Great Birmingham show, loved both of the last two matches. The Armstrong are gonna have to pick it up against the..um fire guys? It's nice to see the Shadow Riders still getting their push.

The Shadow Riders are a tricky one for me, I liked how Kris booked them, but I have nothing for them at the moment. So that's why their be on my B loop until I find something for them. And as I like my trios (Armstrongs, Studds, Heavenly Bodies, Fire Gang?) I might have to put them with Dutch when he returns.

Loved the match ups! Reminds me of when I was a kid and I think this is why so many of us are involved. The territory system and especially Southern Wrestling was all about brawls and surprises. I get wait to find out who the tall man in the dark jacket was. Loved seeing Rich come back from the sneak attack!

It probably isn't the person you think it may be...

SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TV

Saturday 22nd October 1983

Taped in front of a live studio audience at the WTBS Television Studio in Atlanta, GA

Hosted by Charlie Platt and Gordon Solie

The credits roll and we join Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt for another week of exciting wrestling action. Gordon Solie runs through the card this evening, we have National Heavyweight Champion Buzz Sawyer in action, Ricky Gibson and Tim Horner will be in tag action, Johnny Rich continues his quest up the card to get another shot at Jimmy Golden, the Armstrong Brothers will be here and todays main event see’s Southeastern Television Champion Charlie Cook defending his title against Jimmy Golden and much, much more.

Johnny Rich joins Gordon and Charlie. He says that more focused than he has ever been to get one last match with Jimmy Golden so he can settle the score. He knows Golden has a TV Title match tonight and he has faith in Charlie Cook getting the job done. But for tonight he continues on his march towards retribution. Johnny Rich makes his way to the ring to faces of with Tony Falk. Johnny who is clearly a few levels above Falk, and defeats him in 4 minutes with a Running Power Slam and the pin.

We are back with Gordon and Charlie as they welcome former Southeastern Tag Team Champions Ricky Gibson and Tim Horner, they say that this past Monday they were cheated out of regaining the Tag Team Titles when a mystery man came to the ring and hit Gibson with a side walk slam and place a lifeless Jim Cornette on top of him for the win. They have spoken with Stanley Blackburn and he has agreed with them to one last title match but this time to be held inside a 15 foot high steel cage to keep anyone and everyone out of the ring. They go on to say that Stanley Blackburn agreed the match it comes with a catch, if Gibson and Horner fail to defeat the Heavenly Bodies then they will be forced to part as a tag team but it’s a risk their willing to take to regain the titles. Tonight they face of with Bill Howard and Norman Frederick Charles III, they make light work of the team and get the victory after a double dropkick to Howard and cover him for the victory in 5 minutes.

National Heavyweight Champion Buzz Sawyer joins Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt, Gordon goes over what happen last week in Birmingham where Buzz refused to have a tag team partner in his in his match tag team match with the Studd Stable, and says this week he defends his National Heavyweight Title against Robert Fuller. Buzz promises that he won’t only beat Robert Fuller but he will put him out of action. Tonight though he has the match against Josh Stroud where he makes quick work of him, defeating him in 2 minutes with a Running Power Slam. After the bell rings the Studd Stable storm the ring and begin to beat down Buzz Sawyer. Sawyer puts a fight to give the fans some hope, but the 3-on-1 is too much for the champion as the Studd Stable take control. Much like a few weeks ago the fans are calling for “Wildfire” Tommy Rich to come and help him but there’s nothing. The locker room empties with Gene Ligon, Marty Jannetty, Ted and Jerry Oates, Tony Falk, Tommy Wright, Rick McCord and Ron Ritchie come to the ring to break up the Studd Stable from there brutal beat down of Buzz Sawyer.

=== Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia ===

Southeastern Tag Team Champions Bobby Eaton and Tom Pritchard, The Heavenly Bodies along with their manager Jim Cornette and the mystery man join Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt. Jim Cornette starts of by celebrating his victory in the Southeastern Tag Team Title match on Monday in Birmingham. Gordon challenges Cornette to who this man is that is accompanying him and his team. Cornette goes on to say this is the Heavenly Bodies insurance policy, and his name is Big Bubba Lynch and he’s here to make sure nothing funny happens. Cornette goes on to talk about this week’s big cage match in Birmingham, where the Heavenly Bodies will put to bed this issue with Gibson and Horner. Jim Cornette moves onto address the National Tag Team Titles, he says he knows the Fabulous Ones cheated their way to winning the titles last week in Texas, but Stanley Blackburn has signed a massive National Tag Team Title match for next Monday night in Birmingham, the winners of this week’s cage match will go on to face the Fabulous Ones next Monday night for the National Tag Team Titles. As for tonight the Heavenly Bodies defeat Marty Jannetty and Gene Ligon in 5 minute in what can only be described as exhibition as Ligon and Jannetty got very little offence in on the champions. The match ends when Pritchard hits a Top Rope Elbow drop on Ligon and covers him for the win at 5 minutes.

