Texas Red is a man possessed as he chokes away on both Slater and Borne! Red puts Slater out of his misery with the Heart Punch.

LOL Eddie Hogan was just to fired up tonight and gets him and the Hulkster DQed. We'll see if Hulk can calm him down.

Piper retains against Wiskowski in a hard fought match. Big story afterwards as Terry Gordy wants a shot at Piper. This is huge! Piper might need some back up.

Tom Zenk vs. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers

Since his return to action, Zenk has been gunning hard for a shot at his former partner Terry Taylor's TV title. Former champion Flowers, on the other hand, has been on a downward spiral since he was ousted by Jake Roberts. Flowers was certainly looking to halt his decline in this match and really took it to Zenk, battering him in the corners and sneaking in a lot of cheap shots. He seemed to be making some progress when he whipped Zenk into the ropes and came back with a clothesline, but Zenk ducked him and returned fire with a lightning quick Superkick that got the one two three. Looks like Flowers just can't catch a break, no matter what.

Terry Taylor &  Jake Roberts vs. The Hart Brothers

Speaking of Terry Taylor, it looks like Jake "The Snake" Roberts has taken him under his villainous wing (scales?) The result was the full spectrum of unsettling smiles, with Taylor's blank eyed smarminess contrasting with Roberts creepy leering. The Hart Brothers showed their trademark smooth teamwork and technical expertise, but Taylor seemed to be readily embracing Roberts' lessons in the darker path, and when Roberts set up Keith with a nasty blindside kneelift , Taylor swiftly followed up with a Fivearm to get the win. Taylor looks to become even more difficult to unseat as TV champ under Roberts' mentorship.

Dan Spivey & Al Perez vs. The Starr "Cousins"

After the twin blows of having Terry Taylor turn on them and the brutal beating at the hands of the Freebirds, the remaining members of the Brigade are clearly looking to close ranks.  Mike Rotunda has taken on the role of "captain" to his colleagues and was at ringside to support Spivey and Perez against the always devious Starrs. Ron and Chicky pulled out plenty of underhanded moves from their bag of tricks, but Rotunda helped keep his friends focused and eventually the power of Spivey and technical skills of Perez prevailed, with Spivey hoisting Chicky over his shoulder and Perez coming off the top rope with an elbowsmash, a devastating double team that brought them the victory. The Brigade may have taken some shots, but they are clearly determined to come back strong.

Eddie Hogan vs. Larry Zbyszko

Hulk Hogan's kid brother has eagerly gotten himself involved in the ongoing issue with Larry Z and swiftly got himself a match with the man himself. Eddie's eagerness quickly bought him a lot of trouble as, despite Hulkster's presence at ringside trying him to calm him down , the younger Hogan kept finding himself drawn into various tricks and traps by Larry Z, only getting out due to his considerable power and energy. When KY Wakamatsu looked to bring his megaphone into play, Hulk rushed over to cut him off, but this also turned out to be a trap, as Kendo Nagasaki suddenly appeared in the ring and blasted Eddie in the face with the green mist. One thrust kick to the jaw later and Eddie was easy pickings for Larry, who rolled him up for the three count. It looks like Eddie Hogan might need to learn to walk before he runs if he wants to be of any help to his big brother.

Billy Jack Haynes & Texas Red vs. Ragin' & Ravishing

Having finally settled the score with the Marauders last time out, Billy Jack and Texas Red find themselves facing a team making their Pacific Coast debut. "Ravishing" Rick Rude is a muscular young man who brings with him equal parts aggression and arrogance. "Ragin' Bull" Manny Fernandez , on the other hand, is a more established wrestler with a distinct wild side. The two together made for a potent combination, and Billy Jack and Red certainly had their hands full trying to keep them contained. It looked like Red might just get the better of them when he had Rude lined up for his big flying elbow drop, when somebody came out of nowhere and shoved him hard off the turnbuckle, sending him crashing to the mat. It was "Doctor D" Dave Schultz! Schultz, wielding an axe handle, charged into the ring and went to work on Red while Ragin' & Ravishing dogpiled on Billy Jack. Schultz got in a couple of good shots on Red's still damaged leg but focused most of his attention on his ribs before Billy Jack broke through and rescued his partner. Red was clearly in bad shape as he hobbled to the back. The ref declared that Ragin' & Ravishing had lost by DQ, but you would have thought they had won by the way they and Schultz congratulated each other and cackled. They might have lost the match, but they certainly debuted with a lot of impact.

