  1. AAAAAAUUUUUUUGH!
  2. AWA Pacific Coast Wrestling presents Phoenix Firestorm from Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, August 30th Keiichi Yamada & The Cobra vs. The Starr "Cousins" The arena was jam packed with enthusiastic fans as AWA Pacific Coast kicked off its biggest show yet with the two popular Japanese light heavyweights taking on the nefarious Starrs. Cobra's leg had sustained a lot of damage in recent matches, so his partner took the lead in this match, staying in as much as he could. Sensing weakness, the Starrs took advantage of this, working Yamada over in their corner of the ring and using their trademark sneaky tactics to do as much damage as they could. Cobra kept trying to tag in, but the Starrs would keep pulling Yamada out of his grasp just when it looked like he might be able to make the tag. Finally, Yamada was able to make to rolling tag and Cobra came into the match. The masked man was clearly favoring his leg but did the best he could, and finally went up to the top to take out Chicky Starr with a flying move. Unfortunately, Ron had crept up behind him and shoved him off the top turnbuckle, landing awkwardly on his damaged leg. Chicky swept in for the kill and applied a figure four, and try though he might, Cobra was not able to make it to the ropes and was forced to give up the match. This was not enough for the Starrs, as Chicky kept on the figure four while Ron kicked at the trapped Cobra until Yamada was able to break it up. Yamada helped his partner get to the back, but it was clear that Cobra was in agony. AWA World Light Heavyweight Title Match : Brad Armstrong © vs. Chavo Guerrero Up next was the first World title match of the evening, with the visiting champ Brad Armstrong taking on Chavo Guerrero. While Chavo might tend towards the more ruthless side of the roster, he kept it clean and delivered an exciting technical match to try to win the title. The momentum swung back and forth and the crowd gasped at every near fall. They even started cheering Chavo when it looked like he might just pull off the victory. Chavo had Brad in a waistlock to try and execute the German Suplex, but the champ was able to block it, then whip round to hit the Russian Legsweep. One two three and he had successfully defended his title. Both wrestlers shook hands after the match and the crowd roared their approval when Brad held up Chavo's arm in a sign of respect. Super Strong Machine vs. Larry Zbyszko These two have been battling furiously for several months now, with Larry initially having the advantage being backed up by Nord The Barbarian , but Machine eventually bringing in his own equalizer in the form of Hulk Hogan. Both of their comrades would be taking a passive part in this match, being handcuffed to each other at ringside. Hogan had his own match coming up later in the evening, challenging for the world title, but stood dutifully at ringside, determined to watch his friend's back as best as he could. Larry Z kept backpedaling as much as he could though the match, clearly shy of taking on Super Strong Machine in anything resembling a fair fight, but Machine kept right on after him. He still had a fair amount of skill on his side, and any time it looked like Machine had him dead to rights, Larry would find some way of weasling out of it. Things started to get out of control when, out of nowhere, Nord just started punching Hogan in the face, leading to the Hulkster firing back with big shots of his own. This proved to be a ruse as, once the ref went over to break it up, Larry's manager KY Wakamatsu threw his trademark megaphone into the ring. Larry caught it and was about to use it to hit his opponent, but Super Strong Machine swiftly nailed him with a thrust case that sent the megaphone smashing hard into his own face. The ref turned around, saw Machine covering Larry and made the count. When they realized what happened, Larry and his crew were furious, but it didn't do them any good as Machine and Hulkster rejoiced with the fans at having put one over on Larry Z. AWA Golden State Tag Team Title Match : Mando & Hector Guerrero © vs. The Royal Family When the Guerreros discovered that their title challengers would be their supposed Embassy allies of Jonathan Boyd and Rip Morgan, they were not please in the least, seeing it as a betrayal. The Royal Family, for their part, were not going to go easy on the champs just because they were in the Embassy together, and went at them full bore. Mando and Hector were certainly not going to take that lying down, and fought back against the Antipodean brawlers with a mix of technical moves and swift tags to keep them off balance. Things eventually went completely out of control, with all four men in the ring at once and refusing to leave, leading to the ref declaring a double DQ, but they just kept going at it long after the bell. It looks like that is it for the Embassy, as it is highly unlikely the Guerreros and the Royal Family will look together again. No DQ Match : The Marauders vs. Billy Jack Haynes & Tracey Smothers Speaking of long feuds, The Marauders have bedeviled Billy Jack Haynes for quite some time now, with Tracey Smothers consistently getting caught in the crossfire. Haynes and Smothers were both hungry for revenge, but had to concede a no DQ stipulation to get this match. For all of their shared hatred of Billy Jack, Slater and Borne focused their attention on Smothers, laying a nasty beating on the young man from Tennessee. No matter what they did , he just kept popping back up. It looked like it was all over for him when Slater nailed him with a piledriver, but he managed to get his shoulder up just before the count of three. Deciding enough was enough, Borne came in the ring and the two hit a Spike Piledriver on Smothers, but miraculously Smothers was able to kick out a microsecond before the final count. With a singular lack of remorse, the Marauders brought a steel folding chair into the ring and , in spite of Haynes pleas from the outside, Spike Piledrove the helpless Smothers on top of it. They never got a chance to go for a pinfall as Haynes threw in the towel to try to stop any more damage to his friend. Borne and Slater laughed maniacally as they left the ring, while Haynes cradled his unconscious partner in his arms and stared at them with a murderous look, loudly swearing vengeance. AWA World Tag Team Title Match : The Movement © vs. The Hart Brothers The match had initially been scheduled for the Road Warriors to be defending the titles, but with their recent World Tag Title victory, it wound up being the team of Pez Whatley and Tiger Conway who would be putting the belts on the line. While the Harts were clearly unfamiliar with the Movement, that didn't lessen their determination to make their World Tag Team Title reign a brief one as they gave it everything they had. The Movement, for their part, showed all of the guile and cunning that brought them the titles in the first place. Bruce Hart seemingly was ready to bring the titles to Pacific Coast when he attempted a slingshot lariat on Pez, but Conway snuck up behind him and yanked on the ropes at the last moment, causing him to face plant onto the mat. Pez hit a diving headbutt and ensured that the title belts would remain around their waists. Clearly this is a team that should not be underestimated. Double Chain Tag Team Match : The Vachon Brothers vs. The Assassins Well, you certainly knew from the outset that this match was not going to be a technical masterpiece. What you got was a bloody, intense brawl, with both of the Assassins ending up with ripped masks and all four men busted open. The ref gave up all pretense of trying to control this and simply stayed out of their way until it was time to make the final count. That ultimately came when the Butcher wrapped a chain around the throat of