-American title holder, continues with his new mean streak. Adias is able to match wrestling move for wrestling move with Barr. From side headlock to hammerlock to leg-drop take downs, the match is fast paced and action filled. After a collar and elbow tie up, Barr pushes Adias to the corner and instead of a clean break, Barr catches Adias with an elbow to the top of the head. From here, Barr continues to rough up Adias with very physical moves that includes a scoop slam. Barr picks up Adias and drops him throat first across the top rope and finishes him off with a Running Bulldog! Ref Jerry Calhoun makes the 3 count and Barr gains the victory at 7:21. Lance Russell: Ladies and Gentlemen, standing to my right, is one of the best tag teams in CWA history. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson! The Rock N Roll Express. Robert Gibson: Well thank you Lance for that introduction but we are in the fight of our lives with the Bruise Brothers. Ricky Morton: That’s right Robert. It’s Game 7. One match for all the marbles. I heard the Bruise Brothers out here last week saying they were going to destroy us. That we had no shot. Calling us little girls. The worst part of all of this is the waiting. We have been waiting for Halloween night for almost 2 weeks now. Those two goons talk a lot of nonsense and Lance Russell: Well let’s hope that Robert Gibson is ok but Halloween night is only 2 days away. Remember, the team that loses cannot have another title match for a full calendar year. As we go to break, take a look at the latest CWA ratings. A RANKINGS AS OF 10/29 SINGLES: TAG TEAMS: 1. Jerry The King Lawler 1. The Rock N Roll Express 2. Ernie Ladd 2. The Bruise Brothers 3. “Hacksaw” Butch Reed 3. The Japanese Assassins 4. Austin Idol 4. Hacksaw Higgans and Moondog Moretti 5. Plowboy Frazier 5. Minnesota Wrecking Crew 6. Lars Anderson CWA CHAMPIONS: 7. Superstar Graham 1. Southern Heavyweight Champ: Jerry Lawler 8. Jesse Barr 2. Southern Tag Team Champions: Rock N Roll Express 9. Big Red Reese 3. Mid-American Champion: VACANT 10. Mike Graham 4. CWA TV TITLE: VACANT 5. MS Valley Tag Title: Hacksaw Higgans/Moondog Moretti > Dave Brown: Ladies and gentlemen, our next match is the first semifinal in the CWA Television Title Tournament. Already in the ring, from right here in Memphis, TN, King Cobra. Dave Brown: And making his way to the ring now, ½ of the Minnesota Wrecking Crew, Lars Anderson. MATCH 4: Lars Anderson vs King Cobra: Winner to the Finals of the TV Title Tournament What a great match. King Cobra starts off really quickly catching Lars Anderson with a couple of flying head scissors. He might have thought Anderson was hurt worse than he really was as he tried to set him up for the Cobra Clutch. Anderson used his weight advantage and forces Cobra back into the corner slamming him into the turnbuckle. From here, he begins to wear down the right arm of King Cobra. As he cinches in the armbar it appears that King Cobra is about to submit when out of nowhere comes Ernie Ladd and Hacksaw Reed. They begin to pummel Lars Anderson as Ref Paul Morton calls for the bell. Gene Anderson hits the ring and tries to protect his older brother. With the odds also against him, Gene receives some of the same treatment. King Cobra and Reed hold Gene while Ladd hits him with a Big Boot. Next, Gorilla Slam on Lars. Both Andersons are hit with a Spike Piledriver by Hacksaw Reed. As help comes for the Andersons, King Cobra, Hacksaw Reed and Ernie Ladd raise their arms in symbol of Black Power. Lars Anderson is the winner by DQ but will he be able to wrestle in the finals due to the beating he just received. Lance Russell: Ernie Ladd, was this the plan you had mentioned earlier? Ernie Ladd: You finally got somethum right Russell. I told you last week that I made a call for all black wrestlers to join the cause. After Tony Anthony left King Cobra high and dry this past week, King Cobra came to his senses. He realized the white man couldn’t care less about him. He is now down for the cause and the Army is continuing to grow. Lance Russell: King Cobra? How could you turn against these people? They have been behind you since high school. I mean you are from right here in Memphis. King Cobra: As I began to think about this, I started to see what Ernie was talking about. I mean this city has roads closed to black people. It has statues honoring the KKK and you would not catch a white person in the neighborhood I grew up in. I mean we were so poor but nobody cared. They just left us to rot while they lived in their huge homes, drove fancy cars and had the best schools. I mean the world I grew up in and the one Jerry Lawler grew up in are only a few miles apart but they are from two different worlds. Ernie is right. We only exist to do their work. I mean I am sick and tired of carrying Tony Anthony is all our matches. He didn’t even have the respect to show up for our tag match last week. I won’t carry his but no more. Black Power! Lance Russell: Austin Idol better watch his back. He is up next against another of Ladd’s men, Big Red Reese. We will be right back! > Dave Brown: Well this Main Event is the second semifinal in the CWA Television Title Tournament. It will be The Universal Heartthrob, Austin Idol vs Big Red Reese. MATCH 4: BIG RED REESE VS AUSTIN IDOL Lance Russell: This match will be time limit remaining. If it does not end prior to going off the air, it will continue until we have a winner. The match is a back and forth match that has Idol doing everything in his power to take the 6’5, 410 monster off his feet but is mostly unsuccessful. Reese overpowers Idol and after a massive bodyslam, he goes for the Holy Ghost Splash. If he nails it, the match is over. He leaps and crashed down! Idol rolls out at the last second and quickly jumps to his feet. He grabs one of Big Red’s tree trunks he calls legs and steps over it. He is going for the Las Vegas Leglock! He’s got it. The Vegas Leg Lock is clamped in and Reese is in agony. Lance Russell: About 3 minute remains. Idol still has the Leg Lock clamped on Reese who starts to crawl to the ropes. Ladd approaches the apron and appears like he is going to interfere. Superstar Graham and Hacksaw Reed are going at it on the other side of the ring. Lance Russell: Just as Reese reaches the ropes, Lawler swings the chair at Ladd. Ladd somehow ducks away at the last second and the chair comes crashing down on the forehead of Reese. Referee Jerry Calhoun immediately calls for the bell as Austin Idol has been disqualified. Ladd, realizing Reese is hurt and he quickly helps him from the ring and the entire Army high-tails it back to the locker room. Jerry Lawler: I know there is only a few seconds left but Monday, Mid-South Coliseum. Ernie Ladd you BIG DUMMY! You are mine. I am sick and tired of your nonsense. I am going to fight fire with fire. Somehow, someway you are going to pay! Voice Over: "The announcers on this program are selected and paid by parties other than this station, namely, the promoters of Championship Wrestling."

