  1. Like a lot of the WWC footage that we have this is joined in progress. Pitbulls 2000 are, I think, Gary Wolfe and John Kronus, although I can find nothing online to support that Kronus was ever in a team called that. A super basic 80s style tag match with distraction spots so the ref misses seeing the face tag, the illegal man for the heels interfering and providing assistance from the apron and long rear chinlocks. An accidental clash of heads sees both Kronus and Invader I go down and the latter is then finally able to make the tag to his partner. Three takes it to the Pitbulls before the action quickly spills to the floor where both teams are counted out. Nothing worth seeing here.
  2. It sounds like Palmer has something against fat people and he doesn’t want them cheering for him, while this is the IWA-MS debut for Hero. The wrestling in the opening moments is fundamentally sound but looks pretty loose. The referee’s outfit is really bothering me with the oversized, untucked shirt, shorts and trainers. I can’t remember if it is the same guy who officiated Kickboxer/X or not, but he just looks completely out of place here. A cool little Irish whip from the apron and into the ring post by Hero as Palmer is jawing with the fans. He lays in a couple of snug looking European uppercuts on the floor before throwing Palmer back inside. ‘The Babe Magnet’ manages to get the jump on him though and starts working Hero over. The crowd try to rally the debutant with a “kick his ass” chant, although Palmer has some choice words for them on hearing that. The backdrop is telegraphed and Hero with a neckbreaker. Elbow smash in the corner. He signals for it again in the opposite one, however Palmer reverses the Irish whip and Hero goes flying over the top rope and to the outside. Palmer goes to whip him into a couple of chairs that he’d set up, but Hero leaps over them and nails Palmer with a clothesline as he takes a flat back bump on the concrete. Powerbomb onto the chairs from Hero draws a “holy shit” chant and they, clearly like me, weren’t expecting that. Frog splash elbow drop off the top for a two as Palmer unexpectedly kicks out. He avoids the moonsault and then heads upstairs himself. ‘Blockbuster’ looks to have won it for him but he’d rather dish out some more punishment instead. Hero with Reno’s ‘Roll the Dice’ for a near fall, but when he goes for it a second time, Palmer counters with an inverted suplex. The ref botches the finish; clearly counting three on the cover only to then gesture to everyone that it was just a two (this after initially getting in the wrong position to count!). Palmer just walks out and after some uncertainty Jim Fannin announces that he’s gotten word from the official that the winner is the ‘Babe Magnet’ Harry Palmer. I suppose its par for the course to see where I would put Hero amongst the other Indy workers of the era, and on first looking below all of them bar Punk, although he is some way ahead of him. Sound fundamentals, some cool offense, but there’s nothing really there to give you any indication that he would end up how he did (unlike Dragon, Styles, Ki, Spanky and Cabana) and his ring wear does him no favours. Palmer looks to be a solid hand, but someone who relies more on his mouth and fan interactions than his actual work. The finish was a mess and obligatory “it’ll be interesting to chart Hero’s progress over the course of the project” line.
  3. Match review courtesy of Jetlag (had to repost due to some board glitch that wouldn't take you to the actual review after approving the post)
  4. No Jim Neidhart busting a move to K-Krush’s rapping this month sadly! ‘The Anvil’ tells his partners to get out of there as he wants a piece of Bitty Little. He doesn’t want him for long mind, quickly tagging out to Curtis Hughes after a drop toe hold sends him crashing to the mat. Spinning wheel kick by Reckless and now Hughes wants out. Krush backs Lawler into the corner and hammers away. After running into a big boot though ‘the King’ comes off the middle turnbuckle with a fist drop. Krush reverses the Little Irish whip and drops him with a lariat. Seeing him in trouble, Neidhart’s back wanting a piece. Powerbomb followed by big slam. Powerslam by Hughes for a two count. Bitty counters the rear chinlock with a jawbreaker and makes the hot tag to Reckless. That also brings Lawler in as the match breaks down with everyone, including Hollywood Little, getting involved. With the official distracted by everything that is going on, Krush grabs the Southern Heavyweight title and KO’s ‘the King’ leading to the fall. Bitty tries to explain what went down but to no avail as the heels take the win.
