Well shocker, this was good. I've been a wXw sceptic forever, but gotta give it up for them flying in an old japanese guy almost no one has heard of and let him completely outwork their boy and everyone else on the show. I've never been blown away by Thatchers grappling and he didn't do anything great here either, but that may have been the story of the match. Basically Ishikawa outclasses Thatcher the whole way through, making up great counters and doing cool shit I've never seen him do before. Thatcher has to resort to potatoeing Ishikawa and he doesn't hold back. Some BattlARTS worthy smacks here. This doesn't reach the higher pantheon of Ishikawa singles match but that is a pretty high bar and for Ishikawa taking on an unfamiliar guy who looks so much bigger that it's seemingly not the best matchup and have a match this good is really impressive.

This was shown somewhat complete (12 out of 14 minutes) so Bison Kimura working hard wasn't in vain. This was quite the good match between two talented workers you don't hear much talk about. Combat comes in with a bad arm and Kimura pounces right on that. Combat works this as the bigger, badder, tougher woman, using her good arm to swat Bison in the back of the head and hitting huge suplexes. It's really fun to watch these two clobber eachother, I really liked Kimuras well placed chops to the elbow and shoulder, and she was tenacious in attacking the weak spot to gain and keep control. Combat knew how to sell when it counted. It's infuriating that JD' only had a 1 hour TV spot because Bison was a beast.

Exactly the kind of fun weirdo spectacle you want from a sleazy boxer vs. B-movie action character match. Howard hits all kinds of fun offense including a fucking flip senton to the outside and magistral cradle, and Dempsey punches him really hard. Not exactly well rounded pro wrestling, but you don't want well rounded pro wrestling from this matchup. Also, just the right length at 5 minutes.

DAMN I wish we got this in full. Sean McCully still rules here hitting all kinds of awkward and unexpected stiff offense. Fugofugo has worked CAPTURE so he totally can go against Sean. This match was a bit of a strange mix, on one hand you had Sean McCully punching dudes really hard in the face and Fugofugo busting him open hardway with headbutts, on the other there was lots of Corino comedy, miscommunication spots etc. There was also lots of amusing Fugofugo hard head and human cannonball shtick, one spot where Wagyuta tombstones Fugo onto Corinos chest etc. For a clipped undercard match this gets the full point in terms of sheer entertainment value.

This is the predecessor to their match a week later. I had no idea this match even happened, gotta love the internet. This wasn't a classic like the rematch but still really good technical lucha action. Dandy choking out Azteca in the opening fall was a really cool way to start. Then, we get the usual classy exchanges throughout. Man I love old school lucha with the focus on simple hip throws, fireman carries and leg trips. Everyone is almost offended when Azteca throws a punch. Then, Chavo Sr. Proceeds to get heel heat for complaining about forearms. Great finish to the 2nd fall. 3rd was really good with Dandy almost knocking out Azteca with a dropkick and Texano hitting a brutal powerbomb. Loved the big Chavo suplex, too.

In a promo before the match, Storm says that Hiroyo is a dream opponent for her. They don't try to do anything epic here, but they still go out an have a really fun match. The whole match is back and forth between the two of them, neither one of them is in control for too long. In fact, they must have lost track of the time because they don't really build to a finish as the time limit just ends which felt different if unintended. A very fun match. ***1/2
