  1. Koshinaka was a one off challenger, as was Naoki Sano earlier in the month. There will be one more special challenger at the Winnipeg show.
  2. Buddy Rose seems like a natural fit.
  3. Just checking in again, in a bit of a push to get caught up before I am on vacation but am optimistic that will get up to posting my holiday shows. I will be cutting posting my Sunday shows (I'll just say they took place but didn't get reported) and should have the other shows up in the next couple of days. I've missed out on the discussion of our new territory but just wanted to mention that, since I had been running Portland shows as part of my regular circuit, I will instead be running shows from Seattle in that part of my run and hope that does not interfere with anything anyone is doing. Welcome to the group, awesomemiz, I am sure you will do amazing things.
  4. AWA Show from the Mecca, Milwaukee, June 20th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) Greg Gagne vs. Fit Finlay Finlay won with the belly to belly piledriver Tom Zenk vs. The Great Kabuki Kabuki was going for the thrust kick, but Zenk ducked under it and caught him with a roll up (assisted by a fistful of tights) for the tainted pinfall Mike Rotundo vs. Kevin Sullivan Rotundo pinned Sullivan after the All-Star Rush Nord The Barbarian & Cactus Jack vs. The Youngbloods Cactus hit a Russian Legsweep on Blackman, followed by a running Bombs Away kneedrop by Nord to get the victory for the Snakepit Brian Pillman vs. Doug Somers Pillman won with a top rope flying dropkick Jake Roberts vs. Bill Dundee Roberts finished off Dundee with the DDT AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. The British Bullies When Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie started to interfere in the match, Chris Adams charged out and attacked the Bullies, leading to a DQ finish. The Razor Boys, still having not forgiven Adams for his past attack on Sunshine, left him alone in the ring where he took a lot of punishment from the other three men, until Ronnie Garvin rushed in and sent the Syndicate members flying with the Hands Of Stone Punch. Garvin then helped Adams out of the ring and to the back. AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Bob Orton Before the match started, Ken Patera and Jerry Blackwell attacked Spivey, doing more damage to his injured arm. Before it got to the point where the ref would call the match off, Roddy Piper, Buzz Sawyer and Sabu came out, wielding chairs, and told Patera and Blackwell to step away or face the consequences. Their interest was less in sportsmanship and rather making sure their man Orton got his shot at the title. The badly hurt Spivey put in a valiant effort but had taken too much damage, and Orton wound up hitting the Superplex to give him the American title, bringing the first gold into the hands of Piper’s Pit. AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs Shiro Koshinaka Once again, Tanaka was defending his title against one of the exciting superstars of Japan. What took place was a thrilling bout that ended when Tanaka blocked a German Suplex attempt, then reversed it into a legsweep followed by a single leg grapevine in the middle of the ring that forced Koshinaka to give up the match. AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Sabu Steamboat certainly had his hands full with the out of control Sabu but ultimately was able to catch him in the top rope flying cross body press to successfully defend his title
  5. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 20th Fit Finlay vs. Bradley Kleihege Although they may have recently lost the AWA Southern Tag Team titles, the members of Black Irish are just as dangerous as ever, both individually and as a team. The rookie Kleihege tried to get in some quick offense at the start against the Belfast Brawler, but when he botched a leapfrog by landing on the back of Finlay’s neck, this brought out the rage in the Irishman. Finlay battered the rookie’s face with brutal punches and clobbered him with incredibly hard clotheslines befor finishing him off with a piledriver that dropped Kleihege right on his head. Clearly, Finlay is not somebody to be messed with. The Can-Am Express vs. Nick Bockwinkel & Masa Saito Bock and Saito (along with Larry Z) recently won the Six Man Tag Team Titles from the Guerreros recently, and Larry was with them at rinside, title belt worn prominently around his waist, as