Assassin #2 and held him over his knee while his brother came off the second turnbuckle with a kneedrop. One Two Three and the carnage had finally come to an end. AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Terry Taylor There was a lot of anticipation coming into the match. While there was some controversy surrounding the circumstances of his victory, Terry Taylor had impressively won a battle royal to get his title shot, and came to the ring joined by the other members of the Brigade. However, when Ron Garvin made his entrance, he was ambushed in the aisle by Jake Roberts, who nailed him with a kneelift before hitting a DDT on the concrete. While some of the other members of the Brigade chased off Roberts, Mike Rotunda insisted that Garvin be given time to recover before the match started. Terry Taylor didn't seem especially happy with that, being very keen to get the match started and underway, but Rotunda was able to talk him down. Garvin was eventually able to get to his feet and get into the ring, earning a round of applause from the crowd and the Brigade (including Taylor) for his fortitude . Taylor seemed to be taking it easy on Garvin, using technical grappling and matwork for the most part. Taylor certainly impressed with his skill, but the longer the match went on, the more Garvin seemed to be feeling his oats, and started to dish out his patented lefts and rights. The match started to crank up in intensity, and Taylor shifted over to more hard hitting moves of his own. Garvin managed to tag him with a few stiff shots and back him into the corner, leading to the ref to step in, but then Taylor, just out of the ref's line of sight, nailed Garvin with a huge low blow kick. The fans and the Brigade were aghast as Taylor followed up with a Fivearm on the staggered Garvin. The ref counted to three and Terry Taylor was the new Pacific TV champion. Taylor grabbed the belt and jumped up and down enthusiastically as he patted the rest of the Brigade on the back, but his comrades were clearly in a state of shock as they left the ring. AWA Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Spoiler & Texas Red © vs. The French Revolution Even since before winning the Tag Titles, the veteran Spoiler and spectacular young star Texas Red have seemed nearly unstoppable. Even so, Bravo and Lafleur have a fair amount of momentum going into their title opportunity, including some singles wins over the champs. The champs were clearly looking to nip this challenge in the bud, opening up with some big power moves, but the challengers were able come back and even score some near falls. The champions seemed to get full on fed up with the Revolution and Red tossed Lafleur over the top rope. Spoiler then picked up Bravo and held him in place so that Red could hit his notorious Heart Punch. Bravo wriggled loose at the last second and Red clobbered Spoiler instead. It was at that moment that Lafleur came off the top turnbuckle with a flying tackle that prevented Red from interfering as Bravo wrapped up Spoiler in a double leg cradle to get the Tag Titles for the Revolution. After the match, Red helped up Spoiler and tried to apologize, but Spoiler didn't want to hear any of it. The two were loudly arguing as they made their way to the back. AWA World Title Match : Ted Dibiase © vs. Hulk Hogan The first match of the double main event was perhaps the most prestigious matches in the history of Pacific Coast Wrestling. Since losing the World Title in controversial fashion shortly before arriving in the Pacific Coast, Hulk Hogan has hungered for the chance to get back the belt. Dibiase, for his part, has ducked no challenges but for his first Pacific defense he would be facing a formidable challenge. Ted Dibiase tried to control the pace of the match, using armlocks and other submission holds to wear the Hulkster down, but Hulk kept bulling into the champ with big tackles and tossing him around with power moves. At various points , it looked like either man had taken the match, Hogan with a big boot and Dibiase with a powerslam, but both times the other man was just able to get his foot on the ropes. Hogan tried to take Dibiase out for good with an Axe Bomber, but the champion dodged out of the way and Hogan spilled out of the ring to the floor. He took a nasty spill and it took some time , but Hogan was able to pull himself back into the ring just before the count. Dibiase started throwing down big punches, and Hogan replied in kind, and the two were still going at it when the bell rang, signaling a 30 minute time limit draw. Dibiase shook his hand after the match, but you could tell that the Hulkster was frustrated and not being able to pull out the win. AWA Pacific Heavyweight Title Cage Match : Buddy Rose © vs. Roddy Piper This is it. The Big One. The one that Pacific Coast fans have been waiting for almost all year. Buddy Rose had thrown many obstacles in the path of Roddy Piper, but nothing, not Doug Somers, not Ed Wiskowski, was going to stop the Rowdy One from getting his title match. Once the cage door shut behind them, Rose tried everything to stall and back away, but Piper just charged at him and tore into him. Piper tore into the Playboy, slamming his head into the cage and busting him open. Never one to be without a failsafe, Rose was eventually able to reach into his trunks and pull out a set of brass knucks, getting his own blood out of Piper and gaining control of the match. Rose did everything he could to put down Piper, but he just couldn't keep his shoulders to the mat. He finally tried to dispatch him with the Inside Out Backbreaker, but Piper was able to block it and reverse it into a Sleeper Hold. For all that he flailed his arms , Rose was not able to make it to the ropes. He was finally able to inch to the corner and kick back with his feet, landing with all of his weight on Piper's chest, but Piper was able to roll through with it and kept the hold cinched tight. The ref dropped Rose's arm … one time … two times … THREE TIMES! Roddy Piper had finally one the Pacific Heavyweight Title! The crowd roared as the other wrestlers filled the ring and raised Piper on their shoulders, glad to finally crown a new king.
  3. AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Oakland Alameda County Arena, Oakland, August 17th Keiichi Yamada & The Cobra vs. Masanobu Fuchi & Mr. Hito Yamada caught Fuchi coming off the ropes with a palm thrust under the chin to get the victory. Cobra was clearly limping on the way to the ring and Yamada wrestled pretty much the entire match by himself Billy Jack Haynes vs. Dick Slater Slater caught Haynes in the corner and got the pinfall with his feet on the ropes Ron Starr vs. Terry Taylor Taylor won with a Fivearm AWA Golden State Tag Team Title Match : Mando & Hector Guerrero © vs. Tom Zenk & Al Perez Hector trapped Zenk in the Guerrero Clutch to defend their titles AWA Pacific Television Title : Ron Garvin © vs. Jake Roberts Both men were counted out while brawling outside the ring 2/3 Falls Six Man Tag Team Match : The Buddy Rose Army vs. Roddy Piper & The French Revolution 1st Fall : Dino Bravo pinned Doug Somers after an Airplane Spin 2nd Fall : Ed Wiskowski pinned Phil LaFleur after a face first piledriver 3rd Fall : Roddy Piper scored the pinfall on Buddy Rose with a schoolboy rollup out of the corner Winners : Roddy Piper & The French Revolution
