PWI:

The initial buyrate for the Backlash PPV has come in at between 250,000 to 275,000 buys. That is down from the about 295,000 that the show did last year.

I guess Hogan's return didn't make that much of a difference.

The worrying thing is, it probably did.

Don't forget that Backlash last year had Goldberg vs. Rock, IIRC. And a lot of people were thinking Goldberg would be just as good as he was before.

Sadly, he was booked awfully and hence killed anything that made him worth a damn to the WWE. WWE's own fault there though.

Goldberg vs Rock was two years ago, actually.

Backlash last year had Foley vs. Orton and Benoit vs. HBK vs. HHH. 2003 had Rock vs. Goldberg.

I think that Hogan probably did help the buyrate a little and helped them sell out the building. It was that Batista/HHH had no legs that kept the buyrate down IMO. I kind of think they wasted Hogan in this match. They probably should have gone with Hogan vs. HBK, as it's pretty much the only Hogan match that hasn't been done.

I'm not surprised by this. The Batista/HHH feud had no legs after Mania and it was made even worse by HHH hogging all the time and Batista not appearing until 11 most nights.

And it looks like they won't learn that lesson because Batista/HHH is going to headline another PPV.
