    [2013-07-24-WWE-NXT] Emma vs Paige

    Talk about it here.
  2. I really like how they laid out this match to how they booked this feud. They found the right tone for Emma's character as she realized how dangerous Asuka is but still thought she could beat her by outsmarting her. Also really liked Emma's in-ring performance, she worked really smart and laid in a lot of her shots while not being afraid of taking anything from Asuka. It was cool to see Asuka dust off some of her old strike combos. The most noticeable difference between Asuka here and her work in Japan is how much she plays to the crowd. She rarely worked in front of big crowds in Japan so it's nice to see her adjust and work "bigger" here. The finish was smart even if there was a few minor issues with the execution of it. ****
  3. This is a rematch from Takeover: London plus Asuka's last match leading up to her title match vs. Bayley at Takeover: Dallas. The opening part of this match quickly reestablishes the Bugs Bunny/Yosemite Sam rivalry between the two with Emma trying to outsmart Asuka but the reverse ends up happening. Emma does eventually gain control and starts to work over Asuka with a variety of holds. Unfortunately, this does take some steam out of the match as Emma doesn't really mix in anything flashy to get a reaction out of the crowd. They do pick it up for the finish though with Emma actually hanging in there with Asuka during a strike exchange, but she ends up costing herself the win when she argues with the ref after he caught Emma with her feet on the ropes during a rollup. One of the better WWE/NXT women's matches of the year so far. ***3/4
  4. Not really shocking this was better than their Raw match that had to build to that terrible Wrestlemania match. Anyway. I enjoyed this mainly due to Emma's performance, she continues to build her case as a top 5 WWE worker in 2016. I loved the move where she went to roll up Paige but instead just slammed her into the corner, it looked vicious as does everything she does. Paige and her three moves are ok I guess but don't look especially good even if Emma does her best to make them look so. Fun three minute match, really no reason why all other short TV matches shouldn't be like this.
  5. Seems like Natalya and Charlotte alternate between opening their matches between chain wrestling that looks either solid or sloppy, it looked ok here. Charlotte escaping the waistlock by using the ropes and then quickly cutting off Natalya with a big boot was a smart and efficient spot. Emma's character work on the apron was ofen more interesting than what Charlotte was doing inside the ring. Man-Emma viciously slammed Natalya's face right on the apron like LA Park did Dr.Wagner Jr. in their TxT match. And then she hit her with a bunch of good looking punches. She's really grown into a great worker. Ok, I really liked the "Charlotte pulls Emma out of the ring while Becky is beating on her and then Becky goes after Charlotte only to get hit from behind by Emma" sequences. Have to wonder if this is a reaction to me critizing agents for phoning it in. Emma is just so vicious in everything she does and I could see myself turning into a Charlotte supporter if her big boots and head kicks become like a third of their offence like they kind of were here, another really neat spot was when Emma was stretching Becky and as soon as the ref pulled Emma back Charlotte kicked Becky in the face. Holy shit Charlotte randomly Forearms Becky off the apron! I'm all in on this match. And then as the ref turns his attention to all that jazz Emma cheapshots Becky! Natalya makes the hot tag-and has some good ideas, she does an awesome like......back suplex/atomic drop hybrid followed up with her cool stomp on the back but her execution is also often lacking. Natalya gets Charlotte in the Sharpshooter but she tags out to Emma while in the hold and Emma cuts Natalya off with a great clubbing blow! Man this match ruled. I need to think up a name for this kind of spotfest. It wasn't that they just went through a bunch of moves, rather they had a lot of ideas and sequences and clearly spent a decent amount of time putting it together. Much like the American Alpha/Revival match in that regard. Sneaky good. ***1/2
  6. Look I get WWE is big on nepotism but this is the kind of match that should be getting PPV spots. Becky is really good and Emma is a top 10 WWE wrestler right not at worst, maybe top 5. The way she used Becky's hair while in offence was super nasty, she'd stretch her and throw her around in all sorts of ways. Loved the finish and how they incorporated Becky going for her finish into Emma taking a cheapshot. Emma now has a Northern Lights Michinoku Driver finish to confirm her transformation into a great 1993 puro worker.
  7. At this point Emma is basically a Sheamus if Sheamus lived up to his hype. She stretched Paige while stomping on her hair and just beat her up. I don't really care for Paige's shtick but she's not terrible or anything. The finish was though, but I expected nothing more considering what it was setting up. Decent match.
  8. Good grief-Emma might be my favourite wrestler after this match. Some fun chain wrestling early on and then Emma just potatoes Natalya with an Elbow, drops her on the apron, Butterfly Suplexes her on the floor, kicks her in the head.....I mean what more can you want out of a pro wrestler? Natalya does one move and wins the match with it. Not sure this was *the best* match on Raw but it was definitely the most entertaining one for me.
  9. Talk about it here.