Zenk is racking up the wins while poor Flowers has been in a slump.

Taylor and Jake make quite a pair. As mentioned, it's going to be hard getting the title off Taylor with Jake around.

Spivey and Perez get a big win over the Starr's. Captain Mike really had them focused tonight.

LOL, Hulk is going to have to try and calm Eddie down. That boy gets excited. Now Larry Z has a victory over both Hogan's.

Right on! Rude and Fernandez arrive as a team. Great seeing R&R in the Pacific. To top it off, Dr. D has also arrived! Watch out!

Kendo, Fuchi and Hito score a huge win over the Guerreros.

That Freebirds/Vachon's match must of been a wild one. Gordy looks strong as he gears up for Piper.

Piper gets a win over Freebird Buddy Jack but Gordy and Hayes give Piper a post match beating. Piper will need some friends watching his back when he takes on Gordy.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Portland Sports Arena, Portland , on ESPN / TSN , December 6th

Dave Schultz vs. Gary Stritesky

After his shocking attack on Billy Jack Haynes and Texas Red last week, "Doctor D" makes his official in-ring Pacific Coast debut against the rookie Stritesky. He came out accompanied by Ragin' & Ravishing, and word has it that the trio have been calling themselves the Crazy Gang. Certainly a fitting name for Schultz as he pretty much destroyed Stritesky, all while Fernandez and Rude laughed at ringside. He even seemed to be mocking Texas Red by using one of his own finishers, the flying elbow drop, to take out Striteski. Billy Jack and Red may have run off the Marauders, but it looks like they have gone from the frying pan straight into the fire.

Mike Rotunda vs. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers

Continuing their return to keeping a close eye on each other's backs, the members of the Brigade came out in force for this match. Tom Zenk, Al Perez and Dan Spivey stayed at ringside, cheering on their Captain while still warily scouting the arena for any potential interference. Timothy Flowers put up a tough fight but in the end, it was Rotunda who prevailed by getting the pinfall after a leaping clothesline.  In spite of their recent setback, it looks like the Brigade are determined to show that they are just as strong as ever.

Keiichi Yamada & Hiro Saito vs. The Starr "Cousins"

These two teams have been dueling with each other for some time, with the Japanese team scoring most of the wins but the Starrs always a threat to take the victory at any time. This time out, things seemed a bit more intense, with the "Cousins" really taking it to their opponents and Yamada and Saito ferociously battling back.  It seemed like the Japanese team would prevail once again when Saito had Ron lined up for the top rope flying senton, but Chicky snuck up behind him and shoved him off the top turnbuckle. Ron Starr then hit a swift vertical suplex to put Saito away for the stolen victory. After the match, it was announced that the upcoming San Diego Battleground show would include a 4 corners match for the new Pacific Coast Light Heavyweight Title : Keiichi Yamada vs. Hiro Saito vs. Ron Starr vs. Chicky Starr . The heat between these two teams is set to go nuclear in that match.