  4. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Cow Palace , San Francisco , on ESPN / TSN, August 16th Matt Borne vs. Billy Jack Haynes These former friends have had some intense tag battles since their split, and facing each other one-on-one has only served to crank up the intensity. Billy Jack really let it all out as he ferociously tore into Borne, seeking revenge for his betrayal. Borne, for his part, gave as good as he got, and both men wound up getting busted open. Billy Jack was able to catch Borne off the ropes in a lightning quick powerslam that was able to get a quick one-two-three , but this was only the queue for Dick Slater to charge into the ring, followed by Hayne's comrade Tracey Smothers. The two sides battled until security forced them to the back. It looks like they will have to wait until Phoenix Firestorm to try to get this score settled once and for all. Interview : Frank Bonnema stands in the ring Bonnema : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guests are a collection of some of the most promising talent in all of Pacific Coast Wrestling … The Brigade! All five members of the Brigade troop out to the ring. Strangely, most of the members have very serious looks on their faces, with the sole exception of Terry Taylor , who is all smiles and high fives for the fans. Bonnema : Mike Rotunda, the Brigade has had some impressive success in Pacific Coast, but their have been rumours of unrest among the ranks. Care to respond to these rumours? Rotunda : Well, Frank Bonnema, unrest is probably too strong a word. But there are some things that need to be aired out. Terry … (Terry Taylor smiles even wider at his name being mentioned.) Terry, you were invited into the Brigade because we figured that you were a talent that would do well within our team. And while you have gotten some big wins and always worked hard in the ring, I have gotten a bit concerned about your recent behaviour. The Brigade needs to work together, and it frequently seems like you are pulling off in a different direction. Case in point, the recent tag match with the Guerreros. We kept calling on you to tag out, but you stayed in the ring and tried to wrestle the whole match by yourself, and you ended up getting pinned. Taylor : (cutting Rotunda off) Hey, I absolutely apologize for that. I really wanted to prove myself and show that I belonged in the Brigade, and it ended up costing me … err, us the match. Entirely my fault, and it won't happen again, I promise. Rotunda : (pausing, taking a deep breath then slowly letting it out) Fair enough. But then , in the battle royal for the TV title shot, you go and dump me out of the ring and take the title shot all for yourself. Not really the actions of a team player. Taylor : Hoo boy, I understand how you might get a bit upset about that. But you see, it was all for the greater benefit of the Brigade! From my perspective , where I was standing, it looked like an even chance if you and Haynes would go out of the ring as it would be Jake Roberts. The Snake is so slippery, I couldn't take a chance that he might slide back into the match, but the only way to make sure he went out would mean tossing all of you from the match. And you always would tell me how a victory for one of the Brigade was a victory for all of us. (Rotunda scowls) So I just did what I had to and made sure that one of the Brigade, in this case me, would be the last one standing in the match. A win is a win, and now I am in a position to bring some gold to the Brigade! But hey, believe me, it wasn't selfish. In fact, while signing the contract for the TV Title match, I took it on myself to use my new influence to negotiate a special match for you guys tonight. Rotunda : YOU DID WHAT? Taylor : Relax , my man, it's all for the good! You and Big Dan here are going to have a tag match with the Royal Family, and the winner will face the Guerrero's at Phoenix Firestorm for the Golden State Tag Titles. And when you win both of those matches, that means more gold for the Brigade! I'm sure title shots for Tom and Al will soon follow. (Tom Zenk and Al Perez eye Taylor warily). And then there can be no denying that the Brigade is top group in all of wrestling, am I right? Texas Red vs. Dino Bravo Bravo's partner, Phil LaFleur, scored a big upset last week against the Spoiler, and the genial French Canadian was looking to keep their momentum going into their Tag Title shot at Phoenix Firestorm. Meanwhile, Texas Red was looking equally determined to put a stop to that winning streak. Bravo tried the same cat and mouse tactics his partner used so well in the previous match, and for the most part it worked, but whenever Red was able to land a shot on Bravo, it clearly took a toll. Bravo seemed like he might pull it off when he started to get Red up for the Airplane Spin, but the lanky Texan caught him in the space with a few flailing elbow shots. He then flattened Bravo with a flying lariat before going up top and landing a devastating flying elbow drop that got the three count. No matter how determined the French Revolution are going into the title match, the champions are going in looking strong. Match for a Golden State Tag Team Title Shot at Phoenix Firestorm : Mike Rotunda & Dan Spivey vs. The Royal Family Although they only just found out about this match earlier in the show, Rotunda and Spivey were keen to make the most of their opportunity and get a title shot at Phoenix Firestorm. They sure had their work cut out for them, as Boyd and Morgan were just as vicious as the other times they had faced the young Brigade members. Part way through the match, the Guerreros showed up at the back of the ring and observed the match, but they didn't interfere, merely watching impassively. Spivey looked like he was about to bring it home when he had Morgan lined up for a big Axe Bomber, but Morgan ducked just in the nick of time and came back with a huge lariat. He then swiftly tagged in Boyd and, while Morgan blocked Rotunda, Boyd hit a swinging neckbreaker to dispatch Spivey and take the title shot. The Brigade had fallen just short in their attempt to get the title match. The Guerreros, for their part, seemed hugely displeased at this result, and were clearly shaking their heads as they went back to the locker room. Roddy Piper vs. Ed Wiskowski At this point, Piper is so close to his title shot at Phoenix Firestorm that he can almost taste it. But he has one last obstacle in his way and that is the huge Polish Prince, Ed Wiskowski. Wiskowski clearly had no intention of letting Piper make it to Phoenix Firestorm in one piece, and seemed less interested in winning the match as doing as much damage to the Hot Scot as possible. For his part, Piper ducked and dodged as much as possible, but still ended up taking quite a pounding . Eventually, the Prince had Piper trapped in the corner and took off his boot, looking to whallop him with it, but Piper dropped out of the way , and Wiskowski ended up with the boot rebounding off the turnbuckle pad and smacking him hard in his own face. Quick as a cat, Piper caught him in a schoolboy roll up and got the pinfall. Piper swiftly dove out of the ring and dashed to the locker room before Wiskowski could try and get some receipts. Next and final stop for Piper : the cage in Phoenix and his title match with Buddy Rose.
  5. No worries, friend, happens to the best of us
  6. Good question
  7. AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Portland Memorial Coliseum , Portland , August 10th Al Perez & Tom Zenk vs. Mr. Hito & Masanobu Fuchi Zenk pinned Fuchi after a top rope missile dropkick The Marauders vs. Billy Jack Haynes & Tracey Smothers Matt Borne hit the Cannonball splash on Smothers to get the victory Terry Taylor vs. Mando Guerrero Taylor caught Mando with the Fivearm to pull off the upset win AWA Pacific TV Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers Garvin knocked Flowers out with the Hands Of Stone Punch Roddy Piper vs. Ed Wiskowski Both men went to a double countout while brawling outside the ring Buddy Rose & Doug Somers vs. Keiichi Yamada & The Cobra Rose caught Cobra in a nasty chop block to the knee from behind, setting up Somers to put him away with a Figure Four. Cobra's knee was clearly badly hurt during the match, and he had to be helped to the back by Yamada.
