January 7, 1984 - WWA Superstar Challenge @ the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN (airing throughout Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and portions of Ohio – airing as Wrestling at the Chase in St. Louis)

David McLane welcomes us to the show and introduces WWA Commissioner Arnold Skaaland. Skaaland announces some major changes coming to WWA in 1984. In addition to a lot of roster changes during the month off, he is announcing a few changes as to rules within the WWA. First off will be the institution of a top ten rankings system, which will be updated weekly beginning February 4 and be factored almost entirely on win/loss records. With that are some changes to the match structure. On the weekly TV show, time limits for all singles matches will be 10 minutes with 15 minutes for tag team matches, with title matches being either 30-minute time limits for TV time remaining depending on how the show has gone to that point.

Skaaland also announced that due to their relationship with the USA Network, including the NWA Showcase show airing Sunday morning, that there will be a series of special shows airing live on USA approximately every month. The first of these will be “New Year’s Resolution” and will air live from the Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. On that show will be the rematch from Starrcade where the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair will defend his title against Harley Race.

With that, McLane introduces Flair, who makes his first ever appearance in the WWA studios. Flair cuts a promo praising Race as clips of their match at Starrcade air, ending by saying he will be watching tonight’s main event between Race and Nick Bockwinkel very closely.

Bobby Heenan is in the ring and introduces his newest tag team: “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey and “Ravishing” Randy Rose, The Midnight Express!

1. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: Common Ground (Eddie Gilbert & Tony Garea) defeated The Midnight Express (w/Bobby Heenan) in 8:29. The Express kept the young Gilbert at bay, working on his neck that was injured last year in a car accident. After some miscommunication, Gilbert finally made the tag to Garea, who came in on fire until he got caught by Rose’s knee. Moments later, Condrey went for a suplex, but Gilbert tagged himself in and took Condrey down with a surprise sunset flip for the pin. Heenan was livid at ringside, having not seen the tag.

McLane interviews Bobo Brazil and Brickhouse Brown at ringside. As highlights of their altercation last month air, Brazil apologizes to Brown for the mistake that caused him to be eliminated. Brown also apologizes to Brazil, saying he was keyed up from the adrenaline and wasn’t thinking clearly. The two shake hands, and Brown leaves while McLane asks Brazil about his recent opportunity at the Missouri Heavyweight Title. Brown attacks with a wooden chair out of nowhere, shattering it over Brazil’s head. Brazil drops to a knee as Brown screams “I’m tired of you holding me back! STOP HOLDING ME BACK!” as officials and other wrestlers help lead him to the back.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

2. One fall with a 30-minute time limit: NWA World Women’s Champion The Fabulous Moolah pinned Velvet McIntyre with a roll up and a handful of tights at 10:05.

McLane interviews Missouri Champion Nick Bockwinkel and Heenan, who complain about Race being granted the shot at Ric Flair on January 21. McLane reminds Bockwinkel that Race as former champion is guaranteed a rematch within 30 days, and Bockwinkel counters that he should get a shot within 29 days if that’s the case. Tonight, he vows to defeated Race and put an end to the controversy for good!

---------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane interviews Gary Hart, who announces that during the downtime he has signed several new wrestlers to contracts. In addition to Central States Tag Team Champions The Zambuie Express, Hart has now signed Midwest Television Champion Larry Zbyszko to a contract, as well as his newest team, Black Gordman and Goliath. As Gordman and Goliath make their appearance, Hart explains that the reason they had rough luck the past few months was poor management. “With me guiding these two men, there is no limit as to how far they can go in this business.”

A brief ad for New Year’s Wrestlelution airs.

McLane interviews Jimmy Snuka. Snuka says it was unfortunate that he and Mike Rotundo lost the Central States Tag Team Title, but he is confident that he will start 1984 off much better than he did in 1983. Just then, Don Muraco makes a surprise appearance in the studio. Muraco demands a meeting with Commissioner Skaaland, but Snuka says it’s his time. Muraco: “I’m not talking to you, coconut breath!” As they argue, Muraco spits in Snuka’s face, and the brawl is on. They are separated a couple of times until Muraco removes his belt and breaks free long enough to bust Snuka open with his belt buckle and whip him a few times. Several wrestlers finally take Muraco to the locker room, and the last image before break is a bloody Snuka tossing several wrestlers aside as he tries to follow Muraco to the locker room.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

