  1. He was nominated. He's just showed up on the countdown.
  2. Ugh. Was hoping to get Nishimura in the Top 200. So close.
  3. This is the perfect counter weight to Triple H(or Hogan or whoever a person hates) not dropping yet. Buzz possibly getting into the Top 200(maybe 150!) has me very excited.
  4. I voted Mutoh so hiiiiiiiiigh. I'm with you. if you distill the Invasion down to it's essence it would look like the horrible booking of DDP by making him nothing like the guy that drew money or made anyone happy. Even as a heel in WCW DDP still felt like DDP.. When he pulled that fucking mask off in WWE I knew instantly he was done.
  5. I only just found out about this project a week before ballots were due, and I found myself quickly falling into this same kind of trap. I realized I didn't have a great barometer for how to formulate such a list. I started fighting with nostalgia with "hard evidence" and fighting that with gut feelings. And the whole time everything was getting mucked up when I'd read Matt or Dylan's opinion about something. In the end I had to go with whatever I thought sounded good at the time, and my major reaction to this countdown is that even that tactic was a failure. Basically what I've learned from this project is that making lists is a dumb and fruitless hardship- one that instills nothing but shame and heartache over what used to be feelings joy and wonderment.
  6. I think it's weird to rank people on your own list when you don't actually like their work, but because you want to acknowledge that they did well for other people. The concept of approaching objectivity when ranking wrestlers turns me off like discussion about who was a draw in regards to a WON Hall of Fame ballot. Brian Kendrick getting a #9 vote because someone loves the fuck out of some Kendrick is way more exciting and joyful to me, than someone ranking Triple H because he did well in da biz despite not really floating their boat. That being said, my line of thought leads to weird shit like this: I fucking hated Jerry Lynn because I thought it was lame everyone was calling him the New F'n Show when The Whole F'n Show was more than enough F'n Show, and of course I thought Rob Van Dam was like the best dude in the world at the time. I won't even go back and watch his shit because I'm like "Not as good as Van Dam." and I'm not even a big Van Dam mark any more. This is somewhat similar to why I didn't vote for Super Crazy because of Tajiri allegiances in a fake wrestling feud. I picked a side, man. I can't go back.
  7. I liked Warrior as a kid, and I still enjoy some of his matches today. Goldberg had some very cool squashes and some of them are very memorable. Like his stuff with Glacier. I don't remember much of Warrior's squashes outside of HTM, and that's because of the angle more than what they did in the match itself. Even though my fandom of Warrior was much greater I'd still say Goldberg was better at wrestling. Promos it's Warrior all day though.
  8. Shingo was at one point my favorite DG guy back in 2007 when he was in New Hazard. Holy crap that was 9 years ago. He fell off a lot after that, and that had a lot to do with DG singles matches failing to be as good as the tags and trios.
  9. Marufuji would maybe be in my 150. My problem with him is that some of his big time matches fall flat or suffer from overkill and there are times when he'll sleepwalk through his smaller matches. I do like that he gets pretty creative, even if some of his creations fail at least he's experimenting.
  10. I sort of wish I ranked Matt Borne higher. In 1993 he was maybe the best competitive TV match and squash match worker the WWE had. I highly value the art of the squash match and Borne would clown dudes in the most creative ways. It never felt like you were watching the same match twice like with other "superstars". And any guy who gets over a clown gimmick as a technical wrestler pyscho is Top Fucking Notch in my book. Kudos to all those who ranked Gannosuke. I really wish I'd ranked him. When I got my first comp tape of Hayabusa, Gannosuke was the guy that really shined. Alberto Del Rio is one of my favorite wrestlers in the world when he's on. Even when he was booked like an after thought I thought, within a vaccum his matches were the best laid out works on the card. I haven't really liked his work since his return and I fucking hate that finisher in the corner. It goes against all the good game plan work he was doing before. I can see Triple H turning a lot of people off, easily, but he does have some tremendous work. Loved his match with Daniel Bryan - it was the most he's ever looked like an actual "cerebral assassin" in probably ever. He also has the best Great Khali match ever. For me his career has been pretty uneven, especially if you factor in his character stuff, and some of those big time main events being fucking lame. I'd say Triple H is a better example of X-Pac Heat than X-Pac was.
  11. I didn't vote for him but Dolph Ziggler has had some flashes of brilliance. His run several years ago when there was still had brand split had some fantastic weekly matches. Not as good as Matt Hardy's run on Smackdown or Christian's but it was in the ball park. He's had some good main events since then, but he's never really grown the way I'd hoped he would to round it all out. So despite loving him I didn't vote for him, but I guess I can see how people who look back at those peaks can use that to justify a slot in their 100.
  12. Pretty sure if I hadn't done my list so quickly and had time to sit down and pour over more stuff Kengo Kimura would have probably made my ballot. Really I could say that about a lot of people. It's been only a week and I think the majority of my ballot has already changed in my head.
  13. Us making fun of it is having fun. At least it's fun for me.
  14. YAY MY FIRST HIGH VOTE! When I first watched him he was like all the good shit Kurt Angle did, without much of the bad- so basically the best version of Kurt ever. Eventually he became one of the last great manly men of modern wrestling, and feels less like the best version of Angle and more like his own person. I'd probably rank him higher if I had a chance to watch more of his recent stuff.
  15. I didn't think Honk Tonk getting a 49th place vote could be topped. I love it.
  16. I really like Roman Reigns, and I'd maybe put him in a Top 100 Wrestlers wrestling today. But ever? I'd probably rank Nash before him.
  17. What was Ryder supposed to say "Man it's so great they booked me to go over, but in the end belts and wins don't matter it's about who draws money! Buy my merch! Woo Woo Woo You know it!"
  18. I feel like PG-13 as a team was so good that it almost makes up for their lackluster singles outings. It's hard to penalize them for that because they clearly got a facet of wrestling the others struggle with. That being said I'd maybe include Brian Christopher ahead of both and he wasn't even nominated.
  19. Booo. I like the weirdos. Makes everything way more interesting.
  20. I just want to know who are the 48 other people that this person thinks are the ONLY people better than The Honky Tonk Man.
  21. I really don't like watching James storm wrestle so I'm a little bummed people ranked him BUT it might be worth it for that picture. I know some ladies back in Kentucky that would have that framed on the wall.
  22. I watched him wrestle live a few years ago I think for Dragon Gate USA and he's still a lot of fun. He was chubby and worked the match super smart. Definitely knows how to work a crowd by doing less without ever acting like he's taking it easy or mailing it in. I wonder if part of me didn't vote for him because I have some weird allegiance to Tajiri. That totally doesn't make sense but that feud was like Nintendo vs. Sega and when I was a kid you were either Sega or you were Nintendo only assholes had both.
  23. The Men's Club stuff in BJW can sometimes be really good. Granted, some of the best matches were multi-man tags and the work load got divided up among guys like Makoto Oishi and Shinobu - both of whom I really enjoy.
  24. The fact that this version has 3 times as many voters makes Saito gaining one vote less impressive, but Super Crazy's slip even more dramatic.
  25. I'm glad someone voted for Akitoshi Saito, I'm a huge fan of his and his team with Bison Smith is one of my favorites(I probably would have voted for them in the best tags). Kind of sad that he's the guy ranked behind Bob Sapp.
