CHV Bloopers, Bleeps and Bodyslams

The Watcher once again turns his attention to the boys from World Cast, this time observing an alternate reality where instead of WCCW they chose to look at Coliseum Home Video on the WWE Network. (Also, in this reality Pete said f**k you, I'll pass)

So join Kelly and Johnny as they dive into the very first CHV release, Bloopers, Bleeps and Bodyslams. Among the highlights we have...

-An epic posedown between Paul Orndorff and Tony Atlas taking a hilarious turn
-A jobber who couldn't afford the top of the line toupee glue
-Chunger undone by the wrong bricks
-A cornucopia of clips from TNT
-A chair made of SOLID OAK
-And finally, the out of control reception for the wedding of the century!!!

The first three Coliseum Videos were this, Best of the WWF 1 and Hulkamania all released the same day. One thing about the WWF, the PPV tapes came out FAST, usually within six weeks of the show. How they did that I have no idea but they had the box art and thousands of copies ready to go that fast.

Sheik-Backlund was on WWF Greatest Matches which had the nerve to have the Dream Team vs. The Hillbillies on it.

Episode 25

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-25-the-star-wars-of-wrestling-august-15-1982

August 15, 1982 (WCCW 35 and 36)

Join Pete, Kelly and Johnny for a double-sized episode looking at The Star Wars of Wrestling from Reunion Arena on August 15, 1982!

Three big matches are examined:

King Kong Bundy vs Harley Race
Kevin/David Von Erich vs Great Kabuki/Magic Dragon
Kerry Von Erich vs Ric Flair, 2 of 3 falls NWA title match

Among the topics discussed on the show:

-Andre the Giant's bodyslam history
-Whatever happened to Jay Saldi?
-Bad WWE Network music dub jobs galore
-A thorough discussion of the ultra-controversial (and ultra-awesome) Kerry vs Flair title match

The rag tag WCCW crew is beginning to make the slow climb up the standings and the boys are here beak it all down on the latest episode of World Cast!

I only just got a chance to listen to this now, but this episode is hilarious! I guess I didn't realize how much I miss the titans. I am hoping you guys will do another alternate reality special in March when this All Star Wrestling footage goes up hopefully with Pete as there is bound to be more actual wrestling and less silly skits.

Episode 26

September 4, 1982 ((WCCW 37)

JAY SALDI LIVES!!! (And Johnny Sorrow is pissed off)

Last week we pretty much said goodbye to everyone's favorite back-up Tight End, but he's back, and he's got a lot to say about wrestlers from other territories and internationally! Meet Jumbo "Tsnuka", Bob "Blacklund", and "Rodney" Piper, some of the biggest stars in the world!

Also on the show...

-Bugsy "Mr. USA" (???) McGraw and a returning David Von Erich

-Good Ol' Al bringing his usual ** game (or at least Kelly thinks so)

-Perhaps the worst wrestling music video ever: "The Many Faces of the Great Kabuki"

-A hopelessly mundane main event between King Kong Bundy/Bill Irwin and Brian Adidas/Sal Alavarez

World Cast: Our hosts have been reviewing several decades old mediocre wrestling since 2013!

*Be sure to keep the pod playing after the closing theme for a little bonus*

September 11, 1982 (WCCW 38)

CAN THE FREEBIRDS JUST GET HERE AND HEAT THIS TOWN THE F*CK UP, PLEASE?!?!?

The boys are getting a little weary of the same old, same old. I mean, Brian Adidas vs Roberto Renesto sucks hard. The Superfly is one of the least menacing heels ever. Kabuki is getting stale. Bundy is too, kinda. Jay Saldi. Dear God, Jay Saldi. On the plus side, there is plenty of talk about the hottest wrestling star on the planet, Hulk Hogan, and his brother, Dizzy, is coming to the territory...maybe. The main event is Bundy vs David, and it's alright. We just need some hope

World Cast: We can make it!

My Wednesday routine that I like is to watch the WCCW show being covered that week. Most of the time I will read the World Cast show description first, but i didnt this week.

1. I laughed my ass off when I saw Pro Wrestling Illustrated subscriber Jay Saldi at the top.

2. I laughed more when Brian Adidas was announced for the opening match.

All that was missing for the triple play was a David Manning 7 minute promo at ringside....too bad he's suspended.

Episode 28

September 18, 1982 (WCCW 39)

The post-August Star Wars blahs continue for WCCW. The Sportatorium is half-empty, but those that are there are bat shit crazy wrestling fans. Still, not a lot to really be excited about watching from your sofa in 2018. The boys find humor in it all (mostly from Jay Saldi's commentary), plus the main event is...well...not a great match, but it's a fascinating one, that's for sure.

World Cast: Hosted as always by controversial wrestling journalist Pete Schirmacher!

Episode 29

September 25, 1982 (WCCW 40)

To celebrate Kerry squashing Kabuki in 43 seconds, the boys clock in at a lean 28 minutes. Still, in addition to that amazing event, there is a lot to discuss, such as...

-Kevin and Bill Irwin, possibly for the 3rd or 4th time since the start of this podcast, having a pretty good match
-More Jay Saldi ridiculousness
-Where have all the jobbers gone?
-Bugsy vs Bundy in a major hoss main event...that only lasts a couple minutes

Episode 30

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-30

October 2, 1982 (WCCW 41)

As the leaves begin to change color and fall off the trees in 1982, the boys find plenty from this episode to discuss, including several new faces in town...

-THE Checkmate: Masked and mysterious and possessing a, shall we say, unique offense
-The Samoan: A Samoan wrestler from Samoa
-John Renesto: By-the-book NWA referee from LA, possibly corrupt

In addition, we have a pretty kick ass 6-man tag featuring all the Von Erich boys together, Bugsy in shorts meant for a 10 year old boy, Al Madril easing into the "Dom" role, and Gary Hart taking a shot of wayward Kabuki mist in the eyes

World Cast: Remember to show your gratitude for all the hours of podcast goodness by purchasing Pete a beer in New Orleans during Mania weekend!

Episode 31

October 9, 1982 (WCCW 42)

With Michael Hayes' arrival imminent, World Class bottoms out with a turd of a show. Don't get me wrong, the vignette chronicling Bill Mercer's complex relationship with Gary Hart/Mercer interviewing Hart and THE Checkmate at H & H Enterprises HQ is fascinating, must-watch stuff. It's just that the actual wrestling is turgid, featuring...

-Brian Adidas working a "clopen" shift
-Bugsy still refusing to wear men's sized shorts
-David Von Erich perfecting the "David finish"

World Cast: Nowhere to go but up!

The Eighth Wonder of the World Cast: Andre the Giant HBO Doc Review

https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/the-eighth-wonder-of-the-world-cast-andre-the-giant-hbo-doc-review

Kelly, Pete and Johnny take a brief break from WCCW to review the Andre the Giant documentary recently broadcast on HBO. The boys discuss the doc in depth, their personal memories of Andre, and include additional historical information not found in the film.

A good time was had by all so please enjoy this look at one of wrestling's greatest legends!
