New Japan 1990 - Part #3

July & August Dr. Death vs Masa Saito (07/05) - Fun match from what we see...ends in a brawl in the crowd and then they cut away. Kensuke Sasaki & Masahiro Chono vs. Brad Rheingans & Pegasus Kid (07/05) - OK little match. Other than an opening flourish by Pegasus Benoit, it was rather plain though.  Keiji Muto vs. Owen Hart (07/05) This looked neat on paper but they covered it in the PWO  '90 year book and it sounds not worth my time. Bummer...including it here

Quickie: Satanico vs Damien 666 - Fall 2002

Damien, Halloween & Nicho vs Satanico, Averno & Mephisto (09/27/02): Quick but clever first fall. Helluva exciting comeback in fall #2! Awesome 3rd fall - synchronized action, big dives, shenanigans & Damien vs Satanico - this was a great match!  Damien, Halloween & Nicho vs Satanico, Averno & Mephisto (10/04/02): Same crews. An excellent follow-up that builds the animosity. Singapore cane swinging, one guys taken away by doctors and nut-shots. Yes! 😄 Plenty of action to

PAC-toberfest - Part 2

AEW PAC, Penta & Rey Fenix (Death Triangle) vs. Kenny Omega & Young Bucks (The Elite) (Full Gear 2022): Yeah, I dug this. This was a bananas spot fest but I also dug the story with Omega making a comeback from injury as well as Fenix not wanting to use the bell hammer. A great 6 man match. +-+-+-+ PAC vs Malachi Black vs Clark Connors vs Miro (Forbidden Door 2022) 16 minutes of excitement. This was a neat mix of wrestling with Miro being so strong but PAC & B

PAC-toberfest

As a tribute to PAC, I'm going to be watching a variety of his matches and sharing links to the videos and my thoughts. First off, let's look at some of his matches in NXT.    Adrian Neville vs Zayn (NXT TV 11/27/13): Great 10 minute match.. All kinds of awesome aerial moves. FULL EPISODE: Nov. 27, 2013   Adrian Neville vs Bo Dallas (2/27/14 Arrival) - Pretty good ladder match. Neville/PAC really is what makes this interesting with his agility & flying moves.

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA, Classic UK wrestling, ROH & more!

AAA Octagoncito, Mascarita Sagrada &Mascarita Divina vs. Minis Abismo Negro, Psicosis & Chessman (05/21/09): The AAA minis have yet to disappoint. Bell to bell acrobatic action. Now I can't say I could pick one match from the next BUT for a weekly or biweekly lucha viewing, that's not a problem. Gato Eveready/Fabi Apache/Pimpinela Escarlata vs. Billy Boy/Sexy Star/Polvo de Estrellas (05/21/09): This feud/program is so entertaining. This match wasn't so much about the hate as much

More Psycho September: AWA, ECW & more!

I wanted to get a few more matches in this week but was busy. So, I think I'm going to find some time for 'em this weekend and will either add them to this post or make a mid week post before the month runs out. Stay tuned 🙂   AWA Big John Studd vs Mad Dog Vachon (12/25/80): Good, good old school fight. There's some real moments of greatness here. And despite this being a rough & tumble match there's some nice technical maneuvers towards the end.  Cleveland All Pro Wrestl

Psycho September Continues! ECW, WCW & more!

AAA Abismo Negro, Charly Manson, Electro Shock, and Histeria vs AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Homicide & Low Ki (Verano de Escándalo 2006 TV): Really awesome start but probably went on longer than it needed to. As time went on it was clear how team TNA out classed Los Vipers...not just kayfabe but also in actual skill. Abismo Negro & Histeria down the road looked like they should have been in the same ring with the TNA guys. There's a link for the video but its not worth sharing IMO. Not a bad

Psycho September: AWA, ECW, WWF & more!

Psycho September is looking at some of wrestling's most notable crazy-men. Truthfully, this gimmick has a ton of variation so I'm using it as a chance to watch some of my favorites and some guys I haven't seen enough of. AWA Mad Dog Vachon vs Jerry Blackwell (05/22/83): We get the last 5 minutes only but they're great five minutes. Mad Dog is drilling Jerry with punches. Very intense stuff with fantastic selling by the big man Blackwell. An easy 5 minutes of old school brawling that you w

Zero One - Fire Festival 2011 - Final Night

08/07/11 Ikuto Hidaka & Takafumi Ito vs Takuya Sugawara & Kaijin Habu Otoko: Fun, fun match! Suwa is out there as the guest official NWA referee looking like Joe Higuchi in his all red outfit & white belt. Unlike the venerable Joe, Suwa is a heel ref 😄 So he's making trouble for Hidaka & Ito (who is new to me). But it doesn't detract from the in ring action. Everyone looked great but Hidaka put on a show but I am partial. 14 minutes of enjoyment. Shinjiro Otani & Yu

Awesome August! Classic UK, FMW, NJPW

Classic UK wrestling Ritchie Brooks vs Ian McGregor (08/27/88): Not familiar with either guy but this was a scrappy contest. A single pin or submission match so the near falls went a long way. I REALLY LIKED this one. Going to keep an eye out for both. FMW W*ing Kanemura vs Masato Tanaka (08/02/97): Electrified Barb wire match. 13 minutes of death match wrestling done right! They had a great match and worked in some nice spots with the gimmick. They weren't crazy with most just being

