GSR
Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV Aired February 19, 1994 Jellico High School, Jellico, TN Dutch Mantel draws today’s ‘Beat the Champ’ challenger and it’s Larry Santo. They are soon joined by Chris Candido and Santo and Candido is sure everyone knows that Larry has a great win/loss record here on Smoky Mountain television! It was the biggest upset of all time when Robbie Eagle beat him for the TV title, but he knows that Santo has a match against Eagle for the TV title today and he’s betting on Larry Santo. He’s going to teach him in five minutes all it takes to beat Eagle, before Santo gets a bit of interview time and says that with Candido’s support he’s going to be the new ‘Beat the Champ’ TV champion. Well Dunn vs Bobby Blaze & Anthony Michaels INT: Well Dunn - they say that they’ve been all around the world and have held titles everywhere that they’ve been. Smoky Mountain Wrestling has some of the best tag teams so that’s why they are here, but when Well Dunn comes to town, they walk away with the gold. Chain Match: Brian Lee (w/ Tammy Fytch) vs Tony Anthony (w/ Ron Wright) (jip, from Sunday Bloody Sunday) INT: Tony Anthony & Dirty White Girl - The White Boy says that Brian Lee is saying that he’s got something that belongs to him, well if he wants it he’s just got to come through him to get it. Anthony says that Lee and Fytch have put their hands on the Dirty White Girl one time too many and gets them to play the tape from Barbourville, KY when Tammy ‘pinned’ her. The White Boy has been to the Commissioner and the Board of Directors and has asked them for a mixed tag team match. The two of them have fought together in the ring and outside and she can hold her own, so those two better be ready as this is far from over and the Dirty White Girl is going to get her hands on Tammy Fytch. INT: Brian Lee & Chris Candido & Tammy Fytch Texas Death Match: Terry Funk (w/ Dory Funk Jr. & Jim Cornette) vs The Bullet (jip, from Sunday Bloody Sunday) - Funk goes for a piledriver but The Bullet reverses it into a backdrop on a pile of chairs that Funk had previously bought into the ring. The Bullet with a DDT on the chairs then gets him a pin. Funk is unable to answer the ten count and Bob Armstrong is back in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Cornette nails The Bullet in the back with his racket after the match dropping him and then he and the Funks do a number on him. They try to get him to kiss Cornette’s feet anyway, but The Bullet is saved by Tracey Smothers and Anthony Michaels. INT: Bob Armstrong - they’re in an office building in Knoxville as a meeting has been called between the new Commissioner, ‘Bullet’ Bob Armstrong, and the Board of Directors. Armstrong kicks the crooked Harry White off the Board of Directors, throws him out of the door and says there’s going to be some changes around here. Now he is back he can be at his family reunion in Marietta, GA and he’s already signed and been approved for a cage match with Jim Cornette. He wanted it to be one on one, but Cornette was pretty smart and he couldn’t get him to agree to it being one on one, he would only do it if it was a handicap match and he could choose a partner of his choice. Cornette chose Dick Murdoch, well bring it on as he’ll do whatever it takes to get rid of him. That isn’t everything though and there is some more stuff he’s planning to take care of with the Board of Directors. INT: Jim Cornette - dressing room interview. He appealed to get the decision from Sunday Bloody Sunday reversed and get Bob Armstrong replaced as Commissioner, but that was thrown out. He did everything in his power to make sure he was never the Commissioner in Smoky Mountain Wrestling again, but he foiled him one more time when he beat Terry Funk. Now not only has he assumed the position of Commissioner but he’s got past a little ruling, and whenever he wants to right some wrong he can now wrestle too. That smacks of a conflict of interest, it smack of bribery to get past that ruling and he’s going to prove that he’s a crooked politician one way or another. If Bob Armstrong wants to get his hands on him the only way he’ll do it is in a handicap match as he’s never claimed to be a wrestler. He’s got himself Dick Murdock, the man who beat him on Christmas night in Knoxville and he’s one of the baddest men in wrestling and one of the baddest men walking the planet. Regarding the Armstrong family reunion on 3/10, he knows that they’re attempting to mutilate him, but one way or another he will live to see the following day, but he’s not sure whether Bob Armstrong will. INT: Tracey Smothers & Robbie Eagle - Smothers heard Chris Candido out here earlier running his mouth and saying how he was going to put his money on Larry Santo. If he’s a betting man he’s got $2,500 which he’s putting on Robbie Eagle and they