WWE TV 04/01 - 10/01 Steph Curry is sensational

Russo is the very embodiment of "you're not wrong, you're just an asshole".  Dude's such a toxic shitheap I don't blame anyone for not taking the time to parse through it all to find the stuff that makes sense.

Well, by the infinite monkey theorem, Russo has to be right about something sometimes (same as Cornette, though he fits that Big Lebowski quote much better).

Russo was good at coming up with ideas for folks up and down the card. Not saying they were all great or anything, but the effort was made. You have large chunks of the roster that go unused because the guy everyone's trying to please doesn't give a shit about anyone other than the main event guys so the writers stopped caring about anyone not on that level.

Seems like there's about a million different interviews with ex WWE creative team members where they all have some variation of "I kept pitching ideas for *mid or low card guy* because I thought they were talented, but after being shot down so many times I stopped"

Defending Vince Russo in 2021. The dumbest dumb fuck ever. So yeah, this thread is also 23 years behind the times.

Well, in German there is the phrase "es war nicht alles schlecht", meaning "not everything was bad". Nowadays, the phrase is mostly applied in an ironic way, as for a long time (at least into the 90ies) there was a vocal ultra rightwing section of the population that used phrases like "Hitler built the Autobahn" or "during the Nazi time, the economy was doing well and there was no unemployment" (often following a phrase like "I am no Nazi but ..." or "Sure, there were horrible crimes in the 3rd Reich but ...").

(and I am aware that by this posting I am confirming Godwin's law once again)

Russo was most efficient when he had Vince McMahon going through his ideas and filter the good from the bad. That's why he was so inept in WCW because he didn't have that filter because the moment he was hired, he was given free reins and no one bothered to keep him in check. That's how we ended up with Viagra on a Pole matches and characters like Oklahoma and The Fat Chick Thriller.

Funny you should mention the Fat Chick Thriller, just saw where Arn mentioned on his podcast that the usual suspects felt threatened by Mike Awesome joining WCW that they immediately began working on giving him dumb gimmicks to undermine him.

Plus I guess we should hand it to him for being the first person to publicly call Hogan out on his bullshit.  Of course he did it in the most Russo way possible, but still.

Yeah, Russo is more of a broken clock. I give him credit for the Goldust vignettes (which I loved) and that's it. And before anyone says anything, I dare you to watch every WCW Russo TV shows & PPV and every TNA Russo TV shows and PPV.

You're throwing shade at my post without really reading it. I specifically referred to his WWE stint when he was in an organized (at the time), controlled (at the time) environment. Everything after that was indeed a heaping pile of shit.

As for Goldust, doesn't the earliest stuff pre-date Russo being in any kind of influential role?

Vince Russo didn't think people wanted to see long wrestling matches for the sake of having long wrestling matches and that's a big part of what WWE television is these days.  Just my opinion but I think he's 100 perfect right about that.

Yep, which was my original point to begin with.

So it looks like in their neverending thirst to be culturally relevant, WWE had Lacey Evans tweet at Cardi B (who was confused why WWE stans were in her mentions after Torrie wilson name dropped her on Raw) as if they were working a program, which caused Cardi to go off on her.

Peak 2021 WWE to have the white woman doing the Southern Belle gimmick calling Cardi B a "nasty" without realizing she wouldn't know it's part of her rasslin' gimmick.

Peak 2021 WWE (and really peak 2001-2021 WWE) is ignoring the basic adage of letting characters be themselves with the volume turned way up.

Lacey has an incredible story IRL. But instead of that, we get this putrid "Sassy Southern Belle" character that wouldn't survive a rewrite on any third-rate sitcom.

Dustin has credited Russo for many things about Goldust, including the vignettes. Russo was already working in creatives at the times, he was just not writing TV yet.

The "best" TV Russo ever produced was TNA when Dutch Mantell was still around sharing booking/writing duties. Much better than the Attitude Era which is mostly unwatchable today and much better than WCW 2000 (and late 99) because, well, everything is. As soon as Corny and Mantell get fired, the product goes into the toilet again.

This is where WWE desperately needs a young Black person in the room. Instead of having Lacey or Carmella communicate with Cardi, try to have Sasha or Bianca talk with her. Their gimmicks would click with her persona and WWE might actually get something out of it. Why not try to connect with Cardi through her husband Offset, who put out "Ric Flair Drip" and had Ric in the video? There was no way Cardi and Lacey were going to hit it off. Who could guess a White woman with a 1950s Jim Crow housewife gimmick wouldn't go over with millennial Blacks/POC?

Incidentally, someone asked Cardi what she thinks of Sasha, and Cardi said Sasha is great and that she's a Sasha fan

Oh come on you guys, WWE doesn't need Cardi B, they have Poppy (whoever the hell that is) and I'm sure the theme for WrestleMania will be from some sweet nu-metal band that obviously everyone has heard of, or maybe a classic like Limp Bizkit.

Then again, if they tell Vince that she sings a song called WAP, he'll probably think it's a hilarious ethnic slur against Italians and immediately pay her big bucks to sing American the Beautiful.

I want to know why they're already trying to break up the Hurt Business. It's one of the only reasons to watch.

It being Wrestlemania season and WWE being WWE I assume they will be fed to Drew like the League Of Nations were fed to Roman Reigns.

They are a great group which is sad.

Cardi B explicitly stating she likes Sasha Banks and WWE ignoring that to try to get the white, blonde girl over at their own detriment just about sums them up these days.

Do y'all think cousin Snoop has something to do with that? Either way, Sasha's popularity is well deserved. She's got it all, basically.

Also, Liv Morgan working a match with Brodie Jr. is some cute stuff. Kid's nothing short of awesome, really.

Also apparently RAW had all three hours over 2 million, which is impressive considering there wasn't much to pop the audience even for a legends show.

I wonder though how much of this rating had to do with people wanting to know if they would follow up on last week's cliffhanger.
