  1. Talk about it here.
  2. I didn't expect to see a solid Match of the Decade contender at this point, but this was it. Just an incredible match, if CMLL did this kind of story based intense pro wrestling more often there would be no stopping the company. The psychology was sharp as a knife, early Virus working over Metalico with shots to the head followed by a control switching dive sequence felt straight out of 90s AJPW. The struggle and nearfall sequences where top tier and as good as it gets in lucha. I realize I'm sounding a little generic here, but they worked so many fine details into the back and forth, combined with a determined Metalico giving it all to take down the trickiest wrestler in the world. I haven't seen as much Metalico as I probably should have but he was great here as the aging gunslinger who would throw fists and fight tooth and nail. Even his sloppiness added to the match. Virus was as classy as usual. Every counter was incredibly well executed and perfectly timed, with some great struggle over holds and pins thrown in. Loved the constant punch outs which gave the match a feel like somebody would have to be KOd for it to end. Gotta love the fact they made suicide dive feel this epic in 2019.
  3. Some great exchanges between UG and Angel Azteca here. Cool to see Angel still hanging and banging with the kids. Man did CMLL have a roster of amazing athletes in the late 90s, Ninja de Fuego and Oriental are two pretty random names but each looks like the most spectacular dude in the world at various points. It also helps when you got a pair of professionals in Virus and Rencor stooging for you. Another super fun match in a stream of quality lucha material from CMLL.
  4. Pretty excellent Cibernetico with mostly undercard workers busting their ass. One good exchange after another and they used the dives sparingly which made them feel more important. They do a really good job building and teasing the eliminations and the last 10 minutes or so felt suitably epic. Also, this was before superkick and backcracker mania, so when it was time to drop bombs everyone was hitting cool suplexes, powerbombs and sentons. Olimpico looked super sharp again and it's a pity there's so little Damiancito online because he looked great. Also really liked Axxel/Sagrado who was like a Mini Santo hitting super athletic moves.
  5. Fun lucha dance partners go HARD for japan type match. Virus looked almost indistinguishable from his current form, meaning that was great here. Marvin looked a little green and sloppy, not always 100% with his form, but didn't blow anything. Virus on the other hand executed all his stuff effortlessly. To be fair, Virus has probably done 500 matches like this, and equally as many matches of this type have happened over the years in japan, there was nothing particularily outstanding here. Still it's a chance to get to see Virus do his thing, which is better than most wrestlers doing theirs, honestly.
  6. Nothing like watching Virus earning himself a paycheck. You could probably stick him against any half competent dude and get a strong 20 minute match out of it. And that's pretty much what happens here. Prayer doesn't exactly leave a huge impression, occasionally Virus would feed him holds and he'd do rudimentary reversals or try a move of his own. But mostly he was there as the local guy for the fans to rally behind against the nationally recognized master, and get yanked around and stretched for the 20 minutes duration. Virus is skillful enough to sink into tricked out and painful looking submissions on any unsuspecting guy and there was plenty of that to behold. Prayer does get the odd nice run of offense, but the outcome was never in doubt. You may decide whether this kind of match is proof of Virus' greatness or just the standard output of craftsman who knows what he's doing in and out, but no matter what I'm going to enjoy this show.
  7. Man what did Virus' mother ever do to Hechicero? Some really high end grappling as expected but the match featured even more than that, I loved the spot where they dramatically took their shirts off and started a chop exchange only for Virus to quickly cut off Hechicero by kicking him in the leg. Hechicero has some signature spots like the corner knee and the spinning backbreaker and I loved how they'd do sequences where he'd get overzealous and then Virus would counter him and he'd get stuck in/on the ropes. Finishing hold was absolutely breathtaking. ****
  8. Neat little maestros match, a couple of escapes were a little awkward but other than that this was a blast.
  9. An amazing sprint, not sure I can think of a better lightning match. Very accessible and easy to get into even for non-lucha fans due to it being all action and the nature of the match gave the nearfalls even more urgency and credibility, especially if you're familiar with both guy's offence. The chain wrestling opening bit was short but really well done, loved Virus' flash submissions and they more than delivered on the highspots.
