Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, on ESPN / TSN , October 4th Leo Burke, Gypsy Joe & The Hart Brothers vs. Jake Roberts, "Diamond" Timothy Flowers & The Starr "Cousins" Timothy Flowers just hasn't had any good luck of late, and that downward trend certainly continued in this match. Burke, Gypsy and the Harts were all over him throughout the match, with Flowers unable to make the tag to get some respite. Jake Roberts was giving him a disgusted look during the course of the match, eventually giving the Starr's orders to make no effort to tag in. Flowers eventually went down to a nasty running uppercut from Gypsy Joe that meant the end of the match. Roberts came in the ring right afterwards and helped up Flowers, only to take him down again with a DDT. Evidently the Diamond Starr Corporation are done, as the only response from his now former partners was a look of contempt from Ron Starr and snickering from Chicky. But the humiliation was not done for Flowers, as the moment Roberts and the Starrs left the ring, the Fabulous Freebirds rushed the ring and plucked the big gold ring from his hand. After Michael Hayes put the ring on his own finger, the three Freebirds viciously put the boots to Flowers until security cleared them out. In the end, poor Flowers ended up being taken out of the ring on a stretcher. AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Terry Taylor © vs. Super Strong Machine For all of his questionable tactics, Terry Taylor has been ducking no challengers as TV Champion. His latest challenge would be the always tough Japanese superstar, Super Strong Machine. Machine clearly had no time for Taylor's shenanigans as he was all business , going right after Taylor with blistering chops and jarring kicks. Taylor was on the defensive early but took the low road to get back the advantage, going after Machine's mask by tearing and pulling at it to distract him. This ultimately enraged Machine, who started going after Taylor full bore, but this wound up playing into Taylor's hands. Taylor lured him into a vicious knee shot to the midsection, which set up Machine for a Fivearm and the wrong side of the referee's count. Say what you will for Taylor's change of methods, but they have certainly gotten results. Texas Red vs. Dick Slater The feud between the Marauders and the tandem of Billy Jack Haynes and Texas Red just keeps rolling on in this singles match. Both men had their partners in their corner but seemed laser focused on each other. Slater seems to be one of the few wrestlers not intimidated by Red, as he went after the towering Texan with both guns blazing. Red fought back with equal intensity and the battle went back and forth. It looked like Slater just might pull it off until Red sent him down hard to the mat with a flying lariat. He then dragged up Slater to get him ready for his dreaded Heart Punch, only to be clipped from behind by Matt Borne. The ref called for the DQ and the Marauders worked over Red's leg until Haynes dashed into the ring to run them off. Billy Jack helped Red up, but the Texan was clearly limping as he returned to the locker room. The Vachon Brothers vs. The Royal Family The Vachons are coming off their brutal feud with the Assassins, and the nasty Antipodean duo of Boyd and Morgan were clearly not going to let the brothers catch their breath in this match. Both sides went at it fast and furious, with the match threatening to break down into complete chaos several times. Things finally fell apart when the ref tried to get in between Mad Dog and Rip Morgan and getting slugged by both men for his troubles. Despite the double DQ finish, both sides wanted to keep going. Looks like the Vachons might have gone straight from the frying pan to the fire and , strangely enough, they seem to like it that way. Hulk Hogan vs. Larry Zbyszko After spending the last while taking pot shots at Hogan while hiding behind Nord The Barbarian, Larry Z would have no such safety net this time out. With Nord sent packing last week, Larry would have to face the Hulkster all by himself. While he did have his manager KY Wakamatsu in his corner, Larry was clearly quaking in his boots when Hogan came out. He did everything he could to put off locking up with him, but Hogan finally caught with him and started tossing him around the ring. Larry kept trying to come back with short cut moves but Hogan would not be held off by that for long. Larry finally caught a lucky break when he ducked under an Axe Bomber which hit the ref. He tried to take advantage of this, but a big fist from Hogan sent him to the mat. Then Wakamatsu came into the ring but Hogan sent him and his megaphone out with violent force. But then, out of nowhere , a mysterious man appeared in the ring behind Hogan. The Hulkster turned around to face him, only to catch a face full of green mist! Hogan staggered around until the mystery man caught him on the chin with a lightning quick spin kick and Hulk went down. Larry crawled over and covered him, and the ref had recovered enough to count the one two three. Larry Zbyszko just beat Hulk Hogan! The crowd was in shock as Larry, Wakamatsu and the mystery man dashed out of the ring before Hogan could come to his senses, but you just know that the Hulkster will be out for vengeance, and soon.