Mad Dog Vachon vs. Ed Wiskowski

The Vachon Brothers have seen their fortunes take a bit of a downturn of late, with some tough losses. This has been cast in perspective with the recent announcement that Butcher Vachon would be retiring at the end of the year. With Mad Dog looking at a return to solo action, he certainly isn't taking the easy route, instead choosing a fight with the huge and vicious "Polish Prince". Wiskowski didn't seem to have much regard for Vachon, towering over him and shoving him dismissively several times. Vachon certainly wasn't about to take that lying down, and kept firing back with vicious punches and elbow shots. There wasn't a lot of finesse in this match, just down and dirty brawling that ended up spilling to the outside and resulting in both men being counted out. It took pretty much the entire security crew to separate the two afterwards. It seems like there is still a lot of bit left in the old dog, and one would overlook him at their own peril.

Ragin' & Ravishing vs. Billy Jack Haynes & Texas Red

This was supposed to be a rematch from their match of last week where Red and Billy Jack were attacked by Dave Schultz, but when Red limped out with heavily bandaged ribs, it was clear that the match was not going to take place as originally planned. Rude, Fernandez and Schultz loudly mocked Red and made crying gestures when Billy Jack got on the mic and announced that Red has suffered badly bruised ribs and had not gotten medical clearance for the match. But there mockery turned to anger when Billy Jack continued by saying he had been able to find just the right substitute for this match … RICKY STEAMBOAT!!!! The resulting fury from Ragin' & Ravishing was topped by the cheers of the fans as the popular Hawaiian, making his Pacific Coast debut, came out to the ring. Ragin' & Ravishing immediately went after Steamboat, but he swiftly dodged their attacks and retaliated with blistering chops to the chest. This opened up a crazy match with both teams going at it full throttle. The match pretty much broke down when Schultz went after the injured Red at the ringside corner of his partners. Billy Jack came over to bail out his friend, which brought over Rude and Fernandez. This inspired Steamboat to come off the top rope to the floor with a flying cross body that knocked everyone over. Steamboat was just barely able to beat the count into the ring, just ahead of Fernandez, and got the countout win for his team, but they all continued to go after each other. It was then announced that Steamboat, Billy Jack Haynes and Texas Red would face Ragin' & Ravishing and Dave Schultz on New Year's Eve in a Six Man Tag match at San Diego Battleground.

Dr. D is going to cause a lot of trouble here.

The Brigade seems to be regrouping and bouncing back.

Yamada/Saito and the Starrs continue their feud, this time the Starr's get the win. Oh man all 4 of them involved in a match for the LHW title!!! That's going to be very interesting.

RICKY STEAMBOAT is here!!! WOW! This is huge! Steamboat gets right into it as him and Billy Jack have a wild match with R&R. That 6 man tag at Battleground is going to be off the charts!

Solid card in Portland.

Zenk stays on his winning streak as he beats Ron Starr.

R&R get a strong win over the Vachons.

Burke and Gypsy give Rose and Sommers one heck of a fight but come up just short in the end.

Ok, that Guerreros/Hito-Fuchi match was freakn amazing! What a match! I would love to see a rematch.

Piper gets the DQ win over Hayes but I'm sure Hayes didn't care as the Freebirds do a number on Piper. Piper needs friends and fast otherwise Gordy might walk away with the title.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Cow Palace , San Francisco , on ESPN / TSN,  December 13th

The Royal Family vs. Leo Burke & Gypsy Joe

The competition in the Tag Ranks is reaching a fever pitch, with new teams joining the roster and hot challenges for both the Pacific and Golden State tag title.  With all of this going on, these two veteran teams were certainly not about to let themselves be forgotten. The raw ferocity of the Royal Family was matched by the "hard as ten bears" toughness of Burke and Gypsy Joe, and the result was a brutal match with all four contestants being busted open at different points. Ultimately, it was Jonathan Boyd who was able to catch Gypsy Joe in the Royal Neckbreaker to get the win for his team, but both teams clearly made the statement that overlooking them would be a very dangerous mistake for any other team.