  8. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Portland Sports Arena, Portland , on ESPN / TSN , August 9th The Starr "Cousins" vs. The Hart Brothers These two teams have had some intense battles for the past few months, and both went at it full bore in this match. The Starrs pulled out all of the cheating stops to try and get over on the Harts, but the Brothers were equally determined to not go down to their hated rivals. The end came when Chicky backdropped Bruce over the top rope and turned around to congratulate himself, only for Bruce to catch himself on the ring apron. Chicky turned around and was caught by a slingshot cross body (assisted by a schoolboy trip from Keith) that got the victory for the Harts. It looks like the Harts are fighting fire with fire, and it was after this match that it was announced that the Hart Brothers would get an AWA World Tag Team Title match at Phoenix Firestorm. Butcher Vachon vs. Assassin #1 The Vachons and the Assassins have also been having some truly ferocious battles and, even in a singles match, the presence of their partners at ringside gave an aura of impending chaos. Butcher and #1 slugged it out for a while before their partners gave into the inevitable and joined in the fun, leading to a double DQ. If the double chain match at Phoenix Firestorm doesn't settle this score, nothing will. Ed Wiskowski vs. The Cobra The Polish Prince is currently engaging in a campaign to make sure that Roddy Piper doesn't make it to Phoenix Firestorm, while Cobra was gearing up for his tag match against the Starr "Cousins" with his partner Keiichi Yamada. Wiskowski looked to be out to make a statement as he brutalized his smaller opponent with jarring slams and throws. Cobra tried to fight back with his incredible speed and high flying, but whenever he got within reach of Wiskowski, the Prince would administer more punishment. He tried to climb to the top rope to try and take the big man down with some sort of flying move, but a huge clothesline from Wiskowski send him tumbling to the mat, landing badly on his knee. Smelling blood, the Prince gave a number of nasty kicks to Cobra's damaged leg before finishing him off with a face first piledriver. This was not enough for Wiskowski, as he kept attacking Cobra after the bell until Keiichi Yamada and Super Strong Machine rushed in to pull their partner out of danger. If Piper wants to make it to Phoenix Firestorm in one piece, he had a considerable roadblock to get past first by the name of Ed Wiskowski. Battle Royal for a shot at Ron Garvin's TV Title at Phoenix Firestorm : participants – Mike Rotunda, Dan Spivey, Tom Zenk, Al Perez, Terry Taylor , Rip Morgan, Jonathan Boyd, Chavo Guerrero, Hector Guerrero, Mando Guerrero, Matt Borne, Dick Slater, Billy Jack Haynes, Tracey Smothers, "Diamond" Timothy Flowers, Jake Roberts, Leo Burke, Super Strong Machine, Keiichi Yamada Stakes were incredibly high in this match, with a TV title shot at what is shaping up to be the biggest Pacific Coast of the year up for grabs. The battle royal featured many up and coming young stars looking to make their mark, as well as several hardened veterans eager to consolidate their position in the rankings. The action was hard hitting throughout, with many nasty spills taken to the outside. By the time it got down to 5 remaining combatants, Rip Morgan had Terry Taylor against the ropes and was raining down with brutal punches, while on the other side of the ring, Mike Rotunda and Billy Jack Haynes were trying mightily to hoist Jake Roberts over the top. Roberts, for his part, was struggling just as hard to stay in, holding on to both men with a double headlock, and it looked at several points as though they might all go out. Rip Morgan tried to put Taylor out for good with a big lariat, but Taylor yanked down the top rope at the last second, sending the New Zealander flying out of the ring and eliminating him. Taylor looked across the ring , saw the others teetering on the bring, and ducked under and used leverage to dump all three of them out of the match. Terry Taylor was the winner! Rotunda and Haynes looked at Taylor in confusion, while Roberts had a thoughtful look to his trademark evil smirk before he returned to the locker room. Rotunda got in the ring and asked Taylor what gives, but Taylor only replied with a diffident shrug and a smile, patting Rotunda on the back. Rotunda was scowling as he and Taylor left the ring together. Regardless, Taylor would be getting the shot against Ron Garvin at Phoenix Firestorm, possibly the biggest opportunity of his career.
  9. AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Victoria Memorial Arena, Victoria, August 3rd Terry Taylor vs. Chavo Guerrero Chavo won with the top rope flying somersault senton The Vachon Brothers vs. The Assassins A bloody battle that the Vachons were able to pull out with a double avalanche on Assassin #2 The Marauders vs. Billy Jack Haynes & Tracey Smothers Slater pinned Smothers after a piledriver Mr. Hito vs. Al Perez Perez got the victory with a German Suplex AWA Golden State Tag Team Title Match : Hector & Mando Guerrero © vs. Mike Rotunda & Dan Spivey Hector hit a running cross body press on Spivey to defend their titles Hulk Hogan vs. Nord The Barbarian Hogan won with an Axe Bomber AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Jake Roberts An intense brawl that ended up going to a double DQ
  10. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, on ESPN / TSN , August 2nd Mike Rotunda, Dan Spivey & Terry Taylor vs. The Guerrero Brothers After getting the win for the Brigade last week, Taylor certainly seemed to be feeling his oats this week. He was all fist and fire against the Guerreros, going at them with full intensity and clearly looking to prove that last week was no fluke. He even refused several opportunities to tag out, much to the consternation of his partners. This would turn out to be a costly mistake, as Taylor once again had Chavo lined up for the Fivearm, only for Chavo to dodge it at the last second and catch Taylor coming off the rebound with a kneelift. One German suplex later, and the Guerreros had evened up their previous loss. Rotunda and Spivey did their best to support their partner as they left the ring, but Taylor seemed incredibly upset at his loss. The Spoiler vs. Phil Lafleur With Spoiler and Texas Red set to defend their tag titles against the French Revolution at Phoenix Firestorm, this singles match gives a partial preview of that bout. Both men had their partners at ringside , and there was always a hint of danger in the air that they might get directly involved in the match. Spoiler attempted to dominate the match with his superior size and experience, but the considerable speed and agility of Lafleur meant that the young Canadian was difficult to keep down for two long. It seemed like it would be all over for Lafleur when Spoiler whipped him so hard into the corner that he tumbled out of the ring. Texas Red immediately swept in , looking to do some damage, only to find Dino Bravo blocking the way. The two men started jawing at each other, providing sufficient distraction to Spoiler that he didn't notice Lafleur ascending to the top turnbuckle. Lafleur caught him off guard with a flying cross body press that scored a shocking one two three. Lafleur had scored a major upset going into the Title match. After the match, it looked like the two teams might go at it in the ring, but the ref interceded, forcing the teams to head back to the locker room. Rip Morgan vs. Tom Zenk The newest member of the Embassy has made a big splash since he arrived in the Pacific Coast, and the Brigade have been at a loss to find a way to contain him. Tom Zenk did his best , trying hit and run tactics on the big New Zealander and hitting some impressive dropkicks, but eventually his luck ran out and Morgan caught him flat footed with a big lariat. Morgan stood him back up and took him down again with a Big Boot to the chest. With the addition of Morgan to their roster, the Embassy look like they just might be unstoppable. Ron Starr vs. Keiichi Yamada In another singles match that acts as a prelude to a tag match at Phoenix Firestorm, the gifted young Yamada squared off against the unpredictable Ron Starr. Usually in a singles match with a technical star like Yamada, Starr would bring his own considerable scientific wrestling skill to the fore, but this time out he went to full own brawling mode. Yamada was initially caught off guard but started firing back with some vicious kicks of his own. The battle went back and forth until Yamada caught Starr under the jaw with a palm thrust and just barely held him down for the count of three. You can bet this is just a taste of what is to come at Phoenix Firestorm when Yamada and Cobra will face both of the Starr "Cousins" . AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Jake Roberts Since arriving in the Pacific Coast, Roberts has made most of his attacks on Ron Garvin from ambush. He now had to face the man with the Hands Of Stone head on, and Garvin was clearly out for revenge. He came at the Snake with full velocity, but Roberts kept backpedaling out of the way, stalling and dodging for all he was worth. Garvin was able to land a few shots, but that just inspired Roberts to go to the gutter and take control with eye gouges and choke holds. When the ref tried to break it up, Jake hit him with a DDT that left him lying on the mat. Roberts and Garvin kept going at it until the ref finally recovered and called for a DQ win for Garvin. These two are an explosive combination and it is only a matter of time before they go off.