Pro Wrestling Love Goes Audio! On the Place To Be Wrestling Feed! Thank you to JT & Scott for hosting us! My brother says you can get access to "Place To Be Wrestling Feed" on Spotify and if you have an iPhone you have the purple Podcast app you can search for "Place To Be Wrestling" Feed and it will come up. I assume Apple Music/iTunes has it. Here is the web link:

https://placetobe.podbean.com/

The hook in my opinion of the inaugural episode is my guest who is none other than PWO stalwart @El-P! I am so glad to have a chance to have an at length conversation with Jerome on pro wrestling as it was the most fun I have had during the Pandemic. Thank you so much for joining me, Jerome! We are discussing our Top 25 Matches in TNA/Impact Wrestling History. Of course when you get two PWO fans together there was no way to house all this goodness in one episode. So the first episode is just #25-21! We will continue to do it in 5 match chunks as we countdown to the Best TNA/Impact Wrestling Match of All Time.

We hope you all enjoy this and please we welcome all feedback! Agree, disagree, thought we missed a match, please let us know! It was a blast to do this and we hope you all enjoy!

Thanks Beast, did you get a chance to listen what did you think? Yes Cactus my hope was to help people with the Greatest Match Ever project at gweproject.freeforums.net with any blind spots they might have with TNA/Impact. Yes it is definitely marred by bad booking but there’s still a treasure trove of hidden gems. I hope this helps you & others!

Its Sunday! You know what that means! Marty & Jerome continue to spread the Pro Wrestling Love on the Place to Be Wrestling Podcast Feed (thanks Justin & Scott for having us).

https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-sugne-f445a7

Episode 2 gets us through #20-16 of our Best TNA/Impact Wrestling Matches of All Time Jerome gives the contemporary stuff lots of love while Marty to his own surprise gives Chris Sabin a lot of love! It’s TNA so there’s plenty of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels talk too! Hope you all enjoy! Let us know what you think!

Hey AA484 thanks for the love! I, also, prefer the written word, brutha. It is more exact. I think you can reach a broader audience with audio. Glad you dig my write-ups. I am in the Microscope section for now. Watched a couple episodes of AWA All-Star Wrestling and have been digging through St. Louis' Wrestling At The Chase so you can catch me there!

Pro Wrestling Love vol. 3 is up and ready to be consumed & digested. I have a got of shit going on in my personal life right now so I am going to keep this short and sweet. If you have been enjoying listening to me and Jerome/El-P break down what we think is the very best of TNA/Impact Wrestling of all time then click the link and enjoy because it is only getting better! Have a great week everybody! Let me know if you have any comments, questions or requests!

I haven't regularly listened to any wrestling podcasts since Hurricane Laura hit my neck of the woods. I made the leap over to true crime & comics stuff around then, but this is the perfect excuse for me to get back on board. God forgive me, but I just love me some good ole TNA/iMPACT hidden gemstones!

Looking forward to listening soon, guys. Marty's enthusiasm on Tag Teams was always so damn infectious, and I'm anxious to hear El-P in living airwaves for a change.

Greatly enjoying this series already, guys. Hearing Marty talk about "the kids nowadays" labeling matches as bangers had me cracking up. And I dig El-P's whistles and whirly sound effects when describing flips & bumps. Good stuff.

Loved Marty pointing out the way fans used to chant for their favorite wrestlers to win matches. Fast forward a handful of years, and that had almost entirely eroded away into what we're left with today - everything refers to match quality. It's a sad, steep decline in terms of crowd involvement & emotional investment.

I'm not sure if that began with the fans, or if it's a product of the promotions educating their fans that wins & losses rarely ever matter anymore. After all, what's the point in cheering for your favorite to win in a world where there are no consequences or truly meaningful results?

What's the point in becoming engrossed in an outcome when they're just going to do the exact same song & dance again next week? Might as well react to the action & the movement in the moment, because that's all that matters. The winners and losers are irrelevant.

Interesting notes about Gail Kim throughout the discussions, too. She's extremely underrated in the big scheme of things, I think. I'm glad you guys got to touch on her time in the Sensational Sherri role, as I think it's even more overlooked. But yeah. She worked hard in that spot to enhance A LOT of those Planet Jarrett, big main event dog & pony show style matches.

Austin Aries is a personal favorite of mine, and I think that his real life asshole attitude actually enhances his aura & plays into his polarizing reputation. It's like Shawn circa 97 in some regards.

So yeah. I was stoked to hear two of my faves get mentioned here. The Morrison main event from BFG got a solid review from me in real time here on the board, and the Slammiversary opener against Samoa Joe was just bonkers. It packed the star-making performance punch of a big main event, but it was condensed into a SOOPAH FUN opening sprint. Loved it. Still do.

