[1992-07-04-WWF-Superstars] Update: Nailz/Big Bossman recap

Recommended Posts

They recap the Nailz attack on the Big Boss Man, and Gene does a phone interview with him. They show pretty hardcore pictures of Boss Man looking beat up.

Good job with the pictures of Boss Man looking really busted up from the beating. Okerlund calls up Boss Man to harass him/get his thoughts on what happened. Boss Man mentions losing a lot of weight and that he will be returning soon.

Clips of Nailz attacking Bossman, who talks to Okerlund by phone. BBM mentions he said on the WWF Network he'd be back sooner than Nailz thinks. This angle was great but Kevin Kelly wasn't the guy to give you much of a payoff in the ring.

Pretty presumptuous of Okerlund to just start peppering BBM with questions without asking if he was busy or something. Quick comments from the BBM promising to return sooner than Nailz thinks.

The photos were an incredibly effective followup to the attack. As cheesy as the idea is this has been executed very well in every aspect except the in-ring part. Kelly sucked to begin with and on top of it he was being asked to play essentially a non-wrestler--which I guess is the right role for him.

The Nailz beatdown is shown, with some grizzly photos of the aftermath. One has to wonder if Cobb County just let him keep his prison uniform, and where exactly he got his hands on a nightstick and cuffs.

I think they said that he stole Bossman's nightstick, Mike. As for the cuffs and uniform, that's the kind of detail that good little marks aren't supposed to worry their heads about.

The photos here look like they were taken from some real-life accident. Either that or Vince hired an Academy Award-winning makeup man to do the makeup job on Bossman.

Gene essentially repeated himself about this possibly being the worst beating in WWF history and about Bossman being broken. That's very rare for him, and it may be an indication that they realized just how thin this feud was going to be once the initial angle was done. But if that's the case, why not hire someone who's more capable of holding up his end in the ring (and who isn't the type to choke out his boss)?

Interesting if irrelevant find: Even though Jake's gone, he's still featured on the cover of the latest Coliseum Video. This is despite him not having a match on the tape. I guess the Warrior angle might have been on it, or maybe him turning on Taker.

Very effective angle to follow up on the big beatdown of Bossman.  I am torn on whether I want to see any matches given the comments.
