  1. Fuerza Guerrera against Negro Casas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think Villano III paid off fans for their seats, so his brothers could set front row! Take that Ted DiBiase. First fall is quick, highlighted by Atlantis and Villano III doing an awesome exchange ending with a vicious Atlantis tope. Then we get the dream between Casas and Fuerza which does not disappoint, before the tecnicos quickly wrap up the fall. Falls ending does not stop Villano III and Atlantis as they brawl all around ringside. With Atlantis ripping up the mask in revenge from the previous match and even beating up Villano III right in front of his brothers.Atlantis tries to freaking rip the seat off a chair to use to kill Villano III. This feud is the best. Casas' reaction to Salvaje coming at him was priceless. Salvaje gets one shot before Casas loses it on him, although the rudos use their numbers to tie up the match. Casas is a house of fire in the third fall. I truly think Casas would had been the best hot tag wrestler in southern wrestling he was so great here. Atlantis clears house and goes for a tope, but the Villanos brothers jump up and stop him and drag him outside the ring to kick his ass. An old lady tries to get the referees attention to get him to turn around to see the cheating, but he ignores her. Camel Clutch by Villano III seems to get him the win over Atlantis, however some dude in a suit lectures the referee. The referee ignores the lecture and raises the rudos hands! I loved this, but it was pretty short. Maybe *** 3/4.. maybe ****.
  2. We are firmly embedded in the Atlantis and Villano feud as they pair off at the big brawl and Villano starts going after the mask ripping it. Atlantis mask is a mess as he is having to use his hands to cover up. Due to the mask ripping, the tecnicos win the first fall. Segunda starts with more of the same and Atlantis is wrestling this match maskless which is a pretty impressive feat that he is able to guard his identity. Villano doesn’t give a shit about anything and keeps slinging him into the chairs. Tecnicos make a big comeback with Atlantis getting a back up mask for him to use. They really start attacking Villano and Atlantis is all fired up. The tecnicos end up getting DQ’d in an interesting reversal when the rudo ref says they didn’t respond to his commands. Great receipt with Villano going head first into the chairs and then Atlantis picking them up and slinging them down. I love seeing Atlantis show this kind of fire. Pierroth is favoring his leg so of course Casas attacks that locking in a half crab. Atlantis and Villano come back for an inside the ring sequence with Atlantis rolling through his offense. Pierroth and Casas do a good job as a secondary feud showing some hate against each other as well. Niebla and Wagner get in on the fun with a nice sequence and a big Niebla tope. This leaves Villano and Atlantis back at it and Villano gets the submission win clean as a whistle. Wow, what a great finish and they cut to crowd members who are pretty stunned. This was an excellent hype piece and a I can’t wait to watch the build to the apuestas match. ***3/4
  3. Along with Cerebro and Vampire this is a classic apuestas match and an example of the throwback lucha style that could still be engaging in the 2000’s. There was little doubt as to whom was going over but little facets like the faceless red mask helpers of Silver Fox along with the crooked referee that didn’t try to be the star of the show like Tirantes helped things along. This escalated in a classic style of rudo onslaught, tecnico comeback, mask ripping, and submissions and pinfalls as the culmination. Atlantis does a nice dive in the third fall and does a nifty pin to put things away when he cant lock on the Atlantida. **** (7.8)
  4. Just when you think Shocker’s gear can’t get more epic, he says “hold my beer.” TB and him shake hands and Atlantis has had enough and violently shoves him down. Dantes and Satanico join in the attack and they have Atlantis reeling in a brutal submission. They refuse to break and the tecnicos win the first caida by DQ. Meanwhile, TB is dancing on the ramp. Sequnda Caida is more of the same with the rudos whipping ass and Tarzan Boy checking out his hair. Shocker does another great guapo pose walking on his knees flexing his muscles. Atlantis grabs a breather and tries to talk some sense into TB. Emilio does so as well and is ready to fight. Inside, Atlantis hits a great comeback taking out all the rudos. Emilio also comes in all fired up even accidently hitting the referee. They go to tag in TB and he refuses. They have had enough and send TB into the wolves. Satanico, Dantes, Shocker all attack TB and get the quick pin. This booking is tremendous. Final fall time and even that beating didn’t knock any sense into TB. He does a hilarious job of acting hurt when Emilio and Atlantis tell him to get inside. Of course, he meets the devil on his shoulder in Shocker. Shocker and TB seem to be really going after it and then they embrace. This is really layered as it feels like TB has proven his toughness and is good in Shockers book now. However, when he turns his back, Shocker dropkicks him and follows that up with a big dive. This ends the finishing stretch with Emilio flying around and Atlantis getting a big pin on Satanico only for TB to roll in and reverse it giving the rudos the win. Atlantis now beats the shit out of TB. The booking of this feud continues to develop and it seems like it is only a matter of time before TB goes completely to the darkside. ***1/2 (7.1)
