  1. First, I wouldn't be surprised if they had to comp tickets, since ECW was never big enough to justify charging so much for the house. I guess they're trying to make up for the fact that it's being held in a smaller arena. Second, it's a horrible idea to use the phrase "sports entertainment" and update on the WWE website when the goal all along has been to make this authentic. I'm sure they own some ECW domains, so why aren't they using those?
  2. Yes, definitely. I remember liking their singles match before this where Benoit got the upset as well, but I haven't seen it in a while and need to see it again.
  3. I have never heard HHH say Benoit had to be carried to a good match publicly, but he very well may have. It's not like he'd ever be reprimanded for it if he was anyway. The use of the steel steps was always something I saw more in WWE than in WCW. Raven was the first one who I saw who started using the drop toehold into an object on a regular basis, but it eventually carried over to the WWF style when HHH started doing it. At least that's how I remember it. It may have been different. Memory may be hazy, but it seems like Benoit may have done it to Raven at Souled Out '98 as a revenge spot. Is that correct? And yeah, that's my biggest gripe with the WWF style. They market wrestling to a fault -- it makes them great money, but they look at wrestlers at entities and their signature spots as slogans, kinda like Coke and "Can't Beat The Real Thing". From a business perspective, it makes sense, but there may be matches when Benoit would be better off not even going for the crossface, but he has to do it every time because he has shirts that say "Master of the Crossface". Taijiri became such a spot machine in WWE. I think Rey Misterio Jr has done a better than just about anyone of working around the limitations of the style, as he always has to do that contrived 619, but he does what he can to make it seem natural.
  4. Dynamite Kid Both were past their prime in the voting time period, but Dynamite was still much better in the ring, even if Andre has one huge show to his credit.
  5. Matt Hardy Again, neither guy deserves to be eliminated so quickly, but Hardy's run has been longer. His peaks aren't as good as Steamboat's, but his time has been sustained, and he's always contributed.
  6. Kane Has done far more with far less opportunity. That sounds strange, since Kane has been higher on the card, but Jeff got chance after chance after burning out and failed, while Kane has managed to get over some pretty shitty stuff.
  7. Goldust I tend to think Jake is largely overrated, but again, the bracketing is shit, because neither guy deserves to be eliminated twice in first-round decisions.
  8. Greg Valentine Tough call again, because you have two guys that were past their prime and whose glory days were long behind them competing for a spot, but Greg was more valuable as a singles star and is just as remembered as Demolition.
  9. Tito Santana Longer run in the company with more good matches.
  10. Chavo Guerrero Jr Far more good matches in the time frame. Played a part in the Smackdown Six, and is the best heel cruiser the company has ever had.
  11. Arn Anderson Tough call, but Arn was effective from day one in the company, and again, the Rockers feud was primo.
  12. Sgt Slaughter Val is probably the more talented in the time frame, but Slaughter has that great Gulf War heel run to his credit, and he made it to the top and headlined a WM against Hogan.
  13. Tully Blanchard Sid's time on top was ineffective, and Tully was great in the tag division. The Rockers feud was the best wrestling feud of 1989.
  14. Rey Misterio Jr Who the HELL did the bracketing for this? *looks around* Neither guy deserves to be double eliminated so quickly, but I think I have to go with Rey Misterio Jr here. It's a close call, though, and Rey only gets the edge because he's shaped into a draw for Smackdown in the past 12 months, and he's been in more good matches. Rude has carried some lesser workers to some decent stuff, so I could see voting for him just as well.
  15. Marty Jannetty More remembered and had more good-great matches.
  16. Jeff Jarrett Better matches in the time frame specified, overall. Backlund's 1994 heel run was incredibly fun, but Jarrett was just as good from 1994-1996, even if his second run wasn't quite as good.
  17. Demolition Smash He got over in his role. Randy Orton didn't.
  18. Chris Jericho If you compare overall career peaks, I think Taka at his best far exceeds Jericho at his best as a worker, but in this company, Jericho has headlined some huge shows and had better matches.
  19. Bam Bam Bigelow Far better worker who didn't get the same push, but would have been a much bigger star if all things were equal. Showed he was a trooper by dropping a match to a football player in the main event of a Wrestlemania, while Warrior demanded in his comeback match that HHH get in no offense at all. Warrior was overpaid and hurt business.