they took on the up and coming Can-Am Express . Furnas and Lafon put up a game effort, but in the end, the experience of their opponents turned out to be just too much for them, as Saito was able to make Lafon give up to the Jailhouse Lock. You would have thought that Larry had won the match, all by himself, the way he was crowing after the match. Interview : Ken Resnick stands in the ring Resnick : Ladies and gentlemen , my next guest has a lot to answer for after his most recent actions … Jake “The Snake” Roberts! The crowd explodes into boos as Roberts makes his way to the ring, followed by Nord The Barbarian and Cactus Jack. Cactus starts pacing around the ring while Nord stands impassively behind Roberts. Resnick : Jake Roberts, many people are appalled at your recent attack on young Shane Douglas before your match with him and Bill Dundee last week, giving him the DDT on the concrete. What gives? Roberts : Simply a message, Resnick. Nothing more, nothing less. The Snakepit has been taken for granted lately. There’s been a loss of focus. Losing to Dundee and Douglas was a wake up call for the Snakepit. And now the Snakepit has given our own wakeup call to the AWA. Look past us, and it could be the last mistake you ever make. Resnick : But surely, you should be saving your anger for Roddy Piper and his men, who have been giving you so much trouble for the past while! Roberts : Oh, Piper’s time will come, don’t worry about that. But Piper has taught me a vital lesson. Perhaps I should thank him. I’m not going, but the lesson was learned. I’ve been trying too hard to walk both sides of the path, to compromise. All the while, Piper has just been skating past me, without a care for anyone but himself. Well, the time has come to stop treating my enemies like they were worth saving. Four simple words, Resnick : No More Half Measures. From now on, you will never know where and when the Snakepit will strike. The only warning you will get … will be the realization that it is too late. With that, Roberts swiftly grabbed Ken Resnick … and drilled his head into the mat with a DDT! The crowd member’s mouths hung open in shock as the members of the Snakepit left the unconscious body of Resnick lying in the middle of the ring. AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. Death Sentence The team of Jeff Gaylord and Maxx Payne have been brutalizing their way through the opposition and have torn a path right to a World Tag Title shot. They went right at it, savagely attacking the champs, but Diamond and Perez have faced incredibly tough challenges to their belts, and fought back just as hard. The match was just starting to fully get in gear when the Sheepherders charged to the ring and assaulted both sides, leading to the match being thrown out . All was chaos until AWA security was finally able to clear the ring. Tom Zenk vs. Steve Blackman Zenk has been on an impressive roll ever since turning his back on the Can-Am Express, and brought that momentum into his match with one half of the Youngbloods. Blackman was able to give Zenk a tough challenge, catching him off guard at several points with his martial arts kicks and takedowns into submission holds. But ultimately, Zenk was able to hit the Superkick and put Blackman down for good. After the match, Zenk was pointing at his waist, indicating that he was through with the preliminaries and wanted to challenge for one of the various AWA title belts. The Cobra Corps vs. Buddy Rose, Doug Somers & Col. Debeers This match never got out of the starting blocks. As the Corps were on their way to the ring, they were ambushed from behind by all four members of Playboy After Dark, including Leo Burke, who were wielding chairs. They took out Sarge first, but Debeers really went to town on Leon White, blasting him with several vicious chairshots before driving him hard headfirst into the ring steps. He left White in a mangled heap at ringside and joined the rest of his crew in the ring as they beat down Too Cold Scorpio, but this is where the story took an incredibly bizarre turn. While the four on one attack went on in the ring and Sarge was out of action, Roddy Piper, of all people, came to the ring, with the rest of Piper’s Pit in tow. He ordered Orton, Sawyer and Sabu to pick up the unconscious body of Leon White and drag him to the back with them, and none of them were seen for the rest of the night. What nefarious scheme is Piper up to?