  5. That blonde woman giving Hy-Zaya grief looks like the same one who was on their case at the ‘Heroes, Hurt & Hot Wax’ show. Another outdoor IWA-MS card and the same match stipulations as Kickboxer/Richard X from eleven days prior. A stiff kick to the knee causes Zaya to crumple and he at least looks more competent in this environment than X did. Kickboxer is not giving him a moment’s rest bite though, dropping him with a knee to the head. Zaya manages to catch a kick, exploder suplex and he takes Kickboxer’s back looking for a choke. Boxer fights his way out and applies a cross armbar telling Zaya to “give it up” before he breaks it. He doesn’t break it and he doesn’t get the submission, Zaya grabbing the ropes. Kickboxer with a leg lock, but he leaves his own leg too close to his opponent who slaps on a heel hook. That forces Boxer to release his own grip as he then repeatedly open hand slaps Zaya across the head to get him his. A pair of kicks double Zaya over and Kickboxer follows that with one to the back of head. Richard X runs out but Kickboxer sees him coming and decks him the moment he puts his head through the ropes. Someone who I don’t recognise jumps X and the referee heads outside to try and restore some order. With the official’s back turned, Honky enters the ring and chokes out Kickboxer. Zaya then applies a rear naked choked to the unconscious Boxer for the win. A better match than Kickboxer/X and Boxer again looks good working this style. The interference laden finish meant this ended on a downer for me, although Kickboxer proceeded to milk the applause from the fans for all he was worth before he finally left.

  8. I think it’s a mixture of wrestlers and fans who’re the lumberjacks here with Ian also down at ringside, presumably to make sure things don’t get too out of control. The fans are like some baying mob though with the ferocity that they’re whipping Hy-Zaya and every time he darts back into the ring to get away, Kickboxer tosses him right back out to them. Zaya counters a huracanrana with a powerbomb and the ref stops counting at one, realising that this is ‘first blood’ and he shouldn’t be doing any such thing. Kickboxer fires back and grabs a strap from one of the lumberjacks to do some whipping of his own before hanging Zaya over the top rope. In a funny moment Zaya manages to get Kickboxer to the floor but Ian runs the heels off before they can get many licks in; he doesn’t bargain for one over enthusiastic fan though who isn’t following the script and whips an unexpected Kickboxer on the behind! As a big old melee breaks out with everyone fighting each other, Kickboxer cuts Zaya across the forehead with a shard of broken light tube. The official is otherwise engaged with the brawl though so doesn’t see what’s happened. Honky covers the cut up and blasts Kickboxer between the eyes with a right hand busting him open (you can clearly see Kickboxer blade himself). The referee then sees him bleeding and awards the match to Zaya. That finish doesn't sit well with the fans who chant "bullshit" as Honky puts his charge over his shoulder and carries him to the back. Not particularly good and I felt for Zaya having to take those shots from the excitable fans. Camera work wasn’t the best either, particularly towards the finish.
  9. It looks like Ian has found some abandoned waste land and just set up a ring there. Jeez, Richard X (a black fella) is managed by some obese white chap in dungarees called ‘his’ Uncle Honky! A no holds barred grudge match where the only way to win is by submission or knock out. Kickboxer comes out kicking and swinging as X takes an early powder to the outside. It does look like he’s laying his shots in, unlike his opponent whom, when he tries to fight back, is clearly pulling his stuff as there is nothing behind them. Kickboxer open hands X across the face and drags him to the mat before throwing knees to the head while in side control. In case anyone was wondering whether this was a shoot or not, Kickboxer grabs the mic and tells X “this is a fucking shoot, I ain’t working with you, I’m here to beat your fucking ass!” So they’re working then! X has offered absolutely nothing here. Double leg take down by Kickboxer and he gets the submission with a leg lock. Hy-Zaya jumps Kickboxer after the match as the dressing room empties to separate the pair of them. Ian then announces that Kickboxer will face Hy-Zaya in a first blood lumberjack match later in the show, and if anyone in the audience is over 18 and wants to be a lumberjack to go and buy a raffle ticket! A carny to the end is old Ian! Essentially a squash to set up the angle and match later in the show. I thought X was really bad here and bought nothing to the table, his kicks being especially woeful. Kickboxer worked the style well and his punches and open hand shots looked good (a couple of kicks were dodgy, but nothing like X’s). I liked the knees from side control too although the mid-match mic work was unnecessary. Whenever anyone tells you they’re “shooting”, you know that’s the last thing they’re doing! I’m guessing the fans had to pay to get a raffle ticket by the way and I wonder if Ian worked the draw as well.