    Memphis: CWA WRESTLING

Continental Wrestling Association 10/22/1983 MSC STUDIOS (Memphis) FEED RECEIVED IN WESTERN TENNESSEE, NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI EASTERN ARKANSAS, SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND PARTS OF INDIANA AND KENTUCKY! Lance Russell: "Hello again, everybody! Lance Russell and Dave Brown here again for CWA Wrestling in Memphis, TN. Well we have so much to do tonight, let’s get right to Dave Brown with “This Week in the CWA” Dave Brown: Well thank you Lance and great to be with you and all the wonderful wrestling fans here in the CWA. Let me get all the fans caught up on all the action from this past week. · Next let’s get back to the World Series Match for the southern Tag Team Championship. The Rock N Roll Express was able to pull even at 3 matches apiece with the Bruise Brothers. The latest win took place last Monday at the Mid-South Coliseum and for the third time in a row the Rock n Roll Express caught Troy Graham with a double dropkick for the pin. The final showdown between these two teams will be Halloween Night at the Mid-South Coliseum. · The Mid-South Coliseum also saw the rematch between Ernie Ladd and Jerry Lawler. This was for the Southern Heavyweight Championship and for the title of “The King of CWA Wrestling.” This match once again was unable to produce a winner. The match ended with both wrestlers tired and bloody after a 30 minute draw. · Perhaps the most interesting match this week was at the Mid-South Coliseum was a Special Challenge Match. Ladd, by telegram, had been challenged by a Mystery Opponent who said he was tired of all of Ladd’s Racist Rhetoric. Since Ladd was already facing Lawler that night, he accepted the match on behalf of Big Red Reese. As Reese stood in the ring wondering who his opponent was, the speakers began to blare “Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen. The crowd erupted as the legendary Junk Yard Dog came to the ring. JYD was obviously angry and took it out on Reese catching him with a huge THUMP. (Powerslam) for the victory. · The Japanese Assassins and Sir Oliver Humperdink continue to roll after becoming the new #1 contenders for the AWA Southern Tag Team Championship. In Evansville, Indiana, they once again defeated TNT, Adias and Gilbert, after a rolling sleeper by the Magic Dragon on Tommy Wright. The next night in Louisville, they defeated Tony Anthony and King Cobra as Goro Tsurumi nailed Tony Anthony with a Powerbomb! The one match they did not win was a 6 man tag match at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville. The Japanese Assassins and Sabu faced Jerry Lawler, Austin Idol and Superstar Graham. This match ended in a NO CONTEST as ref Jerry Calhoun lost all control. · CWA Wrestling continues to grow by leaps and bounds. This week, CWA President, Eddie Marlin announced that CWA will now be in control of Mississippi Valley Wrestling. This was a small independent company that operated in and around the city of Memphis and the Mississippi River. The wrestlers and the titles of this organization will now be part of the CWA. CWA, as part of the deal, is keeping the promotions championships intact. These championships will only be contested in CWA events in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and the city of Memphis. At the current time, The Mississippi Valley Championship is vacant while the Mississippi Valley Tag Team Championship is held by the duo of Moondog Moretti and Hacksaw Higgans. · Lastly, Len Denton made a successful CWA debut with his victory over Ken Raper. Lance Russell: Well thanks for that report Dave. And what do we have in store for the great fans here today? Dave Brown: "Well, Lance, 4 big matches today. First, it will be the newest member of Ernie Ladd’s Army in a handicap match against Randy Barber and Sweet Daddy O. Ladd has refused to tell us who this new member is. In our second match, it will be the House of Humperdink taking on Buck Zumhoffe and Scott Ferris in tag team action. Next we have an opening round match in our CWA Television Tournament. It will be Lars Anderson vs Brian Adias. Our main event will be Superstar Graham vs Big Red Reese. We will also hear from the Ernie Ladd, Sir Oliver Humperdink, The Bruise Brothers, The Southern Heavyweight Champion, Jerry Lawler, Austin Idol and Superstar Graham. And what show would be complete without a little Poffomania! That’s right folks, The Fortunate Son, Jose Poffo is back! Lance Russell: “Wow Dave what a show we have tonight. We will get right to the action after this commercial break.” >> Lance