I'm curious to see if either of the Aries/Roode or Aries/Bully matches get mentioned in future episodes. The lists are dwindling down, so maybe not. Because I've got a feeling there are a few that we still haven't heard discussed, specifically one involving AJ and (fingers crossed) another gem involving Angle in a cage.

Similar to the situation with Aries, Callihan is a guilty pleasure for me. The guy takes my favorite aspects of the Bully Ray character and just amplifies everything to eleven. You guys are absolutely right that Sami seems to LOVE the hate he gets. The dude plays the role of disgusting, despicable heel to the hilt.

Matches aside, Callihan's FEUDS with Penta, Cage, Tessa, and Swann all deserve to be talked about among the very best rivalries in the history of the company - hell, in the last 20 years of professional wrestling.

I'm a story and character fan first & foremost. So, even when the matches aren't necessarily the sharpest, I'll go along for the journey if the rivalry is worth following. And Callihan always brings that to his programs.

Masks, fireballs, blood, partnerships, betrayals, you name it. The guy pours truckloads of effort & energy into his work.

And lastly, there's the AJ/Daniels talk. My god. I love the parallels of their various feuds so much. They actually had two storybook final chapters (in 2009 and again in 2012), both of which felt like truly significant peaks for their characters' history together. Both matches were fitting finales, and both felt like something a lot of other feuds would strive for but never achieve.

Hunter and Shawn, with all their Shakespearean stage play, particularly come to mind. They had the more popularized story, for sure. But none of their matches ever truly resonated the way AJ and Daniels did for me.

Can't wait to hear the next couple of installments, guys. Here's hoping that one cage match I'm thinking of gets a metric ton of love.

 It's basically me either cheating my way out of not finding the right English words at times or me just being not-finishing-sentences-regular-me. I also use "gnééé" WAY too much when I want to express not getting what's so special about something. Hey, thanks, glad you enjoy it !

Oh yeah, none of those made the list for obvious reasons but she was always tons of fun in those and surely made them way more fun than they should have been on paper.

Yeah, Callihan to me has been the MVP of IMPACT in 2018 and 2019 (along with Tessa), always bringing his opponents UP in term of having the audience caring about them. Funny that some people who are not necessarily fans of more go-go-go style fail to see this about him, he's a great character/angle/feud driven worker and always deliver for the big matches (and is never afraid to show ass while playing 200% straight heel). I like the analogy with Bully Ray, indeed. 2020 has been more hit and miss for him, but working with Shamrock and in empty arenas has not done him any favours.

I won't spoil things. But if you paid attention to the matches we have mentioned but not talked about yet, well, there is some cage stuff there...

Thanks for the feedback!

Sorry for being a day late, but hopefully not a dollar short! A lot going in my personal life and now I can share it, my family save for me, got COVID. It is Day 10. Dad & brother has made the full recovery but Mom still has lingering effects of fatigue. That's why I have been a little out of it and not as communicative.

I think this was my personal favorite episode of this current five episode run we are on. @El-P and I discuss our #10-6 and we get into over Kurt Angle and also Kayfabe/conviction of pro wrestlers. I loved talking about with Jerome. I agree, Jerome, I think we got into a better groove during the second recording session and it really culminates in this episode here.

https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-kbkz4-f4466f

@SomethingSavage thank you for the detailed reviewed! That's a mighty nice compliment you gave me and brutha I really appreciate it. The whole bangers thing and why I sounded so skeptical is that I took a girl to a Beyond Wrestling show, yes a real live girl, I described a match as a Banger and she looked at me like I was the biggest nerd that ever nerded.

Agree with some of your points on the outcomes not mattering as part of why fans not caring about the wrestlers and moved onto action. I will raise you it is not just outcomes but the whole match does not matter. It does NOT have to be 90s All Japan, but there needs to be some inter-match storytelling. At least one plot point in the match that moves the story forward and then they build on that for the next match, but that never happens anymore. That's why it is so easy to match 21st Century matches in a vacuum but rarely does not anything but the story of the exact match you are watching, you dont really need context.

Love that you love those two Austin Aries! That sprint is a BANGER~! :P

I dont think you have to feel guilty about taking pleasure in Callihan working. The dude is a heel's heel. I admire that!

Ayyyy! You guys FINALLY got around to one of the two cage matches.

Really dug the latest episode, even if I would've liked more love from Marty on the Anderson/Angle topic. A lot of valid points were made from both sides, to be fair.