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , on ESPN / TSN , September 27th The Hart Brothers vs. The Assassins The matchup of the brutal Assassins against the technically savvy Harts certainly made for an action packed bout, but that wasn't the real story of this bout. The most notable thing that happened was when the Freebirds made their way to ringside and attacked JR Foley. After brutalizing the sinister manager, Terry Gordy gave him a vicious piledriver on the concrete, after which Buddy Roberts took the big gold ring from Foley's finger and put it on his own, cackling all the while. After the Freebirds tore off to the back, the Assassins finally noticed that their manager was unconscious at ringside and tried to figure out what happened. The Harts immediately took advantage of their distraction and double dropkicked them out of the ring, leading to their victory by countout. After their underhanded attack on the Brigade last week, it looks like the Freebirds are attacking from all sides, and it's anyone's guess as to who will be next on their list. Leo Burke & Gypsy Joe vs. Jake Roberts & "Diamond" Timothy Flowers Last week, Burke and his new partner Gypsy Joe made a big impact by defeating the Starr "Cousins" . This time out, the would be facing their partner, "Diamond" Timothy Flowers, and the always dangerous Jake Roberts. Flowers wound up getting the worst of this match, getting badly hammered by the fists of Burke and Gypsy. Roberts seemed clearly displeased by Flowers' performance, scowling on the ring apron, but only when Burke got him locked in the Sleeper Hold did he decide to intervene, summoning in the Starrs to attack and causing a DQ loss for his team. He helped Flowers up after the match , but was obviously not happy with him. Keiichi Yamada vs. Masanobu Fuchi Yamada has been on a real tear since joining up with Hiro Saito and looked to continue that momentum in tonight's match. The experienced Japanese star Fuchi was certainly not going to roll over for Yamada, going toe to toe and exchanging vicious chops and kicks, as well as dueling submission holds. In the end, it was the high flying side of Yamada's offense that would prevail, as he defeated Fuchi with a top rope missile dropkick. Word has it that Yamada is looking to go on a run to get a World Light Heavyweight Title shot. If so, he is certainly off to a good start. Ed Wiskowski vs. Phil LaFleur Although Buddy Rose may no longer have the Pacific Heavyweight Title, that isn't stopping the individual members from challenging for it. The brutal Polish Prince has made his claim on the top contendership and looked to back that up in his match with one half of the French Revolution, Phil LaFleur. The tag champ certainly did his best, but the sheer power and viciousness of Wiskowski was too much for him, and the face first piledriver brought the victory to the Prince. Wiskowski looked do to more damage after the match, but Dino Bravo rushed out to rescue his partner. Roddy Piper looks to be in for a rough ride as champion. Loser Leaves Town Match : Nord The Barbarian vs. Hulk Hogan Nord and Larry Zbyszko have both been waging a war on the Hulkster and this is where it all comes to a head. Both men and their manager, KY Wakamatsu, threw everything but the proverbial kitchen sink at Hogan, but he still kept coming after them. Larry and Wakamatsu even tried to double up on him with the dreaded megaphone, but he caught them and smashed their heads together. This opened a chance, however, for Nord, who took advantage of the distraction by blindsiding Hogan with a lariat. It looked like it was all over for the Hulkster as Nord launched the Bombs Away kneedrop. But it turned out that Hulk was just playing possum as he rolled out of the way just in time. He took Nord down again with an Axe Bomber, then hit the Big Knee Drop. One two three, and Nord is gone from Pacific Coast. Larry Z could clearly be seen gulping in fear as his last line of defence was gone. He would now have to face the Hulkster one on one.

A few quick notes : 1. Goldie Rogers is currently on the TNT roster 2. Gerald Finley is a completely different from David "Fit" Finlay . Gerald Finley was a southern wrestler who later worked under a mask as Black Cat. David "Fit" Finlay, the Belfast Bruiser / Fighting Irishman , was active around this time in Japan which is how I was able to use him in the 1983 project, but I don't know if that would make him eligible for this project (although I would be psyched if he was). 3. Not sure about Bruno Sammartino being eligible at this point, he only wrestled 19 matches in 1985 according to Cagematch, usually teaming with his son, and I think would at best be considered a part timer / semi retired.

AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Oakland Alameda County Arena, Oakland, September 21st The Royal Family vs. The Vachon Brothers Rip Morgan took The Butcher down with a big boot for the victory Hiro Saito vs. Masanobu Fuchi Saito won with a top rope flying senton Billy Jack Haynes & Texas Red vs. The Marauders Both teams went to a double DQ The Assassins vs. The Hart Brothers Assassin # 1 pinned Bruce after a powerslam AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Terry Taylor © vs. Super Strong Machine Taylor got the pinfall after hitting the Fivearm AWA Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The French Revolution © vs. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers A hard fought match where Bravo was finally able to hit the side suplex on Somers to defend their titles. After the match, Rose threw powder in the eyes of Bravo and he and Somers beat him down until LaFleur was finally able to run them out. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Cow Palace , San Francisco , on ESPN / TSN, September 20th The Starr "Cousins" vs. Leo Burke & ?? ?? Ron and Chicky Starr have been doing a fair amount of gloating in assisting Jake Roberts in banishing Ron Garvin from Pacific Coast Wrestling. Leo Burke took umbrage about his former partner being disrespected, so he swiftly issued a challenge to the Starrs to face him and his new partner. Whatever the Starrs were expecting when they agreed to the match, they certainly were caught off guard when Burke and Gypsy Joe came storming out to the ring. The hard bitten Puerto Rican veteran clearly had no time for any of the Starrs' trademark shenanigans, and any attempt by Ron and Chicky to work in a cheap shot was met with a bunch of fives. Desperation took over and Chicky whipped the ref into a shot by Joe, leading to a double DQ decision, but that didn't stop Burke and Joe, and the Starrs wound up fleeing from the ring. Texas Red vs. Bobby Mason Ever since arriving in the Pacific Northwest, Texas Red has been a figure of terror throughout the territory. Now that he has broken ranks with the Spoiler, however …. well, he is still pretty terrifying , but he now has the fans and Billy Jack Haynes on his side. He has clearly not lost his edge because of it, as he battered young Bobby Mason from pillar to post before finishing him off with a mighty chokeslam. After the pinfall, he brought Mason back up to his feet and looked like he was going to hit him with the Heart Punch, but Billy Jack got in his ear and Red simply shook the rookie's hand. One can bet that the Spoiler or the Marauders won't get nearly as much consideration. Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. The Hart Brothers Buddy Rose may have lost the Pacific Heavyweight Title to Roddy Piper, but he hasn't taken it lying down. While he does intend to get the title back, he has announced that he will first take out anyone who is close to the Hot Rod, starting with his allies, Pacific Tag Champ the French Revolution. Before that happens, though , Rose and Somers have to make it past the Hart Brothers, who are coming off a tough match challenging for the AWA World Titles at Phoenix Firestorm. Determined not to be looked past, Keith and Bruce gave it everything they had in a match that went back and forth. In the end, though, Somers was able to catch Bruce in a brainbuster and get the victory. The French Revolution are certainly in for a tough set of defenses with the Army coming after them. Jonathan Boyd vs. Hector Guerrero Speaking of title challenges, it seems the Embassy is well and truly dead now that the Royal Family are challenging the Guerreros for the Golden State Tag Titles. The fans are clearly siding with the Guerreros as they cheered on Hector's every move. Both men's partners were at ringside for the early stages of the match, but after one too many attempts at interference, the ref ordered them back to the locker room under threat of suspension. The momentum of the match went back and forth, with Boyd's rough and ready offense clashing with Hector's more polished approach, but Hector was able to block Boyd's attempt at an over the shoulder neckbreaker and get his own backslide that kept his lordship's shoulders to the mat for the three count. The moment the ref's hand hit the mat for a third time, Rip Morgan came charging out, followed by Mando