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , on ESPN / TSN , July 26th Tom Zenk , Al Perez & Terry Taylor vs. The Guerrero Brothers It looks like whatever Mike Rotunda and Dan Spivey said to Terry Taylor last week was effective, as the Florida native is now stands with the Brigade in their match with the Guerreros. While Taylor is the newest member of the Brigade, he is actually the most seasoned, having a few years of experience on the other members. He showed considerable enthusiasm in the match, going all out when he was in the ring and calling to be tagged in when he was outside. He proved to be a clutch player when he was able to tag himself in just before Tom Zenk was caught by Chavo in a German Suplex. The ref refused to count the fall , and when Chavo got up to argue with the ref, Taylor blindsided him with a Fivearm that got the three count. A major upset win for the Brigade and they celebrated in the ring, congratulating their newest member for pulling it out for them. Billy Jack Haynes & Tracey Smothers vs. The Marauders In this rematch from last week, the Marauders once again focused their attention on young Smothers , battering him hard and bloodying his nose. This only seemed to bring out the fire in Smothers, who stared back defiantly at Borne and Slater and refused to go down. He then started firing back with lefts and rights on Borne, who seemed taken aback by this unexpected rally from the man from Tennessee. Smothers was able to fight the way back to make a hot tag, and Billy Jack blasted Borne with jarring power moves before a massive power slam. Slater came in to break up the pin, but Smothers snagged him by the ankle long enough to give Billy Jack the time to get the pinfall. Both sides would slug it out after the match, but this was a major coming out for Tracey Smothers. CanCon vs. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers & Jake Roberts Jake Roberts has lined himself up with the Diamond Starr Corporation in his attacks on Garvin and Burke, and nobody seems more creeped out by that than "Diamond" Timothy Flowers. Flowers was clearly wary of Roberts every time they tagged in and out, but Roberts didn't seem to care one way or the other. Deep into the match, Flowers was attempting a piledriver on Garvin, but Garvin was able to block it and counter with a backdrop. The moment he did that, Robert slithered into the ring and nailed Garvin with a DDT. Flowers was able to get the one two three, but seemed clearly unnerved by the experience. Chicky Starr vs. Keiichi Yamada Chicky Starr has proven himself in his brief time in Pacific Coast to be a master of dirty tactics. He showed this during his match with the young Japanese star, as a dropkick from Yamada caused Starr to "accidentally" collide with the ref. When Yamada went over to see if the ref was OK, he turned around to be ambushed with a nasty low blow kick from Starr … only for Yamada to block the kick and catch his leg, trapping Starr. Chicky had a panicked expression when Yamada took him down with a swift legsweep, and then applied the STF. Starr had no choice but give up the match. For once, Chicky Starr was one upped in a match. AWA Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Spoiler & Texas Red © vs. The French Revolution Ever since winning the Tag Titles, Spoiler and Red have dominated their opposition and looked unstoppable. Facing the team of Dino Bravo and Phil Lafleur, however, the champions faced a challenge unlike any they had faced before. Though they had only been teaming a brief time, the popular Quebecois duo worked together like they had been doing so their whole lives, showing an almost telepathic sense of when to tag each other out and keeping the champs off balance throughout the match. The champions were able to land some of their big moves, but the Revolution was always able to tag out before a pinfall attempt could be made. Bravo was even able to catch Red in an Airplane Spin and then drop him to the match, quickly covering him only for Spoiler to break up the pin. Just in the nick of time, too, as soon afterwards the bell rang, signaling a 15 minute time limit draw. After the match, it was announced that a rematch had been scheduled for Phoenix Firestorm.
  14. Paid dearly for the Guerreros but was completely worth it. Love them and know I can throw them in anywhere and get a great match.
  15. AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Oakland Alameda County Arena, Oakland, July 20th Can-Con & The Hart Brothers vs. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers, Jake Roberts & The Starr "Cousins" Roberts pinned Keith Hart after a DDT Terry Taylor vs. Mr. Hito Taylor won with the Fivearm Mike Rotunda & Dan Spivey vs. The Royal Family Rip Morgan hit a lariat on Spivey to score the victory Chavo Guerrero vs. Keiichi Yamada Both men went to a 20 minute time limit draw AWA Golden State Tag Team Title Match : Hector & Mando Guerrero © vs. Tom Zenk & Al Perez Mando hit a German Suplex on Zenk to successfully defend their titles Hulk Hogan vs. Nord The Barbarian Hogan had hit the Big Leg Drop and went for the pin, but Larry Zbyszko rushed in the ring and attacked him with the megaphone, leading to a DQ win for Hogan The Buddy Rose Army vs. Roddy Piper & The Vachon Brothers Piper executed a piledriver on Doug Somers to pull out the win for his team in a crazy bout
  16. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Cow Palace, San Francisco , July 19th The Royal Family vs. Blake Towsley and Brian Corridan Last week, a mysterious bearded man interfered in the Embassy's match with the Brigade. It turns out, this was Jonathan Boyd's cousin Rip Morgan (there sure are a lot of relatives in Pacific Coast Wrestling) , and they have formed their own duo within the Embassy called the Royal Family. Boyd pretty much let Morgan have the run of the match, and the huge New Zealander tore Corridan to pieces, with huge clotheslines, powerslams and a Big Boot, before Boyd came in to polish him off with a neckbreaker. The Brigade are likely to be scrambling to find a way to deal with this dangerous new element to their feud with the Embassy. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers vs. Leo Burke Burke found himself distracted early in the match by the appearance of Jake Roberts, who showed up to stand in the corner of Flowers. Strangely, Flowers seemed just as unnerved by Roberts' presence, even though the Snake seemed to be backing him. Ultimately, this drew the attention of Ron Garvin, who came out to get in the face of Roberts. As the two threw down, this proved to be the ultimate distraction for Burke , who looked about to join his partner Garvin against Roberts. Flowers was canny enough to capitalize, ambushing Burke with a kneelift followed by a piledriver to get the pinfall. As they left the ring Roberts put his arm around Flowers and grinned evilly, all while Flowers was visibly creeped out. Terry Taylor vs. Brandon Bellinger Taylor is a handsome newcomer from Vero Beach , Florida, who has several years experience in various territories before coming to Pacific Coast. He had no problem at all with Bellinger, easily dominating him throughout the match before finishing with a running forearm that he called the Fivearm. Towards the end of the match, Mike Rotunda and Dan Spivey came down to the ring and looked keen to have a word with Taylor. Sure enough, it looks like they are trying to recruit him into their fight with the Embassy. Taylor seemed primarily concerned with shaking hands with the cheering fans, but was listening to what they had to say. Time will tell what comes of this. The Marauders vs. Billy Jack Haynes and Tracey Smothers Speaking of recruits, Smothers has turned to be a willing recruit in Haynes' war with the Marauders. Borne and Slater gave a brutal beating to young Smothers, keeping him in their corner for much of the match. Full credit to Smothers, he kept coming back against the Marauders, no matter what they did to him. Eventually , Haynes could take no more and charged into the ring. He and Borne went at it fist and fury and the ref's efforts to separate the two was rewarded with a nasty double punch. A double DQ was the result but Haynes was able to clear Slater and Borne from the ring before he was able to help Smothers to his feet and assist him to the back. Roddy Piper vs. Doug Somers Roddy Piper is scheduled to face Buddy Rose in a cage for the Heavyweight title at Phoenix Firestorm, but Rose has tasked the rest of the Army with making sure that he doesn't get there. First up is the Pretty Boy Doug Somers, who relentlessly went after the Hot Scot with vicious low blows and cheap shots. Piper, no stranger to cheap shots himself, seemed somewhat taken aback at the intensity of Somers' attacks but kept fighting back against the Pretty Boy. Somers looked like he might pull off the upset when he set Piper up for the brainbuster, but Piper was able to block it and counter with a belly to back suplex to score the three count. Despite the loss, Somers kept after Piper post match, and the two had to be separated by several referees.
