Segunda Caida reviews of the above two matches.

  • GENE KINISKI vs DORY FUNK JR. (02/11/1969; CWF Gasparilla Spectacular; 00:08:25)
Dory wins the NWA World Title, kicking off a legendary run that would last more than four years.

  • ANTONIO INOKI & SHOHEI BABA vs DANNY HODGE & WILBUR SNYDER (02/11/1969; JWA; 00:05:21)
Danny Hodge on film! An extremely rare thing, unfortunate for a wrestler generally regarded as an all-time great.

  • ANTONIO INOKI & SHOHEI BABA vs THE DESTROYER & BULL RAMOS (02/26/1969; JWA Dynamic Series; 00:06:19)
I love the surreal viewing experience of seeing Inoki and Baba team!

  • HARLEY RACE vs TOMMY MARTIN (03/01/1969; St. Louis Wrestling at the Chase; 00:04:49)

  • ANTONIO INOKI & KINTARO OKI vs NELSON ROYAL & PAUL JONES (03/05/1969; JWA Dynamic Series; 00:25:21)
This match only surfaced on the most recent G+ run of Classics in the last few years. Cool to see Nelson Royal in his heyday since most footage we have of him is many years after his prime, but this match was a bit all over the place.

  • SHOHEI BABA vs THE DESTROYER (03/05/1969; JWA Dynamic Series; 01:03:56)
We’ve uncovered a lot of French Catch in recent years that I still haven’t watched, but prior to that, I was confident that this was the best match of the 1960s, and it still might be. Baba is capable and holds up his end, but this is a masterful performance from the Sensational, Intelligent Destroyer, mixing comedy, brawling, and great wrestling in one nearly one-hour masterpiece. 5*
