1991 Recommendations

If this is still open, I've been watching some USWA from early 1991 I can give some brief write ups for stuff that were pretty well done from the begining of the year...

I'm sure that Flair's debut is going to be earmarked for this, but I'd also like to recommend the opening of the PTW episode that featured Flair's debut, with Heenan berating the whole crew in nervous anticipation of Flair's arrival.

Not sure how far along this is, but I just watched a fun Enforcers/Young Pistols match from the Power Hour on 10/12 that might be worth a look if you have room. Fun little sprint. I really liked Larry Zbyszko as Arn Anderson's tag team partner and wish they had stayed together longer, rather than Arn moving on to team with Eaton.

With '91 being the next yearbook we'll do, I wanted to ask if there is anything for All Japan that was partial on TV, but is available complete either on Classics or a comm release. I want to make sure we include the best versions of all matches.

I don't recall 1991 WCW being loaded with interesting angles, but sifting through this you might have some things jump out at you.

Not All Japan here but one oddball is that Taker-Bulldog WWF Title match from Canada that weekend between Survivor Series 91 and Tuesday in Texas. It was posted in some thread a while back. Aired up there and in Europe only I believe.

There's a lot of interesting indy stuff from WWA and TWA, including Funk-Backlund. Gilbert begging Lawler for a job at a Joel Goodhart luncheon is '91.

Funk/Backlund is really good and I definitely want to include it.

Just watched this and I don't think i've legit ever been more let down by a match in my life. Funk's my #3 favorite wrestler of all time and i've always loved Backlund too. This started out awesome for about 4-5 mins, then they did a 5 min head lock spot followed by a 10 min test of strength spot followed by 1 min of action and a roll up finish by which point I was screaming "fuck you both" in my head.

The return of Rick Steamboat to WCW was a cool angle and a great match. Maybe one of the Young Pistols- Freebirds matches . It's quite the testament to the Southern Boys as a team to get some of the best matches the Birds have had in years.

Choshu vs Hashimoto 8/10 (HH) and 11/5 are compact and continue the ever-reliable rivalry.

Mr. Perfect vs. Shawn Michaels from the Super-Stars and Stripes Forever special. Good TV match with stupid finish to heat up Perfect/Bossman at mania.