  17. I love regional titles and Wahoo makes a great choice for Rocky Mountain champ.
  18. AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Portland Memorial Coliseum , Portland , July 13th The Embassy vs. The Brigade The match completely broke down with all men in the ring fighting at once. In the middle of the match, Rotunda once again had Boyd set up for the Samoan Drop, but this time, an unknown man entered the ring and clipped Rotunda's leg from behind. The intruder, a large bearded man, then stood Rotunda up and ran at him, taking him down with a Big Boot to the chest. When the ref finally turned around, he could only see Boyd covering Rotunda and made the three count, giving the win to the Embassy. Tracy Smothers vs. Matt Borne Smothers put in a courageous effort against Borne, but in the end the more experienced Borne caught him in a powerslam, then followed up with the Cannonball Splash for the win. After the match, Borne and Dick Slater tried to do more damage to Smothers, but Billy Jack rushed out with a chair to run them off. He then helped Smothers up and to the back. The Assassins vs. The Vachon Brothers The Vachons hit the kneedrop- backbreaker combo on Assassin # 2 to pull out the victory. Both sides continued to fight after the end of the match. AWA Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Spoiler & Texas Red © vs. The Hart Brothers Texas Red caught Keith Hart in a chokeslam to successfully defend their titles. King Kong Bundy vs. Hulk Hogan Bundy unleashed all of his massive offense on the former World champion, but Hogan was able to weather out the storm and take him down with an Axe Bomber, following it up with the Big Leg Drop for a hard fought victory. The Buddy Rose Army vs. Roddy Piper & The French Revolution Throughout the match, Rose gave orders to Somers and Wiskowski to go after Piper, but he just kept slipping out of their grasp. Somers tried to execute the Brainbuster on him , but Piper countered with a small package and got the one two three. The Army then tried to swarm him, but Piper deftly dodged out of the ring, pointing at Rose and saying that he was coming for his belt.
  19. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Portland Sports Arena, Portland , on ESPN / TSN , July 12th Jake Roberts vs. Ibrehem Rahman Last week, Jake Roberts appeared out of nowhere to ambush Leo Burke and send a message to Ron Garvin. He made his in ring Pacific debut by coming out with a large bag over his shoulder containing some sort of wriggling mass. The match was over pretty much as soon as it started, as Jake immediately grabbed Rahman and executed the DDT on him, followed by a rather perfunctory three count. But Jake was not done, as he untied the bag and revealed its contents : a very large python, which Roberts proceeded to drape over the unconscious Rahman. As the python slithered over Rahman's prone form, Roberts grinned evilly at the audience. There is a scary new presence in Pacific Coast Wrestling, and all the wrestlers there had best watch their backs. Mike Rotunda vs. Johnathan Boyd Whenever members of the Brigade and the Embassy face each other, all the other members show up in force. This match was no different as both men's colleagues massed in their respective corners, watching for any sign of potential interference from the other side. Rotunda and Boyd went at it fiercely, with Rotunda's amateur expertise balancing Boyd's wealth of experience. Ultimately, Boyd attempted an over the shoulder neckbreaker, only for Rotunda to block it and get him up in a fireman's carry, the send him to the mat in a Samoan Drop to get the pinfall. The Guerrero Brothers looked set to get some post-match revenge on the Brigade, but Boyd waved them off , smiling as he whispered something in their ears. The Guerreros started to smile themselves at what he said to them. Clearly the Embassy has something dastardly planned for the Brigade, but what? The Cobra vs. Chicky Starr In an unusual tactic, Chicky seemed to be waging war on Cobra's mask. Any time he could get the advantage in the match, he would start unlacing the mask from the back of Cobra's head and start pulling on it. This proved to be a very canny plan, as Cobra spent much of the match trying to keep the mask from coming off, considerably hampering his offense. At one point, Chicky yanked hard on the loosened mask, blocking Cobra's vision. The ref tried to interpose himself between the two, but a widely swinging Cobra accidentally punched him in the face. The ref called for the bell the moment he was able to recover, giving the victory by DQ to Chicky Starr. A dirty win, but you don't really expect otherwise from the Starr "Cousins". Tracy Smothers vs. Jim Lynch With the influx of new wrestlers, one of the most exciting is the "Wild Eyed Southern Boy" Tracy Smothers, a young firebrand hailing from Springfield, TN. Smothers was all over Lynch and didn't let him get a single move in before easily polishing him off with the Jawjacker, a spinning flying elbow from the top turnbuckle. Smothers eagerly shook hands with the crowd both before and after the match, winning over many fans with his easygoing charm. Time will tell if this will help him in the always tough competition of Pacific Coast Wrestling. Interview : Frank Bonnema stands in the ring Bonnema : Ladies and gentleman, my next guest continues to be the Pacific Heavyweight Champion … "Playboy" Buddy Rose! The crowd boos as Rose, joined as always by Ed Wiskowski and Doug Somers, walks to the ring. He doesn't have his cocky strut going this time, though, and sports a black eye and badly swollen lip from last week's attack by Roddy Piper. Bonnema : Buddy Rose, it's a bit of a surprise to see you show your, er, face, after what Piper did to you last week. Rose : (his voice unusually low, solemn and trembling) Piper, you coward, you have showed me what you are. You couldn't face me head on, so you could only take me with a sneak attack. You couldn't beat me with your fists, so you could only do it with a weapon . ( Rose opens up his robe and shows several vicious looking welts and bruises on his ribs and abdomen) You take out my good friend, "Crippler" Rip Oliver, and now I find out that I have to face you in a cage at the end of August for the Phoenix Firestorm. Well nice job, Piper, you got my attention. But now you are going to have to be made to see the consequences of that. You see, the Crippler may be gone, but I still have two good friend (pointing to Somers and Wiskowski) who will be more than happy to cripple you for me. (Both men nod eagerly as Rose talks directly to them.) I want his legs broken . I want his ribs kicked in. I want him in traction. Take him out before Phoenix Firestorm. And Piper, you will end up weeping bitter tears any time you think of the time you dared to cross the Playboy! Larry Zbyszko & Nord The Barbarian vs. Super Strong Machine & ?? ?? Larry and Nord , along with their manager KY Wakamatsu, seemed especially smug as they headed to the ring, confident that they could take care of Machine's partner, regardless of if it were Cobra or Keiichi Yamada. Machine came out on his own, and the ring announcer was at a loss as to what to do next. Machine then whispered into his ear, and he seemed even more confused. At first it looked like he was having a hard time making out Machine's Japanese accent, but it became clear that he just couldn't believe what he was being told. Machine then whispered in his ear again and simply nodded when the announcer asked if it was true. The ring announcer then got back on the microphone and announced Machine's partner … from Venice Beach, California … HULK HOGAN!!!! The crowd exploded in cheers as the former World Champion charged to the ring, while Larry and Nord panicked as they realized just what they had signed up for. Hogan swiftly lariated Nord out of the ring, then headed to ringside and started raining down big punches on the Barbarian while Machine stared down Larry. Zbyszko, realizing that for the first time in a long while he had no back up, fell to his knees and started pleading with the masked man. Machine showed no mercy as he laced into Larry with some nasty kicks, followed by a series of jarring suplexes. He then executed the Devil Windmill Suplex, but instead of going for the pin, he hoisted Larry up in a double chicken wing. Zbyszko screamed and begged for mercy before giving up the match, at which point Super Strong Machine let him drop like a ragdoll face first to the mat. Hogan came back in the ring and held up his partner's arm in victory before daring their opponents to come back in for a second helping, but Wakamatsu's men fled to the locker room. The crowd went crazy cheering on the Hulkster and the Machine and Hogan did his hand to the ear routine. With all of the changes happening in Pacific Coast Wrestling, this one is a real game changer.
  20. I had Slater and Borne as a team called the Marauders in the last days of the 1983 project, I never felt I got to use them to their full potential and liked them so much that I jumped at the opportunity to bring them together. For my tag team and stable names, I tend to steal from movies and other pop culture. The Marauders was taken from a group of comic book villains responsible for the Morlock Massacre in the X-Men. I thought it was evocative of what a team of Slater and Borne would be like : brutal, dangerous, and a bit crazy.
