KrisZ
Kris & David are joined by Beau James (King of Kingsport) to discuss the week that was March 1-7, 1986. We talk about WWF talent uneasiness, Ted DiBiase coming a year early, the first Slammys, WWF vs. JCP, Mid-South, etc, the epic March 1st episode of Memphis TV, and lots more. This is a really great show with Beau bringing the great stories as usual!!! 0:00:00 WWF 1:12:49 International: AJPW, NJPW, Montreal, Stampede, & WWC 1:49:27 Western USA: AWA, Portland, Mid-South, & Texas All-Star Wrestling 2:28:38 Eastern USA: Continental, Memphis, Florida, & Potpourri 3:39:51 Jim Crockett Promotions http://placetobenation.com/between-the-sheets-33-march-1-7-1986-featuring-beau-james/
BigBadMick
Listened to the first 15 minutes or so and I've got to admit to be fascinated by the incredible travel schedule maintained in the mid-80s in WWF. When did it really ramp up and when did it settle into a more regular touring circuit?
KrisZ
It started ramping up hard in 1985....it didn't really settle down until late 1987 or so
Hegs
Terry Funk did bale out after WM2- Was he one of the wrestlers who was complaining about the travel?
Hegs
I did have the original slammy's on tape but unfortunately I taped over it around 1989 when I started consolidating my collection. Piper's slammy broke and he got really pissed off and Vicki Sue Robinson from the original turn the beat around performed Grab them Cakes with JYD. I did save the entire War to Settle the Score. KrisZ
I think Terry had acting work
Cobra Commander
I think a "Four flat tires" angle is one obvious angles that couldn't be pulled off today due to the existence of cell phones.
KrisZ
Definitely old school
Cobra Commander
these days, the heels would just steal the identities of the faces to make them seem like bad people or to jack up their credit ratings. Then the faces would just face them in the ring instead of taking them to court for fraud. But i'm sure there's some other legendary storylines that'd get messed up by the existence of cellphones. The Man in Blak
these days, the heels would just steal the identities of the faces to make them seem like bad people or to jack up their credit ratings. Then the faces would just face them in the ring instead of taking them to court for fraud. There are a number of things that WWE/NXT whiffed on with Sami Callihan as Solomon Crowe, but failing to capitalize on the storyline possibilities of having a wrestling hacker pull off something like this has got to be near the top of the list. hammerva
I have never seen a Beau James non tag team match that I could spend more than 5 minutes with but damn I can listen to him talk about wrestling for days on days.
drew wardlaw
Is that Bobby Eaton match where he gets kicked in the bathing suit area available anywhere? I'd like to see him rage on some jobber.
overbooked
The section on Memphis gave me goosebumps, then I went away and watched the TV and got goosebumps again. Just perfect television, perfect wrestling, perfect storytelling. And the three of you did a wonderful job of conveying all that. I'd happily listen to the three of you discussing Memphis TV week on week, let alone discussing anything else. Thank you!
KrisZ
Thanks for all of the love for this show guys
JerryvonKramer
This is probably my favourite ep of BTS yet, and also one of my favourite single wrestling pod episodes ever. I saw some people on FB giving Beau stick for being "too southern", but honestly, the dude is just absolutely awesome and the real deal. The Memphis portion of this show was brilliant. I mean the stuff on its own speaks for itself, that entire feud is some all-time promo work and storytelling. But I loved how you guys guided us through it. I also wanted to put over just how awesome this episode is from start to finish. You should have Beau back like every 4-5 eps I reckon. With everything we've put out in the past couple of weeks, even if I say so myself, March 2016 so far has got to be one of the better months that any wrestling feed has put out. Lust Hogan
I finally listened to this episode and it was great. I would LOVE to hear more Memphis stuff as well. Wasn't there a guy not too long ago who was new, wanted to do a Memphis-centric podcast, and needed someone to help out? I think Beau would be great in that role if he had the time. Great job all the way around!!