3. One fall with TV time remaining for the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title: Nick Bockwinkel© (w/Bobby Heenan) pinned Harley Race in 9:35. The match is fast paced and even most of the way. Late in the match, Race takes Bockwinkel down with a belly-to-belly suplex, but the referee is distracted by Heenan when Race goes for the cover. Race comes over and levels Heenan with a right hand that drops him to the apron. As the referee checks on Heenan, J.J. Dillon runs out and distracts Race on the other side. With Race distracted, Dory Funk Jr. runs into the ring and punches Race, knocking him cold as some shiny round objects land on the canvas. Funk places Bockwinkel on top of Race, and the referee finally turns around to count to 3. McLane: “Funk just hit Race with…I think it was a roll of quarters, but why? Unfortunately, we’ll have to try to sort it out next week as we are out of time for this week!”

A very interesting end to the Race and Bock match. To see Harley Race go full fledged face (possibly) after losing the title to Flair would be the shot he needs to be "relevant" again. He could lead a promotion, especially against the likes of Bock and Dory. You have got some real NWA classics going here and to go along with it, some great up and comers. WWA is going to be a force in 1984.

Great main event. Love to see the names Race, Bockwinkle and Funk all in the same match.

Wow. The Midnight Express lose their first match! Makes the tag team division one that is up in the air.

Your roster is top notch and a lot of fun to try and guess who will be on top.

Love the idea of a Top 10 and the records being a major factor.

Great to have WWA back in action.

January 14, 1984 – WWA Superstar Challenge (airing as Wrestling at the Chase in St. Louis) from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN

The show opens with highlights of the end of last week’s show with Dory Funk Jr. costing Harley Race the Missouri Title. Cut to David McLane, who says that along with the different matches scheduled for today’s show, he is going to get to the bottom of Funk’s actions last week. He doesn’t have to wait long, and Funk and manager James J. Dillon make their way to the interview area. Dillon says that what happened last week was a matter of business. “Harley Race hurt my dear friend, Bobby Heenan, and we as businessmen simply can’t allow that to go on.” Dillon reveals that Funk and Bockwinkel have an agreement for a future Missouri Title match, and McLane calls Dillon out on making a deal for a title shot. “We can neither confirm nor deny that, Mr. McLane.”

1. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Dory Funk Jr. (w/James J. Dillon) pinned Jim Powers with a piledriver in 2:24.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane announces that Chavo & Mando Guerrero will defend the NWA World Tag Team Title next Saturday on “New Year’s Wrestlelution” against Jerry Valiant & Sheik Abdullah. Bobby Colt comes out with Valiant and Abdullah, saying it’s about time Dangerous by Design gets some respect and gets a shot at the titles they deserve. McLane then mentions Colt’s match next Saturday against Hector Guerrero. Colt claims Guerrero is only getting the match to try to keep Colt from being at ringside during the title match and that it will backfire on him.

2. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Jimmy Snuka pinned Zoltan the Great with the Superfly Splash in 1:43.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane says he tried to get an interview with Jimmy Snuka during the break but Snuka is refusing, stating he will not speak on camera until he gets his hands on The Magnificent Muraco for last week’s attack. McLane does make the official announcement of Snuka vs. Muraco for the Kiel Auditorium show next Saturday night.

3. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques & Raymond) defeated Black Gordman & Goliath (w/Gary Hart) in 9:12 when Raymond pinned Goliath with Le Bombe de Rougeau. McLane points out that despite the loss, Gordman and Goliath looked as cohesive as they had in months and credits Gary Hart’s tutelage.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

4. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Chris Adams pinned Les Thornton with a Superkick in 5:03.

Adams makes his way to the interview area. He tells McLane how proud he is to be in the United States, how happy he is to be in the WWA, and that his initial goal is to face Nick Bockwinkel for the Missouri Title. “I know I have to keep winning matches to get that title shot, but next to the World Title, that belt is the top prize and I intend on winning it.”

