  1. Grimmas

Grimmas said: I am under the impression that any wrestler that is the wrestler of any year should be a nominee and Syuri is the wrestlers of 2021. She's just reaching her prime now and had two all time classics and was so good Stardom had to abandon their long term plans to crown her champion. A lot of her earlier stuff while she was still fighting in MMA is good, but not elite. However, once she retired from fighting and went wrestling full time look the fuck out! Obviously her kicks and submissions are amazing, but she gets the drama of wrestling so well. The passion she shows while fighting as an underdog, or the meanness she shows as a bad ass ace both rule. A perfect blend of shoot style and pro wrestling. Recommended Matches: vs Utami Hayashimta (2021-06-12, Stardom) vs Unagi Sayaka (2021-07-10, Stardom) vs Momo Watanabe (2021-09-25, Stardom) vs Utami Hayashimta (2021-12-29, Stardom)
  2. OZ Academy Tag Team Championship: Hikaru Shida & Syuri © vs. MK4 (AKINO & Kaho Kobayashi) I've been really enjoying AKINO's work lately, and I thought she was solid here; I dig her approach to these tag matches. Kaho is obviously the FIP, and she did a great job; Shida & Syuri's work over session was rough (in a good way). My favorite moment is when Shida chucks her shinai at AKINO. Great match. ***3/4
  3. Sendai Girls Tag Team Championship: Hikaru Shida & Syuri © vs. Cassandra Miyagi & DASH Chisako Good match; felt like it went longer than it needed to be, but the action never slowed down. This mini Shida-Miyagi rivalry is great, and I enjoy how Shida sells Miyagi's fuckery. Chisako spent most of the match getting bumped around and worked over, but she makes a surly comeback. Syuri had just signed dat UFC contract so the finish protected her a bit. ***1/2
  4. OZ Academy Tag Team Championship: Hikaru Shida & Syuri © vs. MK4 (AKINO & Kaho Kobayashi) This was a very well-worked tag match, where the abundance of spots were chained together rather smoothly. Kaho makes the most out of those dramatic near-falls, and the kick-heavy segments between Syuri and AKINO were amazing. Another very entertaining match from Shida & Syuri. The Shiri does it again! ****
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pglPdQ7_H2o This one almost snuck by me as I didn't know that it had happened until I read the results of the show. The match itself is what you would hope it would be, a contrast between the technical striking/submissions of Syuri versus the straight forward bulldozer style of Yamashita. The whole story of the match is Syuri trying to avoid and counter Yamashita's power. This is a damn good match that you don't want to skip out on if you don't watch the undercards of joshi shows. ****
  6. Mayumi Ozaki vs. Syuri POLICE ambushes Syuri with her own Persian club and pulls her by chain through a violent merry-go-round. An 'Ozaki match', fuckery, weapons and POLICE being the biggest scumbag in the world. The 'actual wrestling' isn't too bad either as these two know how to throw snug hits. Syuri put on one of her strongest singles performances I have seen from her in a while, I think I even saw tears in her eyes. ***1/2
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OE4zCJuQ3Q This is a rematch of their super underrated match from exactly one year earlier. The main difference between this match and that one is that this match is more about strikes and suplexes than matwork. Honestly, Syuri probably took nastier shots here than she has in any of her MMA fights so far. Even thought the match is short they both put over how hard hitting it was with their selling. Strong match that should be a big win for Syuri. ****
  8. Match Link - Match starts at 1:08:00 This is for Shida's & Syuri's OZ Academy tag titles. I was excited when this was first announced because Hiroyo and Kagetsu were a team in one of my favourite (and highly underrated) tags from last year, 4/2/16 vs. Thunder Rock. Then again, this is OZ Academy where potentially great matchups turn mediocre. Matsumoto looked great here. She is definitely all in for this chance to have a run on top of a promotion. This was also the best match from the Shida/Syuri team. They focused more on straight tag work rather than weapon shots and brawling. It's really nice to see a match that looks like what OZ Academy should be. ****
  9. It was neat to see AKINO flashback to her Arsion roots here. Her matwork is still pretty good even though it isn't quite as crisp and quick as it use to be. Syuri looked pretty damn good here. Her strikes, matwork, and selling all looked terrific. I do wish they had kept up with the matwork throughout the match as towards the end it gets scaled down in favour of big moves. Still, this is a pretty good match and a nice change of pace for OZ Academy. ***1/2
  10. This is a really fun match for the OZ tag titles. Unlike most matches in OZ Academy, they kept the action in the ring. Shida and Syuri do an effective job in the early going of cutting the ring off on Yoneyama and working her over. Yoneyama especially looked good here, bumping and putting over her opponents offense while making fiery comebacks. Kuragaki was the same while playing the powerhouse of the team. Shida and Syuri have been a bit underwhelming as a regular team so far but they were good here with hopefully some more good matches during this title run. ***3/4
  11. Fun match. These girls all have good offense while at the same time too broken down to do anything to workrate-y so there was no no-selling or annoying prideful screeching. I always pop for Kuragaki's Norton-ish power spots and her moonsault into outstretched legs looked savage. AKINO vs. Syuri section was pretty good and I like Akino's mix of kicks and cradles. Akino still can do some slick spots. Dug the bit where Kato and Akino took turns kicking Kuragaki in her face to cut the big woman down. Some sloppiness keeps it down.
  12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N85-typ-rY This is one of Syuri's last matches as a 'regular', as she's scaling back her wrestling career to focus on MMA. The start is exactly what you would expect from this two, kick exchanges mixed with submission-based matwork. Satomura eventually gets control but Syuri always keeps trying to comeback at her. When Syuri does get back on top, she goes on a great run that leads to some convincing nearfalls. Could have used a bit more variety from Satomura at the finish as she gets a bit too DVD-happy as she's prone to do at times. Other than that, this is a great match. One of the best women's matches so far this year. ****1/4
  13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FvBGEs91zE It's exceptionally rare that you see a match that is built around the performance of a rookie, but this match is centered around Kana trainee Konami. There is also the interesting dynamic of both Syuri and Shida being junior rivals of Kana in the past. The story of the match is Syuri and Shida focusing on Konami with one of the matches biggest strengths is the way they find interesting, reasonable ways to get Konami offense. Anytime she manages to get something in it's done in a logical fashion, not forced. Even when Kana gets tagged back in she gets in some offense but eventually falls to the 2-on-1 situation because she doesn't have any backup. Everyone in the match plays her own role very well leading to a great match. ****1/4