But yeah. When we're listing personal favorites, this one cracks my top five for sure. I just love the grudge and the basic "bare necessities" approach to the match. It felt like a traditional cage template, updated with some of the more modern moves (even then, nothing too stunt-happy or outrageous).

I've reviewed that cage match a couple of times here on the board, and it always ends with me gushing over the sense of finality and hate in the finish. Love it.

But let's talk BANGERS. I mean, is Samoa Joe the uncrowned king of energetic sprints or what?? He's GOT to be near the very top.

The opener with Aries from Slammiversary. The Sabin decimation. The Daniels angle with the bloody towel. The heated brawl with Brock from Balls of Fire or whateverthefuck.

Heck, even in that funky 2014-2015 phase when TNA was taping shows in New York, Joe had some super fun sprints with both Homicide and Low Ki - two guys who unfortunately had VERY FEW solid Impact matches on their resume.

Joe just almost always has this tendency of bringing the energy and the intensity to these short sprints. Especially as his body has aged, I think it might be his sweet spot as an in-ring performer.

Glad that Jarrett got some significant discussion, too. Double J is a weird one for me. I've outright despised him at times - like the Chosen One and WCW World Champ horseshit.

But then there are times I've absolutely enjoyed the absurdity of his heel character. The original WWF "woman beater" angle. The Planet Jarrett shtick cosplaying as some sort of Triple H tribute act. The Double J Double M A submission specialist stuff. All of that was genuinely great in its absurdity.

But, in the ring, he's always been sort of dry and bland to me. I think the Hunter comparison is very apt, actually.

However, Jarrett occasionally taps into something extra as an in-ring babyface. Out of the ring, I don't know that I've ever felt or cared or sympathized with Jarrett as a character babyface. (And that's wild, considering the whole widowed survivor story bit sort of writes itself.)

But the in-ring babyface Jarrett can be quite tremendous. Similar to the way I feel toward Sting, I find Jarrett's fired up comebacks to be strangely exciting and captivating. The guy brings the excitement level up to eleven and just fires the fuck up at precisely the pitch perfect moment in time to GRAB you. There's something about those key, critical babyface comebacks that feel super-charged and frenzied. It's something AJ managed to master during his time there, too.

As a viewer, you know it when you see it. But you also feel it. It's the type of comeback that will send goosebumps down your arm or have you punching the air, kicking the wall, and shouting Fuck yeah to the gods for gifting you such glorious choreographed combat.

Is there a better way to ring in the New Year than to listen to two dudes who have watched way too much TNA in their lives? Here it is, the moment you all have been waiting for the Grand Finale of the Greatest TNA/Impact Wrestling Matches of All Time According to @El-P & Moi!

Who will finish number one is the obvious hook for this podcast? But this also means it is over so that means you can start hootin' & hollerin', what matches did we miss? What did we rank too high? If you agree with us, shout that out too! Ain't nuthin' wrong with a little love baby, especially Pro Wrestling Love!

https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-g2j6c-f4469c

@SomethingSavage just calling it as I see it. Definitely more power to you & Jerome for loving it. I thought Angle was great. I just could have used more from Anderson. It would have made my Top 30 easy. It was a last five cut.

Samoa Joe when he is vibing with the crowd and in that groove there is no one better. I think I mentioned but maybe I didnt but the Christian Cage BFG 2007 matches is one of my all-time favorite Samoa Joe matches. He comes off like the coolest, most badass ace asskicker of all time in that match!

If Memphis continued into the 90s and early 00s as a viable money-making territory that you could raise a family on, then I think we would be talking about Jeff Jarrett as a top 100 worker of all time. He had all the tools and the know-how, but he got sucked into bad fads and ego-trip booking. It is a real shame. I could see him being a great heir to Lawler as both a babyface or heel in Memphis.

@MoS Thank you for the kind words and listening! Let us know if you have comments or recommendations! :)

I may be misremembering the specific details of the angle to some degree, but I recall enjoying the entire Christian/Joe series as a whole. I *think* that's the feud where Christian kept finding ways to escape definitive defeats at the hands of Joe - with it all culminating at BFG, where Joe could finally corner Christian and force him into submission.

I need to revisit this match soon, for sure.

Marty, I'm wrecking my head trying to remember the last time I heard you - did tag teams are back again run into 2016?

Anyway, listened to the first wcw one and into the TNA episodes - nice finally hearing Jerome too. I followed TNA quite closely in the 2005-07 and then 2012-15 ranges. It's a little explored theme in podcasts, very refreshing to hear!

The last Tag Teams Back Again ep was Nov 2016. (I pulled the plug due to podcast burnout at the time. Planned on doing a finale in the summer of 17 but we never got around to it)
