KrisZ
Kris & David are joined by Joe Sposto this week to discuss the week that was January 18-24, 1995. We talk about the 1995 Royal Rumble and the aftermath of that plus the RAW tapings the night later where there was a questionable injury that took place. We also talk about some great All Japan matches featuring the usual suspects and some other fun shows in Japan. We then talk about ECW trying to move southwards, New Jack getting arrested, Jim Crocked & Dallas having issues, and the return of Ric Flair from his retirement with the WCW All-Nighter showing lots of his matches to get you read for it. This was a blast so listen now!!! Cox
One thing about Tammy's "suspension" is, besides her WWF tryouts as Tamara Murphy, she had also broken her wrist at Christmas Chaos when she accidentally took a bump off the apron to the floor, so she wasn't able to work. Knowing Cornette, he didn't want a heel with a cast at ringside that wasn't part of a storyline since it might make her somewhat sympathetic (though Tammy could have come out in a full body cast and that crowd wouldn't have felt sympathy for her). So they did the "Tammy is suspended for Chris legdropping the cat" deal to explain why Tammy was off of the house shows, even if logically it would have made sense for it to have been Chris. Cobra Commander
Regarding the concept of Randy Savage vs Sabu: His final attempt to play in the major leagues ended when the White Sox organization cut him in 1975, before the end of spring training. “When Randy got released, he broke all his bats and got rid of all his equipment,” Judy remembers. “It was horrible. But The Sheik saved him.” The Sheik was Ed Farhat, a Lebanese-American U.S. Army vet whose wrestling gimmick included bloodying rivals with a hidden pencil, throwing fire and jabbering incomprehensible phrases fans took to be Arabic. He was also the promoter in Detroit, where Angelo and Lanny were wrestling at the time. “It was Christmas,” Judy says, “and they brought Randy along. Randy wrestled The Sheik, and he got over real good.” It was The Sheik who taught Randy a concept he’d later impart to younger wrestlers: “Be the main event, even if you’re on first.” Randy admired The Sheik with the zealousness he usually reserved for Angelo. “He even cooked for The Sheik,” Judy says. “He made him cabbage soup.” http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1643969-the-final-days-of-randy-macho-man-savage So, Savage would have other good reasons to want to work with Sabu. KrisZ
Yes there is a connection there....ICW was using Sheik all the way until the end of the promotion too
Cobra Commander
so it could have been a bit more in Japan or maybe 1995 WCW than the "hit your stuff then bodyslam/elhow drop" formula from Savage matches like Savage vs Finlay The whole planning everything trait of Savage makes he think he'd probably have a surprisingly good match with some 95/96 ECW guy that was able to actually remember preplanned spots.