“Wildfire” Tommy Rich comes to the ring as he faces off with Jerry Bryant. Tommy who has been having his issues with the Fullers for a while is scheduled to face off with Jimmy Golden this Monday in his quest towards the National Title. This evening he dominates Jerry Bryant in 6 minutes and finishes him off with a Thesz Press and covers him for the 3 count. After the match he makes his way to the announcer’s desk where he says this Monday continues his quest to get a rematch with Robert Fuller and then move onto the National Heavyweight Title, he says that if he can’t win the National Heavyweight Title by the end of the year then he will leave Southeastern Championship Wrestling forever.

=== Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia ===

We return with Brad Armstrong making his way to the ring with his brother Scott Armstrong to face off with Tommy Wright, but before he can get to the ring both men are jumped by The Flame, Fire and Torch, they beat down the Armstrong’s. This is clearly a way to send a message to Brad and Scott father who The Flame threw a fire ball at a few weeks back putting him out of action. The Flame will face off with “Bullet” Bob next week in Birmingham when Fire and Torch will be handcuffed to Brad and Scott, but they are trying their hardest to take Brad and Scott out before the big Southeastern Heavyweight Title match next week. Flame, Fire and Torch leave the Armstrong brothers motionless on the studio floor.

This week’s main event see’s Charlie Cook defend his Television Championship against Jimmy Golden. This match has a 10 minutes time limit. The match starts with a fast pace and Jimmy Golden clearly trying to get an early victory, but Cook is a bit tougher than to get pinned in 2 minutes. The match goes about 7 minutes when Cook is pushed into the referee, who gets knocked down by it. Golden hits a low kick to Cook and calls someone from the back, Robert Fuller comes to ring and climbs up onto the second rope and Golden and Fuller hit a deadly Spike Piledriver on Cook, Fuller goes to wake the referee up as Golden covers Cook. The referee rolls over and makes the 3 count at 9 minutes and Jimmy Golden is the new Southeastern Television Champion. Ron Fuller comes to the ring to celebrate with Robert and Golden. From the back Buzz Sawyer storms the ring swinging a folding chair as he cuts the The Studd Stables celebrations short, and chases them to the back.

A different show than I tuned in to a couple of weeks ago and perhaps for the better with what you have already built up Southeastern to be. I like the idea of a Steel Cage match to keep people in and then turn around to have a bloody all out brawl but I would probably side with Rain on the idea that the cage is a main event gimmick and could have really sold the Fuller/Sawyer match more happening after it. You would have to utilize how the announcers would put over if a cage could even hold these two guys when watching the action of the tag team match unfold. On the flip side, you need to put over your major singles title, which you did in the main event, so it is all by choice. Running the two shows isn't taking too much away from you and with Marty Jannetty getting the build from the B Show, we can only wait to see if he will find a partner or find a niche to be successful on the A show.

I was really quite surprised that Buzz Sawyer lost the title so cleanly. Would have thought the dastardly Stud Stable would have gotten a bit more involved in that.

Jimmy Golden also taking the TV Title off the Brisco AND Funk approved big man Charlie Cook means The Stud Stable is definitely making some waves. I can only imagine how much bragging would be going on in their promos, those guys certainly liked to celebrate when they won anything.

Putting Tom Lintz in the Big Bubba role isn't the most original idea but he would have definitely looked imposing in the get up. I wonder what Tim Horner and Ricky Gibson are going to do now that they can no longer team up.

I like the Stud Stable getting a lot of gold. Gives Rich and Cook somebody to chase for a while. I wonder who the next tag team to challenge the Heavenly Bodies will be since Gibson and Horner can't tag. Seems like your hottest feud is still the Armstrongs vs. the Fire Gang.

Southeastern Championship Wrestling Catch Up

Just important notes from these weeks.

29th October 1983 - Television

The Studd Stable celebrate not only Jimmy Golden winning the Television title but also Robert Fuller winning the National Heavyweight Title this past Monday in Alabama. Both men go onto say they will be exercising their right to the “28 Day Rule”, Charlie Platt ask’s what that is, Robert goes on to say that they will only be defending the title when they have to and it will be after 28 days. Robert Fuller’s know both Buzz Sawyer and Tommy Rich want a shot at his National Heavyweight Championship and Jimmy says that he knows Johnny Rich is working his way up the card to get a match and Charlie Cook will be wanting a rematch also. The Studd Stable say they are putting a bounty on both Rich and Sawyers heads, and they already have a trio of takers.