----------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane interviews Bobby Heenan. “You know, I hear this British wimp come out here, and after one win he thinks he can just come right out here and challenge Nick Bockwinkel for the Missouri Title. Now, Nick Bockwinkel is not here as he is defending his title in Minneapolis tonight, but I can assure you that he will not take a challenge like this lying down. Do yourself a favor, Chris Adams. Stick with wrestling the Billy Andersons and the Jerry Greys of the world and keep your nose out of our business.”

McLane runs down the New Year’s Wrestlelution card, airing on USA next Saturday night live from St. Louis.

JUST ADDED: The world famous midget wrestlers in tag team action
Bobby Colt vs. Hector Guerrero
The Magnificent Muraco vs. Jimmy Snuka
NWA World Tag Team Title: Jerry Valiant & Sheik Abdullah vs. Chavo & Mando Guerrero©
NWA World Heavyweight Title: Harley Race vs. Ric Flair©

As soon as the card is announced, Funk and Dillon return to the interview area. Dillon says he heard Chris Adams earlier tonight saying he wanted the Missouri Title and reminds us that Funk has already been promised a future shot. However, if Adams wants to prove he belongs in the WWA, Funk will be happy to take on Adams next Saturday in St. Louis and give him that opportunity.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

5. One fall with TV time remaining for the NWA Midwest Television Title: Larry Zbyszko© went to a time limit draw against Mike Rotundo in 9:38. McLane signs off immediately following the ringing of the bell.

January 21, 1984 – WWA Superstar Challenge (airing as Wrestling at the Chase in St. Louis) from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN

David McLane welcomes us to the show and hypes the huge NWA World Heavyweight Title match with Ric Flair vs. Harley Race that will be taking place in St. Louis later this evening. Later today, we will hear from both champion and challenger.

1. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Leilani Kai pinned Susan Starr with a rolling cradle and a handful of tights at 3:11.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane interviews Brickhouse Brown. Brown is now officially scheduled to face Bobo Brazil at New Year’s Wrestlelution tonight. He says he looked up to Bobo, but it became apparent quickly that the legend from Michigan was just attempting to hold Brickhouse back. Tonight there will be no holding back as Brickhouse will prove the student has surpassed the teacher.

2. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Brickhouse Brown pinned Jerry Grey with a swinging neckbreaker in 1:27.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

3. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Dory Funk Jr. (w/James J. Dillon) and Jimmy Snuka battled to a time limit draw.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

David McLane runs down the official lineup for New Year’s Wrestlelution tonight, with several matches added during the week.

Les Thornton vs. Eddie Gilbert
Zoltan the Great vs. Jay Youngblood
Dory Funk Jr. vs. Chris Adams
Brickhouse Brown vs. Bobo Brazil
The world famous midget wrestlers in tag team action
Bobby Colt vs. Hector Guerrero
The Magnificent Muraco vs. Jimmy Snuka
NWA World Tag Team Title: Jerry Valiant & Sheik Abdullah vs. Chavo & Mando Guerrero©
NWA World Heavyweight Title: Harley Race vs. Ric Flair©

During this segment, prerecorded promos from Funk, Adams, Brazil, and Snuka air.

Immediately following, McLane shows an interview he conducted earlier the week with The Magnificent Muraco. As highlights of Muraco’s attack on Snuka two weeks earlier air, Muraco says the beating Snuka got is just the beginning and that in St. Louis, he will take out Snuka and send him back to the islands permanently.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

4. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Dennis Condrey (w/Randy Rose and Bobby Heenan) pinned Tony Garea (w/Eddie Gilbert) in 5:27 when Rose interfered as the referee was distracted by a confrontation between Gilbert and Heenan.

Harley Race joins David McLane at the interview area. Race says there is a reason that he has held more world titles than anybody in the history of the NWA, and that’s because he can bounce back from adversity like nobody else. Tonight, despite his recent battles with Nick Bockwinkel and Dory Funk Jr., his focus is on Flair and Flair alone.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

5. One fall with TV time remaining for the NWA Midwest Television Championship: Larry Zbyszko© pinned Billy Anderson with a piledriver in 7:55. McLane puts over the effort put in by Anderson as Anderson was a huge underdog in this match.

The show ends with McLane interviewing NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair. Flair puts over Race’s toughness and ability, but “I did not spend six months chasing after Race to lose it in my first defense against him. Race, to be the best…to be the MAN…you have to beat the man. When I beat you at Starrcade, I became the man, and I don’t plan on that changing anytime soon. WOOO!”

