Weekly Wrap Up

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA, Classic UK wrestling, ROH & more!

AAA Octagoncito, Mascarita Sagrada &Mascarita Divina vs. Minis Abismo Negro, Psicosis & Chessman (05/21/09): The AAA minis have yet to disappoint. Bell to bell acrobatic action. Now I can't say I could pick one match from the next BUT for a weekly or biweekly lucha viewing, that's not a problem. Gato Eveready/Fabi Apache/Pimpinela Escarlata vs. Billy Boy/Sexy Star/Polvo de Estrellas (05/21/09): This feud/program is so entertaining. This match wasn't so much about the hate as much

More Psycho September: AWA, ECW & more!

I wanted to get a few more matches in this week but was busy. So, I think I'm going to find some time for 'em this weekend and will either add them to this post or make a mid week post before the month runs out. Stay tuned 🙂   AWA Big John Studd vs Mad Dog Vachon (12/25/80): Good, good old school fight. There's some real moments of greatness here. And despite this being a rough & tumble match there's some nice technical maneuvers towards the end.  Cleveland All Pro Wrestl

Psycho September Continues! ECW, WCW & more!

AAA Abismo Negro, Charly Manson, Electro Shock, and Histeria vs AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Homicide & Low Ki (Verano de Escándalo 2006 TV): Really awesome start but probably went on longer than it needed to. As time went on it was clear how team TNA out classed Los Vipers...not just kayfabe but also in actual skill. Abismo Negro & Histeria down the road looked like they should have been in the same ring with the TNA guys. There's a link for the video but its not worth sharing IMO. Not a bad

Psycho September: AWA, ECW, WWF & more!

Psycho September is looking at some of wrestling's most notable crazy-men. Truthfully, this gimmick has a ton of variation so I'm using it as a chance to watch some of my favorites and some guys I haven't seen enough of. AWA Mad Dog Vachon vs Jerry Blackwell (05/22/83): We get the last 5 minutes only but they're great five minutes. Mad Dog is drilling Jerry with punches. Very intense stuff with fantastic selling by the big man Blackwell. An easy 5 minutes of old school brawling that you w

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA, Classic UK, ECW & NJPW

AAA 04/21/09 Mascarita Sagrada, Octagoncito & Mascarita Divina vs. Minis Abismo Negro, Psicosis & Histeria: An absolute moves filled blast! I see Triple A minis, I watch them. Rarely do they disappoint! Aero Star, Súper Fly, Argenis vs. Tigre Cota, Río Bravo, Tito Santana: More spectacular high speed lucha action. Aero Star & Super Fly continue to "wow!"  Pimpinela Escarlata, Gato Eveready & Crazy Boy vs. El Brazo, Decnnis & Black Abyss: Another really entert

Awesome August! Classic UK, FMW, NJPW

Classic UK wrestling Ritchie Brooks vs Ian McGregor (08/27/88): Not familiar with either guy but this was a scrappy contest. A single pin or submission match so the near falls went a long way. I REALLY LIKED this one. Going to keep an eye out for both. FMW W*ing Kanemura vs Masato Tanaka (08/02/97): Electrified Barb wire match. 13 minutes of death match wrestling done right! They had a great match and worked in some nice spots with the gimmick. They weren't crazy with most just being

Awesome August! AJPW, Classic UK, CMLL, FMW

AJPW Gladiator (Mike Awesome) & Maunakea Mosman vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama 08/21/99, 08/22 TV): 9 of 13 minutes shown. What an AWESOME release German suplex!!! Big moves & believable near falls. RECOMMENDED Classic UK Wrestling Vic Faulkner vs Steve Grey (08/25/76): 15 minutes of technical wrestling and humor. People use the term "work rate" as a pejorative but I don't think about it that way. So when I say this is a work rate match, I mean that as a testament to V

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA & IWA Japan

AAA Cruiserweight Tournament 2009 Joe Lider vs Nicho (Psicosis): Absolute bonkers move fest where at least 3 of the moves should have ended this. That said, both guys are known for this style so this truly was a battle of two crazies. Super fun! Xtreme Tiger vs Crazy Boy: Fun stuff, Tiger does a Corkscrew super Quebrada to the floor & hits it perfectly! Super Fly vs Laredo Kid: Actually resembled traditional lucha libre 🙂 Plus it told a good story with a post match angle.

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA & WCW

AAA 07/05/00 in Tokyo Octagoncito VS Mini Abismo Negro: Two of my favorite AAA minis and they didn't disappoint! A spectacular display of acrobatics and athletics. They had a couple flubs right at the end because they were pushing themselves so hard for the previous 7 minutes. But its no matter because they did their job and kicked off the show with a bang! Elimination Match: Psicosis II & Maniaco & Histeria vs. Aguayo & Alebrijo & Path Finder vs. Naomichi Marufuji

Weekly Wrap Up: AAA, CMLL & NJPW

AAA I found a great source for 2009 lucha libre and have been digging into that for the last week or so. I've been watching AAA since there's less available than CMLL and thus an easier project to devote time to. Also the energy & vibe is much more American style wrestling so it's a super easy thing to watch. It reminds me of ECW in a way with many of the story lines and segments intertwining. I'm cherry picking as usual and only giving recommendations for the matches that I think deser

Weekly Wrap Up: AJW, Classic UK, Lucha & NJPW

AAA J.Liger, T. Mask III , HD Santo & Octagón vs La Parka, Psicosis, B. Panther & E. Guerrero (05/15/94): Fun stuff with a lot of stars in the match. 1st & 3rd falls were best. Jushin Liger and Eddie Guerrero were the standouts for their teams. Tiger Kanemoto was in quite a bit but looked just OK. He's already good as himself in '92 but he's not a Tiger Mask except for his kicks. Psicosis also is pretty good here - taking crazy bumps. Highlights of the match are the dives. Makes me

Weekly Wrap Up: AJPW, CMLL, NJPW & more!

AJPW Watched "The Patriot" matches because I like a gimmick and it's almost 4th of July in the States... seemed like a good one..plus I have been meaning to watch more midcard AJPW 90's. Most/all of these are joined in progress. I LIKED them all but maybe you'll see one here that looks more interesting than others. vs Kenta Kobashi (06/03/92): An offensive move display from both. Good near falls. w/ Kobashi vs Dr. Death & Terry Gordy (09/05/92): Damn! This was really good! Ext

Weekly Wrap Up: AJW, Classic UK wrestling & NJPW

AJW •Esther Moreno & Suzuka Minami & Yumiko Hotta vs. Debbie Malenko & Mika Takahashi & Miori Kamiya (06/05/91 - 06/30 TV): Esther stole the show with her moves. Mika had a couple good ones too. Everyone looked good. Nice quick pace, super easy watch. RECOMMENDED •Debbie Malenko & Suzuka Minami & Yumiko Hotta vs. Mariko Yoshida & Takako Inoue & Toshiyo Yamada (06/05/92 - 06/22 TV): Everyone did something interesting & although no one stood out, the w
