peachchaos
There are few guys I'd rather watch than Rey Mysterio in 1996. Starts the year out having bangers with Juvi in ECW and AAA, then has another banger with Psicosis in WCW, the feud with Dean evolves his style with matwork and next level selling, and he wraps the year up with a pair of dream matches against Dragon and Liger. Most of those matches hit 4 stars for me, and there are a billion TV matches out there and they all hit. 1997 is nearly as good with a higher water mark but he's out for a few months. leo
My personal favourite year for any given wrestler is probably Atsushi Onita in 1990 as he skyrockets into nationwide cult superstar status. He introduces all sorts of new ideas throughout the year while also putting on some excellent matches (with Goto vs Dragon Master & Kurisu, vs Goto) Other picks would be Kaoru Ito in 2001, Rusher Kimura in 1979. Both were consistently having some of the best matches of their career in those years.
Memphis Mark
Jerry Lawler in 1974. Lawler had been a tag team guy until 74. Lawler won the Southern title and began chasing NWA Champion Jack Brisco . Lawler went thur the likes of The Sheik , Dick the Bruiser , Bobo Brazil , Mr.Wrestling II and Jerry Brisco in his quest to dethrone big Jack. Lawler also turn on Jackie Fargo and had a series of classic brawls. The bottom line is there was 11, 200 at the MSC every week. Great year for the King.