  5. Atlantis jumps Villano III in the ring and takes his mask right off. What a brutal hate filled feud. Atlantis is even aggressive with the referee and beats up Villano as he goes to the back. The rudos come out and Satanico decides to take the boots to TB once again. A nice bald head that Satanico is sporting. Brutal rudo beatdown that was reminiscent of a lot of the stuff we saw in January but still entertaining. Rayo and Cien is great given their history together. Bestia gets in a low blow as Satanico has TB by the hair. All of a sudden, the tecnicos make their comeback. Cien gets thrown into the announce booth and Rayo has some words to say. We get some brief Atlantis vs. Satanico interactions and I clamor to see them in a long form match around this point. TB gets his revenge but Satanico yanks him by the hair to take over again. I like that bit of psychology that plays into their apuestas match. Rayo rolls around avoiding contact and Atlantis gets the Atlantida to win the match. Afterwards, he helps stretch out Villano III when the rudos back up come out led by Villano III. You knew he was going to have a receipt for Atlantis and he gives it as Rayo is handcuffed. All roads are now leading to the big 3/17 show and stuff is peaking perfectly. ***1/4
  6. Wagner gets in the face of Perro Aguayo at ringside. This was his first appearance in CMLL since the AAA split. Wagner also hits a clever foul right as the ref was looking away. Atlantis really is a superb tecnico as he takes it to Wagner envoking a lot of hate even though he is entrenched in the big feud with Villano. Really fun finish to the first fall with Wagner and scorpio all tangled up in a crab together. Atlantis gets La Atlantida and wins the second fall. Out comes Villano III and the fight is on. Villano III is ripping at the match and Bestia goes after Perro! Villano takes the match off and parades around with it. Huge chants of Perro rain down from the Arena Mexico crowd. Here he comes as a house of fire as the Arena Mexico crowd erupts. Him and Bestia have a great exchange. Atlantis gets his mask back on and goes nuts on Villano on the ramp. Now he rips his mask! The showdown between Perro and Wagner is intense in the ring. The rudos retreat but Wagner and Perro aren’t done as Perro gets his suit ripped. A kid hugs Perro as the faces celebrate. Oh shit here comes the rudo reserves and they beat the shit out of Perro on the ramp and in the ring. We cut to kids in the crowd looking like they are about to cry. Here comes the tecnicos to rush them out and another brawl breaks out. Perro has color. I have no idea how to rank it because its not really about the match but holy shit what a segment this was. ****1/4
  7. This was the lucha action I was looking for. Classic pairings with Villano vs Panther, Dandy vs Atlantis and Panther vs Atlantis. We even get Zumbido and Niebla being tremendously entertaining in their dance off. Everything takes time to develop and just melds itself into an extremely satisfactory match. The rudos have been looking impressive throughout this show and pick up another win here. I didn’t think this really developed any blood feuds for the future but for 8 really established lucha stars, they went out and did their best to satisfy the fans and viewers. ***3/4 (7.6)
  8. This was exactly what it needed to be. Atlantis starts off pissed and is ready to take TB to the woodshed but TB will have none of that and gets vicious winning the first fall. He continues the attack in the second fall even after Atlantis gets looked at by a doctor. Nothing is really cheating per say but it is really chippy. Atlantis comes back with La Atlantida and wins the second fall. Third fall starts with Atlantis going ape on TB on the outside ramming him into the post and giving him a stiff clothesline. The crowd is nuclear and Emilio Charles is telling him to put TB back inside the ring. Atlantis mounts and just punches away before they go to the entrance ramp. Punt kick from Atlantis and TB is checking his teeth. Atlantis lifts him up and throws him back into the ring. Surfboard and Atlantis is killing him. Just then, TB hits a foul with the kick and gets win by celebrating like he just won an apuestas match. Even Emilio and Villano III as seconds are arguing. Trash gets pelted into the ring. Interview with TB and he is cocky as ever. This was exactly what this match needed to be and is a tremendous feud. When TB goes full rudo, it is going to be so glorious. **** (8)