Russell runs down the upcoming schedule for the CWA! October 22: Caruthersville, Missouri at the Hopke Fieldhouse October 23: Blythville, Arkansas at the American Legion Arena October 24: Memphis, TN at the Mid-South Coliseum October 25: Evansville, IN at the Soldiers & Sailors Coliseum October 26: Louisville KY at the Louisville Gardens October 27: Nashville TN at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds October 28: Tupelo, MS at the Lee County Fairgrounds · The match of the week will be in the Mid-South Coliseum as Jerry “The King” Lawler and Junk Yard Dog take on Ernie “The Big Cat” Ladd and “Hacksaw” Butch Reed Lance Russell: "We're back but before we get to the ring, we must hear from Ernie “The Big Cat” Ladd Lance Russell: Well it is usual that I look forward to talking to you but so much has happened in the past week that I want to get your perspective on a few things. First, Mr. Ladd what do you to say about the criminal involvement of your Former army member, Mr. Sonny? King. Ernie Ladd: Watch your mouth, Russell and before I get started, How Dare you introduce me as “The Big Cat.” I told you I am the King! Lane Russell: Until you defeat Jerry “The King” Lance Russell: As I was saying, until you defeat Lawler and make claim to that moniker, there is only one King in CWA in my mind. Ernie Ladd: Again, the racism is so blatant that you can’t even see it. As for Sonny King, he is far from a criminal. He is an activist in a war that rages in the hearts of all black Americans. Do you know what he did? Lance Russell: Well, yes, Det. Wright explained to us last week exactly what Sonny King did. Ernie Ladd: Again, your cracker brain hears only what it wants to. Sonny King did burn a Confederate Flag. He burned a symbol of oppression for millions of American people. Good for Sonny King. Number 2, he is charged with inciting a riot. According to our U.S. Constitution, All people have the right to Assemble. That is all he did! The problem for you Memphis rednecks is that you are afraid anytime Black people gather. So ignorant are you all. Lance Russell: Well Mr. Ladd, you cannot possible agree with Sonny King defacing a statue in the park of a Southern Hero! Ernie Ladd: Southern Hero, Southern Hero! Do you have any idea who Nathan Bedford Forest is? Lance Russell: Well it has been awhile since I have been in school, but he is a Civil War Hero. Exactly what he did seems to have slipped my mind. Ernie Ladd: You are no better than any of the other crackers around here. Nathan Bedford Forest is the founder of the Klu Klux Klan. That’s right Sonny King defaced a statue honoring the KKK. Lance Russell: Well Mr. Ladd, a crime is a crime and Sonny King is no longer a member of your Army. How do you plan on replacing him? Ernie Ladd: We will get to that it just a moment. But first, I am sick and tired of the praise this organization gives to Jerry Lawler. You barely escaped with your title after our last match. I am demanding that this be settled. I want you in a Steel Cage. No time limit. No DQ. Winner take all. The Southern Title and the title, “The King of CWA Wrestling.” And when I am done with Lawler, don’t think I have forgotten the attack last Monday Night by the Biggest Uncle Tom this side of the Mississippi River. That’s right! Junk Yard Dog. How dare you stick your nose in my business! You may bow down to all these fans but it is not helping your cause. I am coming for you and beware, in just a moment, you will see how strong this army. Lance Russell: Ok, enough with all the suspense Ladd. He is joining your army as you seem ready to fight the whole world. Ernie Ladd: My Army is in a Crusade for Justice. We want Black Power to rise up and take control. Take control of what is rightfully ours. I recently made a call for all Black wrestlers in the CWA and the entire wrestling world to join me in this war. Last week, we lost Sonny King but wait to you see who has answered the call. Lance Russell: Do you want to shed some light on the situation? Ernie Ladd: I would prefer to show you and watch the fear in the faces of you white racist and black Uncle Tom’s. Lawler, Idol and anyone else who gets in our way, watch what your fate will be! Dave Brown, introduce that first match right NOW! Dave Brown: Ladies and Gentleman, our first match will be a handicap match. In the ring to my right is the team of Randy Barber and Sweet Daddy O. Ernie Ladd: This man has come to help restore order and culture to this city of filth. Black Power is back in Memphis and I mean POWER! It is Hacksaw Butch Reed! MATCH 1: HACKSAW BUTCH REED VS RANDY BARBER AND SWEET