shoe
Ricochet just showed up and challenged the winner of Omega/Kushida. Maybe they're going to give the jr's division more focus.
soup23
That was a cool moment and actually adds more intrique to Kushida/Omega for me which I had assumed all along that Kushida would win. First half of this show was really lackluster with some dead weight in all of the matches except the opener. The opener was really fun by the way with ReDRagon controlling the action and Komatsu/Tanaka having some good saves and hope spots. I am still unsure whether Kushida/Omega will be any good as their short sequences are good in of their own but Omega will have to work on top for at least a decent portion of the match and I am always leery of that. shoe
I totally agree with everything you said there. I enjoyed the Bullet Club 6 man much more than I thought I would. Still in the 2 1/2* range, but thought they cut a decent pace.
soup23
Main event was another one of those crazy multi-man matches Bullet Club has been featuring this year. Good heat segment on Rocky Romero and then craziness for the final 5-10 minutes minus a Maria/Amber catfight I could have done without. shoe
I enjoyed the last 2 matches. That main event style felt odd to close a NJPW show. I mean I liked the match . A 4 or 4 1/4* I guess because the booking and how they build a show is structured. When they do something different it feels odd as opposed to special if that makes sense. shoe
1.reDragon vs Tanaka/Komatsu It finally dawned on me who O'Reilly reminds me of. It's Bob Backlund. This is a good match. Both teams look crisp. They work a pretty good southern formula. Tanaka and Komatsu are so well versed at getting he 1/2 crab. This was well worked where you thought the Young Boys could pull it off. 3 1/4* 2.Yuji Nagata & Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask vs. Manabu Nakanishi & Ryusuke Taguchi & Mascara Dorada Again Dorada looks the most motivated. No real story here. 2* Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima & Jay White vs. Bad Luck Fale & Tama Tonga & Cody Hall This was better than I anticipated. They cut a much faster pace than I was expecting. Jay White looked tremendous. He has it. Cody Hall needs more experience and 6 mans bring out the Worst in Fale . 2 1/2* Kushida & Captain New Japan vs. Kenny Omega & Yujiro Takahashi 3 1/4* Kushida and Omega had their moments. Captain NJ looked really terrible. We get Ricochet post match and that's something to get excited about. 2 1/4* Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe & Tetsuya Naito vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano & Gedo The new Naito is something to watch. It has a Raven feel to it. Loved Naito's tag in. Then he shoves the ref. Naito is FIP, he finally gets to his corner and refuses to tag. This has a lot going on with the feuds, Naito etc. Naito walks out on his team at the finish. 2 1/2* Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata & Tomoaki Honma vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Kazushi Sakuraba & Yoshi-Hashi All the Shibata/Sakuraba interactions in these multi man teams have been great. I hope it translates into a good singles bout. Nakamura is so charismatic. I loved the triple Nakamura leg. Sure this had a lot of the same tropes they normally use. The finish run was pretty good. Kazuchika Okada & Michael Bennett & Matt Taven & Rocky Romero & Baretta vs. A.J. Styles & Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson & Young Bucks They even get a this is awesome chant to start in Japan. I like the Bullet Club as a wolf pack waiting on the odds to be in their favor. This is a lot of fun. Romero's FIP work was well done. The Bullet Club's heat segment was real effective and gave the match some real meat to it. The Bucks and Styles have great chemistry together. The Styles/Okada interactions were gold. From working the ROH shows Okada and RPG Vice have developed great chemistry. The high spots were built to well and were great at clearing the ring for Styles and Okada one on ones. Romero taking the Razor's Edge from the ring to the outside is scary even with the catchers. The Maria/Amber stuff was what it was. The match gave everyone a moment or 2. The finishing run was a lot of fun. Pretty damn good match 4* This was their best Road to Show since NJ World has become available. We got 3 good to excellent matches, Ricochet showing up, the advancement of Naito, and nothing stinking up the joint.
