If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to stream some matches on Twitch if you want to see what the game has to offer.

I've made over 70 caw's myself, most of which are set for a more modern style (though they are personal creations, not actual wrestlers) and I can download virtually anyone if there are requests.

Not a single Buckhouse Buck in the entire Steam Marketplace. This is some BULLLLLLLLLLshit.

I've now downloaded over 200 wrestlers though, which is crazy. The simming of matches is pretty legit. I had two 100% evaluated matches last night during a cage match tournament: Sting Vs. Regal & Dusty Rhodes Vs. Greg Valentine.

I've also gotten custom themes to work finally.

There is a Jimmy Golden that has Bunkhouse Buck as it's 4th attire, but it isn't very good.

If you are looking for edits, may I make the following suggestions....

Captain Howdy has probably the best looking classic edits you will find covering the Mid 80's - the Mid 90's (I assume he will get around to Bunkhouse Buck eventually. He made Yoshi Kwan for fuck's sake!!)

The Avenger3 has a nice mix of modern indy dudes, current WWE and TNA guys, and some other shit tossed in for fun.

Senator's Workshop has a link to both his wrestling edits which encompass a ton of era's and his MMA and Boxing edits which are quite frankly amazing, especially if you are a boxing fan, cause this guy has done a TON of research.

and lastly, DJKM77 and his metric shit ton of edits. These are not the highest quality in the looks division, but they sim well and he has everyone from Stanislaus Zbyszko to Barry Horowitz

That cage match tournament sounds great! Two 100% simmed matches is really awesome.

I think having FPW on Steam and PS4 with internet connection as opposed to FPR and having to import Create -A-Wrestler files is going to be a big plus for me. I always saw these great edits available but, wasn't really confident on the process. The fact that they have this sharing feature built into the game is great. I was happy with my self made puro edits and ROH guys but, my US Territory guys all kinda looked off except maybe Steamboat :P

Very excited to have authentic rings/canvases too. If you've ever tried to make one yourself, then you know how difficult and frustrating it can be.

It really isn't super graphics intensive or a resources hog, as long as you aren't trying to stream it or anything. My old laptop ran it just fine and it was a piece of shit.

Two things people should keep in mind though...

1) Installing the mods (while they are awesome) can and does cause crashes, which can erase your save file.

2) Having above 5000 CAW's (I know, it seems insane to me too, but people do it!) can cause the opening screen where it loads all of your content to take several days each time you turn the game on. It doesn't always happen when you have that many edits, but 5k seems to be the magic number when it starts randomly happening to people.

With how many characters do you start the game with?

It's my understanding that the Steam version has no renamed actual wrestlers built in like FPR or previous versions.

I think there are generic characters though.

That's what was appealing about the NJPW partnership to me. I don't have enough time anymore to make/perfect a ton of guys anymore :) So, it'll be nice to have real guys to start with.

The game comes with a roster of 30 generic wrestlers. I believe there will be 30 NJPW wrestlers in the initial release, with more supposedly to come with the Junior DLC.

Then on Steam you can find virtually anyone, and your roster size is only limited by your hard drive (supposedly, though the 5000 limit thing I posted above will likely come before you fill your hard drive!)

Have been doing research: Its looking like 39 NJ members at the start. The Steam update and the PS4 release are to be in tandem.

The additional DLC modes are looking to be an updated Management Of The Ring from Final Fire Pro for GBA, a NJPW Junior Heavyweight story mode scenario + wrestlers plus one more that's a mystery. Speculation is a ROH/CMLL tie in especially since the Young Bucks and other ROH talent will not be on the initial release roster. But, that's wishful thinking. I'd be down with a NJ legends mode or something like that.

Move wise, it looks like a few patches on the Steam version has provided some great old school moves (along with newer ones) that enhance the game mechanics. That is to say, there are standing headlocks that work like a submission and alternate versions of moves that stun an opponent rather than knock them down.

The old school moves I was happy to see are the new headlocks, the airplane spin, a brass knuckle punch, a pulling piledriver like Foley does, Dusty's Bionic elbow, andhair pull takedown. I'm sure there's more :)

The new contemporary moves are pretty up to date and way to many to list but, ones I recall are Deadlift German suplex (like Sekimoto and others do), arm trap German, Code Breaker/Lung Blower type moves, Nakamura or Omega's knee strike and the NJ top 5's finishers/specials look already in the Steam version. There are mods  for moves that are out there that muddy the waters as far as what to expect at release though. It certainly looks like they're going all out to make it a much updated Fire Pro when all is said and done.

So the owner of Fire Pro Arena, which was the premier Fire Pro site forever, apparently was arrested on child pornography related charges. I remember going there back in the day to get translated roms back when Fire Pro was a Japanese only thing. I hope the site was archived, and fuck that guy for being a piece of shit.

Holy shit!

Yeah, I was on there and their older site all of the time for pretty much everything...especially logic mapping FAQs. I know the new policy was to back up stuff since their board(s) would crash every couple years.

It looks like the remainder of the community has severed all ties and are going to rebuild from what I saw on Twitter.

Yeah, what terrible news but, glad that he's been arrested. Just despicable really...

Just to clarify, Fire Pro Club was the old/original site back then. After it went down the last time, Arena was the spinoff version that this guy made to replace it around 2013-14 ish. Looks like the rest of the community will be making a new site based off the original at CriticalClub.com

Ah yes, Fire Pro Club! I forgot the name but, I printed out so many templates and guides from there.

In more uplifting news, someone posted some fancam footage of Omega and Ibushi playing the NJ version of FPW at the CEO Gaming conference thingy. Good footage of the game. Looks like Naito has a T-shirt and ballcap outfit which will be fun.

Nothing earth shattering but, cool to see nonetheless :)

  • 1 month later...

Came out for PS4 today. Did anyone else get it? The "Day One" Edition apparently comes with an NJPW Almanac. I haven't opened mine up yet to take a look though.

Is there an easy way to get this to work on a Mac?

I'd like to know this too, as I'm considering making the switch.