January 21, 1984 – WWA’s “New Year’s Wrestlelution” airing live on the USA Network from the Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis, MO

David McLane is shown at ringside and runs down the card. “For the next three hours, you will be watching the greatest superstars in the WWA and the National Wrestling Alliance! Two championships on the line and nearly every match affecting those top ten rankings that will be debuting in the next few weeks. Get ready, because this is going to be one for the ages!

----------COMMERCIAL----------

Prior to the introdcutions, McLane announces that because this is a special event and not the normal weekly TV show, time limits for all matches are being extended.

1. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Les Thornton pinned Eddie Gilbert in 9:21 after reversing a small package into one of his own.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

2. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Jay Youngblood pinned Zoltan the Great with a Tomahawk chop in 9:16.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

3. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Brickhouse Brown pinned Bobo Brazil in 11:55. Brazil was in control late but missed a charge in the corner. Brickhouse hooked both legs and put his feet on the ropes for leverage.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

4. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Hector Guerrero pinned Bobby Colt with a flying bodypress in 6:44. As Guerrero was celebrating the win after the match, Colt grabbed a chair and repeatedly hit Hector in the knee with it until Chavo & Mando Guerrero hit the ring to make the save.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

5. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Dory Funk Jr. (w/James J. Dillon) battled Chris Adams to a double countout in 10:44, as Adams attempted to slide into the ring and couldn’t beat the count. After the match, Adams went into the ring and asked Funk for five more minutes, but Funk shook his head and walked to the back.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

As intermission takes place in the arena, McLane interviews NWA World Tag Team Champions Chavo & Mando Guerrero backstage. The champions are clearly angry and say they will take their aggression out on Bobby Colt’s fellow Dangerous by Design members.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane interviews Jimmy Snuka in the locker room. Snuka’s face is still taped from the beating two weeks ago at the hands of Magnificent Muraco. “The external bleeding has stopped, brother. This bandage reminds me that the internal bleeding will not stop. This bandage reminds me of what Muraco did and what I have to do, brother.”

----------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane interviews Harley Race in the locker room. As Race discusses his upcoming match with Ric Flair, he is attacked from behind by Dory Funk Jr., who rubs Race’s face across the hard tile floor as James J. Dillon screams “Take him out!” Chris Adams, Eddie Gilbert and Jay Youngblood eventually run Funk off as doctors run in to check on Race.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

McLane says that Race was busted open following the attack by Dory Funk Jr. during the intermission. Doctors have recommended Race not compete, but Race is insisting on facing Flair tonight and the doctors are trying their best to stop the bleeding before the match tonight.

6. Two out of Three Falls with a 30-minute time limit: Little Coco and The Haiti Kid defeated Little Tokyo and Butch Cassidy in two straight falls in 18:11. Coco pinned Cassidy with a leg roll up at 12:02 to win the first fall. ----------COMMERCIAL----------

7. One fall with a 20-minute time limit: Jimmy Snuka pinned The Magnificent Muraco in 6:44 following a headbutt and a Superfly Leap off the top rope.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

8. Two out of Three Falls with a one hour time limit for the NWA World Tag Team Championship: Chavo & Mando Guerrero© defeated Jerry Valiant & Sheik Abdullah (w/Bobby Colt) in two straight falls in 11:34. The first fall ended by disqualification at 7:13 when Valiant and Abdullah choked Mando in the corner and refused to break before the five count. Following a commercial, Chavo pinned Valiant in 4:21 when Colt attempted to hit Chavo with a chair but missed and hit Valiant instead. Mando dropkicked Colt off the apron for good measure.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

9. One fall with a one hour time limit for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Ric Flair© defeated Harley Race in 17:55 to retain the title. Prior to the match, Flair offered to allow Race to postpone the match but Race refused. Race had control until about the eight minute mark when he missed a dive in the corner and hit the ringpost, reopening the cut on his forehead. Flair relentlessly worked over the cut on Race’s head. Race finally began to make a comeback but missed a diving headbutt. As Race tried to regain his footing, he took a few wild swings at Flair and collapsed to the mat, forcing referee Connie Marker to stop the mat due to cuts. The crowd heavily booed the decision.