  6. AWA show from McArthur Court, Eugene, June 16th The Can-Am Express vs. The British Bullies Taylor was attempting the British Suplex on Furnas, but Furnas powered out with a bridge that got the one two three Falls Count Anywhere Match : Cactus Jack vs. Sabu Cactus won with a piledriver on the concrete Bill Dundee vs. Tom Zenk Dundee hit a running cross body bress, but Zenk rolled through with a fistful of tights to get the win Chris Adams vs. Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie Adams won with the Superkick Death Sentence vs. The Sheepherders Both teams brawled to a double DQ finish Brian Pillman vs. Leo Burke Pillman faked going for the Air Pillman, and when Burke ducked, Pillman wound up hitting him with a top rope missile dropkick for the pinfall Jake Roberts & Nord The Barbarian vs. The Youngbloods Nord hit a running Bombs Away kneedrop on Blackman for the victory Sgt. Slaughter vs. Col. Debeers Sarge won by countout after he hit the Slaughter Cannon on Debeers sending him flying out of the ring Larry Zybyszko vs. The Great Kabuki Kabuki got the win with a thrust kick to the jaw Mike Rotundo & Dan Spivey vs. Jerry Blackwell & Ken Patera Blackwell crushed Rotundo with a power slam for the win Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Rocky Mountain Thunder White knocked out Rose with a spinning back fist AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Fit Finlay Both men went to a 30 minute time limit draw
  7. AWA show from the Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, June 15th Chris Adams vs. Chavo Guerrero Adams won with a Superkick Leo Burke vs. Brian Pillman Pillman was going for the Air Pillman, but Burke spotted it and tackled him through the ropes to the outside. Both men ended up counted out of the ring. The Can-Am Express vs. The British Bullies A hot technical bout that Jones won by pinning Lafon with a takeover suplex The Great Kabuki vs. Nick Bockwinkel Bock was attempting a figure four leglock, which Kabuki countered with a small package, but Bock in turn countered with his own small package to get the one two three Tom Zenk vs. Too Cold Scorpio Scorpio was going for a top rope splash, but Zenk crotched him on the top rope, and followed up with a superplex for the win AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Buzz Sawyer A hard hitting bout that ended when Garvin put Sawyer away with a piledriver AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. Black Irish Perez and Finlay were engaging in dueling suplex attempts when Perez was ultimately able to hit the German Suplex to retain their titles 2/3 Falls Match : Ricky Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter & Leon White vs. Buddy Rose, Doug Somers & Col. Debeers 1st Fall : Steamboat pinned Somers after a top rope flying cross body press 2nd Fall : White was going for an avalanche on Rose in the corner, but Rose ducked out of the way, then caught him in a roll up with a fistful of tights for the pinfall 3rd Fall : Rose was attempting the Inside Out Backbreaker on White, but White jackhammered him in the face with an elbow smash, then hit a chokeslam to win the match
  8. AWA show from the Cow Palace, San Francisco, June 14th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) Death Sentence vs. The Youngbloods Death Sentence finished off Wellington with the Execution AWA Six Man Tag Team Title Match : The Guerreros © vs. Nick Bockwinkel, Masa Saito and Larry Zybyszko Larry savate kicked Mando into a Saito Suplex to get the win. Bock, Saito and Larry Z are the new AWA Six Man Tag Team Champs. Falls Count Anywhere Match : Sabu vs. Cactus Jack Cactus pulled up the mats from ringside and hit a Russian Legsweep on the concrete for the victory Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo vs. Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell Patera pinned Rotundo after a shoulder breaker Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas vs. Jake Roberts & Nord The Barbarian In a shocking turn of events, Roberts and Nord ambushed their opponents before the match and Roberts hit the DDT on Douglas on the exposed concrete at ringside. From there, Dundee put in a valiant effort trying to fight off both men, but it was too much , and Nord hit him with a kneedrop from the top rope to end the match. After the match ended, Roberts hit Dundee with the DDT for good measure. AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : British Steel © vs. Black Irish Cameron was attempting a running power slam on Smiley, but Smiley broke out of it with a slide down his back and caught Cameron with a rollup for the one two three AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Marty Jones Garvin won by DQ when he was attacked by David Taylor. Sheikh and the Bullies then beat down Garvin before Chris Adams charged to the ring, swinging a chair, and ran them off AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Brian Pillman Pillman got his rematch in what many say was the best match of the night. Pillman hit a top rope sunset flip, but Tanaka rolled through it and got the pinfall to retain his title. Both men shook hands and embraced after the match AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat vs. ?? ?? Steamboat looked determined as he readied himself to face his mystery opponent, while Piper looked like the proverbial cat that ate the canary. He then introduced the challenger … Bam Bam Bigelow! What ensued was a crazy match with Steamboat breaking out every trick in his book to contain the huge Bigelow, until Bigelow headbutted the ref in the face for the DQ. Both men kept fighting long after the match.
