Dave's opinion is shaped by his sources. If Foley's first book is anything to go by, then "overpushed, egocentric mediocre worker" would probably be the viewpoint being pushed by his World Class sources at the time.
In his shoot Embry was extremely hurt about what Foley wrote in his book where it was portrayed that Embry dedicated that Foley would be jobbed in seconds in his final match for the company while Eric said that if Foley was unhappy he should have spoke up as he would have worked it out.
Embry was having great matches, got over, and got the Sportatorium drawing well again, climaxing in the first sellout in years for the aforementioned match w/ P.Y. Chu'Hi that led to him and Pringle tearing down the WCCW banner.
He had a bad case of bookeritis and nobody had any reason to expect anything he did to work, but it did.
Keller and Mitchell thought Embry was excellent at preaching to the converted but couldnt gain the promotion one extra fan.
-
I thought conventional newsletter wisdom was Embry was an overpushed, egocentric mediocre worker. That was definitively the reference points I had going into Disc 9/10 of the Texas set. Bruce Mitchell and Wade Keller recently talked about him on audio while lauding him as a pretty good talker and a poster boy for the power of self belief in wrestling there still was tittering going on.

For those of you that arent subscribers Bryan posted this interview with Humpy at the time I thought it was a refreshingly pleasant interview with a very nice man:

Vince's odd reference to "partying that night day" is pretty much carny for coke isnt it.
He's said something similar in the past about how it was the 80s and all that entails.
Not sure that Vince cops to doing any of that stuff in the 90s.
John
Oh yeah I remember that promo Vince cut backstage sitting down with Shawn at the beginning of their Mania feud
-
Listening to Radican's review of it on the Torch two things popped up:
Vince's odd reference to "partying that night day" is pretty much carny for coke isnt it.
While Piper kind of get the shaft for someone so important for the first two Manias at least and as someone on a Legend deal with WWE.
-
You wonder what that means for Cena-Miz? Will Miz win?
-
Not that I was expecting any different but did anyone guffaw at the 93,000 claim being brought up after all these years and wikipedia edits?
One of the real highlights is previously unaired backstage footage from Wrestlemania IX. Vince shows Luger how he wants his entrance to look. And of course they have a clip of Bret asking where all the girls are.
Hogan and Gonzalez shaking hands is pretty cool.
Wasnt expecting Vince to put Bam Bam over so strong for his performance with LT.
-
I hadn't heard/forgot about that!
But with ROH now without TV, you're not going to bury a meal ticket that you might need in the future. He didnt take part in last year's Writers week on F4W as he was in talks with WWE.
-
According to Dave on the latest Observer Radio show, the reason why TNA management were caught so flat footed was that Jeff turned up to the show "fine enough" (by his standards), worked out the whole match with Sting, then after the show had already started "whatever happened happened".
Knowing this what you think he took? Likely to wrestle and semi-fast acting.

I think the "Vince and Steph are really nice people talking point" usually comes from ex writers who under the right circumstances would want their old jobs back. Though I do think Steph has genuinely mellowed out over the years now that she doesn't have to fight for everyone's respect. Vince on the other hand seems more volatile than ever.
You have to remember this time last year Lagana had serious talks with WWE about coming back
-
Certionly out of leftfield
Kurt still probably hasnt recovered from the shock.
Bix listen to this:

Please bring this up on Slammin Stan

Dr. Lucha and Cubs Fan on F4W said Rey is happier in WWE than he has been in a long time although he wouldnt mind having new knees.

Paul Miller provides an interesting and logical reply:
By this rationale, Sabu should be in the WON HOF. Sayama was only in New Japan for two years (in a day and age where almost every show wasn't taped for broadcast), the guys who really deserve the credit for keeping that division alive are those that kept it going for the six years until Liger took off as Liger.
If you actually watch the New Japan 80's set instead of going off memories, you would see what those guys are talking about.

It is from Wrestling World Newsletter who have broken news before while also responsible for the Dawn Marie is a scam artist stuff

As mentioned in the Benoit story, he blew up following that horrible match on ECW three weeks ago featuring Marquis Cor Von, Elijah Burke and CM Punk. You'll recall, the one where he tried a spot twice with Von Cor, and after it failed twice he gave up and tagged back out. Benoit's role was to be a coach for the young guys and he was expected to give them his honest thoughts about their work, but this was a major freak-out. Some people will say it was a warning sign about what was going to happen, but when I watched that match and the look on his face afterwards, I thought I would have done the exact same thing. The finish was botched, which is also why Benoit ran wild with the Germans and the headbutt on Elijah afterwards. Von Cor really didn't get out of the ring fast enough and so the ref felt he was forced to call for the DQ. The insanity in WWE has reached a new level as the refs are now being FINED if they make a bad call or are forced to look stupid. In other words, if you're a heel who wants to cheat, you've got to legit distract the ref so he really doesn't see you, because if he does, he has to DQ you out of fear that he'll be fined otherwise. I am not making this up.
-
Chris Nowinski talking to Bill Simmons this week claimed that Benoit's colleagues had told him after his death that his memory had slipped so much that he had stopped planning his matches ahead of time and started calling all his matches by the fly instead.
Am I the only one seeing the irony ?
So do you think that ECW match were Benoit had the tantrum in was scripted or called in the ring?
