She takes us to a world of high drama, performance art, questions of hierarchy, identity and gender, and presents something so visceral and ultimately cathartic that speaks to the horrors and wonders of being a human being. Plus all of her matches rule." Steve/overbooked

  8. #53 Katsuyori Shibata 2016 Ranking: 285 [+232] 2006 Ranking: 350 [+297] Points: 13320 Points per Vote: 53.3 Votes: 250, 52.19% of Ballots Top 3-10-25 Votes: 4-14-50 Standard Deviation: 25.6 Nomination Thread: Katsuyori Shibata High Vote: 1 High Voter: Vivi "Whilst he doesn’t have the breadth of a career as what will likely be a lot of other people’s #1 (names like Funk, Flair and Tenryu spring to mind) there is just something intangible about Katsuyori Shibata that is impossible to describe. It is just an innate special, almost mythical ability with him that just captivates and drags me in more than any other wrestler has ever done. His hit rate speaks for itself, obviously the lauded Okada match, the Ishii sprints but even back to his initial (and best) run, there’s the Akiyama match, the Chosu match, the matches with Tenryu, the Kawada match, the plethora of tags in both New Japan and NOAH. Even during the comeback there are matches that just aren’t heralded as much as they should be, the Sakuraba match is spectacular, the Honma G1 24 match my GOD, that entire G1 run is just home run after home run. Words can’t describe how i feel about Shibata, it’s just magic. Taking a 4+ year hiatus and coming back like he never took a day off. The peaks are just ridiculous and the consistency within his activity is other worldly, do I understand the criticisms? Yeah. Do i get why people would disagree? Yeah. But my god, i feel so alive when watching Shibata, and that counts more than anything." Vivi
  9. No, but the honourable mention reveal shows when people started watching by decade

He was elite in the ring, great on the mic, believable as a character, and could be serious or funny without losing credibility. His Olympic gold medal background added legit credibility to wrestling, and every time he stepped in the ring, he felt like someone who could actually beat anybody." Charles LaRocca
  12. Dump rules so hard, so unique. Maybe the best heel ever. Her getting shit on for so long is what was dumb.

Two things separate Devil from the other's who fit the criteria 1) while wrestling in the deepest and highest peak era in pro wrestling Devil gave a LOT of people either their best or second best matches 2) she's better at using facial expressions than any other wrestler I've ever seen and as a result I'm consistently much more invested in her matches than other wrestlers who is comparable to her in other ways." dokomoy
