TannerT
Hey guys, I've been reading here for a while and try to participate where I can, but I had a cool idea. I floated the idea somewhere else but it just got buried, and then I realized it would be smarter to do it here instead. Essentially I want to see who watches the most wrestling, most diverse viewing, what decades are viewed the most, etc. So here are a couple of guidelines. - Matches can only count once, no duplicates allowed (Same match up but different date is of course acceptable) - Doesn't have to be just 2015 Wrestling. - Challenge goes from 12:01 AM EST on 01/01/15 to 11:59 PM EST 12/31/15. - Please don't lie, no prizes are involved so what is the point of lying about what you watch? Also, I figured we could also do reviews and such on some stuff we find review worthy, to make it more interesting during some of the downtime. That just about covers it, and with the Top 100 going on I figured a ton of people were already making some lists, so why not make it a friendly competition? I hope you guys decide to join, as I think it could be a ton of fun.
anarchistxx
The only competition where the winner is also a massive loser. There are no props for spending our lives watching wrestling, even though we sometimes enjoy it. Plus this is the sort of thing that can turn watching into a massive chore - I started to tune out when I had piles and piles of unwatched discs and started working through them just because I felt I had to since they had been bought. A month or so later and I stopped watching altogether. It is like drinking freshly squeezed orange juice - really enjoyable until you start forcing glass after glass down because you feel obligated to drink as much of it as humanely possible, and then you begun to hate it. Zenjo
Wrestling viewing is absolutely not a competition. I'm someone who does like to plan out and structure my viewing, but it's entirely based around maximising my enjoyment from wrestling. If it ever starts to feel like a chore or I'm zoning out during matches then I'll take a break. It may be a day, a week or several weeks. However long it takes before I can't wait to watch wrestling again. Feeling obligated to watch X amount of wrestling every week is the thing that burns out fans. By all means have viewing objectives for yourself, but any approach based solely on maximising volume is the wrong way to go.

If I chose to watch wrestling instead of seeking out other hobbies, why does that make me a loser? I think it is fair to say that most of us here have some sort of down time at some point during the day. If not, you are busier than me but here is my point of comparison. I am working right now between 45-60 hours a week, add a two hour commute each day and that is my time devoted to work. I also am married and have a newborn. Between all of that I feel I have a decent social life where I can get together with my friends if I so desire. I also am able to watch tv shows and board games with my wife. My wrestling watching breaks down into watching before 6:00 AM (when my wife leaves for work) and 6:30 AM (when I leave). In addition if she really wants to watch a tv show and I don't care and the baby is asleep, I will watch then. Have things been given up? Sure, I havent watched any NBA this year so far, but if I enjoy watching wrestling more than any other hobby, why does that automatically make me a loser? In regards to this idea, I will be tracking the stuff I watch mainly through the match discussions already created but plan on having a master file of everything watched in 2015. bradhindsight
I'll echo soup's last sentence. Track your stuff by contributing to the match discussion forums here. They are a fantastic resource.

That's a weird ass analogy.
TannerT
I'm sorry I've been late on the reply, a competition was the wrong word to use. I simply meant it as a way for all of us to keep up with everything, not just stuff from 2015. Also I disagree with the "winner being a loser" sentiment, if you enjoy doing it why does it matter? If you enjoy video games, does it make you a loser if you complete 40 in a year? As long as you enjoy doing something it doesn't matter. Plus, this is a wrestling forum, so who would care if someone watched 2000 matches in a year?
iamthedoctor
The thing is for me I spent the last 4 years aquiring as much wrestling footage as I could and if I didnt watch any of it then it would be a waste of money from my part. On the same token as a kid I remember playing Final Fantasy 7 and played it for 72 hours non stop before I finished it. These days id never attempt something like that as id probably spread the game out over a number of weeks. As far as what wrestling Ive viewed well last year I started a trek of watching Attitude Era stuff so I started with Raw from jan 1995 and worked my way week after week up to the PPVs till Nitro came and watched that along with the WCW PPVs. Over time I racked up to mid 99 with having to watch on top of that Thunders, Heats, Smackdowns and I felt that nearing the end of 99 I wanted to do a change and rewatch some of the Golden era. If you can spare 3 or 4 hours maybe 3 nights out of a week you can get through quite alot. Was a really enjoyable time and it got the little un into the attitude era product so get them familiar with the characters from the WWE 13 game. Now ive started with the 1984 era so they can relive the Hulkamania era which is something I never got to see as apart from the odd WWF show didnt see it properly till 1989 so I missed alot of that era. Well UK TV had their own wrestling show so I guess they didnt need a american show to entertain people even though it was massivly popular than what the UK scene was airing. This will be what I end up doing, I just wanted some participants just so I could see who was watched the most, decade viewed the most, pretty much do a project of sorts.
