KrisZ
Kris & David are joined by Bruce Mitchell (Pro Wrestling Torch) & Scott Passner for this special Patreon $100.00 requested show discussing the week that was August 22-28, 1989. Scott tells us why he picked this week in particular and why he wanted Bruce as a guest before we delve into the NWA and how they followed up the debacle from the week before where they aired the wrong episode of World Championship Wrestling; plus Bruce tells some great Chris Cruise stories and we also talk about Rick Steiner’s date with Robin Green. We then discuss Koji Kitao showing up at ringside for New Japan’s show at Korakuen Hall, Lioness Asuka retiring for the first time, UWA in Mexico with loaded cards, Eric Embry running wild in Dallas, and SummerSlam ’89. A tremendous show, so you better not miss it!!!!! 0:00:00 NWA 1:38:00 Int’l: AJPW, NJPW, UWF, AJW, Stampede, Monterrey, & UWA 2:25:28 Classic Commercial Break 2:30:43 Housekeeping/The Amazon Game (w/ The Clash’s “Combat Rock”) 3:11:54 Other USA: Maryland, MWA, PWF, CWF, CWA, USWA, NAWA, AWA, PWA, WIN, & Portland 4:11:33 WWF 5:04:23 Patreon Preview: Dusty Rhodes on the record To support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at https://patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. DeanColes1987
Right after SummerSlam is when WWF's business takes a sharp downturn, they don't match this show in terms of buyrates until 1998.
BruiserBrody
Checking my review notes from the Team Challenge Series "draft" episode, Baron VR actually is given Big Van Vader as one of his team. It's actually funny/sad to watch as the storyline AWA execs blunder things during the "draft" and it feels very true to life. They are supposed to have the wrestler names in a bingo ball hopper but screw up several times and force Lee Marshall to ramble on to cover for them. (The show also features Larry Z cutting a promo on the Christian Elite. ) Ah screw it, here's the full draft: Larry's Legends: Ken Patera, Akio Sato, Wayne Bloom, Mike Enos, Bob Orton, Ivan Koloff, Jake Milliman, Kokoina Maximus Sarge: Jerry Blackwell, The Fulton Bros., Johnnie Stewart, Pat Tanaka, Rocky Stone, THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, Col. Debeers Baron: Mike George, Paul Diamond, Big Van Vader, Todd Becker, Derrick Dukes, Tommy Jammer, The Russian Brute , Trooper WILD CARDS: Ricky Steamboat, Big John Studd, Nikita Koloff, Rock and Roll Express, Bam Bam Bigelow, Hector and Mando, Greg Gagne
Blazer
Kriz and Bix, Were you guys aware of the audio problems with Bruce at the beginning of the show? I'm assuming it was Skype. It would be nice if there was a workaround for the future. Hate to miss a good part of what was a tremendous show because it became almost unlistenable with the in-and-out feed on Bruce's line.
