  1. About 5 of 10 minutes aired. Acute Sae was a talented girl who could grapple and retired a year later. There wasn't much grappling here as the match was basically pro style and a showcase for both girls offense. Both have really good offense, Sae hit some judo throws, flying armbars and worked over Ran with nasty double stomps. Ran was her usual self hitting extraordinarily stiff kicks and elbows. Fun little clip.
  2. Super fun 7 minute undercard match full of slick mat scrambles and stiff blows. Super Rider sucks when he's doing pro style, but he looks really good doing straight shootstyle exchanges. His submissions are a bit different to what the BattlARTS crew usually does and it makes for a fun contrast. All of his submission counters were great. Ono was of course fantastic demolishing him with slick strikes. He also did some crazy sharp, brief work on the leg. It makes me sad though that a wrestler as good as Ono was jobbing like this to a no name outsider in 2001.

  4. Awesome grappling match with the Doctor looking great. Good to know I can thrust myself from 7 years ago on... some things. Some people have talked about how lucha has just as good storytelling or psychology as all the other wrestling... which it doesn't really need to have, because lucha is great as it's own thing. This match gave me the same giddy feeling I get from a high end WoS or shootstyle mat contest, while being it's own thing entirely. Sometimes, you just wanna watch awesome wrestlers roll around on the mat and in the case of mexicans that often involves lots of freaked out wristlocks and rolling surfboard holds and whatnot that you don't see in any other kind of wrestling. And that's why lucha rules and doesn't need to be measured up to a bollocks standard of Flair matches or whatever. You can go on about all the symbols and meaning of all this, with Cerebro carrying a green worker, headbutting him a bit for his trouble and the kid upsetting the veteran some and all that... but in the end, I'll come back for the grappling.
  5. This is a battle between to of the younger finalists, although Iida made it all the way to the finals last year. Yamashita takes over in the early going as she bulls over the smaller Iida. She counters back with some really nasty work on Yamashita's arm trying to take away her main weapon. But Iida makes a tactical error in getting caught up in strike and big move exchanges, which allow Yamashita to be able to use her arm just enough to be able to fire back. I really liked Yamashita's arm selling as she seems to be gutting her way through the pain as oppose to your typical fighting spirit no-selling spot. Great, physical main event from a couple of promising young joshi workers. ****
  6. This is a matchup between two Meiko Satomura trainees. As you would expect, it's pretty hard hitting. After some early back and forth, DASH takes control on the outside with a chair then works over Mizunami's leg after they get back in the ring. Ryo puts over the leg work well as she doesn't do any of the hard charging that she usually does while she is on offense. Eventually, DASH makes the mistake of staying too close to Mizunami who just starts suplexing her like crazy. The finish really good as you have Mizunami trying to hit her power offense, while DASH is trying to counter out of it. Very entertaining stuff. ***3/4