  21. I so want to see Ray Stevens behind the wheel of that Camaro.
  22. AWA Pacific Wrestling show from the Victoria Memorial Arena, Victoria, July 6th Four Corners Tag Team Match : The Cobra & Keiichi Yamada vs. Mr. Hito & Masanobu Fuchi vs. The Starr "Cousins" vs. The Hart Brothers 1st Fall : Keiichi Yamada hit a flying reverse bodypress on Fuchi to eliminate Fuchi and Hito 2nd Fall : Chicky Starr hit a low blow from behind on Yamada, allowing Ron Starr to cover him and eliminate Yamada and Cobra 3rd Fall : Keith Hart hit a flying forearm on Chicky Starr to eliminate the Starr "Cousins" and win the match The Guerreros vs. Mike Rotunda, Dan Spivey & Al Perez Mando pinned Perez with a German Suplex The Marauders vs. Billy Jack Haynes & Phil Hickerson With Haynes injured and wearing a neck collar, Borne and Slater dismantled poor Hickerson, putting him away with a cannonball splash by Borne and even hitting a Spike Piledriver after the match. Hickerson had to be taken out on a stretcher Roddy Piper vs. Rip Oliver Oliver came out with his knee bandaged from the nightstick attack by a masked man who later turned out to be Roddy Piper. Piper constantly went after Oliver's leg, mangling it with vicious attacks before finally forcing him to give up to a figure four leglock. After the match, when Oliver was struggling to get back up, Piper kicked his leg out from under him. AWA Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Rock & Roll Express © vs. The Spoiler & Texas Red Before the match started, the Rock & Rolls were ambushed by Doug Somers and Ed Wiskowski , who slammed Morton face first into the ring post. Morton wrestled the whole match with a gash in his forehead and blood streaming down his face. Gibson tried to wrestle as much of the match on his own as he could, but being outnumbered by such huge opponents proved to be too much for him. Morton eventually tagged himself in, but his bravery could not overcome the damage already done to him. Red stood him up, grabbed him by his bloody hair, and administered the Heart Punch. One two three and that was it. The Spoiler and Texas Red are the new AWA Pacific Tag Champs. AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. "Diamond" Timothy Flowers Garvin's partner Leo Burke was at ringside for this return title match. Flowers was attempting a piledriver when Garvin countered with a small package for the pinfall. But while this was happening, somebody grabbed Burke on the outside and gave him a DDT on the concrete. It was Jake "The Snake" Roberts! The Snake stayed long enough to give an evil grin to Garvin when he saw what had happened, then disappeared into the night.
  23. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, on ESPN / TSN , July 5th The Marauders vs. Willard Smith & James Miller The Marauders are the new team of Matt Borne and Dick Slater. Slater's influence has seemed to have opened up a sadistic streak in Borne, as the once popular favorite brutalized both Smith and Miller. The two rookies never stood a chance, and Slater swiftly hit Smith with a powerslam before Borne came off the top with the Cannonball to finish him off. But the Marauders didn't have long to gloat over their victory, as Billy Jack Haynes and Phil Hickerson rushed out to the ring and attacked them. This wound up proving to be a very poor decision on the part of Haynes, as he was wearing a neck collar from his previous injury, leading to him being taken out with a nasty clothesline to the back of the neck by Borne. The Marauders then gave a harsh beatdown to Hickerson until security came out and cleared them from the ring. AWA Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Rock & Roll Express vs. Ed Wiskowski & Doug Somers Although they did take a loss last week, the Buddy Rose Army are always dangerous in any combination. For this match, the Polish Prince would be teaming with the always devious Doug Somers, and the pair gave the champs a real run for their money. The powerful Wiskowski battered and bullied the Express, while Somers always knew what to sneak in and cut off any comeback by the champions. Wiskowski looked about to do some real damage when he whipped Morton hard into the corner and charged in for a lariat, only for Morton to dodge out of the way and catch him with a roll up, getting a very fast 3 count. Wiskowski was furious, but the ref stood by his decision, and the Polish Prince was left in the ring swearing vengeance. Chavo Guerrero vs. Tom Zenk Both the Brigade and the Embassy were out in full force to cheer their respective representatives on. They eyed each other warily throughout the match and there was always a hint that one side or the other might make their presence felt on the match action itself. This never came to pass as Chavo and Zenk had a close technical match. It seemed like Zenk might take it when he had Chavo lined up for the missile dropkick, but it turned out the more experienced Guerrero was just luring him in and dodged at the last moment. He then hit the flying somersault senton and got the victory. After the match , tensions looked like they might boil over as the Embassy looked set to deal some additional damage to Zenk, while the Brigade looked just as determined to make sure no such thing took place. The two sides bumped chests until the ref called in security to separate the two sides and send them back to the locker room. The ref then ordered security guards stay at different spots near the ring to make sure there was no outside interference for the rest of the show. AWA Pacific Television Title Match : Ron Garvin © vs. Chicky Starr With the added security presence at ringside , neither man in this match bothered bringing CanCon or the Diamond Starr Corporation to ringside. Chicky Starr was the first challenger for Garvin's newly won TV title. He kept a string of dirty tactics going against the champ. But the popular Garvin was not easily flustered and kept his cool, blasting back with fiery fists and scientific takedowns. Garvin tried to finish him off with a Sunset Flip , but Chicky blocked it, then pulled some brass knucks on his hands and tried to slug him in the face with it. But Garvin had him well scouted, and dodged the blow, and Chicky wound up driving his own hand hard into the mat. The knucks flew off and Chicky tried to grab for them, but by now Garvin had gotten to his feet and proceeded to stomp hard on Chicky's already damaged hand. He then gave the Garvin Stomp to Chicky before locking him in the figure four, forcing him to give up the match. Garvin is clearly serving notice that he is a champion that will be hard to beat. AWA Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Buddy Rose © vs. Dino Bravo Speaking of hard to beat champions, it has been seemingly impossible to take the Heavyweight Title from around Rose's pasty waist. Many contenders have looked like have had him dead to rights, but the Playboy has come out with the title every single time. This time, he would defend against one half of the French Revolution, the beloved French-Canadian Dino Bravo. The experience Bravo certainly took it to Rose, with the Playboy doing his traditional stalling and backpedaling throughout the match. Bravo was trying to set up Rose for the airplane spin, but Rose's flailing elbows managed to catch Bravo in the face and he was forced to drop him. Rose then swiftly caught him in a schoolboy rollup, assisted by a double handful of trunks, and managed to keep his shoulders down for the one two three. After the match, Frank Bonnema interviewed Rose from ringside. Bonnema : Well , you certainly seem especially smug today, Buddy Rose. Rose : What you call smug, Bonnema, is simply a calculated and accurate appraisal of my own abilities as a champion. Nobody has come close to taking this title off me. Billy Jack Haynes? He's not going to be getting close to a title shot for a long while. Chris Adams? I sent that limey packing! And now they are sending tag wrestlers after me! Face it, I have gone through all of the contenders and come out on top. The Playboy is going to be the champ for a long … Buddy Rose was cut off as a security guard grabbed him from behind and dragged him over the guard rail. The guard rained down blows with his nightstick on Rose, administering a vicious and brutal beating on the champ. Eventually the other guards rushed over to stop him, but by then he had dashed off to the back. Before he disappeared completely, he took off his cap and showed who he truly was … "ROWDY" RODDY PIPER! The Hot Scot had made his return and placed his bid for a title shot in the most spectacular and violent way imaginable. Security helped Rose to his feet and to the back but clearly a lot of damage had been done.