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs. Anthony Robinson

Last week, Ricky Steamboat's appearance last week as a replacement for Texas Red shocked the whole of Pacific Coast Wrestling. This week, "The Dragon" had the spotlight  to himself and put on a clinic in high finesse wrestling as he easily dealt with young Robinson. The fans cheered and swooned with every move that Steamboat used, each delivered with textbook precision before hitting the top rope flying cross body press to score the pinfall. The arrival of Steamboat is a game changer for Pacific Coast, that is for sure.

Hiro Saito vs. Ron Starr

Both of these men will be involved in the Four Corners match to determine the first Pacific Light Heavyweight Champion. This match wound up being a bit of a switch. The normally technically inclined Saito went all out against Starr , with blistering chops and kicks along with several nasty blindsides snuck in. Starr, on the other hand, no stranger to dirty tactics himself, instead chose to show off his considerable scientific skills, pulling off some incredible counters when it seemed like Saito had him dead to rights. Both men were still going at it full bore when the bell rang, signaling a 10 minute time limit draw. If this is a sign of things to come, the match at San Diego Battleground will be truly epic.

Buddy Roberts vs. Tom Zenk

The Freebirds have been creating chaos all over the Pacific Coast since their arrival , and Buddy "Jack" Roberts has been perhaps their most chaotic element. Tom Zenk, on the other hand, has been on an impressive streak of late, getting a series of wins as he gears  up to face Terry Taylor for the Television Title. None of this seemed to impress Roberts, who told his Freebird brothers Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy to head back to the locker room, he was going to have some fun by himself as he destroyed Zenk. A bit premature, as it turns out, as Zenk was able to keep one step ahead of Buddy Jack and get the better of a number of exchanges. A visibly frustrated Roberts swiftly headed straight to the gutter with some nasty cheap shots, but this only seemed to inspire Zenk to come back harder. Roberts tried to steal some time to regroup with a vicious eyerake, followed by tossing Zenk over the top rope and out of the ring. He should have paid closer attention, as Zenk caught himself on the top rope and pull himself to the apron. He then dashed to top turnbuckle and surprised Roberts with a missile dropkick before going for the cover. One … two … THREE!!! Zenk seemed just as surprised that he had managed to pull off the biggest upset of his Pacific Coast career. The other members of the Brigade charged out to the ring , both to congratulate him and to form a line of defense against the other members of the Freebirds who were out soon after. The Freebirds decided not to risk going against superior numbers, but clearly were not happy with the results. Zenk's momentum keeps building as he heads into his showdown with Taylor.

Eddie Hogan vs. Kendo Nagasaki

Unlike the gang mentality shown by the Freebirds , the Crazy Gang and the Buddy Rose Army, Eddie Hogan seems very keen to prove his own merits outside the shadow of his more famous big brother . To that end, he came out alone to face his nemesis, Kendo Nagasaki. A big risk, given that Kendo had both Larry Zbyszko and KY Wakamatsu at ringside, but Eddie was quite determined to go it alone. Both of Kendo's cohorts provided frequent distraction for Eddie, and he took a lot of damage from Kendo's martial arts offense, but he kept battling back. The climatic moment came when Wakamatsu had the ref distracted while Larry came in with the megaphone. He was interrupted by a big kick by Eddie, who immediately locked him up in a Sleeper hold. Larry struggled in vain to escape, but then Kendo blasted Eddie in the face with the green mist. Eddie immediately released the sleeper, rubbing at his eyes in agony, and one spin kick to the jaw later and Kendo had scored the dirty victory. Eddie Hogan's heart seems to be in the right place but he just keeps getting overwhelmed by Kendo and his dastardly crew.

First off the Battleground card looks stacked!

Like this tag feud going between the Royal Family and Burke/Joe. They've had some hard hitting and brutal matches.

Steamboat is defiantly a game changer here.

One match I'm looking forward to is the 4 corners match. Saito and Starr give us a nice preview.

WOW! Zenk gets the huge upset over Buddy Jack! Taylor better be ready.

Poor Eddie LOL, he puts up a fight but the numbers (and mist) once again prevail.