----------COMMERCIAL----------

Backstage, David McLane interviews Ric Flair about the previous match. Flair says he hates that many will feel the win is tainted, but sometimes you have to take the breaks where you can get them. “But Harley Race, if the time comes to where you are given another shot at this title, I hope you come in at 100%, because the result will remain the same. I am now and forever your World Heavyweight Champion. WOOO!”

McLane announces the next USA Network Special will be Tough Love and take place from the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, IN on February 18, and then he signs us off.

January 28, 1984 - WWA Superstar Challenge (airing as Wrestling at the Chase in the St. Louis market) from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN

David McLane is in studio, and he runs down the results of the New Year’s Wrestlelution show for those who missed it. After showing highlights of the Ric Flair-Harley Race match, McLane introduces Race to the audience. Race, still bandaged up from the cut on his forehead, says there are no excuses as he lost the match and it’s that simple. He does, however, give a word of warning to Dory Funk Jr. that one way or another he will get his revenge for the locker room attack.

1. Non-title match scheduled for one fall with a 10-minute time limit: Chris Adams pinned Nick Bockwinkel (NWA Missouri Heavyweight Champion w/Bobby Heenan) with a superkick in 6:15. After the match, McLane speculates this makes Adams the number one contender to the title.

----------

2. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Bobby Colt defeated Jim Powers by countout in 1:47 after piledriving Powers on the arena floor.

As Powers is being tended to on the concrete floor, Colt is interviewed by McLane. Colt says that he is disbanding Dangerous by Design as clearly he is the only one remotely worthy of being in a position to be at the top of the card. Colt says he will stop at nothing to be the top man in the NWA and doesn’t care who he has to through to earn the spot.

----------
COMMERCIAL

3. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: Jay & Mark Youngblood defeated Jerry Valiant & Sheik Abdullah in 4:01 when Jay pinned Valiant with a flying Tomahawk chop.

After the match, McLane interviews the Youngbloods at ringside. They understand the Zambuie Express will be defending the Central States Tag Team Title in the main event tonight, and they are watching very closely as they would like to face the winners of that match in the near future. McLane mentions that it takes more than one win to get into contention, and the Youngbloods say they will face all challengers in order to get into that position.

----------
COMMERCIAL
----------

McLane welcomes Dory Funk Jr. and James J. Dillon to the interview area. Dillon, as usual, does most of the talking, saying that their actions against Harley Race last week were strictly business and not personal. And just to prove that they are fair people, they are issuing a challenge to a tag team match for the Tough Love show coming up on February 18. “We’ve already talked to Nick Bockwinkel and Bobby Heenan, and they agree we should take care of a few issues, so if that British gentleman, as he calls himself, Chris Adams decides to join you, then we’d love to take you guys out of contention permanently.”

----------
COMMERCIAL
----------

McLane announces that Adams and Race officially accepted the challenge for the Tough Love event on February 18 provided the match is two out of three falls, so it appears that match is official.

4. One fall with TV time remaining for the NWA Central States Tag Team Title: The Zambuie Express (w/Gary Hart) defeated Common Ground in 15:57 when, as Hart distracted referee Connie Marker, The Midnight Express pulled Tony Garea off of the ring apron, which allowed the Zambuie Express to hit a double splash on Eddie Gilbert and gain the pin.

After the match, Bobby Heenan brought his Midnight Express to the interview area and said a few weeks ago, these punks got lucky and beat his men, and he will not allow anybody to use his team as a stepping stone to championship gold. Heenan issues a challenge to a best of three match series, two singles matches to take place at Tough Love, “and if by some fluke one of you can luck into beating one of my men, a tag team match at a later date. But there’s no need for the later date because you’re not beating my men.” And with that, McLane signs us off.

I LOVED seeing Chris Adams with the upset over Bock. It may go completely unnoticed in the scheme but that's a huge win. I have said it before, you've got the three best managers perhaps in the history of wrestling, each with some premiere power. WWA continues to be a premiere territory in the world of wrestling we've created.

Loves seeing the Youngbloods back together. Good luck with them.

Also loved seeing Adams over Bockwinkle. That is one to watch. I enjoyed it being the first match as I could imagine that if I watched this live, I would have talked about it for the entire show.

People forget how good Garea was in tag team action. You have a few really good teams and that makes your tag division a lot of fun to both read and write.

