I know a thread with a title like that could spark quite a psychological debate, but I know we have some folks here who have some Lucha insight, and I've always wanted to ask a few questions knowing full well there may be no answers so some of these.

 

Why did they spend all last year building to Atlantis/UG for the 80th Anniversary show only to bait and switch at the last possible minute? Dicking over the highest paying crowd in company history doesn't make any business sense. Did someone have cold feet about jobbing? Payoff wasn't high enough? Now that the match is happening (probably....maybe) this year, they wouldn't dare pull it again, would they?

I think last year was just a case of being too greedy and it bit them in the butt. They lost televisa, live shows have been hurt a lot since then unless it's a big time match with stips. I don't think they are stupid enough to do it again but you never know? It reminds me of the Fuerza Guerrera/Octagon and Park/Wagner mask match teases. They tease it long enough that when it might happen, no one will care.

They aren't pulling it again this year...although I would not be shocked if Dragon Rojo & Rey Escorpion aren't thrown in somehow like Sombra & Volador were last year but this time it will be Atlantis & UG having the final match.

That would be some head-scratching promoting. I know if I was one of the fans who was at Arena Mexico last year and felt screwed by the entire La Sombra & Volador/Atlantis & UG deal, I wouldn't be all that anxious to pay high ticket prices this year if they even tease the possibility of an Atlantis/UG mask match not happening. Seems like if they re going to run that match, they should just announce it and run it. Doing the same deal as last year might add some intrigue but might also do so at the expense of ticket sales.