It's going to be hard to take the straps off the Guerrero's, just ask the Assassins.

Hulk gets the win by DQ. Eddie goes for the rescue but gets a beating. Can the Hogan's regroup and get the better of Larry Z, Kendo and Wakamatsu?

Gordy gets the pin in the 6 man tag. Gordy is looking strong as he has his sights set on Piper at Battleground.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , on ESPN / TSN , December 20th

Dino Bravo vs. Doug Somers

San Diego Battleground is just around the corner, and both of these men are heading towards a big clash for the AWA Pacific Tag Team titles. Both men came out with their partners, but were informed by the ref that, by Pacific Coast Wrestling orders, due to the high volatility of the upcoming big show, for this show only anyone not cleared to be at ringside would be barred under penalty of suspension. After some brief protest, Phil LaFleur and Buddy Rose returned to the locker room. Despite this attempt by the officials to keep this match under control, there was still plenty of chaos to be seen as Somers used every dirty trick he could fit in to get some damage done before the Tag Titles were on the line. The always resilient Bravo was still able to catch him in the side suplex for the victory, but the toughest battle still lay ahead at San Diego Battleground.

Kendo Nagasaki vs. Super Strong Machine

Since KY Wakamatsu is Kendo's official manager, he was allowed at ringside for this match and provided plentiful distraction for Super Strong Machine. KY's constant hectoring on his megaphone grated on the nerves of both Machine and the fans, but his face painted charge was laser focused, attacking Machine with precision kicks and chops. Machine fought back gamely, giving as good as he got, but Kendo was able to duck under a big roundhouse kick and take down the masked man with a nasty legsweep. He then caught Machine in a Scorpion Hold and forced him to give up. There will be nothing stopping him from being in the corner of Larry Zbyszko at San Diego Battleground, and the Hogan Brothers had best watch their backs.

Billy Jack Haynes vs. Manny Fernandez

The Crazy Gang might not have been in Pacific Coast for long, but they certainly wasted no time in starting a feud with Billy Jack, Texas Red and the newly arrived Ricky Steamboat. For tonight's show, it would be the aptly named "Ragin' Bull" Manny Fernandez who would square off with Pacific Coast favorite Billy Jack Haynes. It was everything Billy Jack could do to try to keep Fernandez contained, as the Ragin' Bull came at him with speed and fury. Billy Jack kept executing bigger and bigger moves on him to try and put him down, and Fernandez just kept tearing into him. Billy Jack was just barely able to keep his shoulders down for a three count after catching him off the ropes with a crushing powerslam, but even after that Fernandez wanted to keep going. The matchup at San Diego Battleground is set to be explosive.

AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Terry Taylor © vs. Al Perez

With neither Jake Roberts nor the Brigade at ringside, Taylor would have to face head on the challenge of his former Brigade compatriot, Al Perez. Perez was clearly looking for payback for Taylor's betrayal of the group and kept his head in this match. Instead, he brought his considerable technical and submission expertise to bear on the champion, who was just barely able squeak out of several compromising situations. Perez looked like he might just be able to take the title when he had Taylor set up for a German Suplex, but Taylor countered with a backwards low kick. Perez had the move scouted , however, and blocked it then followed up with a single leg take down. Taylor then grabbed a hold of the ropes to block the take down and countered with a roll up of his own, assisted by a fistful of trunks and his feet on the robes. He was able to get the tainted victory, but he is likely to need more than that to withstand the challenge of Tom Zenk at San Diego Battleground.

AWA Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Roddy Piper © vs. Buddy Roberts

As the last defense before San Diego Battleground, Piper certainly had his hands full with Buddy "Jack" Roberts. He might not have had his Freebird brothers available to run interference for him, but Buddy still had a wealth of experience and a heaping dose of the crazies, and he certainly brought both into his challenge for the big belt. Piper is certainly no stranger to sanity optional wrestling himself, and the result was a very furious and chaotic match where both men took a lot of damage. It seemed like it might go to a draw when the two men were slugging it out on the outside, but Piper managed to hit a piledriver on the floor and just barely make it back into the ring in time to win by countout. Piper had clearly taken a lot of damage and you can imagine Terry Gordy licking his chops at the thought of taking advantage of the champ's weakened stage at San Diego Battleground.