  9. Tarzan Boy was born to be a rudo. He delivers easily his strongest performance of the year being a selfish prick that only cares about himself throughout the match. Shocker is great being right there with him as the devil on his shoulder inviting him to the darkside of rudoism. Overall, this was note perfect with Atlantis and Niebla being attacked by all three rudos and Tarzan just standing on the apron half looking for a tag. Once he gets in, he holds the ropes open and Atlantis spills to the outside. The sequences between Shocker and Boy in the ring are impressive as you can feel the appreciation that Boy is gaining for Shocker. Tarzan gets the pin and is happy about himself. His trunks say 69 so you know TB is a douche now. Bestia and Shocker go in for the hug on the apron and TB is receptive so this is the turn and was done so well. ***1/2 (7.1)
  10. Things are going along well enough until Lizmark hits a missile dropkick on Scorpio and completely fucks up his leg. We get some gruesome replays of the event and Scorpio rudos it up for the crowd after Lizmark is taken out. Bestia keeps working over the match of Atlantis and we go straight to the finish with Lizmark out of the way with the rudos dominating. Like the previous match, a nice collection of sptos and characters but we are still waiting on something with real juice. *1/2
  11. We get a vignette to start to cement Villano’s tecnico turn. He comes out in big poncho and cowboy hat and the fight is on. We get some neat pairings and brawling throughout all of this. I even enjoy Pierroth in this setting as he is the garbage brawl guy of CMLL. Shocker continues to grow IMO and you are seeing with each match how he could become the guy for the promotion. His sequences vs. Atlantis were easily the best technical wise in this match. First two falls are DQ’s on opposite side and the expression Shocker gives to the crowd after he sees a bloody Pierroth is awesome. How can you cheer someone that does this to my friend? The third fall is more of the same with everyone ramped up and Villano maybe being a tecnico but still not being adverse to taking a shortcut by getting a pin with his feet on the ropes. CMLL is definitely back. ****
  12. To say I was hyped about this as a lead into the apuestas would be an understatement. We cut to Villano having Atlantis in a Boston Crab to which Atlantis sits straight up from. The armdrags are beautiful and Villano is able to finish things up with his submission. If something works why not go back to it right? Villano does with some added leverage of his leg wrapped around Atlantis’ head. Atlantis is able to work that into a Gory Special where I would have liked more struggle from. The repertoire of rollups Atlantis rolls through was a nice bit of him throwing the preverbal kitchen sink to try to even things up. Atlantida is hooked and that is a wrap on fall two. Time for the big third fall but wait a minute here comes the doctor. Villano can’t continue and gets carted off to the back! What a rudo piece of shit. Amazing stuff here. All of a sudden Villano comes out from the back and gets hit with a back breaker and a lariat. Villano returns the favor, goes after the leg, locks on a submission and wins! The towel is immediately thrown over Villano who hightails it to the back and something may be awry. Villano gets pelted with garbage and its apparent he switched with his brothers when he went to the back. Atlantis is PISSED! He delivers a spirited promo demanding retribution. Holy shit what a feud. Classical lucha beginning to the biggest stakes by the end. ****
  13. The Villano angle that formed out of the mask match is really one of the more unique and in depth one I have ever seen. With losing his identity, Villano is now left to question his moral compass and his entire belief system. This is brought into the forefront right away here as Villano and Atlantis take it to the mat and Villano gets angry at Pierroth and Fuerza coming in to take cheap shots. After the mat work, Villano gives a clap showing his appreciation. Casas and Fuerza come in next and that is a classic pairing so them going after each other is always welcomed by me. Rayo and Pierroth being the final pairing is a little odd because its by far the least intriguing of the three but they kept it brief. We then get a snippet of Casas and Villano which has me salivating and starts with a handshake before transitioning into a really quick sequence. Pierroth is mad that Villano is shaking hands. Villano gets put as the proverbial sacrificial lamb as all the tecnicos hit a big move on him to put him away on the first fall. Pierroth and Fuerza contemplate a walk out between falls as the tecnicos are putting Villano over. Pierroth and Fuerza get Atlantis in a vulnerable position and Villano refuses to take the cheapshot. I really can’t get over how engaging this storyline is. Rayo is put in the same position and the same thing happens. Fuerza has had enough of this shit, fouls Rayo to draw the DQ and then beats the piss out of Villano. The rudos then tie Villano up for Pierroth to get his electricity skewers that he shocks Villano with. Villano’s selling here is magnificent. Another match that isn’t about the action per say but like the first Villano and Atlantis match, the storyline and development was some of the most memorable and well done stuff I have seen. ****