Guerrero, and the two teams slugged it out until security intervened. Interview : Frank Bonnema stands in the ring Bonnema : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guests are a group of promising young wrestlers who have been under a bit of a cloud lately … The Brigade. The mood is somber as the members of the Brigade headed to the ring. Tom Zenk was missing following the damage he had taken last week, but the rest of them had extremely sour expressions on their faces, except for Terry Taylor, who was all smiles as he held the TV Title belt over his head and gestured at it to the fans. Mike Rotunda : With all due respect, Mister Bonnema, I think it is best if you left this to us. (Bonnema hands the microphone to Rotunda and leaves the ring) Terry Taylor, it was one month ago that we stood in this very ring and tried to air out our differences. I had hoped you would see the light and straighten up, but if anything, your behaviour has gotten worse. First of all, the way you won your title match against Ron Garvin was just disgusting. Taylor : (smiling even more broadly) Hey, I did what I had to do. Garvin is a tough competitor and he wasn't going to cut me any slack, so why should I do that for him? If you had just let me start the match from the beginning when I wanted to, I wouldn't have had to cut any corners, but no! You insisted on giving him time to recover from what Jake Roberts did to him. I don't see why we should have to give a break to an opponent, but I played it your way, and he certainly didn't give me any breaks. So the one moment I see an opportunity, I do what I need to do to get the win. I seem the only one willing to get his hands dirty in this group, but like I say, a win is a win, and I bring the first and so far only title gold to the Brigade. You're welcome! Rotunda : (pausing while staring daggers at Taylor) Even if I agreed with all of that, that doesn't explain last week's match. What on earth were you doing, refusing to tag in to the match and letting Tom Zenk take a beating? Tommy is now laid up with badly bruised ribs. How is that for the good of the Brigade? Taylor : (starting to pout) Alright, now I am starting to get annoyed. A month ago, you complained that I was taking up too much time in a tag match. So I once again do things your way, and give Zenk all the time he can handle in the match, and now you chew me out over that. I gave Zenk his chance to shine in the match, and he was the one who dropped the ball. It's not my fault he couldn't rise to the occasion, and it isn't my fault you and Spivey couldn't follow through on the opportunity that I got for you against the Royal Family! (Rotunda and Spivey start to bristle) I've been the one carrying all of you guys since I showed up, and all I hear is complaints! Well, since it seems I am not appreciated here, maybe I should just take my gold, my talent and my winning personality somewhere else, and leave the rest of you to make do without me. I know there are people who value what I have to offer, certainly more than you ingrates do! Rotunda : (taking a long pause before speaking in a low, quiet voice) I think that might be for the best, Terry. Taylor looks like he is going to throw a fit, but instead, fastens his TV Title belt around his waist and gets ready to leave the ring, and the Brigade. Rotunda tries to offer him a respectful handshake goodbye, but Taylor brushed it aside and left the ring alone. He turned one last time and fixed a petulant look at Rotunda , Spivey and Perez … which slowly dissolved into a puzzled expression. It soon became clear what he was looking at, when three men charged into the ring and attacked the remaining Brigade members from behind. The strangers started beating them down while whalloping them with a flagpole with a Confederate flag attached. IT WAS THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS! They don't even work here! Taylor gave a nonchalant shrug and insufferable smirk as he said, "Not my problem anymore", and abandoned his former colleagues to their fate. The Freebirds destroyed the Brigade members before Gordy locked up Rotunda in the Asiatic Spike , and then dropped him hard to the mat. As the shocked fans looked on in horror, the last shot of the show was Michael Hayes standing over Rotunda's unconscious body, waving the rebel flag overhead while cackling like a madman.

AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Portland Memorial Coliseum , Portland, September 14th The Royal Family vs. The Hart Brothers Rip Morgan hit a running powerslam on Keith for the win Al Perez vs. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers Perez won with the German Suplex Texas Red vs. The Spoiler Red scored the victory with a flying lariat AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Terry Taylor © vs. Chavo Guerrero Taylor snuck in a low blow, then followed up with the Fivearm to successfully defend his title Hulk Hogan vs. Nord The Barbarian Hogan won by DQ when he was attacked by KY Wakamatsu AWA Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The French Revolution © vs. The Assassins Bravo was able to hit a side suplex on Assassin #2 to pull out a hard fought victory AWA Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Roddy Piper © vs. Buddy Rose Rose was going for the Inside Out Backbreaker, but Piper blocked it and followed up with a Sunset Flip to get the one-two-three

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Portland Sports Arena, Portland , on ESPN / TSN , September 13th The Royal Family vs. Terry Taylor & Tom Zenk After his TV Title victory at Phoenix Firestorm, Terry Taylor proudly had his title belt on display , showing it off to all and sundry and smiling broadly as he pointed to it. This behaviour earned him no favours with his partner, who had a displeased expression throughout the pre-match, nor the fans, who were finding Taylor's grandstanding to be a bit much. For all the production he made before the match, Taylor was strangely inactive during the match itself, tagging out almost the moment he was tagged in. This was bad news for Zenk, who took a severe battering at the hands of Boyd and Morgan, who took advantage of Taylor's non-involvement and merciliessly double teamed their younger opponent. Taylor gave Zenk all aid short of help, clapping and encouraging him from ringside but failing to actually intervene in any way. The Royal Family basically had their way with Zenk before finishing him off with an especially brutal double stomach breaker, with Boyd throwing in a neckbreaker after the match for good measure. Taylor was all smarm as he congratulated Zenk for his efforts and patted him on the back, but Zenk was clearly in extreme pain. Nord The Barbarian vs. Dan Barry Word has it that Larry Zbyszko is fed up with Hulk Hogan's presence at his matches and is directing Nord to get him out of his hair once and for all. Based on what the Barbarian did to poor Dan Barry , Hulkster had best be worried. Nord basically folded, spindled and mutilated Barry with a series of brutal power moves, not even bothing to pin him but rather raising him over head and tossing him outside to land in a crumpled heap. Zbyszko is out for revenge and with Nord The Barbarian as his chief weapon, he may well get it. Mr. Hito & Masanobu Fuchi vs. Keiichi Yamada & Hiro Saito Yamada lost his regular partner the Cobra recently, but seems to have found a new mentor in Hiro Saito. Saito seems to have brought out a more aggressive side of Yamada, as the young star seem to have an added edge to his kicks and chops, as well as a bit more of a reckless style. While it was Saito who ultimately pinned Hito after a top rope flying senton, it was Yamada who kept Fuchi from breaking up the pinfall by catching him in a spectacular running palm strike to the chin. It looks like Yamada is ready to kick things up to the next level. Loser Leaves Town Match : Ron Garvin vs. Jake Roberts Jake the Snake has seemed to have a scheme for every occasion, but it looked like he might have bitten off more than he could chew by taking on Ron Garvin in a match where only one man would remain in Pacific Coast Wrestling. Garvin came at him like a freight train, and while Robert would find some way of wriggling out of danger , it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Garvin caught up with him and put him out. Then the tide turned when the Starr "Cousins" , who have had their own troubles with Garvin, started sneaking down to ringside. When it looked like Garvin had Roberts lined up for the running Hands Of Stone Punch, Ron and Chicky reached in an tripped him, staggering him enough that Jake was able to capitalize with a kneelift and the DDT to score the win. There doesn't seem to be any depth to which Roberts won't sink, and now he has sent Ron Garvin out of the territory. At this rate, is there anyone who can stop him? The Marauders vs. Billy Jack Haynes & ?? ?? Speaking of wrestlers on a rampage, the team of Dick Slater and Matt Borne have been on their own path of destruction, having hurt both of Haynes' previous partners, Phil Hickerson and Tracey Smothers, so badly that they had to leave the territory. Haynes had challenged them to a match with him and the partner of his choice and they accepted, figuring they would do the same thing to his new partner that they had to his previous colleagues. They were all evil chortles as they came to the ring, turning to full on laughter when Haynes came out alone. Slater got on the ringside mic and told him to bring out his partner, they didn't care who it was. Haynes refused to be goaded and said nothing, simply turning to the back and pointing. The curtains parted and out stepped ….. TEXAS RED???? The huge Texan had last been seen as partner to the Spoiler, and the audience gasped as he walked out and took his place at the side of Billy Jack Haynes. The Marauders were furious and went all out on the pair, but Red and Haynes both had something to prove. Ultimately , Red flattened Slater with a lariat and followed up with a big flying elbowdrop, while Haynes trapped Borne in a massive bearhug as his partner got the pin. The crowd cheered themselves hoarse as this devastating new duo stood defiantly in the ring.
