Even if it's a big name, I don't like the idea of their debut being in a nothing battle royale full of jobbers. That's a bad look period.

I'd be fine with Jungle Boy winning.

This isn’t directed specifically at your statement...you just share a theme.

Isn’t this Casino Battle Royale for the right to an AEW World Title shot?  I think all the battle royales in AEW have been for title shots, no?  Well, the ones for that Diamond Ring weren’t title shots. They weren’t done for nothing though.  I’m always surprised when viewers pigeon-hole matches like that with derogatory terms like “nothing match”, “pointless”, “jobber filled” among others.  If I can turn a phrase on its ass with a “pointed” statement.  This match is in fact quite “pointy” as I assume some of the kids somewhere are possibly saying.

AEW always books their battle royales with purpose and thought.  They don’t reach the levels of the 92 Rumble but these aren’t meaningless exercises or space-and-time filler like so many in the past are usually booked to be. Just like Title shots are probably the second most prized possession in AEW after the title belts themselves.  Jungle Boy winning would be a mighty fine outcome, if I do say so myself.  They should start the Jack Perry portion of young JB’s career eventually...soon.  The other members of JE are pretty far from relevant at this time. Tony K probably wants to do the trios title tournament first, prior to JB leaving the other two behind as his singles push starts to mature into eventual title contender and inevitable title holder in AEW...or wherever else he might migrate to if they just keep him as the true (no, really) workhorse of the promotion....on those Dark shows I hear nobody watches.

The bigger issue for me is when you win a title shot in the undercard battle royal, you don't look like a big deal like compared to what Jon Moxley did in his debut. He just... showed up in the main event & made a statement. Makes him look like a much bigger star. I'm always worried about a new person showing up in the battle royal will look more like Matt Sydal & less like Jon Moxley, if that makes sense.

While I agree with your general point, I don't think a battle royal is the reason why Matt Sydal looked like less of a star than Jon Moxley - the only reason for that is because Matt Sydal IS less of a star than Jon Moxley.

If this was the 2000s it would be the other way around.  Matt Sydal in 2007-2010 was on the fast track to the big leagues.  He even managed to get over in WWE as a cruiserweight.   Moxley was the definition  of what some of us might describe as “toolsy”.  He had intangibles out the wazoo.  In the physical realm he had his height...plus all that abstract charisma and just a boat load of that “potential” that even the French wouldn’t be able to quite explain.

AEW, by smartly running only four PPVs/year, has really continually put more pressure on themselves for no good reasons at all.  It seems like every show has the same ingrown stresses and expectations.  The quarterly PPVs routinely create an extra buzz just because everyone has months between big shows to project their biases towards.  Coach Tony K shouldn’t need to deliver one or sometimes two surprises every single PPV.  He doesn’t just tease and/or promise one or more BIG talent debuts.  He usually freakin’ guarantees important debuts.  When he books a strong show that should be enough.

There’s always room for new talent in AEW.  I can appreciate additions like Matt Sydal, Big Cage, Old Cage and Canadian Page to fill out the 6-8 spots that are often played by the ridiculously inexperienced or veteran enhancement talent.  Whether they have too little or too much exposure the surprises help a young company establish itself.  The young, old and invisible  have no credibility in the eyes of the Daily’s Place seats...and probably living breathing PAYING fans as well.  Fortunately AEW is developing names that should surpass the ceiling set by Tony K’s stop gap additions mentioned earlier.  When these prospects mature there hopefully won’t be as much pressure on Tony K to plug holes with surprises every single big event.

The contracts of Awesome Kong and Shanna expired and weren't renewed.

https://www.mandatory.com/wrestlezone/news/1237681-report-aew-didnt-renew-expired-contracts-of-awesome-kong-and-shanna

Sad news, especially about Kong, who I was hoping would get another big run out of this.

Double whammy with Netflix renewing GLOW, only to turn right back around and cancel it (although that was a while ago). At least she got one major showcase episode where she delivered an Emmy-worthy performance.

Yeah as much as I wanted to see her get one last shot in the big leagues it was clear she had nothing left in the tank. Hopefully her performance in GLOW opens the door to more acting gigs since she was really good on that show.

How does Heroes Eventually Die as the next AEW World Tag Team Champs sound?

No, seriously...Has anyone heard anything about Chris Hero’s eventual future in pro wrestling?  Now that Tommy End is free from the jerk around by WWE’s collective idiots he and Hero are free to give AEW a third or fourth Grade A tag team.

Lana...whose real name is already a good character name, CJ Perry.  She doesn’t seem to compliment Miro’s current gimmick.  Maybe Kip Sabian can return in months with a new girl...

No Brauns allowed!!!
Yes Heidi Lovelace!!!

I don’t know enough about Santana Garrett or Murphy to neither condemn or endorse either for AEW.

Absolutely agree with you about Chris Hero/Tommy End coming in. They would be a great bridge team, as they can work the Bucks style, the FTR style, whatever style the Lucha Bros feel like working. They could seriously gel with everyone.

I would absolutely vouch for Buddy Murphy coming in. He started as a rather dry tag team guy on NXT, but when he totally changed his body, look, and style, he had some absolute bangers with Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali on 205 Live when no one was watching that show. He seems to have a good attitude and work ethic as well.

Miro rules so hard lmao

It's another "WWE castoff" and I never want to see her wrestle again (I'm already dreading the inevitable Cody/Brandi v. Miro/Lana mixed tag) but her and Miro are so great together they really should bring her in eventually.  He really doesn't need her, it's a WWE rehash, and I wouldn't do it right away.........but I'd do it as a surprise eventually

The original Rusev and Lana pairing was probably the best use of her, but Vince just can't leave well enough alone and has to break up every pairing in the company. Which would be fine if there was a plan for both, or even if one ends up the Marty and the other becomes a star, but 9 times out of 10 it's just done to do it and both parties come out of it worse off.  Plus the times he was trying to break them up IRL for Vince reasons.

I would wager them being paired back up outside of WWE would work great, since I would assume they wouldn't be asked to do any more cuck angles.

Lana can be Natasha and Miro can adopt an accent and be Boris.  Just the two of them doing short promos about Kip & Penelope or something.  Miro wishes that he wrestled for Chikara.  He will be bummed when he discovers his dream promotion/job went out of business a couple of years ago.

Sign Solo Darling to Impact, pair her with Moose, and THERE is the perfect cross-promotion feud.

Miro has moved on from Ivan Drago with his wife to now being Chong Li from Bloodsport. He doesn't need Brigette Nielson anymore, he needs a Ray Jackson to break so that Frank Dux can get his revenge!

Miro as he is right now is perfect. Monster heel with charisma who can talk. I think the only way I'd bring CJ in is to humanize Miro for a face turn. She wouldn't be a wrestler, just as a valet who occasionally gets physically involved if there's a female with Miro's opponent.

Lana sucks. Obviously her in ring stuff is bad, but her promos are also very bad. She was PASSABLE in her role as an 80s throw back gimmick bullshit. Atrocious once that got dropped. Her real life personality is entirely lacking in charisma and is some how more vapid seeming than her on screen character that has no characterization at all. She can only be a hinderance to him in AEW.

I don’t see her fitting with Miro in AEW either.  WWE could have kept training her and theoretically improve her the more she works.  AEW has the Nightmare Factory unofficially but I don’t think it is as overstuffed as TPC.  AEW doesn’t run enough events to help the completely clueless projects get better quicker.