With these ratings coming out, and with number one contender already being scheduled to compete at the Tough Love special on February 18, McLane announces that NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair will defend the title at the Market Square Arena that night against the number two contender Jimmy Snuka. Larry Zbyszko interrupts, saying that he doesn’t know who came up with these ratings, but as Midwest TV Champion he has won more matches than anybody in the WWA and should be first in line for the shot. McLane tells Zbyszko he is already otherwise engaged that evening as he will be defending the TV Title against Bobo Brazil. “Fine, if that’s what it takes to prove I deserve a shot at the World Title, then so be it.”

McLane announces the final match is about to hit the ring, but first he announces that The O Zone of Steve O and Jerry Oske have accepted the open challenge of Black Gordman and Goliath for next week.

5. One fall with TV time remaining for the NWA Midwest Television Title: NWA World Tag Team Champion Chavo Guerrero and NWA Midwest Television Champion Larry Zbyszko went to a time limit draw in 11:38; Guerrero connected with the moonsault as the bell rang. As soon as the ring announcer announced the decision, the show went off the air.

February 11, 1984 – WWA Superstar Challenge (airing as Wrestling at the Chase in St. Louis) from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN

David McLane welcomes us to the show and pushes not only the open challenge announced last week between Black Gordman & Goliath vs. The O Zone, but also a match between Brickhousr Brown and Hector Guerrero to take place later tonight.

The show begins with Bobby Heenan bringing out The Midnight Express where they discuss their three match series that begins next Saturday night at Tough Love in Indianapolis. Heenan calls it the easiest matches that Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose have ever had in their careers. “Garea’s OK, but that Gilbert kid is so over his head that being six feet under would be a step up for him.

1. One fall with a 15-minute time limit: Common Ground defeated NWA Central States Tag Team Champions The Zambuie Express (w/Gary Hart) by disqualification in 1:31 when The Midnight Express interfered. A 4 on 1 beatdown continued until The Youngbloods made the save.

4. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: In what has to be considered an upset, Brickhouse Brown pinned Hector Guerrero with a flying bodypress.

After the match, Brickhouse comes to the interview area bragging about how he has proven he doesn’t need Bobo Brazil to be a superstar. This brings out Brazil who ends up goading Brown into accepting a match against him later in the show. McLane says we’ll have that match if there’s time.

McLane interviews Mike Rotundo who says he doesn’t back down from a challenge and is perfectly fine with taking on Gordman and Goliath at Tough Love, but he wishes Spivey would have at least consulted with him before automatically accepting the challenge.

5. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Jimmy Snuka pinned Jerry Valiant with the Superfly Leap in 1:13. McLane comments about how Snuka is possibly on the best roll of his career leading into the match of a lifetime against Ric Flair next weekend.

As the final match enters the ring, McLane announces that next week’s main event will be a six man tag team match to preview the Tough Love show: Chris Adams, Harley Race and Jimmy Snuka vs. Nick Bockwinkel, Dory Funk Jr. and NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair.

After the match, Bockwinkel joins McLane at the interview area. Bockwinkel says it is going to be an honor to team with Dory Funk Jr. next week and help put Chris Adams in his place. “His win against me recently was an anomaly that only happens once in a great while. Next week, we prove that to be the case. Mark my words, Chris Adams will never get close to this championship.

With that, McLane signs us off.

(NOTE: Due to issues beyond my control, I didn't have time for a full show so we're going with the TL;DR version)

Due to a snowstorm in the Indianapolis area, the WWA TV show was not broadcast as the crew could not get to the studio. The live “Tough Love” event did take place but could not air due to the snow preventing the signal from reaching the satellite. Expect footage to air in future weeks on WWA TV, but we did receive a live report.

1. Billy Anderson pinned Zoltan the Great in 9:46.

2. NWA Midwest Television Champion Larry Zbyszko pinned Bobo Brazil in 7:31.

3. Tony Garea defeated Randy Rose by disqualification in 7:28.

4. Andre the Giant pinned The Magnificent Muraco in 8:21.

5. The Youngbloods defeated NWA Central States Tag Team Champions The Zambuie Express two falls to one in 16:25. The third fall ended in a disqualification so the Zambuie Express retained the titles.

6. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair battled Jimmy Snuka to a double disqualification in 18:39.