  9. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 13th Col. Debeers vs. Greg Gagne Debeers was coming in with a heavily taped shoulder from an injury he sustained in a match with Sgt. Slaughter in Detroit. The veteran Gagne did everything he could to take advantage of that, wrenching the arm in a series of armwringers and peppering him with dropkicks. His luck ran out when he whipped Debeers into the corner and charged in, only to catch a face full of the Colonel’s boot. Several hard knees to the midsection and a second rope kneedrop, followed by a face first piledriver that dropped him right on his head, and that was the end of Gagne’s challenge. Pat Tanaka & The Razor Boys vs. Tom Zenk & Death Sentence While Tanaka and the Razor Boys have been dominant as Southern champion and World Tag champs, respectively, Zenk and Death Sentence have been presenting strong challenges to those titles. The Neighborhood Of Evil were incredibly aggressive in this match, with a plethora of double and triple teaming. The Sunshine Boys fought back hard, and were rallying when Paul Diamond had Jeff Gaylord trapped in a neutral corner and was standing on the second turnbuckle , raining punches down on his face. However, Tom Zenk took advantage of a ref distraction and grabbed Diamond by the hair and drove him, face first, on the corner post. Gaylord then covered him with his feet on the ropes, getting the one two three. Diamonds partners cried foul, but the decision stood. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Rocky Mountain Thunder Playboy After Dark have had some tough battles with the various members of the Cobra Corps, but after recent events, seem to be scared to death of big Leon White. They put a lot of effort into keeping him out of the ring, relentlessly double teaming Scorpio and trapping him in their corner. Several times it looked like Scorpio might be able to tag out, only for Rose and Somers to distract the ref or prevent the tag in some other way. White finally had enough and charged into the ring, and when the ref tried to send him out, White backhanded him and sent him flying into the corner. As White pummeled Rose and Somers, the ref eventually recovered enough to call for the DQ, but the former Colorado Buffalo didn’t seem to notice as he tore into the members of Playboy After Dark. It took both Too Cold Scorpio and Sgt. Slaughter to get White calmed down and out of the ring. Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas vs. Jake Roberts & Nord The Barbarian Dundee and Douglas have been gaining momentum of late, picking up some impressive victories over the Guerreros in singles action and even a tag victory over Roberts and Barbarian at a recent house show. The Snakepit, on the other hand, have experienced mounting frustration, not just with the loss to Dundee and Douglas but having failed to get a decisive victory over Piper’s Pit. This was a fast paced and competitive match, with the speed and enthusiasm of Dundee and Douglas providing a tough counter for the guile and power of Snake and Barbarian. After Roberts spent a long time in the ring trying to best his opposition, it looked like they would decisively take the lead when he tagged in the huge Barbarian, but out of nowhere, Dundee hit a running cross body press combined with a schoolboy trip from Douglas that scored the shocking pinfall. While Dundee and Douglas celebrated, Roberts just sat in the corner and stared blankly at Nord. AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : British Steel © vs. The British Bullies The popular young team of Steven Regal and Norman Smiley pulled off an impressive upset last week by taking the Southern Tag straps away from Black Irish. This time, they would be defending against the incredibly tough tandem of David Taylor and Marty Jones, led by Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie. In spite of the considerable technical expertise of the Bullies, British Steel kept the momentum of the match in their favour for a long period of time before some interference by the Sheikh tipped it over to his men. Jones and Taylor than proceeded to start to work over Smiley, but they didn’t have much time to do it before someone charged into the ring and attacked them, leading to a DQ decision. It was Chris Adams, who hadn’t been seen since being beaten down and fired by the Sheikh and his men 2 weeks ago! He tore into his former compatriots, but 3 against 1 would prove to be too great odds to overcome, and British Steel, no fans of Adams, swiftly left the ring and abandoned him to his fate. The Syndicate pounded on him again and the Bullies held him up while the Sheikh looked to take him out for good with a chair shot to the head, but Adams stopped him with a boot to the midsection, then pulled himself free from the grasp of Taylor and Jones. He grabbed the chair and swung it wildly, sending the Syndicate scurrying back to the locker room. Adams was able to make it out this time, but how much longer can he hold out, with no friends to back him up? AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Jerry Blackwell Spivey , similar to Col. Debeers, was going into the match with a heavily taped arm, and that provided a particularly tempting target for the Crusher. Blackwell went after the damaged arm mercilessly with slams and arm bars, and Spivey was clearly in a lot of pain for much of this match. The determined American champ kept battling back, and was able to send Blackwell out of the ring with a left armed Spivey Bomber. Blackwell landed hard and was not able to get back into the ring in time, leading to a countout victory by the champ. Even after the match, Blackwell and his partner, Ken Patera, kept attacking Spivey. Patera held Spivey down with his arm outstretched, and Blackwell looked to do a running splash on it, which might well have done irreparable damage to it. Luckily for Spivey, his partner, Mike Rotundo, rushed to the ring and prevented the blow from landing, but the ordeal had still taken a heavy toll on the American champ.