Both Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer cut separate promo’s stating their intent to win the National Heavyweight Champion. Buzz Sawyer says he welcomes any bounty on his head and looks forward to the fight that is coming, while “Wildfire” says he’s so focused on winning the National Heavyweight that nothing will stand in his way.

Ricky Gibson and Tim Horner come out and thank all the fans for their support and their kind words, but it goes to prove all good things unfortunately come to an end. But both men vow to find a new partners and continue in the tag division fighting their way to the Tag Team Titles. At this point the Heavenly Bodies with Jim Cornette and Big Bubba Lynch come to the ring and also thank Gibson and Horner, for handing them their titles, and this Monday they will defeat The Fabulous Ones and add the National Tag Teams titles to them persons. In the main event this week, Tommy Rich goes up against Fire, only for the Fabulous Freebirds, Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts, to storm the ring and attack Rich, it becomes very clear very quickly that the Freebirds are here to collect the bounty placed on Rich’s head from The Studd Stable. Later in the show the Armstrong brothers defeat Jaggers and Mantell to become the number one contenders for the double tag titles.

The Studd Stable are joined by the Fabulous Freebirds and hand them their cash for taking out Rich and Sawyer. Later in the show, Gordon Solie informs the fans that this week in Birmingham we will see, Michael Hayes versus “Bullet” Bob Armstrong, Buzz Sawyer takes on Buddy Roberts and “Wildfire” Rich takes on Terry Gordy. The Freebirds are in action later in the show defeating Tim Horner, Johnny Rich and Charlie Cook.

The Heavenly Bodies, Big Bubba Lynch and Jim Cornette come to the ring and celebrate being double champions, and they are ready for the Armstrong’s this Monday. The Heavenly Bodies defeat Josh Stroud and Gene Ligon.

To end the show Buzz Sawyer cuts a promo stating that he doesn’t need help from Tommy Rich and wishes the fans would stop chanting his name, he spent far too long kicking the tar out of Rich to ever want his help. Tommy comes out and says he respects Sawyer but feels the same, he hates him for the 18 months he put him through, but respects him, although they have similar goals and should both just get on with them. At this point the Freebirds come out and attack Rich and Sawyer, “Bullet” Bob to comes out and evens the sides, only for the Studd Stable to come out and make it a 6-on-3 and both the Stable and Freebirds get the advantage and stand tall at the end of the show.

The Heavenly Bodies come out laughing and say that they now have their sights set on the AWA World Tag Team titles that our held by The Road Warriors. The Armstrong say they isn’t any need as they are taking the titles.

“Bullet” Bob calls out Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer and asks them to put there difference aside to settle the score with the Freebirds, but Sawyer and Rich refuse to tag one another. While the 3 of them argue with one another and the Freebirds storm the ring and attack Armstrong, Rich and Sawyer. All 6 man brawl to the back.

The bell rings and The Freebirds attack “Bullet”, only for the lights to go out, they return and Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer are both standing in the ring and shake hands, the crowd goes wild and all 3 man attack the Freebirds. The trio of Sawyer, Rich and Armstrong defeat the Freebirds and send them packing. Clearly the bounty put on the heads of Bullet, Mad Dog and Wildifre back fires on the Studd Stable, it only united them.

19th November 1983 - Television

The Studd Stable come out and say that they are refusing to pay the Freebirds as they didnt finish the job with Sawyer, Armstrong and Rich, and if a job is worth doing, its best to do it themselves. Robert welcomes Randy Rich to the ring, a young skinny man who looks very similar to Tommy Rich, Robert welcomes Randy to Southeastern Championship Wrestling and asks if he’s ready for his National Title Match, Randy says he is, but he's defeated in a matter of moments.

This brings out Stanley Blackburn who says he's had enough of Robert Fuller and his games, he says that he will be booking his matches going forward and if it’s one every 28 days thats fine, the first will be this Thursday in the Omni for Thanksgiving against "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer in a rematch that everyone has been waiting for, while Jimmy Golden will be defending his Television title next Saturday against the new number 1 contender, Johnny Rich, but before that Jimmy Golden will be going one on one with "Bullet" Bob Armstrong this Thursday and Ron Fuller hasn’t gone unnoticed as the ring leader of the group, he will be facing off with "Wildfire" Tommy Rich this Thursday at the Omni.

"Bullet" Bob Armstrong comes to the announcer’s desk with his sons and he says that now they have settled the Freebird issue he’s moving onto the National Heavyweight Title and he will defeat Jimmy Golden this week in Atlanta and move onto Robert Fuller.
