Loss
History of Pro Wrestling #44 (04:00:31) Matches from October 1962-January 1963 INCA PERUANO vs GUY MERCIER (10/19/1962; French Catch; 00:09:12) LARRY CHENE vs RED KELLY (11/09/1962; NWA Chicago; 00:08:06) DAN AUBRIOT vs PIERRE BERNAERT (11/09/1962; French Catch; 00:29:13) GUY TALLIEU vs CESAR FRANCK (11/09/1962; French Catch; 00:04:36) Segunda Caida reviews of the above four matches. JIMMY DULA & JEAN MARTIN vs MARCEL MONTREAL & LEON MINISSINI (11/16/1962; French Catch; 00:47:19) User ohtani’s jacket at Pro Wrestling Only: “I was kind of dreading this when I saw it was 46 minutes long, but it ended up being one of the better tags in the Archive. Jean Martin was a revelation. He was fun in that Bernieres match we caught the end of, but he looked like a Wrestling God here. Look at what he had to work with here -- Jimmy Dula being goofy and weird and a couple of wise guy babyfaces. Martin was brilliant and carried the match with his unparalleled showmanship and phenomenal brawling. Martin and Montreal had one of the all-time great brawl exchanges in this match. Probably the best manchette contest we've seen so far. Sleeper match this. I can't think of a tag I liked better than this.” Segunda Caida review of the match. RON WRIGHT vs WHITEY CALDWELL (11/21/1962; NWA Mid-America; Knoxville, TN; 00:03:37) Easily the biggest rivalry in the history of the city, all in all an 11-year feud that continued until Caldwell died in a car accident in the early 70s. One of the first big feuds with numerous gimmick matches, including multiple head shavings and chain matches, and a notable match where as the result of a pre-match stipulation, Caldwell won Ron Wright’s horse and sold him at an auction! We don’t have any of that on video, sadly, but it’s cool that we have at least a small clip that serves as a historical reference for the feud. CHERI BIBI vs JACKY CORN (12/14/1962; French Catch; 00:25:25) MODESTO ALEDO vs JEAN RABUT (12/14/1962; French Catch; 00:03:45) Segunda Caida reviews of the above two matches. EL SANTO vs LAS MUJERES VAMPIRO (1962; 00:03:23) BRUNO SAMMARTINO vs SWEET DADDY SIKI (1962; Maple Leaf Gardens; 00:00:55) BULLDOG BROWER & SWEET DADDY SIKI vs YUKON ERIC & WHIPPER WATSON (1962; Maple Leaf Gardens; 00:02:23) WHIPPER WATSON & BILLY RED LYONS vs BULLDOG BROWER & SWEET DADDY SIKI (1962; Maple Leaf Gardens; 00:01:30) JOHNNY GILBERT & BILLY GOELZ vs BLACK BART & BOB KUDELSKI (1962; NWA Chicago; 00:22:09) This is the original Black Bart, not the tall-tale loving Rick Harris who was around in the 1980s. Ralph Bartleman, this Black Bart, was a Gold medalist in the heavyweight Greco-Roman US Olympic Trials and was eligible for the Olympics. SAILOR ART THOMAS vs MIGHTY ATLAS (1962; NWA Chicago; 00:07:18) Thomas was one of the first wrestlers with a spectacular physique and was a big star at times, particularly in the Midwest. GENE KINISKI vs JOE BLANCHARD (1962; Southwest Sports; Dallas Sportatorium; 00:05:01) PAT O’CONNOR vs LORENZO PARENTE (1962; St. Louis; 00:17:16) Parente was a talented junior heavyweight who had a long feud with Danny Hodge. Dave Meltzer said in his biography that this match was good enough watching even in 2014 that if it happened then in Mexico, fans would throw money at the ring. I don’t know if I’d go that far, but this was an excellent technical babyface match! Both do an interview with some awesome hold demonstrations after the match. 4*** KILLER KOWALSKI vs YUKON ERIC (1962; NWA Upstate; Buffalo Memorial Auditorium; 00:04:31) BRUNO SAMMARTINO vs HANS SCHMIDT (01/11/1963; NWA Upstate; Buffalo Memorial Auditorium; 00:05:55) RUDI JACOBS & HARRY WENZEL vs GARY HART & COUNT WALENSKI (01/18/1963; IWA Chicago; 00:16:20) Yes, manager Gary Hart steps into the ring here. KILLER KOWALSKI vs EDOUARD CARPENTIER (01/25/1963; IWA Chicago; 00:16:22) BUDDY ROGERS vs BOBO BRAZIL (01/31/1963; WWWA Cleveland, OH; 00:03:32)
