[1991-01-12-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Fabulous Ones & Jim Cornette

Recommended Posts

Fabs are wearing chaps and the USWA tag title while Cornette is wearing some peach suit with a yellow jacket. They talk about facing Lawler and Dundee at the MSC and how Terry Funk put a 50k bounty on Southern Champ Jeff Jarrett.

Funk has put out another bounty - another $50,000 on Jeff Jarrett! Funk doesn't want to face anyone! They are coming after him next. Seeing Cornette in the Memphis studio doing his thing is really fun.

I am loving the Fabs/Cornette in this setting as they look like a big time tag team that is a threat to the top babyfaces. Cornette was great in his promo and again Kiern looked awesome mugging for the camera.

Pay downgrade or not, what a relief it must have been for Cornette to finally get a chance to cut loose on the mic in meaningful angles after spinning his wheels for most of his last year in WCW.

Dave Brown insults Cornette’s outfit immediately. They replay the previous week’s beating of Lawler. Cornette thinks the hardest part of this whole thing was pretending to care about the fans. There is bounty out for Jarrett now as he is a contender to Funk’s title. Cornette advises they will be looking to win that bounty.

Boy, the Fabs and Corny are really taking to this bounty hunting stuff, huh? First Gilbert, then Lawler, now Jeff. Watch out, Dave Brown, you may be next!

Corny really seems to be having fun here, and if even a fraction of what we heard about his last year in WCW is true, it's easy to see why. Sure, Memphis may be a wee bit too small of a pond for him, but better to have fun frolicking in a small pond than have to constantly fight to avoid drowning in a big one. Besides, working a program with Lawler, Dundee, and Jeff in Memphis isn't exactly minor league. The Fabs seem to be adapting well to life as heels, although it really didn't take much adapting on Stan's part, since he'd just come with Corny after being one half of the MX.

All we need now are some promos from Funk and we'll be all set. I'm guessing he was in Japan around this time, which would explain why we haven't heard from him yet, at least in Memphis. (I know he worked at least one match in Dallas against Lawler, since we have it on the set.)

Disc 1 of 1991 is in the books, and this was definitely my favorite angle on the disc. Loving the return of the Fabs with Cornette with the Lawler promos in the Memphis TV setting. It just doesn't get any better than that. Promises of a Dundee/Lawler vs Fabs match... yes.