DADDY O Reed grabs Barber and literally throws him halfway across the ring. He picks him up and gives him a short armed clothesline that nearly decapitates him. He picks him up by the hair and Gorilla Press slams him straight to the corner. Barber tags Sweet Daddy O who is in shock and fear at the same time. He is so reluctant to enter the ring but it doesn’t matter. Reed grabs him around the arms and Double Underhook Suplexes him into the ring. He picks up Sweet Daddy O onto his knees. Places his head between his legs and lifts him up. WHAM! A spike Piledriver. Jerry Calhoun quickly calls for the bell as this move is illegal in CWA. Reed doesn’t seem to care. He picks up Sweet Daddy O and gives him the same treatment. Calhoun is waving furiously as the bell rings over and over again. Ladd scoops up Barber, another Gorilla Press Slam and then another on Sweet Daddy O. The two are laying on the mat twisted up like pretzels. Graham and Austin try their best but cannot stop The Army. Eventually Ladd catches Graham with a Big Boot and then turns his attention to Idol who has his hands full with Reed. After only a few seconds of double teaming, Reed has Idol up in Gorilla Slam position. He throws him right onto on Graham. The ring is layered with bodies. Graham, Idol, Barber and Sweet Daddy O all look like they need medical attention. Reed and Ladd walk to the center of the ring and raise their fists in a symbol of BLACK POWER! Lance Russell: We need to take a break and get order restored but before we do, take a look at this tape sent to us by a man named JR Foley. > Lance Russell: We are back but unfortunately we must here from Sir Oliver Humperdink. Humperdink: Shut up pencil nose. It seems like Lawler’s days are numbered as well as his bleached blonde bums he calls friends, Idol and Superstar Graham. Lance Russell: It is ironic that you could make fun of someone’s hair color! Does this mean you are going to take a back seat to Ladd and allow him to attempt to take out Lawler? Humperdink: Buddy Landell was right about one thing Russell. You are DUMB! The House of Humperdink will never take a backseat to anyone. In fact, I have come out here to announce that my stable of superior wrestlers is at an all-time high. Lance Russell: Same story different day, Humperdink. I mean you just lost one of your greatest wrestlers in Duke Myers. How could your stable be at its best? Humperdink: Do you think Ernie Ladd is the only one recruiting out there. I have just purchased the contracts of one of the best CWA wrestlers. Gold will be in my possession very shortly. Lance Russell: Are you saying someone actually wants to be guided by you? Humperdink: Everyone wants to be a member of my stable. I provide the best training, the best guidance and not to mention the best protection but you got one thing wrong again Pencil Nose. Lance Russell: What could that possible be? Who is this wrestler? Humperdink: As Ladd did, I would rather show you in the ring. The next match is his debut for The House of Humperdink! MATCH 2: From out of nowhere comes Jesse Barr Lance Russell: Oh no, for once, Sir Oliver Humperdink is speaking the truth. The House of Humperdink is significantly better now! Barr, the former NWA Mid-American title holder, seems much meaner and nastier the ever. He seems to have little regard for the rules and he is punching, kicking and using the ropes to his advantage. Barr continues to destroy Zumhoffe. After just picking him up, Barr just dropped him across the top rope, neck first, Jesse Barr than nails him with a big bulldog for the win. The match only lasted 4:12. Lance Russell: Ladies and Gentlemen, standing to my right, is one of the fiercest tag teams in all of Wrestling. The Bruise Brothers. Porkchop Cash: Brother, we are mad! We are upset! We wanted a sweep over those little girls, The Rock N Roll Express. We were up 3-0 and maybe we are a little off our game right now. Troy Graham: Halloween Night at the Mid-South Coliseum, I guarantee we will be the new AWA Southern Tag Team Champions. Make no mistake about it, the Rock N Roll Express are in for the beating of a lifetime. Porkchop Cash: Morton and Gibson, your days are numbered. I promise you that Jack! Lance Russell: Men of few words but they seem ready to give the Rock N Roll Express all the can handle on Halloween Night. Remember, the winners are the AWA Tag Team Champs while the losers cannot have a title shot for a full calendar year. This one is for all the marbles. Let’s get back to the ring for our next match. Dave Brown: Ok ladies in gentlemen. Our next match will be the final match in