Bravo has (Battleground) momentum going in his team's favor by getting the win over Sommers.

Larry Z has quite the cornerman in Kendo as Kendo gets a submission win over Super Strong Machine.

Billy Jack gets a big win over Fernandez but Raging Bull brought the fight.

Taylor retains against Perez but Zenk is right around the corner.

Buddy Jack takes it to Piper but Piper retains. Can Piper get past Gordy???

Royal Family win this round against Burke and Joe. I'm liking this feud.

WOW! Steamboat vs. Rude. What a match!

HUGE win for Zenk. He beats Fuchi and proves why he's in line for a TV title shot.

Hogan's get the job done tonight but I'm sure Larry and Kendo will be coming back with tricks up their sleeves.

Things are heating up between Taylor and Zenk. Their upcoming match might steal the Battleground show.

Gordy defiantly is going into Battleground with some steam. Piper better be on his A game.

AWA Pacific San Diego Battleground, San Diego Sports Arena , San Diego , December 31st , 1984

The Royal Family vs. The Hart Brothers

The last big show of the year for Pacific Coast Wrestling got off to a rip roaring start as the terrifying Antipodean duo of Jonathan Boyd  and Rip Morgan took on Calgary's First Family of Wrestling, Bruce and Keith Hart. The Harts did their best to use their considerable technical expertise to keep a lid on the Royal Family's offense, but in the end, the sheer size and aggression of the Royals proved to be too much to handle, and Boyd whipped Keith into a massive Big Boot from Morgan to get them the win. The Royal Family certainly are poised to make a big impact in the new year.

Four Corners Match for the new Pacific Coast Light Heavyweight Title : Keiichi Yamada vs. Hiro Saito vs. Ron Starr vs. Chicky Starr

This match had a lot of anticipation going in, as it would not only crown a new champion for the brand new Pacific Coast Light Heavyweight title, but it would pit not only rivals but partners against each other. The Starr "Cousins" seemed to have the opinion that it didn't matter which of them won the title as they decided to go with strength in numbers. They kept on double teaming whichever of the Japanese wrestlers was in the ring , eventually settling on working over the younger Yamada. This would prove to cost them, as Ron was holding Yamada for a dropkick by Chicky, only for Yamada to break free just in time and Chicky to send his "cousin" out of the ring. Yamada swiftly followed up with a Tiger Suplex on Chicky to get the first elimination. Ron came back hard , determined to avenge his "cousin". He administered a pretty vicious beating on young Yamada, getting several near counts before whipping Yamada into the ropes for a lariat. Yamada countered with a Crucifix Cradle and was just barely able to keep Starr's shoulders down for the three count. This left him alone with his partner, Hiro Saito, but if he expected mercy or any kind of break from their friendship, it was certainly not forthcoming. The two Japanese stars battled back and forth, with it seeming at numerous occasions as though either man could take the title. It seemed like the earlier battering would prove to be too much for Yamada as Hiro had him set up for the top rope flying senton. However, Yamada was able to roll out of the way at the last second, and Saito landed hard on the mat. Yamada then caught Saito in a double leg roll up and got the final three count. Yamada was the inaugural Light Heavyweight champ, and he and Saito bowed and embraced as the fans gave them a well deserved standing ovation.