  14. If the apuestas delivers for me like it has in the past, Villano vs. Atlantis really is one of the all time feuds in wrestling. This was a tremendous final taste before the big battle with the masks getting ripped, hate all around, the Villano Brothers rushing the ring showing their presence will be felt and overall anticipation that next week, this is going to be a war. Add into that Perro stepping into a CMLL ring for the first time in many years and Shocker and Bestia being great heel pricks and this was awesomely enjoyable and had me wanting to jump ahead to the 3/17 show right then and there. ***1/2
  15. This match couldn’t reach the levels of the previous trio but it did have some good stuff mixed in it. Villano and Atlantis continue their march to the big match together with Atlantis trying to go after the rudo tandem from the onset and getting beat down. We see Villano grab a drink from the crowd but sadly the camera cuts away before we see what happens. There is some weird clipping in the second fall too where Emilio and Dr. Wagner are in the ring and then we go straight to Villano and Atlantis without any tags. Villano was able to obtain the victory and the build remains strong six weeks out. Charles and Shocker had a go at each other throughout this match and that was a fun looking feud. Shocker for his part stayed out of the way mostly. Fun stuff. ***
  16. Take the two hottest feuds in wrestling and combine them in one trio is a recipe for goodness. I didn’t think this quite reached the level of some of the other stuff based mainly on the lack of double and triple teams but it was some great stuff. I like how Atlantis vs. Villano has a hate feeling to it but a more classical feel. Satanico vs. TB is straight Jerry Springer hatred. The snippets of Atlantis mixing it up with Satanico made me hope they tangle it up one last time. TB gets his revenge on Satanico for the first time in a while and Emilio piles on with his signature dive from the apron. Tarzan Boy goes for a dive and wipes out clutching his knee. Atlantida and that is a win for the tecnicos. TB is hurt on the outside but still getting stomped on. ***
  17. CMLL is still moving along nicely. This starts with a big time rudo beatdown and Perro has color early on. Perro and Ano 2000 go after each other right away and are the main feud throughout the whole match. First fall goes easy to the rudos and then the tecnicos are able to make a good comeback in the second fall. The Dantes/Satanico vs Olimpico/Atlantis pairings are interesting in that they are interchangeable throughout the match and all are intriguing to one degree or another. The finish actually plays into this as Atlantis got the Atlantida on Satanico for the second fall victory and he locks it in the final fall until Dantes shoves him into the referee. With one referee bumped out and the other on the floor checking on Atlantis, they commit a blantant foul and then pin the tecnicos for the win when the bumped referee comes back to life. A really nice win for the rudos and the feud between Perro and Ano is really strong and heated right now. ***1/2
  18. The rudos are in more militant gear tonight. Bestia gives some hellcious punches to Negro Casas as they pop it off really strong in the first fall. Second fall starts with Niebla flying around all over the place performing great moves. Shocker continues to fake getting fouled but no one is buying it. Casas gives a receipt in the second fall to Scorpio by kicking him right in the dome as the tecnicos take that fall easily. We keep cutting to a kid in the Villano mask and Rugrats Tee shirt that is mugging hardcore for the camera. Third fall was really quick but had Tarzan Boy and Niebla flying around all over the place. A la magistral cradle is done by Negro for the pin. A quick sprint but a blast to watch. ***
  19. Porky does a cartwheel in his opening pairing with Guerrera which was excellent. Markus honestly doesn’t look that far behind Porky in the weight department. Villano and Atlantis have another good brief exchange that culminates in Villano submitting to the Atlantida again. Villano again cant get along with his team and this is becoming a trend my man. Fuerza shoves him to knock some sense into him but he shoves Fuerza back to the cheers of the crowd. With all of that miscommunication, the tecnicos are able to gain the victory as Villano stomps out in disgust. Ok this is leading somewhere and I am interested. We did get enough glimpses of action here to that moved things along. **3/4
  20. One of the biggest accomplishments of WWE current day is not falling into What Now? territory following WrestleMania. They have presented the Raw after Mania in such a way that some people look forward to it more than the big show. CMLL was following the tremendous 3/17 PPV and kind of has to find its bearing again. This match sort of bears it out. It starts and people are brawling and it is fine but doesn't have the same zip as the stuff we have seen in the first three months of the promotion. Then Villano and Shocker start arguing and the focus takes more shape. This match overall is less about the action and more about that storyline as the match as a whole gets waved off. This did get me interested to see Villano and Shocker continue to have a feud. **1/4