7. Eddie Gilbert upset Dennis Condrey in 2:09.

8. Black Gordman & Goliath defeated Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo in 4:18 when Goliath pinned Rotundo after Spivey took his own partner down with a bulldog.

9. Dory Funk Jr. & Nick Bockwinkel battled Chris Adams & Harley Race to a 30-minute time limit draw; Adams appeared to have Bockwinkel pinned following a superkick as time expired.

February 25, 1984 - WWA Superstar Challenge live from the WTTV Studios in Indianapolis, IN

The show opens with David McLane apologizing for last week’s technical difficulties preventing the show from going on the USA Network as scheduled, but the next two weeks will be dedicated to not only showing the key matches from that event, but also in building to the next scheduled event for the USA Network scheduled for March 17 entitled “Shamrocks and Shenanigans”, which will take place from the International Ampitheatre in Chicago, IL.

McLane brings in Dan Spivey to go over the match from last week where Black Gordman and Goliath defeated Spivey and Mike Rotundo. As most of the match airs, Spivey admits that he came into the WWA for the sole purpose of taking Rotundo out, and befriending him was just part of the plan. Spivey says he didn’t act alone, and as soon as the finish is shown, Spivey introduces “My mentor, Matt Borne.” Borne then comes into the interview area, laughing maniacally at how easy things were. When McLane asks Borne why he would target Rotundo, he responds, “For the last year and a half, no matter where I go, all I hear about is this hotshot kid from Syracuse who is supposed to be the next coming of Jack Brisco or Lou Thesz. Well, a lot of people don’t know this, but he came through my home of Portland a few months ago, and as soon as he heard I was coming, he tucked his tail and ran. So I hired Danny here to let him know that he doesn’t decide when to leave a territory. I decide when he leaves a territory. And I decided it’s time for him to leave. And guess what? He isn’t here anymore, is he? And he’s never coming back, McLane!”

1. One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Jimmy Snuka pinned Brickhouse Brown with a Superfly Splash in 8:45.

After the match, McLane interviews Snuka regarding his double disqualification against NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair last week as highlights of the match are shown. The rematch is official for March 17, and Snuka says Flair was lucky to get away with the title last time. This time, “the belt’s coming to the islands with me, brudda!”

McLane announces that by winning both matches in the best of three series against The Midnight Express last week, the team of Common Ground will be taking on The Zambuie Express for the NWA Central States Tag Team Title in tonight’s main event. Bobby Heenan comes out in protest, saying that if not for a referee that Tony Garea and Eddie Gilbert had in their back pocket, Randy Rose would have beaten Garea and the best they would be is tied right now. Heenan issues the challenge for Shamrocks and Shenanigans for a tag team rematch. “And I hope you guys win those belts tonight, because if you do, we’ll be the ones to take them from you.”

McLane announces that next week’s main event will be the match from last week between Nick Bockwinkel and Dory Funk Jr. vs. Harley Race and Chris Adams in its entirety.

3. One fall with a 30-minute time limit for the NWA Central States Tag Team Title: Common Ground defeated The Zambuie Express (w/Gary Hart) to win the titles in 12:50. Garea was caught in a bearhug by Kareem Muhammad, but with the referee distracted by Elijah Akeem, Gilbert came off the top rope with a flying dropkick into Garea’s back that dropped both men, Garea landing on top of Akeem for the three count.

After the match, a livid Gary Hart went to the interview area screaming at McLane about the finish. McLane says it serves them right for the underhanded tactics his men have been using, and Hart yells at McLane claiming he has no right to speak to him or his men like that.

With the show getting ready to end, McLane seems flabbergasted as to how much has happened already tonight. With that, Bobby Heenan comes back out to the interview area with a big smile on his face. Heenan says he feels bad for Gary Hart that his men got jobbed like they did, but he has yet to hear an answer from Common Ground due to his earlier challenge. “So let me sweeten the pot just a little bit. Garea. Gilbert. You give me what I want. I want my men to get a shot at those Central States Tag Team Championships. And I’ll go so far as to put my career in the WWA on the line.” McLane: “You’re WHAT?” At this, Nick Bockwinkel comes to the interview area and pulls Heenan aside, and he starts asking Heenan “What are you thinking” as the show fades to black.