the opening round of the CWA Television Tournament. Already in the ring from the great state of Texas, weighing 238 pounds, Brian Adias. Dave Brown: And making his weigh to the ring now, from Minnesota and weighing 253 pounds, Lars Anderson. MATCH 3: Lars Anderson vs Brian Adias: OPENING RD OF TELEVISION TOURNAMENT This was a tremendous match where Adias was able to use his speed early and seemed to be on control. He actually had Anderson set up for his finisher, The Russian Leg Sweep when another large man strolled by the ring pointing at Adias! This was the split second distraction that Anderson needed to regain control. From there on, he wore down Adias’s right arm and finally forced him to submit to an armbar... Dave Brown: Your winner by submission at 9:47, Lars Anderson. Lance Russell: First of all Lars, congratulations on your first round victory. Next, while the fans here might not know exactly who this man to your right is but I most certainly do. Lars Anderson: That’s right Lance! After only a few short weeks here in the CWA, I see that nobody here fights one on one. This person has his own stable, that person has an army and do you ever see Lawler without Idol? Well, I called in one of the nastiest men you will ever see to balance the odds. This man is Gene Anderson. That’s right folks, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew is back together. Gene Anderson: From now on, whenever you see one Anderson, you know the other is close by. We are old school and when you wrestle us, you will now that you have been in a war. Rock N Roll Express, Bruise Brothers, Japanese Assassins! It doesn’t matter to us. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew is here for the Southern Tag Team Titles! Lance Russell: Fans, you might not be familiar with the Minnesota Wrecking Crew, but make no mistake about it. They leave a wave of destruction wherever they go. Tag Teams, you have been put on notice. Beware! As we go to break, take a look at the newest CWA Ratings. A RANKINGS AS OF 10/21 SINGLES: 1. Jerry The King Lawler 2. Ernie Ladd 3. Austin Idol 4. Plowboy Frazier 5. Jesse Barr 6. Lars Anderson 7. Superstar Graham 8. Big Reed Reese 9. Sabu The Wildman 10. Brian Adias Tag Teams: 1. Rock N Roll Express 2. The Bruise Brothers 3. The Japanese Assassins 4. Brian Adias and Tommy Gilbert 5. King Cobra and Tony Anthony > Lance Russell: Well guys, it seems like the job of protecting right from wrong here in CWA Wrestling has just gotten tougher. I mean we all saw what Reed and Ladd did to you guys a little earlier and now the House of Humperdink adds Jesse Barr! Austin Idol: That’s right Lance, I got my butt beat a bit earlier. It is not the first or the last time but I will tell you one thing. Ladd, Reed, you have not seen the last of us. We will see you real soon and you better bring you’re A game. Superstar Graham: Reed you might be a big boy but I am BIGGER! I was caught off guard today but let me tell you something. You see these pythons. Superstar Graham: Soon they will be wrapped around you so tight, you will beg for mercy. You can beg all you want but I am going to squeeze the life out of you. This wonderful city of Memphis doesn’t want to see your face here anymore. Idol and I are going to deliver! Lance Russell: Well Jerry, I have not spoken with you since your matches with Ernie Ladd or the AWA Champion, Hulk Hogan. Jerry Lawler: First of all, I would like to thank the AWA for the title shot. Hogan is one big man but all giants must fall one day. If I get another title shot, I will be World Champion. As for Ladd, that Big Dummy is going down real soon! The garbage that comes from his mouth has all the people around here walking on eggshells! The best thing to do with egg shells is throw them in the garbage and that’s just where the Big Dummy is going. IN THE GARBAGE! He is never taking my Southern Title and I promise you one thing, nobody will ever call him the King of the CWA! Halloween night, Ladd! It’s me and you in a steel cage! No DQ! No Time Limit! The Big Dummy will fall. One more thing Ladd! How did you like seeing my friend last Monday night? That’s right! JYD. Jerry Lawler: You are in for the fight of your life and your whole army might just get bit by the BIG DOG! Lance Russell: Ladies and Gentlemen, we need to take an unscheduled break as we try to get some order restored once again. > Lance Russell: Well I am sure we have not seen the last of the War between Ladd’s Army and Lawler and his allies. I have just been assured that our Main Event will be as Scheduled between Superstar Graham and Big Reed Reese. Eddie