  10. AWA show from the Crisler Center, Ann Arbor, June 8th The Youngbloods vs. Mando & Hector Guerrero Hector pinned Blackman with the Guerrero Clutch Too Cold Scorpio vs. Chavo Guerrero Chavo won with a moonsault The Can-Am Express vs. The British Bullies Furnas dropkicked Jones into a Cobra Clutch Suplex by Lafon Brian Pillman vs. Leo Burke Burke ducked under the Air Pillman, but Pillman shifted in mid-air and caught Burke in a slingshot sunset flip to get the pinfall Mike Rotundo vs. Maxx Payne Both men went to a double countout while brawling at ringside Jake Roberts & Nord the Barbarian vs. Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas Roberts was about to hit the DDT on Dundee, but Dundee wrapped him up in a small package to get the upset win AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Doug Somers Tanaka knocked out Somers with a rolling wheel kick AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : British Steel © vs. Black Irish In a wild rematch, Regal was able to hit the Regal Roll on Finlay to retain their titles AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Jeff Gaylord Gaylord went after Spivey’s wounded arm, but Spivey was able to duck under the lariat and come back with the Big Dan Boot followed by the Big Dan Legdrop to get the hard fought victory
  11. AWA show from Cobo Hall, Detroit , June 7th The Can-Am Express, Bill Dundee & Shane Douglas vs. Kevin Sullivan, Tom Zenk & Death Sentence Death Sentence hit the Execution on Douglas to score the victory Rocky Mountain Thunder vs. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers White got the pinfall after a shoulder breaker on Somers Jake Roberts & Nord The Barbarian vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero Mando Guerrero snuck in the ring and attacked Nord, setting him up for the top rope flying somersault senton by Chavo that got the win for the brothers Cactus Jack vs. Sabu Sabu hit a moonsault that got the pin Ron Garvin & The Youngbloods vs. Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie & The British Bullies Taylor pinned Wellington with the British Suplex Col. Debeers & Sgt. Slaughter Debeers was going for a lariat on the outside, but Sarge ducked it and Debeers went into the turnbuckle post. Sarge was able to make it back into the ring to win by countout AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. Larry Zbyszko & Masa Saito An intense battle where Diamond was just barely able to hit the flying back bodypress to get the three count AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Bob Orton Once again, Roddy Piper was at ringside. Orton went at it hard with Steamboat and was looking to put him away with a piledriver, but Steamboat was able to catch him in an inside cradle and pull out the victory. After the match, Piper challenged Steamboat to defend the title next week in San Francisco against a challenger of his choosing , a challenge that Steamboat accepted
  12. AWA show from the Met Center, Bloomington, June 6th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards) Tom Zenk vs. Greg Gagne Zenk won with the Sleeper Hold Leo Burke vs. Brian Pillman Burke won with a belly to back suplex Dan Spivey & Mike Rotundo vs. Jerry Blackwell & Ken Patera Patera pinned Spivey after a shoulder breaker on his damaged right arm The Cobra Corps vs. Buddy Rose, Doug Somers & Col. DeBeers White knocked out Rose with a spinning back fist Death Sentence vs. The Sheepherders A crazy brawl with both teams going to a double DQ AWA Southern Title Match : Pat Tanaka © vs. Naoki Sano An incredible technical match up with Tanaka defending his title against one of the hot rising stars from Japan. Sano had Tanaka set up for a Tiger Suplex, but Tanaka stopped it with a back kick, followed by a rollup for the one two three AWA Southern Tag Team Title Match : Black Irish © vs. British Steel Cameron bullied Smiley for much of the match, but this led to him walking into Regal’s Iron Fist Punch, setting him up for a crucifix by Smiley that got the pinfall. British Steel won the AWA Southern Tag Team Titles. AWA World Title Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Buzz Sawyer Sawyer battered Steamboat heavily throughout this match and was going for a German Suplex, but Steamboat reversed it into a Tiger Suplex to succefully defend his title.
  13. One of the many things that I love about my roster is that I have a bunch of guys (Garvin, Taylor, Jones, Burke, Kabuki, Saito, Adams) that have the legit toughness to throw serious leather and can be counted on to provide a trial by fire for the rookies or super stiff matches with each other.