  20. There has been a strong build in the Lazz/Onyx feud, leading up to this ‘Ménage a Trois’ handicap match for the latter’s Junior Heavyweight title. Check out the stone faced security guard completely no selling Lazz as he dances in front of him! Lazz rushes Onyx the moment he walks through the curtain and the two have a heated brawl on the floor to get us started. Bailey, despite looking like he is about to pick his shots, is content to leave them to it. Onyx lands on a couple of fans after being backdropped into the front row and Lazz then levels him with a crossbody off the barricade. Back on the other side of the guard rail, Onyx reverses the Irish whip and dumps Lazz face first onto the apron. They finally make it into the ring and the bell rings as it turns out the match wasn’t officially underway yet. The NWA Elite really need to get their act together as on separate occasions both Onyx and Bailey accidentally hit the other with Steve Martin going crazy as he watches on. Onyx misses a standing moonsault, but lands a huge press slam into a stomachbreaker as it finally looks like the Elite are on the same page. Twisting belly to back suplex and Bailey drops a knee from the middle rope before getting a bit of payback for earlier, pummelling away with punches from the mount. The commentators mention that it looks like he’s blown himself up in the process though! Lazz ducks the clothesline, ‘Britney Spear’, but Bailey breaks up the cover. That shows that Lazz is going to have his work cut out to win this as unless he incapacitates both men, the other will always be there to save their partner. The Elite call Steve Martin in and he and Bailey team up for a ‘Poetry in Motion’! Martin struts around like he’s Ric Flair although doesn’t realise Bailey crashed and burned as Lazz avoided a flying Jeff G., turning around and straight into a Lazz kiss. After Onyx kicks out of a schoolboy, Al Getz says “Lazz has done more schoolboys than Bert Prentice!” Ow! Kick to the chest by Onyx followed by a neckbreaker. Martin passes a chair to Bailey which he clocks Lazz over the back with. Jumping DDT and Bailey refuses to allow the pin, wanting to dish out more punishment. Onyx holds him for a Bailey superkick, however Lazz moves out the way and he takes out Onyx instead. ‘Britney Spear’ to Bailey and Lazz is the new NWA Wildside Junior Heavyweight champions. A fuming Onyx holds Bailey responsible and, after Eddie Golden lost the TV title earlier in the night, the Elite are now title less. While the finish with Bailey doing the job was predictable, it’s the ultimate payback for the NWA Elite after how the feud has gone and how they’ve constantly interfered in matches. On the back of Styles/Bliss from the other week does this mean things are starting to unravel for the group? Of the three matches from Fright Night that we’ve watched this is the final one and the fans have definitely been entertained this evening.
  21. It looks like Romeo has left his lovely ring robe at home which is a shame. He’s got some choice words for Jeff G. Bailey but says the difference between them is that when he runs his mouth he’s got the balls to get in the ring and back it up, when he (Bailey) talks trash, he sends someone else to take the ass whipping that he deserves. Steve Martin is accompanying Styles and Bailey to ringside and has an offer for Romeo. He tells him that he can forget this match tonight, join the NWA Elite and they will make him the superstar that he’s always dreamed of. Bliss acts as if he is going to accept but turns them down, saying how they couldn’t hang with Romeo Bliss! A.J. takes a cracking bump off a knife edge chop in what it is the first offensive move of the match. Bliss reverses the go behind into a hammerlock and transitions that into a pin attempt. The quality of wrestling on show is a real surprise here, Romeo getting a second two count after a half nelson into a cradle. Styles ducks to the outside as Steve Martin has words with the official. Romeo follows A.J. out and slams his head into the apron, however he’s then grabbed from behind by Bailey who rams him into the ring post. We return from a commercial break and see that Bliss is now busted open. High frog splash for a near fall. As Styles complains to Jimmy Rivers about the count, Romeo nails him with a clothesline sending him over the top rope to the outside (they had to do the spot twice because they botched it first time). The action continues at ringside, Styles taking three separate spills over the barricade and into the front row after Bliss chops. When he goes to get back in the ring, Bailey grabs him by the ankle, giving the advantage back to his man. Romeo moves out the way of the ‘Swanton bomb’, rolls on top, hooks the leg and a suspiciously fast count from Rivers sees Bliss pick up the win. Post-match Steve Martin kicks the turnbuckle in frustration and then starts hopping around, selling that foot. I liked that! Steve Prazak and Al Getz mention that it looks like Styles is blaming Bailey and Martin for not coming to his aid and being in the wrong place at the wrong time, maybe hinting at a face turn in the not too distant future. A.J. does bump his ass off for these guys. It’s one things do it for the likes of the Boogaloo Crew and their high impact offense, but he does it for everyone. I’m more with Astro Boy on this, as between the chain wrestling, the blood, Bliss’ comebacks and the eventual upset win, this worked for me.
