GSR
‘Janitor’ Jim Duggan found the WCW TV title in the garbage and has declared himself the Television champion. He makes an open challenge should anyone wish to face him for the belt, a challenge which is met by Robert Gibson, because apparently no-one knows more than him what that title means! After all these years he still doesn’t know that you need to speak into the microphone so I pick up little of what he says bar “Rock & Roll Express”. A week after appearing the WWF affiliated Memphis Power Pro Wrestling Gibson turns up on WCW, it’s no Tommy Rogers he’s facing this week though. Oh how things have changes since these two were in their prime, as evidenced by the light “U-S-A” chant to try and rally old ‘Hacksaw’ as he’s in a chinlock, a hold Gibson goes back to one more than one occasion. The thing that actually gets the best response of anything, and even that’s not much, is Gibson’s using the ropes for leverage. As Duggan finds a second wind and is control his desperate opponent grabs the 2x4 out of the corner. Referee Billy Silverman tries to relieve him of it, as he does so, Duggan then charges at Gibson with a running clothesline. ‘Old Glory’ kneedrop and the champion retains. His celebrations are interrupted by Steven Regal who thinks it’s a disgrace that he has that belt, a title that he himself held on four separate occasions. He is so confident in his skills that if he can’t beat him next week then he will retire and you will never see Lord Steven Regal in WCW again. Poor match, things should be better against Regal next week at least.