Marlin, CWA President, has also said if Lawler, Idol, Ladd or Reed leaves the locker room during that match, they will receive a 90 day suspension. Lance Russell: Jose, you are just the person we need to see tonight here on CWA wrestling. I mean you always seem to lighten the mood. Whether it is your attempt at a sit up record or you tripping on the ring ropes and losing in 5 seconds. Trust me, Jose. We really need you to lighten the mood tonight! Jose Poffo: Thank you Mr. Russell. I understand that things have not gone well of late but tonight, Poffomania will be at an all-time high. Tonight, I would like to challenge a member of our studio audience to an arm wrestling match. If I lose, I will give away two tickets to the most amazing wrestling show ever! Lance Russell: Wow, you must be really confident tonight. You are going to give away two tickets to the Halloween Night event at the Mid-South Coliseum. That is going to be some show. Jose Poffo: No, No, Mr. Russell. My father, Angelo Poffo is holding a wrestling event that is centered on my family. This will be a great show in our family barn and Poffomaina will be running wild! Oh Yeah! Lance Russell: Oh Brother, Poffo has chosen a young girl of about 20 years of age. She might weigh 110 pounds soaking wet. Well finally Poffo has set up something he cannot fail at. ARMWRESTLING MATCH: Jose Poffo vs unknown girl Ref Paul Morton is in the ring and has the two arms centered and ready to go. The match begins on his signal. Lance Russell: OH MY GOSH! She beat him in under 3 seconds. Poffo is bedside himself. He is jumping around and screaming that the match was not fair. He is saying that he is left handed and demands a rematch. The young girl laughs and accepts. Ref Paul Morton is in the ring and has the two arms centered and ready to go. The match begins on his signal. Lance Russell: I don’t believe it. This time she slams his arm to the table in 2 seconds! Jose should have quit while he was behind. Poffomania does seem to be running wild. Lance Russell: Well that is exactly what we needed tonight! Something to ease some of the tension that is in the air. Dave Brown: Well this Main Event might not help the situation. It will be with TV Time remaining. Already in the ring, a member of Ernie Ladd’s Army, standing 6’5 and weighing 410 pounds, Big Redd Reese. Dave Brown: His opponent, standing 6’4 and weighing 275 pounds, former WWF Champion, Superstar Billy Graham. Your referee will be Jerry Calhoun. MATCH 4: BIG RED REESE VS SUPERSTAR GRAHAM Neither man seems to care that their allies are banned from ringside. They seem to have a strong dislike for each other and Jerry Calhoun has his hands full trying to keep this under control. Wrestling rules do not seem to apply to this match. As TV time starts to wind down, Superstar Graham buckles the knees of Big Redd with a few overhand smashes. He thinks he has weakened him so he goes for his signature finisher, A BEARHUG! Graham can barely get his arms around the 400 pound giant. Reese still has his feet on the ground and is able to fight his way to the ropes. Both men topple over the top to the studio floor. Graham seems a bit worse for wear. Red sees Graham on the floor and leaps into the air and crushes down on him with a HOLY GHOST splash on the concreate floor. This match is all but over. There is no way Graham could get back to the ring. Lance Russell: We are under two minutes remaining in our TV Time. Instead of rolling back into the ring and getting the win, Big Red picks up a chair and clocks Graham over the head. Graham is now busted wide open for the second time today. Lance Russell: About 1 minute remains. Ref Jerry Calhoun calls for the bell. Big Red Reese has disqualified Reese. From the back comes two men who quickly begin to beat on Reese. Reese has no chance in this two on one and. They are throwing wild haymakers and Reese is in trouble. Superstar Graham is back on his feet and joins the fracas. Reese is out on his feet! Lance Russell: We will have to wait to next week to find out who those wrestlers were that helped Superstar out. See you next week folks! · Finals for the CWA Television Championship · 4 Wrestlers Battle in a one night fight for the vacant NWA Mid-American Title · Match 7 between The Rock N Roll Express and The Bruise Brothers for the AWA Southern Tag Team Championship · Jerry Lawler vs Ernie Ladd for the Southern Heavyweight Title and the Title of “King of Wrestling.” Voice Over: "The announcers on this program are selected and paid by parties other than this station, namely, the promoters of Championship Wrestling."

