[1996-09-30-WWF-Raw] 'Double J' Exposed

Recommended Posts

Do they really think anyone cared that Jeff Jarrett didn't sing "With My Baby Tonight"? This is one of the worst things the WWF did that year, and they did some stupid stuff.

I vividly recall watching this at the time and saying the same thing. I figured that maybe it was a country music thing, trying to appeal to rednecks, but even that doesn't make much sense.

This is an angle where there's absolutely no way to end up making money on it. None. What were they thinking?!

This was so stupid. Meanwhile, Jeff Jarrett was having the best run of his life in WCW having great matchex with Benoit and Malenko, and tons of fun interaction with the Horsemen. Yeah, I was a fan of the Jarrett/Mongo/Debra triangle.

Vince said Jarrett's last appearance was after losing to HBK but wasn't Jarrett in WWF in 96 too?

Came back in late 95 and had a match with Ahmed at the Royal Rumble. But let's pretend it didn't happen.

Jarrett smashing Ahmed with the gold record was cool, at least.

Ooh, SECRET REHEARSAL TAPES. Fascinating. Yes, this is a monumentally dumb and incredibly petty angle. This reveal MAY have worked when Jarrett & Roadie were active parts of the roster, just because they were an effective heel tandem getting split up and not because it's a brilliant plot twist.

So I guess this was an angle they had planned all along? that was one thing I never got. Anyway, we learn that Jesse James was the real singer and they present this as a huge scandal. I somehow doubt we are getting a ten part Netflix series on who the real Double J is.

This is so stupid. I'm already tired of the Jeff Jarrett talk. Jesse James is evidently a pretty decent singer though.
