I just thought it was cool that the whole "WWE IS GONNA ERASE HIM" thing isn't now part of the Network , which is smart.

I agree, just mocking the same feelings that people in certain groups and forums had last year when the Wrestlemania matches series episode featuring his back-to-back MitB wins aired.

My response was that they did an episode on Guerrero-Angle, and Angle is still with TNA all these months later and Eddie is still hanging with Generalissimo Francisco Franco.

I had forgotten how Konnan used to call people "homosexual man" in Spanish during his entrance (except that he wasn't saying those exact same words but I'm sure you can guess the equivalent in English).

Not speaking spanish at all, that totally went over my head. However, I did learn what "tossing your salad" meant while listening to Konnan, and for that, I'm forever grateful.

And peeling my potatoes...

Funny how Konnan used to be able to get away with using prison/street/hip hop slang because nobody running the show was young or hip enough to know what was going on. I'm not even sure they had anybody aware of what was hip and cool other than Hall, Nash, Konnan, Rey, Jericho and a couple others.

On the Spanish slang, to be fair to WCW, WWE is not censoring it either. I saw somebody (perhaps Alberto) using Spanish swear words fairly recently (2012 or after) that he would probably be fired over if they were in English on live TV.

This makes me think of Dave Chappelle having a big laugh about white people finding out what "skeet skeet" meant after allowing it to play all over the radio.

Oh, and for something wrestling related, when Khali had Runjin Singh as a translator apparently Khali was saying really nasty stuff in Punjab. I remember someone saying one of his promos on Cena was talking about raping Cena's mother and shit like that.

Khali said "maa chodh doonga" which literally translates to "I will fuck your mom". It is a very common way of colloquially insulting someone in India, although that, of course, is no justification. He also called Batista "kutte", which means "dog", which is again a common insult in India. Different culture.

Watched two things on the Network last night:

Kevin Nash HOF special: This was actually really interesting. In addition to the behind-the-scenes footage of Nash during the HOF, they also had footage of Nash walking back to the locker room after winning the WWF Title in 1994. I had no idea they ever filmed stuff like that back then. Holy shit! It was surreal seeing Capt. Lou Albano and an underwear-clad King Kong Bundy congratulating him after the match. It's also surprising how seamlessly Hogan was edited out of all the nWo footage.

The WWE List - Shocking Title Changes: Fluff, as expected, and not particularly good. But two things stood out to me: 1. Adam Rose is always a great "talking head" on these things, and 2. I'm surprised Chyna was mentioned so much, and in a positive light! I didn't realize until now that Jarrett originally "won" the Good Housekeeping match before it was restarted. What was the point of that if he was leaving the next day? Also, Hogan showed up a few times here. Guess you can't erase him from everything.

  • 2 weeks later...

I may have given the entire ECW run a shot chronologically if they had uploaded the 1994 and 1995 commercial tapes. I wasn't a huge fan back then (I was already watching much better stuff in New Japan or AAA at the time) but I still found it a fascinating promotion. It's just that if you don't have the big shows the TV is a series of infommercials including some good, some bad and some terrible stuff.

I'm looking forward to the new JBL talk show where he'll have "WWE legends" as guests (Bischoff, Simmons and Road Dogg have been announced).