Awesome August! AJPW, Classic UK, CMLL, FMW

AJPW Gladiator (Mike Awesome) & Maunakea Mosman vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama 08/21/99, 08/22 TV): 9 of 13 minutes shown. What an AWESOME release German suplex!!! Big moves & believable near falls. RECOMMENDED Classic UK Wrestling Vic Faulkner vs Steve Grey (08/25/76): 15 minutes of technical wrestling and humor. People use the term "work rate" as a pejorative but I don't think about it that way. So when I say this is a work rate match, I mean that as a testament to V

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA & IWA Japan

AAA Cruiserweight Tournament 2009 Joe Lider vs Nicho (Psicosis): Absolute bonkers move fest where at least 3 of the moves should have ended this. That said, both guys are known for this style so this truly was a battle of two crazies. Super fun! Xtreme Tiger vs Crazy Boy: Fun stuff, Tiger does a Corkscrew super Quebrada to the floor & hits it perfectly! Super Fly vs Laredo Kid: Actually resembled traditional lucha libre 🙂 Plus it told a good story with a post match angle.

AAA 07/05/00 in Tokyo Octagoncito VS Mini Abismo Negro: Two of my favorite AAA minis and they didn't disappoint! A spectacular display of acrobatics and athletics. They had a couple flubs right at the end because they were pushing themselves so hard for the previous 7 minutes. But its no matter because they did their job and kicked off the show with a bang! Elimination Match: Psicosis II & Maniaco & Histeria vs. Aguayo & Alebrijo & Path Finder vs. Naomichi Marufuji

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA, CMLL & NJPW

AAA I found a great source for 2009 lucha libre and have been digging into that for the last week or so. I've been watching AAA since there's less available than CMLL and thus an easier project to devote time to. Also the energy & vibe is much more American style wrestling so it's a super easy thing to watch. It reminds me of ECW in a way with many of the story lines and segments intertwining. I'm cherry picking as usual and only giving recommendations for the matches that I think deser

NJPW You Might Have Missed - 1990 - Part 2

The long awaited Part #2 of New Japan 1990.  Muto vs Choshu (05/24) Unfortunately, I didn't take any notes on this one but I did write that it was a great match! Watched the couple minutes to have some comments and Muto actually seems pretty animated and actually interested. I think my big Muto gripe as time goes on is he just seems to space out in terms of facial expressions... like he doesn't know he's on camera. It's not a stoicism thing...he just looks surprised or tired. Anyhow, Mut

AAA J.Liger, T. Mask III , HD Santo & Octagón vs La Parka, Psicosis, B. Panther & E. Guerrero (05/15/94): Fun stuff with a lot of stars in the match. 1st & 3rd falls were best. Jushin Liger and Eddie Guerrero were the standouts for their teams. Tiger Kanemoto was in quite a bit but looked just OK. He's already good as himself in '92 but he's not a Tiger Mask except for his kicks. Psicosis also is pretty good here - taking crazy bumps. Highlights of the match are the dives. Makes me

AJPW Watched "The Patriot" matches because I like a gimmick and it's almost 4th of July in the States... seemed like a good one..plus I have been meaning to watch more midcard AJPW 90's. Most/all of these are joined in progress. I LIKED them all but maybe you'll see one here that looks more interesting than others. vs Kenta Kobashi (06/03/92): An offensive move display from both. Hamada UWF / FULL SUPER ESTRELLA '90 Gran Hamada vs Perro Aguayo (06/01): 11+ minute, really good lucharesu but too many moves followed by a pin attempt which stifled the flow. A pet peeve still a quality match. Hijo del Santo vs Fuerza Guerrera (06/04): 9+ minutes, pretty good- great under 10 min. match. =-=-=-= Yoshihiro Asai vs Cuchilla (06/04): Another really good under 10 min. match. G. Badger's Greatest Wrestler Ever Round Up

Terry Funk got #1 this year to the surprise of me & many others. I think this helped soften the blow of some of the other results this time around. I was going to write about how not to take these things too seriously or how only your list is the one that matters. Forget it. People want to get mad or want to be validated. That's what the internet is for anymore. I'm not going to change that. I'm not into that though. I guess that's why I didn't put a list together. Anyhow, I am pretty i

These two are destroying each other! This is a great NOAH 6-man that has been overlooked with the passage of time. They go 11 minutes and its high quality, high impact wrestling. Big recommendation for old school ROH fans. Naomichi Marufuji & Kota Ibushi vs KENTA & Taiji Ish

Spotlight: Zero One Wrestling - 05/29/08

Hello fellow wrestling dorks! DVD viewing time and I'm watching more Zero One. •Yujiro & Tetsuya Naito v Osamu Namiguchi & Shito Ueda: Pretty fun little match. Simple but effective tag wrestling. Seriously, U.S. wrestling should just aim for this instead of over complicating everything. •Takao Omori v Kohei Sato: I'm not sure how this was edited time wise. Maybe half was shown of 10 minutes. What we got was enjoyable stuff.  •Daisuke Sekimoto v Kamikaze: 7 of 11 minutes. Holy co
