soup23
The crowd for ECW is looking rough as when York and Matthews comes out, empty seats are all over the place. Doring/Roadkill continue to be helluva over compared to their push which is essentially crowd warmer. Nice sequence where York/Matthews have to hit combo moves on Doring and Roadkill individually to gain the advantage. They follow up on that quickly with topes to the outside. While they tend to Doring on the inside, they forget about Roadkill who hits his double clothesline from the top rope. Doring gets crotched quickly afterwards and Y&M are able to regain the advantage. They do a good job of adding some cocky mannerisms to the flashy offense they are performing. Doring’s FIP is only around 2 minutes before here comes in Roadkill. He flies around on his hot tag with the sidewalk slam and Hard Times Bossman slam. Doring is back in now and Roadkill and him hit the flying legdrop with the Roadkill assist for the win. Nothing groundbreaking but again a great way to get the crowd going and the team of Roadkill/Doring give respect to York and Matthews afterwards help putting them over. FBI attacks including Big Sal hitting a huge splash as the segment ends. **1/
AstroBoy
York and Matthews did a good job taking it in stride as the crowd seems to be pretty firmly all for Doring and Roadkill. Roadkill was really over and has fun big guy offense that the other guys take well. This was pretty much your basic face versus face match with a standoff in the beginning and York and Matthews getting their own moments to bust out fun double teams and get a few cheers. All four raise hands after the match and the FBI runs in to cheap shot them. **1/
Migs
Interesting to watch this compared to the WWF TV tags I've been watching the past few days, as even as 8 minutes or so this felt a lot more fully realized than almost all the TV tag matches. Matthews and York do a nice job of providing some structure here, as Doring and Roadkill are super over but are basically just a series of big moves. During and Roadkill are two of the guys that maybe got the most hurt by the end of ECW, as they were so over with that crowd but never really found the right venue for themselves afterwards to really develop their work further. GSR
Roadkill continues to remain over way more than you would expect given he and Doring’s position on the card. You can sense the ‘stand off’ coming and they don’t disappoint. Talking about not disappointing, after Matthews tags in and the crowd start chanting for Roadkill, Doring is happy to oblige and give them what they want. ‘Lancaster Lariat of Lust’ for a two. York and Matthews make a blind tag and hit the ‘Future Shock’ on Doring. The double clothesline has no effect on Roadkill as he just walks through it, but a double dropkick takes him off his feet and he joins his partner on the outside. Great stereo suicide dives. Back in the ring Doring ducks the double clothesline and slides to the floor, under Roadkill, who comes off the top rope with a double clothesline off his own. He’s more and more playing to the crowd after a hot move, a la Rob Van Dam, which is not a good sign. Doring gets crotched upstairs and Matthews with a top rope huracanrana for a near fall. He counters an Irish whip with the ‘G-Spot Sweep’ (I’m getting good at these now) and makes the hot tag. Roadkill runs through York and Matthews finishing up with a big ‘Stinger splash’ in the corner onto both. ‘Bareback’ on Matthews and as a groggy Christian York staggers around, he’s easy pickings for the ‘Buggy Back’. There’s a rather patronising round of applause from Doring and Roadkill for the opposition, before all four raise each other’s arms. York and Matthews leave the winners to it, but they’re then jumped by the FBI and left lying courtesy of a couple of Big Sal ‘Bonzai splashes’ as it looks like Doring and Roadkill are the next challengers for the tag team champions.