Golden State Tag Team Title Match : Hector & Mando Guerrero ©  vs. Mister Hito & Masanobu Fuchi

The Guerreros have kept a very tight grip on the Golden State Tag Titles ever since becoming the first champs back in June. But the Japanese team on Hito and Fuchi have been very hot on their trail of late. Both teams went all out in this matchup, with the Guerrero's high flying and precision team work matching up with the hard hitting strikes and tight submissions of Hito and Fuchi. Mando ultimately got Hito in a waistlock to finish him off with the German Suplex, but Hito blocked it and reversed the waistlock into his own backdrop driver. One … two … THREE! A bit of an upset as Hito and Fuchi finally dethrone the champs.

Billy Jack Haynes, Texas Red & Ricky Steamboat vs. The Crazy Gang ( Ragin' & Ravishing and "Dr. D" Dave Schultz)

From the moment of their arrival in the Pacific Coast, the Crazy Gang have more than lived up to their name, spreading chaos and mayhem every time they showed up.  Their brutal feud with Billy Jack and Texas Red has drawn in the Dragon himself, Ricky Steamboat, and has led to some insane matches. This one was no exception, as it was all the ref could do to keep only two men in the ring at a time. Eventually, all six men were brawling at ringside, until Ricky Steamboat came off the top rope with a flying cross body press that knocked everyone down. Steamboat was the only one able to make it back in the ring on time, getting his team the win by countout. A hard fought win, but this feud is clearly far from over.

Pacific Coast Coast Television Title Match : Terry Taylor ©  vs. Tom Zenk

Terry Taylor started his turn to the dark side by abandoning his partner , Tom Zenk, in the middle of a tag match. Zenk has been looking for vengeance ever since, and a chance at the Television Title would make revenge all the sweeter. Taylor clearly is wary of Zenk as he brought out his evil mentor, Jake "The Snake" Roberts , along with the Starr "Cousins" to be in his corner for this match. Zenk, in turn, brought out the other members of the Brigade (Mike Rotunda, Dan Spivey and Al Perez) to watch his back. All of this crowd at ringside could potentially form a distraction to the men in the ring, but Zenk was determined to keep his focus on his former partner. Taylor was backpedaling through much of the match, but always able to dodge any potential trap that Zenk might spring on him. It looked like it was all over for Taylor when Zenk hit a missile dropkick that sent him flying across the ring, but Jake Roberts put Taylor's foot on the ropes to break up the count. Taylor , in turn, thought he had it wrapped up when he took advantage of a distraction from the Starrs to blindside Zenk with a Fivearm, but Zenk got his own foot on the ropes just in time. Soon after , Zenk attempted to put him down with a Superkick , which Taylor ducked and countered with a single leg rollup. Zenk in turn reversed it with his own rollup. One … two … and then the bell rang, signaling a 20 minute time limit draw. A tough break for Zenk, but you just know he is determined to get his hands on championship gold sooner or later.

Butcher Vachon's Retirement Match : The Vachon Brothers vs. The Assassins

A bittersweet moment for the Vachons and the fans, as this would be the Butcher's final match before his  retirement. He was clearly looking to go out with a win , as he and his brother slugged it out furiously with their masked opponents, but the Assassins were no pushovers, and gave as good as they got. Nothing the Assassins did held back the Vachons for long, and Mad Dog eventually got Assassin #2 over his knee in a backbreaker while his brother came off the top rope with a kneedrop. Butcher got the pinfall, and the crowd cheered as the two brothers tearfully embraced in the ring, a fitting farewell for a worthy competitor.

Pacific Coast Tag Team Title Match : The French Revolution ©  vs. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers

The champions were coming in at a disadvantage, with Phil Lafleur having been badly hurt in a recent match against the Freebirds. Dino Bravo did his best to cover for his young partner, but eventually it came to the point where he had to tag in Lafleur, and the Army showed no mercy as they went for the kill. Lafleur put up a valiant fight , but the accumulated damage turned out to be too much, and Bravo was unable to save him . Rose and Somers are the new champions and have brought gold back to the Army.