  14. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for June 6th The Great Kabuki vs. Masa Saito Last week, Kabuki got the better of Larry Zbyszko in their match together. This time out, Zbyszko, still clad in his karate gi, was a constant presence at ringside for his partner’s match with Saito. He proceeded to take an interest in Sunshine throughout the match, which proved to be a distraction for Kabuki, something he definitely didn’t need in dealing with a tough competitor like Saito. It got to the point where Kabuki went outside the ring to intercede, but when Larry started jawing with him, this just gave Saito the opportunity to sneak up on him and hit the Saito Suplex on the outside. This led to Saito getting the win by countout. The sinister pair then continued to menace Sunshine, who pulled out her nunchaku to defend herself, but the Razor Boys came out to rescue their manager and stable mate. Leon White vs. Doug Somers The conflict between the Cobra Corps and Playboy After Dark has escalated of late, and both factions were at ringside as the powerful rookie White faced off against the veteran Somers. Somers seemed to take delight in taunting White while dodging out of the way of his blows, taking advantage of his own ring savvy and scouting out White’s moves before he made them. The strong but awkward White kept trying to challenge Somers, but Somers kept slipping out of his grasp as he tormented him. Somers ended up going to the well once to often as he stopped to jeer at Sgt. Slaughter and Too Cold Scorpio over how he was making a fool of their comrade, only for White to grab him by his peroxide blonde hair and pull him into a huge right fist that put him crosseyed. White followed with a wild, flailing spinning backfist that leveled Somers before finishing him off with a crushing power slam. Sarge and Scorpio enthusiastically congratulated their partner on his impressive win, but White didn’t seem to be paying them any mind. Death Sentence vs. Joel Klug & Dirk Been As they came out, Kevin Sullivan declared to the camera that he was tired of playing around, that the Varsity Club were dead and that from now on, the AWA would have to deal with the Neighborhood Of Evil. Klug and Been clearly regretted stepping foot in the Neighborhood as Gaylord and Payne mangled them through out the match , hitting both men with the Execution before Payne force Klug to the Payne Killer while Gaylord trapped Been in a Hangman. Sullivan and his men were clearly satisfied with themselves, but that didn’t last long as the Sheepherders, of all people, charged into the ring and attacked them. Butch and Luke clearly weren’t there to save Been and Klug, as they hurled the youngsters out of the ring before continuing to do battle with Death Sentence until the AWA officials cleared them out of the ring. What exactly are the Sheepherders up to? AWA Canadian Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. David Taylor Sheikh Adnan Al-Kaissie let it be known last week (shortly before kicking Chris Adams out of the Sinister Syndicate) that he was determined to bring the Canadian Title into the Syndicate’s hands , and didn’t care which member took it. To that end, he has sent one half of the British Bullies, “Squire” David Taylor, out to challenge Ron Garvin, but still had Taylor’s partner Marty Jones by his side during the match. Some incredibly hard chops and shots were thrown in the match, along with some wrenching arm and leg locks by both men, as well as various other submission moves. Taylor was trying to get Garvin set up for the double underhook suplex, but Garvin was able to block it, then reverse it into a backslide to get the one two three. Kaissie glared at Garvin after the match, but nothing more took place. Steven Regal vs. Larry Cameron Speaking of people gunning for titles, British Steel are heating up their campaign to take the Southern Tag Team Titles from Black Irish. For this match, one member of each team would face off in singles action. The popular “Young Gentleman” Regal was taking on a powerful opponent in the former pro football player Cameron, who had yet to be pinned in AWA action. Cameron went full bore against Regal, looking to put a quick end to the challenge of his younger opponent. “Lethal” Larry unleashed his arsenal of mighty slams and power moves, but Regal would keep coming back. He finally whipped Regal into the ropes to polish him off with a huge clothesline, but Regal ducked under at the last second and came back with the Iron Fist Punch, followed by the Regal Roll. One … two … THREE!!!! Cameron couldn’t believe it as Regal was jubilant, celebrating possibly the most impressive win of his career. AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Ken Patera Spivey’s right arm was was wrapped tight in a tension bandage from the damage it had taken last week in his match with Maxx Payne, but true to his reputation as a fighting champion, was determined to honorably defend his title as he had commited. Patera, a former World as well as American champion, relentlessly went after Spivey’s arm, and the champion was clearly in considerable pain for much of the match. Despite this, Spivey kept battling back, and managed to lure Patera into the Big Dan Boot. He followed up with the Big Dan Legdrop, but before he could go for the cover, Jerry Blackwell entered the ring and attacked him, leading to the DQ. Both Patera and Blackwell battered Spivey, focusing their attention on his arm, before Mike Rotundo charged in swinging a chair and ran them off. Spivey still had the title, but at what cost?

