The Queen of Ring of Honor Wrestling, Many would say, Veda Scott has been named the Special Guest Referee of the NWA Womens Championship Match between Amber Gallows (Amber O'Neal) vs. Jessica James at the Parade of Champions in Fort Worth, Tx. A very interesting development. Veda is in contention for a Championship Match, and she's battled both Gallows & James all over the country. Veda Scott at The Parade of Champions to officiate the Championship Match between Gallows & Jessica James. plus Greg Anthony will defend the NWA National title against the winner of a battle royal to take place earlier in the evening.

I so enjoyed this match. I've always been a big Brody fan and and this is one of the matches where he showed he is more than just a big guy that beats people up. It was also showcased some of Bockwinkel's real skill at lifting his opponent.

Dalton is very underrated. He can get a crowd worked up like few can.

If you watch that finish though, there were some mitigating circumstances, Dory was jawing with the ref and Harley blind-sided him and kicked him in the gut before the suplex. It was a sucker punch. Not only before that Dory had given Harley his trademark butterfly suplex (which was never a finisher). I have seen Harley end other matches with a vertical suplex, but he often puts a delay on it. He also throws all sorts of bombs in his matches that don't result in falls. As did Dory, and various other 70s workers. Not saying your point is entirely untrue, just that it can be overstated sometimes. The butterfly suplex was earlier in the match. Yes, he did kick him from the side int he stomach and hit him with elbow to the back of the neck and clubbing forearm to the neck back, none of which were uncommon, he then did a vertical suplex, no delay, and got the pin. (Dory won with title with a spinning toe hold) Anyway, my point was it was not uncommon for simple pinning combinations to be used then.

NWA Combat Pro Results, Jan 16th 2016 The show opened with Commissioners Travis Edgeworth & Aeon Flexx introducing the new title belts to replace the current titles in place from prior to Combat Sport joining as an NWA affiliate. The current Combat Sport Champion, Ryan Oshun, came out and was presented with the NWA Gulf Coast Heavyweight Championship, to replace the now retired Combat Sport Championship. Oshun discussed the history of the title belt and what it meant to be affiliated and aligned with so many former great champions, and then called out his opponent for the main event that night, Lucha Locura. Locura came out and the two got into a scuffle right before Oshun got out of the ring with his championship. The main event that night was then announced as Oshun defending his NWA Gulf Coast Heavyweight Championship against Locura in a "Anything Goes" match. Jodan vs. Darius Cain The first match of the evening was a singles match between Jodan & Darius Cain. Back and forth match but in the end, with assistance from his tag team partner Rob Love (who was ringside for the match), Jodan was able to score a victory via pinfall. The Dirty Blondes (Michael Patrick & Leo Brian) vs Alex Del Guercio & Airman Banks In what was Del Guercio's wrestling debut, himself and Airman Banks started off strong against The Dirty Blondes. However, the inexperience of Del Guercio came through when The Dirty Blondes were able to overcome and really put punishment on the newcomer, while Airman Banks could do nothing but stand on the apron and watch. Finally, Del Guercio was able to make a tag to Banks, who came in hot, but was eventually overcome by the Blondes, who were able to hit a devastating spike pile driver on Banks followed by Leo Brian covering Banks for the pinfall. Ox Haney vs. Xtian Blake Two men with a bit of a history from NWA Elite Championship Wrestling in Houma, LA squared off in the third match of the evening. Ox Haney was extremely aggressive throughout the match seeming to get the better of Blake for the duration of the match. However, in the end, Blake was able to come back and score a big pinfall victory after a knee strike to the head of Ox Haney. After the match, Leo Brian w/ Michael Patrick came out and attacked Xtian Blake. Without explanation, after the attack, Patrick and Brian left Xtian laying in the ring while they retreated back to the locker room area. Cameron Thomas vs. Rob Love vs. Saiko Gato This match was to crown a #1 contender to compete for the NWA Gulf Coast Junior Heavyweight Championship and was an elimination style match. The match was evenly split until Rob Love's tag partner Jodan (ringside), tried to interfere. Referee Curt Diamond ejected Jodan and their manager from the ringside area. While Love argued with Curt Diamond about the ejection, Saiko Gato was able to spin Love and hit him with a shot of mist from his mouth, leading to a pinfall eliminating Rob Love. When it was just Cameron Thomas and Gato left, Thomas was able to overcome and pin Gato for the win. Purple Haze vs. John Saxon (NWA National Heavyweight Champion) Purple Haze came out first and complained about the match for that evening. He was upset that it was set up as a non-title match and felt he was entitled to a shot at the NWA National Heavyweight Championship because of his current tenure as one half of the NWA Elite Tag Team Champions. John Saxon came out and had no problem putting his National Championship up for grabs, telling Purple Haze he was going to shut his entitled mouth once and for all. Haze attempted to set a chair up in the corner to toss Saxon in, however, Saxon was able to counter and Haze's plan backfired as he himself was sent head first into the chair, allowing John Saxon to roll him back into a pinfall for the victory to retain his NWA National Heavyweight Championship. Lucha Locura vs. Ryan Oshun (NWA Gulf Coast Heavyweight Champion) Oshun and Locura battled all throughout the venue while a rowdy crowd cheered on. Throughout multiple chair shots, trash can blows, and heavy striking, neither man was staying down to get pinned. After nearly 20 min. of action, Lucha Locura was able to hit not one, but two superkicks in a row on Oshun, who went down hard from the blows. Locura then hit a frog splash off the top rope, which was followed by a pin on Oshun declaring Lucha Locura the new NWA Gulf Coast Heavyweight Champion. After the match, The Dirty Blondes came back out ringside and surrounded Locura in the ring with Oshun. As the three men looked at the newly crowned Champion, Oshun bailed down as Brian and Patrick came in and attacked Locura. With Locura down, Patrick took his belt and held it over a fallen Locura, before placing it back over him and walking to the back, ending the show.

I actually liked that fact. One of the things i hate about wrestling is how spike DDT can be kicked out of but being slammed off a guys shoulders leads to a pin. I agree with that. I just thought a back drop wasn't a finish that would put Gordy out for a 3 count. Don't forget the elbow. Bruno Sammartino use to win matches with body slams. Harley Race won the NWA title the first time with an ordinary suplex. In World Class,Jimmy Garvin never had a finisher. It was a simpler time.

Wrestling is the only one I know of that an organization doesn't use the same belt. Look at MMA and Boxing: WBC world belts are the same. UFC all belts are the same. Having similar belts helps branding.

It's such a big area there is a lot of "local" talent that can get overlooked.

Congratulations to John Saxon on winning the National Title