No DQ Match : Hulk Hogan vs. Larry Zbyszko

This would be the culmination of the Hulkster's lengthy feud with the wily Larry Z, and as a No DQ match there would be no excuses for either side. Larry was backed up by his manager, KY Wakamatsu, and his bodyguard, Kendo Nagasaki, while Hulk was backed up by his brother, Eddie Hogan.  Larry did everything he could to avoid directly engaging Hulk, letting his cohorts sneak in their cheap shots and getting his own in when  Eddie tried to stop them. He managed to get Hulk staggered against the ropes when he called for Wakamatsu to throw in his megaphone. Wakamatsu was cut off by Eddie Hogan, who locked him in the Sleeper hold. Kendo immediately came over and blasted Eddie in the face with the green mist, but unlike the last time that happened, Eddie kept the Sleeper locked in, although he was clearly in agony. Kendo started savagely pummeling Eddie's face and head with brutal chops, but the younger Hogan continued to refuse to let go of the hold. Larry was getting more and more frustrated at the delay, until he realized to his horror that Hulk had recovered and was staring him in the face. The Hulkster nailed him with a couple of big punches, flattened him with the Axe Bomber, and then  polished  him off with the big leg drop.   After the match, Hulk helped up his battered younger brother and raised his hand, showing appreciation for his resilience.

Pacific Coast Heavyweight Title Match :  "Rowdy" Roddy Piper ©  vs. Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy

Ever since their explosive debut in the Pacific Coast, the Fabulous Freebirds have let it be known that they aim to take over the promotion, and here they would have their highest profile shot at the Heavyweight title. Terry Gordy has been an absolute wrecking ball, bowling over every opponent who has gotten in his path, and the normally confident Piper seemed at a loss as to what to do with the huge Freebird. The Hot Scot did his best to work a cat and mouse game with Gordy, using hit and run tactics to keep him off balance, but eventually Gordy would come back with a huge power move that would knock Piper for a loop. Gordy even got the champion in the Asiatic Spike for an agonizingly long period before Piper was able to get to the ropes to break the hold. Piper in turn was able to catch Gordy in the sleeper. Gordy tried driving Piper back first into the corner, but Piper held on tight. But Gordy then dropped suddenly back first onto the mat and the full weight of the massive Freebird was too much for Piper, who let go of the hold. Gordy then got Piper up and hit a huge piledriver, but Piper somehow found it in him to kick out before three. Enraged, Gordy hit a second piledriver, but Piper heroically got his shoulder up at the last moment. Gordy screamed at him and hit a third piledriver, and it proved to be too much for Piper's valiant sprit and the ref marked the three count. The crowd was in shock as the remaining Freebirds rushed the ring, waving their confederate flags. Terry Gordy was now the heavyweight champion, and it doesn't look like anyone can stop him now.

I knew Battleground was stacked and couldn't wait for the show.

Great way to open the show as the Royal Family put down the Hart's. 1985 could be the Royal Family's year.

I was really looking forward to the 4 way match and it delivered as it was full of excitement and drama. Yamada gets the hard fought win and deserves the title.

Fuchi and Hito defeat the Guerreros and take the Golden State straps! The Guerreros had a tremendous run.

Wild 6 man match! Steamboat picks up the win for his team as everybody is counted out. Looking forward to more of this crazy feud.

I really liked the Taylor/Zenk build up and was excited for this match. Great match full of near falls and interference. They go the limit. I cant wait for the rematch.

Butcher retires on a high note as him and Mad Dog put down the Assassins.

Rose and Sommers take the gold! These guys were one of my favorite teams so I'm happy with this. I'm hoping to see a rematch, next time with a healthier LaFleur.

Tonight, Eddie gets his redemption! He shows true heart as he helps big brother fight the distractions. Hulk gets the satisfying win over Larry. Great blow off here.

Gordy defeats Piper for the title! Piper put up one heck of a fight but in the end Gordy was just to much. Who can stop Gordy???

Awesome way to end the year. 1985 should be a blast!