can have a little side bet on the upcoming TV title match. INT: Jeff Jarrett - taped interview Down & Dirty w/ The Thrillseekers - “I am John Bobbit and what are you doing with that knife?” It was announced earlier in the week that Smoky Mountain Wrestling had signed, according to experts, “one of the greatest teams of all time and more than likely, the team of the 90s,” The Thrillseekers, Chris Jericho and Lance Storm. We go to footage of that signing and all the SMW officials and dignitaries like Sandy Scott, Tim Horner, Mark Curtis and Pam Lawson are there, whilst The Thrillseekers are sat at the table alongside Dutch Mantel and Bob Armstrong. It’s a proud moment for Armstrong to have The Thrillseekers in SMW, as to come here they’ve had to vacate the tag team titles that they held in Canada. This is their first venture into the United States and from the film that he’s seen, he thinks they’re the hottest team to come along in the last 20 years. Storm says SMW is the most tag team rich promotion in the world with the likes of the Rock & Roll Express and the Heavenly Bodies and that’s why they are happy to be here, so they can prove themselves against the best and show everyone that they are the tag team of the future. The Thrillseekers and Armstrong sign the contract and the deal is finalised (to rapturous applause from the SMW officials). This is the first time that they’ve ever done a contract signing for newcomers so they clearly had big things planned for them, especially when you consider Well Dunn debuted on the same TV show to no such fanfare. I would’ve preferred a music video in there somewhere showcasing them and some of their high spots, as this talk of “greatest tag team of all time” reeked of hyperbole. INT: Brian Lee & Tammy Fytch - Tammy is inconsolable and almost in tears at the prospect of having to wrestle, “she’s a student for God’s sake!” The Dirty White Girl is going to bite her, give her rabies and she doesn’t know what to do. Tammy continues to sulk, moan and throw a tantrum before Brian puts her over his shoulder and carries her off, telling Caudle it’s not as bad as it seems. 2/3 Falls Match: Heavenly Bodies (w/ Jim Cornette) vs Rock & Roll Express (from Harlan, KY) - the match is joined tied at one fall apiece and goes to a one hour draw with no further falls being taken. INT: Rock & Roll Express - dressing room interview. They say that if there was just a few more minutes in the match the belts would have been theirs, as the Heavenly Bodies were gasping for air and their tongues were hanging down to the ground. They want a match to separate the men from the boys, a match that goes for an hour to show who the real SMW tag team champions are. INT: Heavenly Bodies & Jim Cornette - Cornette says as everyone just saw from the videotape, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson ran from the Heavenly Bodies like the shameless cowards that they are for 58 minutes and 30 seconds. Although they pounded their brains out in the last four seconds they had ran for too long and the match went to a draw. The Rock & Roll Express went to Smoky Mountain and came up with this ‘Marathon match’; it has to go sixty minutes, if you quit you’re the loser and whoever scores the most falls in the course of that hour is the winner of the match. The only thing that the Rock & Rolls have done is dug their own grave because they can go an hour, just ask any woman in the Smoky Mountain area. Prichard says that since the inception of SMW the Heavenly Bodies have ruled the tag team scene and whether it took them five minutes, ten minutes or an hour, they’re going to show everyone who the real marathon men are. Cornette tells the Express to remember back to when they went sixty minutes with the Midnight Express, the Anderson and the Russians. He knows every one of their tricks, every one of their moves and every way they can be beaten. Recap of Robbie Eagle beating Chris Candido for the ‘Beat the Champ’ title Robbie Eagle (w/ Tracey Smothers) vs Larry Santo (w/ Chris Candido) - Eagle with a sunset flip, but Candido gets up on the apron and grabs Santo’s hands to stop him from falling backwards. Smothers jumps into the ring, kicks their arms to separate them, Santo falls back and Eagle gets the win while Smothers wins Candido’s $2,500. INT: Lex Luger - taped interview INT: Tracey Smothers & Tony Anthony & Dirty White Girl INT: Chris Candido - he wants Tracey Smothers out here right now, that’s his money and he wants it up again. He then quickly alters tact and says he’s the World champion, it’s not much money to him, but it is to Bob Caudle. Smothers joins him and Candido asks him if he’s going to put that money up again. Tracey says that maybe he will, maybe he won’t, “Chris, do you know how to keep an idiot in suspense? I’ll let you know next week.” Bold matches are PWO recommended