As both teams brawled, Eric Embry snuck in the ring and tried to attack Garvin, but Garvin dodged out of the way and Embry hit Flowers instead. Garvin tossed Embry out of the ring, then nailed Flowers with the Hands Of Stone Punch for the pinfall. Garvin became the new AWA Pacific Television Champion. After the match, Flowers and the Starrs beat down Embry and left him laying in the ring. Tournament finals for the vacant AWA Golden State Tag Team Titles : Mike Rotunda & Dan Spivey vs. Hector & Mando Guerrero In a long, tense match, Hector was ultimately able to catch Spivey in the Guerrero Clutch to score the victory. The Guerrero Brothers became the first ever AWA Golden State Tag Team Champions.
  25. Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , June 28th The French Revolution vs. Rip Oliver & Ed Wiskowski The duo of Dino Bravo and Phil Lafleur have been picking up momentum of late, but the French Revolution certainly had their work cut out for them facing two of the Buddy Rose Army. The Polish Prince towered over both of the French-Canadians and Oliver seemed to know every dirty trick in the book. The pair relentlessly double teamed the Revolution throughout the match until the ref finally took a stand and demanded Wiskowski return to his corner. That's when things got really strange, as a man in a black mask appeared out of nowhere and dashed into the ring, whaloping Oliver in the knee with a nightstick before diving out as quickly as he came in. The ref didn't see this but Wiskowski did, and he tore off after the masked stranger. This left Oliver hobbled and alone in the ring with the Revolution, who looked baffled by what happened but took advantage nonetheless, hitting a side slam and flying legdrop combo that got the three count. Only time will tell who this mystery man is who looks set to bedevil the Army. Interview : Frank Bonnema stands in the ring Bonnema : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is someone whose recent actions certainly need some explaining … Jonathan Boyd! The crowd boos as Boyd heads out, clutching the New Zealand flag and looking as belligerent as ever Bonnema : Jonathan Boyd, it looked like you had joined forces with the California Connection against the Brigade, but your actions have sent them out of Pacific Coast Wrestling. What on earth are you up to? Boyd : What makes you think I care about the California Connection? I've been a champion in 36 countries, mate! I can deal with those snot nosed pups in the Brigade, and I certainly don't need some greaseball and his cowpoke cronies getting in my way! Bonnema : The Brigade may be young, but they are strong and talented wrestlers, and there are four of them. How do you figure on taking them all on by yourself? Boyd : I've always got a plan, Bonnema. I have just the people I need to join my Embassy and take it to those pretty boys … the Guerrero Brothers. The crowd's booing goes to an even higher level as Mando, Chavo and Hector Guerrero come out, waving Mexican flags and laughing maniacally. Hector : Hey, boooooyyyys! You call yourself the Brigade? Well you're going to wish you dodged the draft when you gotta deal with me and my brothers! The Embassy is going to take you kids to school, and believe me, you're going to learn a lesson you will never forget! Boyd : And I've got one more surprise in store, but they are just going to have to wait to see what it is! Super Strong Machine vs. Nord The Barbarian The masked Japanese star has been driven to distraction of late, having to deal with Nord and his partner Larry Zbyszko at the same time. Any time he faced one, the other would stick his nose in. This match was no different, as Machine was able to get the huge Barbarian against the ropes with his vicious kicks, only for Larry to charge in with KY Wakamatsu's megaphone. This led to a DQ win for Machine, but Larry and Nord didn't seem to care as they put the boots to him. When the ring was finally cleared, a furious Machine got on the mike and started screaming in Japanese. When a translator was found, it turned out that Machine was challenging Nord and Larry to face him and a partner of his choosing in two weeks in Portland, a challenge the two gleefully accepted. Bruce Hart vs. Ron Starr The Harts and the Starrs have been intensely feuding in tag matches, but this singles match was a largely technical affair with no interference from their partners. The pendulum of momentum swung back and forth throughout this match, with both men seeming like they could take the win at many points. Bruce was ultimately able to score the pinfall by countering an attempted lariat with a crucifix. The Hart Family prevailed this time, but you can bet the Starrs will do everything they can to even the score. Interview : Frank Bonnema stands in the ring Bonnema : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest have recently been in the middle of a lot of controversy in Pacific Coast Wrestling … Matt Borne and Dick Slater! The crowd explodes in boos as Borne and Slater, both with intense looks on their faces, stride out to the ring. Bonnema : Matt Borne, you had a series of vicious matches with Dick Slater, but now, you are taking sides with Slater and stab your best friend, Billy Jack Haynes, in the back! What is your problem? Borne : Friend? FRIEND? Haynes was never any friend to me. When he was too much of a weakling to take on Dick Slater, they throw me into the line of fire instead. And when he comes back, does he shoulder his share of the matches? No, he just helps himself to title shots with Buddy Rose, leaving me to fight his battles for him. He buddies up with Phil Hickerson and just forgets everything I've done for him. The one time I can rope him into a tag match against Slater and Boyd, he just wanders off to go after Rose again, leaving me alone to try to deal with his feud for him. Well, I'm done being Billy Jack's patsy. Dick Slater has earned my respect, Billy Jack has not, and I know where my loyalties lie from now on! Slater : The deal is this, Bonnema. I came to Pacific Coast Wrestling to get some lumps on that muscle head Billy Jack Haynes. But Haynes was such a lightweight, he went down from one shot. And while he is sitting at home in bed, like the coward he is, they keep putting me in matches with Matt Borne. Match after Match, Matt Borne, Matt Borne, Matt Borne. Like he said, even when Haynes came back, he keeps ducking me and sending me against Matt. I gave Matt the worst beatings of his life, and he gave me the same. So when it comes time for the Seattle Showdown, do I finally get in the ring with Billy Jack? No! They put me against Matt Borne. Well, I ain't never had no problem with Matt Borne! Matt is the toughest son of a gun I have ever faced. So I said , Hell no! I didn't even bother to show up for that match. Instead, Matt and I talked, man to man, and guess what? He is just as sick of Billy Jack Haynes as I am! So we formed a partnership. Haynes, you are going to regret ducking me. Because when the Marauders get a hold of you, we are going to put you and Hickerson out of action for good! Loser Leaves Town Match for the AWA Pacific Heavyweight Title : Buddy Rose © vs. Chris Adams Ever since winning the Heavyweight Title in a tournament, Buddy Rose has kept an iron tight grip on the belt. Challenger after challenger have gone after the title, but by hook or by crook, Rose has come out with the title snug around his waist. "Gentleman" Chris Adams has had to put his standing in the Pacific Coast territory on the line in order to get this title shot and, with his back to the wall, the popular Englishman was determined to make it count. He kept coming after Rose with punches and suplexes, trying to set him up for the Superkick, but the Playboy kept wriggling out of his grasp. Every time Adams seemed close to putting away Rose, Buddy would find some way of escaping. Adams finally whipped Rose hard into the corner and came in for an Avalanche, only for Rose to get his knee up at the last second and hit a nasty low blow on Adams. He then draped his feet over the ropes while the clueless ref made the count, sending poor Chris out of Pacific Coast Wrestling. Can anyone beat the Playboy at this point?
