Sean Liska
Wagner comes out as a very aggressive rudo and takes the first fall. Atlantis with a good hope spot in the second fall before Wagner takes back over, I feel like you rarely see proper hope spots in modern CMLL.Atlantis with a spirited second fall comeback. Good sense of intensity all the way through so far. Third fall has some submission exchanges before going to highspots. Very good match, I think this would be viewed as a positive to both guys' reps. ohtani's jacket
CMLL continues to move in mysterious ways. They drew out the Satanico/Tarzan Boy shit for months but they threw Wagner and Atlantis into a mano a mano bout after a week. Not that I'm complaining since this was the best mano a mano bout I've ever seen. To be honest, it was a better match-up than Villano vs. Atlantis for the simple reason that Villano was a decade or more removed from his prime whereas Wagner was bang smack in the middle of his. Of course, Villano vs. Atlantis culminated in one of the greatest apuesta matches of all time and we already know that Wagner and Atlantis aren't going to have a mask match, but I dare say that Wagner and Atlantis were aware of that too because instead of holding something back for a potential payday down the line, they delivered the greatest cock tease that you could possibly imagine. Honestly speaking, the action was just as good as an apuesta match. The hairs on the back of your neck were tingling just like they would be in an apuesta bout. The crowd was electric and super hot. Just an incredible match. And the vignette of Wagner as an actual doctor to start the match was priceless.
soup23
Another beautiful lucha match coming off the heels of Cerebro vs Felino. With a better finish, this is probably a low end MOTYC for me. We got the gambit of everything that I love in lucha. Dives, aggressive work, and really tense filled near falls. Wagner gets his masked ripped but it feels like an appropriate response from Atlantis given the onslaught he endures before that point. As mentioned up above, the finish drags this down ever so slightly as Wagner hits a brutal tombstone variation and then Atlantis is able to recover and roll him up when Wagner is gloating about it. You could chalk it up to Atlantis being concussed and running on fumes and he plays this off staggering after the match but it still didn’t feel as earned as the rest of the match. Still what preceded it was amazing. ****1/4 (8.6)