Slaughter vs. Bam Bam Bigelow This was a true clash of titans that ended when Buddy Rose came to ringside and distracted the ref, while Col. 21. AWA show from the Winnipeg Arena, Winnipeg, May 30th (as shown on ESPN / TSN Super Cards ) The Can-Am Express vs. Chavo & Hector Guerrero Lafon went for a flying back body press on Hector, but Hector reversed it with a rollover and got the one two three Tom Zenk vs. Too Cold Scorpio Zenk put out Scorpio with a Sleeper Hold Steven Regal vs. Fit Finlay What started out as a technical match up ground down into a slugfest where Regal ultimately was able to knock out Finlay with the Iron Fist Punch Shane Douglas vs. Mando Guerrero Douglas won with a German Suplex AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Razor Boys © vs. The Sheepherders A ferocious brawl that ended in a double DQ Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell vs. Rick Martel & ?? The Syndicate were looking pretty cocky as they clearly felt confident they were more than a match for anyone Martel could bring in. Confidence turned to panic as Martel introduced his partner … Andre the Giant! The NWA Champ and the enormous 8th Wonder Of The World waged a mighty war with Patera & Blackwell which went back and forth, and finally ended when Andre flattened Patera with a lariat, followed by a slingshot splash from Martel to finally get the pinfall. AWA Canadian Title Match with no time limit : Ron Garvin © vs. Chris Adams Adams has come off a series of challenges for various titles in the AWA that have gone to the time limit, so he has demanded the stipulation for this match that the time limit be removed. He was joined at ringside by both his manager, Sheikh Adnan Al Kaissie, and the British Bullies, David Taylor and Marty Jones. Garvin was not intimidated, as he and Adams both seemed ready to go for the long haul. A feeling out process started the match, with technical wrestling and matwork. The two then engaged in a battle of chops to try to soften each other up. As the match went on, the pendulum of momentum swung back and forth, with Adams just barely avoiding the Hands Of Stone Punch and Garvin in turn dodging the Superkick. The match went past the 30 minute mark with both men going at hit full force. Adams got a number of near falls with a series of suplexes, but Garvin was always able to kick out. Adams then tried to put him away with the Superkick , but Garvin countered with a single leg takedown that seemed to particularly hurt Adams ankle. The champ then administered the Garvin Stomp before locking the challenger in the Figure Four leglock. Adams struggled mightily to get to the ropes to break the hold, but fell just short. He seemed like he was going to attempt one last push to try to escape … however, he never got the chance, as Sheikh Kaissie ordered the Bullies into the ring to attack Garvin, forcing him to break the hold. The ref had no choice but to call for the DQ, giving the match to Garvin. Adams was livid , and once he was able to pull himself to his feet, he screamed at Kaissie that he shouldn’t have interfered. Kaissie was adamant, insisting that it was his call to make, he was protecting his investment and if Adams wasn’t going to take the title, he should at least damage Garvin enough so that one of the others of the Syndicate could take it. This led to a shoving match between the two, which was cut off by David Taylor clipping Adam’s damaged leg from behind. Kaissie and the Bullies savagely beat down Adams and, no doubt due to his past behaviour and attitude, nobody came out to save the Englishman until the AWA officials flooded the ring. Adams was taken out of the ring on a stretcher. Cage Match : Jake Roberts vs. Roddy Piper A ferocious battle that led to both men being busted open. Roberts looked like he would finally get the DDT, but Piper blocked it and kicked off into a double leg takedown assisted by the cage, with both his feet on the ropes for leverage ot get the one two three. The cunning Scot had slipped through Roberts’ grasp again. AWA World Title Cage Match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Nick Bockwinkel One last classic to close out the night. Bock fought his most aggressive match yet against Steamboat yet, going after his legs to try to get him to submit to the Figure Four. Steamboat was able to battle back and managed to climb all the way up to the top of the cage, then turn around and come off it for a flying cross body press and get the pin. Many observers said this was Steamboat’s most impressive title defense yet.
