AEW Dynamite - June 30, 2021

I won't be watching live cuz my friends and I are going to watch the last great wrestling draw in Fast 9. Hopefully the main event is great. Sammy should go over, he is a terrible promo but is hugely over as a face, and it is time MJF put someone over

Whoever that loud guy is he can sure add something to AEW commentary.  How can he be so ON in some areas but so very very OFF on so many other things?  Four is a bit too much in the booth though.

Jacksonville are not Ethan Page fans.

Edited by Ryan Faulconer
Autocorrect wanted me to say Jericho is “soberly” ON.

I thought the crowd WAS chanting “HangMan!” back when Kenny said that “None of you…” line.

And here we go with Britt’s face turn…Nyla is not the person for this spot.  Everyone likes Britt more than Nyla.  Britt could be 100% babyface by the end of this short program of a “feud”.

Throwing burgers was an original way to try and look babyface though.

They have two choices now…

1) Let JR retire from the booth

2) Change the name of the company.   Maybe use one word like Evolve or Progress.  They have those two choices and those two choices only!

Poor JR.  He was good tonight.  Jericho seemed to make him less crotchety this week.  His one liners we’re usually painful like every week but his commentary was better than it has been lately on Dynamite.  At this point though on most nights JR reminds me of later years-Bob Cole on Hockey Night in Canada.  The action is too modern and the newer or foreign names are too hard for them to pronounce.  They don’t need to be out there at that point in their careers.

It's fine, I'm sure JR will make some self deprecating jokes on Twitter and tell everyone to "lighten up, Francis" before making another flub next week.

LOL he's already done the first part. His social media game is as predictable as his commentary.

Gotta love JR ruining a great end to the show by calling it "WWE Dynamite"

I didn’t get to watch live tonight. Please tell me you’re joking. Good lord. He could have just said Dynamite and not put any company in front of it. Sigh. Did he do this kind of stuff when he was doing commentary for New Japan on AXS?

Sadly, I'm not joking. A great episode of Dynamite ending with an emotional look back at the Pandemic Era of AEW and all anyone is talking about is how JR did a flub *again*.

It's clear at this point the only thing that will cause things to change is if Tony Khan makes an executive decision, I get it, no one wants to be the one who has to tell a legend it's time, but at this point it would be a mercy killing.

"apparently" ... "no excuses"

You can't claim a mistake yet not own up to it.

I just got done with the show, and a lot of things happened, but I am very surprised that they did not give Sammy the win. I don't think he has received a single big singles win ever.

Also, the booking of Britt's title reign has been awful so far. They start with the corniest of corny WWE-esque in-ring segment, then they book her in a heel v. heel feud with Nyla, and they decide to build to that match by having them in a tag with Rebel and fucking Vickie. Of course someone got injured; what the fuck were they thinking? And I am not sure this was a face turn by Britt- it seems like a continuation of her title reign being booked terribly so far. Really hoping they end this feud quickly, put this feud behind them and start booking their biggest homegrown star like the world champ that she is.

Loved the Elite porn staches and Dark Order motivating Hangman. That was really good booking

Honestly, the problem is there's too many people who still think he's the guy they grew up listening to on Raw in the 90s (or WCW depending on their age) who just keep ignoring the ever growing elephant in the room that is JR on commentary. Like I can see excusing it on the beginning, the guy worked for WWE forever and the brain is going to autocomplete that sometimes when you're starting somewhere else. It's been literally years now and the guy is still making these mistakes.

It seems like JR's entire post WWE career has been one long train of people making excuses for some very obvious and blatant mistakes. From clearly not doing any prep work for his New Japan gigs, to the multiple times he's belittled the product on AEW. And it's going to keep on happening until someone in power does something about it.

I think it is obvious that he despises AEW much like he despised NJPW when he called the action there, and he is only working here to get Vince's attention, in the hope that Vince has mercy and takes him back

I don't think it's that he despises it, as much as NJPW and AEW are so different from what he's used to it's alien to him. As someone who learned under Bill Watts, I understand that 100%. The problem is that not only that is he making zero effort to learn (like Tony has), he goes out of his way to grump about how it's not the style he's used to.

Thing is, I don't know if it would be any different if he did go back to WWE. Could you imagine him calling the Ricochet/John Morrison match from Raw on Monday? Maybe if he was on Smackdown it would go better for him, but he'd probably strangle Pat McAfee after like 2 weeks.

All I caught was MJF/Sammy and thought it fucking sucked. Hardcore "look at us, having this classic match" bullshit where you can tell every single second was planned out and they were patting themselves on the back at how smart and great they were while putting it together.

It doesn't help JR's case when touts poetically about how great some current WWE performers are like he did for Orton earlier this year and in the same breath criticizes those on the AEW roster, I know it's silly but perception is everything. He's so unenthused about the product and it shows in his work, time for TK to let him go or give him a backstage role.

This was a good edition of Dynamite compared to the ones that aired on Saturdays with a banger of a main event. This was MJF's second-best showing in the ring since his match with Jungle Boy at Double or Nothing last year. When they pull the trigger Sammy Guevara is going to be a damn good top babyface.