Love seeing the Texas Dynasty in an AWA match. Keep using the all the AWA has to offer as the cards get better and better.

    Southwest Championship Wrestling Results

Wasn't saying more of a national feel to Southwest but in general. A match between the Texas Dynasty and The Wild Bills or The Road Warriors would be awesome. I enjoyed seeing Jerry Lawler have a shot at Hogan and cant wait until the AWA Tag Champions come to Memphis. Dusty Rhodes and Harley Race or Ric Flair made for supercards even though they were from different territories. Beating Race and being NWA champ had a lot to do with who Tommy Rich was in 1981. Again, just to be clear, love what Southwest is doing but also enjoy the mixing of rosters with national title defenses.

Enjoyed reading the TV show. The Texas Dynasty continues to be a fun read and I enjoyed the Alfred Hayes bit. Liked hearing about the Fabulous Ones against the Wild Bills. Wish there was more of a national feel at times. Love the territories but enjoy hearing of the champions making the rounds.

    Championship Wrestling from Florida

Kevin Sullivan is a show stopper where ever he goes and you used him so well. I really like the future of CWF as there are up and comers, newcomers, and main eventers.

    Free Agency Wire

I am already picking last in the December draft so it doesn't matter to me. I draft Chief Thundercloud from the Nov draft. I now drop Chief Thundercloud and pick Gene Anderson. Is this ok?

Memphis will add Gene Anderson. That will give me 34 wrestlers so I do not need to drop one

Mid South Wrestling on Tour Oct. 1983

What a busy week for JYD. The card at the Superdome is one to remember! Andre and Hansen seems like it is ready to explode. Mid South is a great read as the interviews are so full of fire and that energy carries right into the matches.

CWA wrestling would like to thank the AWA for giving a well deserved title shot to Jerry Lawler.
  18. Loved the match ups! Reminds me of when I was a kid and I think this is why so many of us are involved. The territory system and especially Southern Wrestling was all about brawls and surprises. I get wait to find out who the tall man in the dark jacket was. Loved seeing Rich come back from the sneak attack!

    CALL FOR MANAGER

Memphis is in search of another manger. If anyone is looking to drop one into free agency as some rosters get trimmed down or looking for a trade, let me know. Would love with an English accent or from Canada.

    Memphis: CWA WRESTLING

JHAWK, Thanks for the review. I am sorry if my writing was not clear. I tried to get the idea that his contract was breached because he lost on purpose. He actually breached his own contract on purpose to get out of Memphis.

    Memphis: CWA WRESTLING

Thanks for the reviews. Goc, I am somewhat new to Memphis and I need to do some research on Eddie Marlin. Thanks for the guidance. I agree with Tommy GIlbert not being a young star but he might be the best some of my small gymnasium venues is going to see so I want them to feel like they are getting a decent show. As for the long show, I am sorry but I find it easier then writing two or 3 a week with info on the house shows.