  22. AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN / TSN for May 30th Larry Zbyszko vs. The Great Kabuki Larry Z has come to fancy himself a black belt of late, wearing a headband and karate gi to the ring. Even though Larry had Masa Saito in his corner, Kabuki didn’t seem particularly impressed by either his moves or his gear. Kabuki laced into Larry with vicious kicks, and after a tentative attempt to match him with his own karate kicks, Larry spent most of the match back pedaling and stalling. He managed to get a momentary advantage a few times by taking some cheap shots, but this ended up drawing him in close enough for a brutal round kick to the head, followed by a piledriver that put an end to the match. After the match, Saito gave Kabuki the hard stare, but Kabuki just gave it right back. Chris Adams vs. Biff Wellington This would be the last stop for Adams before his big challenge for Ron Garvin’s AWA Canadian Title. Last week, Adams faced one half of the Youngbloods in Steve Blackman, and now he would take on Blackman’s partner Wellington. This wound up being a tight technical match up, with a lot of matwork and suplex attempts. It was ultimately a belly to back suplex by Adams that wound up giving him the one two three. After the match, Adams shook hands with Wellington. An impressive win, but Adams has a tough challenge ahead of him in trying to take the Canadian championship from Garvin. Leo Burke vs. Brian Pillman Pillman has had a lot of strong victories ever since leaving the Varsity Club, but the veteran Burke would prove to be no pushover. Burke skillfully avoided being drawn into Pillman’s fast paced offense, instead catching the fomer Bengal in several submission holds to try to break down the youngster. Pillman kept fighting out of it, blasting Burke with several hard chops, but Burke would not be held back for long. Burke came very close on a number of occasions to locking Pillman in the Sleeper hold, and while Pillman was always able to break out, it would take a lot out of him. The two were still slugging it out in the corner when the bell rang, signaling a 15 minute time limit draw, but the two kept at it for a while afterwards. Sgt. Slaughter & Rocky Mountain Thunder vs. Buddy Rose, Doug Somers & Col. Debeers The deep well of hatred between the Cobra Corps and Playboy After Dark, specifically Sgt. Slaughter and Col. Debeers, exploded into a pretty crazy six man tag team match. Buddy Rose’s crew spent much of their time working over Too Cold Scorpio, the junior member of the Corps, and it looked like they just might put him away at several points, but Scorpio proved incredibly resilient, and eventually was able to roll into his corner for the hot tag. Sarge and Leon then took over the match, with White whipping Somers into a Slaughter Cannon to give the victory to the Corps. Debeers clearly wanted to go after Sarge post-match, but Rose convinced him that there would be a better time. AWA American Title Match : Dan Spivey © vs. Maxx Payne While Spivey has been dominant since winning the American Title, but faced a stern test in his former Varsity Club stablemate. The huge Payne was coming off a Japanese tour with his Death Sentence partner Jeff Gaylord, and seemed to have developed an even sharper edge to his brutal array of suplexes and submission holds. Payne mercilessly worked over Spivey’s right arm, looking to both take away the Spivey Bomber and soften him up for the Payne Killer. Spivey kept battling back but Payne was relentless in going after his right arm. Spivey was able to stagger Payne with a Big Dan Boot, following it up with a left armed Spivey Bomber, but Payne got up his forearms and blocked it. Spivey then followed up with a Spivey Bomber from his damaged right arm and, even though that took a lot out of him, he was able to get the one two three. Spivey was clearly in a lot of pain from his right arm after the match. NWA World Title Match : Rick Martel © vs. Ken Patera Martel, a long time favorite of the AWA fans, has been having a series of spectacular matches defending the NWA title all over the world. He certainly had his hands full as he took on the former AWA World champ. This proved to be an exciting battle, with Martel’s skill and speed evenly matched by Patera’s power and viciousness. Martel was in the middle of rallying against the tough Patera, staggering him with several dropkicks, when Jerry Blackwell charged into the ring and attacked him, leading to a DQ decision. Blackwell and Patera double teamed Martel until he was able to grab a chair from ringside and fend them off. Martel then got on the ringside mic and dared Patera and Blackwell to face him in a tag match in Winnipeg with the partner of his choice, a challenge that the Syndicate readily accepted.
